Taking Thieves up from standard trickery and deception and into the realm of shadow magic and the manipulation of darkness.

A simple way to do this would be to have Stealth apply a colour filter on your view, to make everything a cold bluish shade, as if to simulate you’ve phased into another angle of view.

The idea is great, and the suggested implementing method would work without increasing a servers workload overly much.

I actually really like this idea, it doesn’t effect PvE, but it effects WvW in a positive way. People complain that there is no real counter to stealth, this brings a counter to it and it also brings an interesting twist.

As of yet, stealth can’t be countered. Either a starcraft-style ripple or this kind of shadow realm is desperately needed to add a counter effect to stealth.
IIRC gw1 rangers were supposed to get stealth but it was never implemented because it is a broken mechanic by default.

There is no load at all. All this does is alter the way targetting works. Currently if they are stealthed you can’t target them. In this case if they are stealthed and you are stealthed you can target them.
Also the idea for shifting the color scheme to blue would require zero extra work because the game already does this. Lighting and color is altered based on where you are in a zone, not just in the world. As such it would take no effort to cause the lighting for the character to shift when they go into stealth.
