I think it’s time for Arena Net to remove the frequent loading screens. It should at least show once, only when our character phased into another map and not every time we use a distant Asuran Waypoint within an area.

Doing so would cause your screen to freeze as is for a few seconds while the game loads all the necessary data when you instant travel to different areas. The load screen is just something to look at while the game loads, unless you’d rather have your screen freeze for a few seconds each time you would normally see a load screen.

There is too much going on at one time in an MMO such as this for instant loading to be possible with current infrastructure. You, ArenaNet, your internet service provider, and all the data hubs between you and the game’s central data point would all have to have super computers that are the size of a house, and you’d have to be the only person connected to the game client.

All that just so instant travel would really be instant travel. Maybe the computers don’t have to be the size of a house, but you would need so massive processing power and data transfer rates.

What I’ve noticed so far is that if you run on low graphic settings the loading time is cut drastically. So if ANet would give us the option to preload the map on low settings and returning to high settings afterwards automatically, it would be a much shorter loading screen.

What I’ve noticed so far is that if you run on low graphic settings the loading time is cut drastically(…)

Well that says it all doesn’kitten Your system is to blame (mostly), not anet.

When you use a WP, even in the same map, all the server has to do is move your position in world, simple as that, x,y,z.

You computer on the other hand has to go on the HDD and load everything that’s needed, if this was poorly programmed you wouldn’t notice much of a difference between high and low, it’s a case of fetching a high res texture instead of a low one for example, the overall speed of your system will determine the length of the loading screen.

As for your suggestion, trust me you wouldn’t like it, immediately load the world in low res and then progressively start loading in high res would be too annoying, all that pop in and all, but I get it why you’d like it, champ train, right?

Now instead of putting anet resources on doing something “useless”, you can try guest on a lower population server so by the time you get to the champ he won’t be down already, look at a swiftness, creat a chat tab where only the links to the WPs show in order. Hope that helps.

so basically… having the game on an kitten will drastically reduce loading time, just as it is for pretty much everything

EDIT: how is S.S.D. censored???

Server: Kaineng | Guild: Blackflame Legion [BFL]
Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server
Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22

Yes because loading screens are there only for cosmetic purposes. It’s not like the game has to load textures and models or anything..

You got something wrong here.
First of all, it doesn’t matter on which beast of a computer you play on, your loadingscreen will be reduced if the game loads the low resolution first and “upgrades” itself to high resolution afterwards, you might just not realize it that much.
Take LA as expample. Due to the high amount of character models the loading screen is very long. If you run low settings, including culling, LA will be loaded much faster.
Also, my suggestion isn’t useless, it’s very easy to pull off. ANet just has to combine the low settings with an automatic chance to high settings once the loading screen is finished and for a lot of players the loadingtime will decrease drastically.
Atleast, this idea can be added as an option so you don’t have to use it if you don’t want to.

Like xXxOrcaxXx.9328 said. Loading times can make yo to miss an event. I have a nice computer, and because it, i play with everthing maxed, but the load time is worse than my older computer because that. Borderlands is a nice example: the game load first the low-textures, then load the hi-res while playing. (The game already do that with sounds). Of course, this should be an option.

A better option would be to use the loading time (and loading screen) to load what they have to load: the 3d objects, while NOT stopping you completely from doing everything else.

Let us sort our inventory, look at our friend list, chat, LFG, mail, salvage, eat, and use the TP. There’s always plenty to do that has zero to do with loading 3d objects / maps.

4-15 seconds with the hands tied behind your back feel very, very long. 4-15 seconds of inventory reorganisation or interacting with a friend go by in an instant.

Id really love it, if Anet would remove for at least the World Map Waypoint Travels in PvE all of the Loading Screans and replace them with some kind of Character Animation, where the Character uses some kind of Teleportation Runestone that is based on Asuran Asura Gate Technology in a smaller scale, that is transportable. In the GW2 lore, somethign like this even exists and was used by Logan in the lore of the GW2 Books, its exactly the reason why he could so quickly get to Queen Jennah to save her, while the other Members of Blade of Destiny were going to battle against Kralkatorrik with the help of Glint. He had an Self Teleportation Device whose exact name i sadly forgot now.. but its exactly this thing, I’d wish to see as an animation to pop up, that shows us exactly, how our characters teleportate themself through timespace based on that technology that warps them through a slipstream, that could be visualized in that animation similar to Stargate or various other science fiction tv series, like Andromeda and until that visualization is over, until the game has finally loaded all of the data, then we iwll see, how our character arrives at the new map and moves out of the slipstream that has been created through the teleportation device.

Thats how id love to see this gettign done, because it would be an immersion breaker, like those permanent loading screens.
A Teleportation Mechanic/Visualization would feel amot more integrated and enrich the fantasy aspect of this game.
it would remove the aspect, that other people just basically disappear out of nowhere just in front of you, when they used a waypoint. other players would just see, what happens with the bodies of their fellow party members, when they teleport themself to an other place….

Even such ancient old offline games, like the GOTHIC games have such a mechanisnm, where quick traveling through magic just looks EPIC.

Thats why I’d love to see Anet removing ALL waypoints, and replace the basic mechanic of that system with consumeable Teleportation Devices like this from the GW2 book, and call it for example Teleportation Runestones, because thats what they basically are also named in the Gothic Games.

Teleport Runestones would allow then a player upon consumation to teleport at any coordination of Tyria, you want to teleport to (not just only the pregiven waypoints)
Coodinations would be based on X, Y and Z coordinates, where the teleportation simply doesn’t work, if the player uses some coordinates, that aren’t known by the character.
The player would have to collect “Coordinates” to unlock for the account more and more options to travel with those magical Teleportation Runestones to just everywhere into the game with known coordinates, that work.

Coordinates could be brief words, that could work like the coordinate system of the .hack games, words that simply stand for something that is associated with the place where you want to travel too.

So the 3 word coordinate you would have for example to use to warp yourself into the grove would be:

Calm * Spiritual * Holy Ground (would bring you to the grove for example, the sylvari hometown*

new Coordinates could be learnable for the player account throw traveling all around the world, reading books, talking with npcs, finding them as loot on mysterious paper scraps and so on …

It would be imo an awesome little homage to those awesome MMORPG simulation game that were offline rpg’s of the .hack series, which are a true iconic must have to be played games for any MMORPG player/fan and anime lover

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

The issue is that this would be more work for the computer to do.

Instead of taking a few extra seconds to load up the map on high textures, the computer will instead have to first load up the low textures. Once the low textures are loaded up the computer will need to load up the high textures while simultaneously dealing with all of the input which is coming from the game. On top of that changing graphics settings mid-game is not optimal there have been multiple times when I’ve tried changing graphical settings in the middle of a tequatl fight and have gotten disconnected because of it.
