Ok, I used to play this game Voyage Century Online…

Anyway, some of it was on foot, but most of it was on these big sailing ships and you had to pay for crew and all the stuff you’d need on a ship like that.

So my idea would be to have some additional maps in the open ocean or what have you… I dunno, set it up like a normal map or like a dungeon, not sure what would work best, and you could have ships manned by a party of 5, one navigating and the other 4 could operate cannons or other weapons on the ship.

It could be just straight up ship to ship combat, or if you wanted to do some kind of event about pirates, or a big monster in the sea (like the thing frozen in drakkar lake in gw1), or some event on a remote island in the middle of an ocean map.

Also there’s the opportunity for a lot more underwater combat/exploration in a map like this. Usually the oceans are just dead areas in games like this, so I figured it might be interesting to liven them up a little.

Lame idea or good idea? You be the judge. =P

Also, you could either sink the ship entirely, or it would be neato if you could board the other player/npcs ship, at which point things would switch to the usual combat system.

I’m sure someone could do something with this. It seems appropriate, especially for the amount of busted up ships I see laying around. Gives the impression there’s lots of ocean traffic.

I’d post a video of VCO just so people can see, but i’m not sure offhand if it’s ok or not to post videos of other games. It’s not my intent to advertise the game nor am I suggesting that any type of gameplay be taken directly from it

I’m just sayin’ it’s a good source for visual inspiration, especially since I haven’t seen too many ship sailing mmo’s.

I would not mind a ship to ship combat PVP area.
Making it along the lines of kegbrawl, have team versus team.
The coding would be difficult I guess, but wow it would be a fun thought!

i saw this thread and i thought YES!!!!! i would love it. i can imagine the cannons fireing and you could maybe attack a rope to a mounted harpoon gun and fire then zipline across to another servers boat. Anet need to know!!

It’s a very, very big update. Maybe when they introduce the Canthan expansion, we’ll get to sail to Cantha from Tyria. In that respect, it’s hardly a topic for now yet, cause that can take years still.

Naval warfare in wvw would be neat but i think it need a new map because the lake in center look a little too small for that and there could be like a dock you capture or something.

Yeah it would be a lot of work, and I doubt anything like this would ever happen but it’d be pretty rad IMO.

Oh that’s a good idea! There could be an additional map for wvw where there’s a few bases on land to spawn at and then naval warfare throughout.

Well it could be a lot to add, it wouldn’t be a simple update for sure.
