First of all, this is my first post. I apologize if this is the wrong place for this post.

That said, I’ll move on to the the point of this post, which is to ask that something be done about stealth. I don’t know what should be done but I can say a few things with certainty.

1. Thieves should not be able to 2v1 or 3v1, which I’ve seen several times.

2. Additionally, it is NOT fair that they can stealth and then finish their opponent off.

Quite frankly, it baffles me that Thieves (and maybe Mesmer, I don’t know enough about them to say for sure) can stealth as much as they do while they are in a fight.

I understand that this game is not WoW, but there is something to be said about stealth in WoW. Rogues could only go into stealth while in combat with Vanish, which was on a 2 or 3 minute cool-down. As far as I know it is the same with Mages and their invisibility move. I’m not sure if they changed this with the latest expansion, but Feral Druids used to not even have a move like Vanish, they had to run away to re-stealth while in combat. Also, if any of the above mentioned classes had a bleed, or DoT on them they could not re-stealth until the bleed or DoTs had gone away, or in a Rogues case they used Cloak of Shadows, which only removed magic DoTs and not bleeds.

I don’t like WoW at all, but I have to say these seemed like they were pretty fair trade offs for the stealth classes. Stealth is an extremely powerful utility to have in PvP. It allows the stealthier to dictate the pace of the fight, whether or not they even do fight, it allows them to run away freely to regroup and restart the fight. It is too powerful if it is not regulated with checks and balances. Also, when you add in the ability to self-heal it has an even higher chance of being out of hand.

I’d say that stealth in this game is a little bit out of control. I don’t think ANY profession or class should be able to 2v1 or 3v1 or be able to run away and reset a fight at, what seems like, any moment in a fight.

As PvP stands now, if I am forced to fight a thief, if you can even call it a fight, I do a little damage, they do more to me, then they go invisible, I stand there… then some nails pop out and I’m standing in them, next thing I know the thief is on me and I have to re-target him. When the thief comes back out he/she is more than likely healed up. Then basically it is the same thing over again until I’m dead, at which time the thief will go invisible again and then finish me off while I twiddle my thumbs.


TL:DR

Asking for something to be done to balance stealth.

Stealth is too powerful a utility when it is not properly regulated with checks and balances.

Some thoughts about how stealth is regulated in WoW.

A description of the general scenario when I’m forced to fight a thief, if you can even call it a fight.

If you are versing a glass cannon ( most of the time if they stealth that much you are) then use a ground targeted AOE and stay in it and watch it mess him up when he attacks. I ran glass cannon on my thief for a bit and a couple ticks from an AOE would cost me most of my health.

This hole game is about finding builds to counter your oppents build. Why can’t people understand that? So yes you may be able to take down some builds with the one you use but there will always be others that can beat you.

Fine, then make stealth not be true invisibility and instead make it a cloaking device of sorts. Your character goes clear but there is still an outline ala any storyline with caithe (this is how her stealth works if you watch her).

If suddenly not being totally invisible makes things harder on thieves, GOOD! The entire premise of being able to stealth after engaging in combat is bloody rediculous. Unlike most people on these forums I’ve actually trained in sword combat, knife combat, armored combat, etc…once combat is engaged you aren’t suddenly going to dissapear. It simply cannot happen, you could even try dropping a flashbang at my feet, game mechanic wise that would make ME go invisible along with you. Smoke? Guess what? That also makes me go invisible along with you. Seriously, THIS is how th game should function, if a thief uses a stealth skill while in combat they also give stealth to the opponant and the opponant gets every benefit the thief does (meaning if the thief cures conditions and heals while entering stealth, so does the opponant). Our characters are supposed to be trained fighters, veterans of combat on an insane level, a thief should be SOL when it comes to restealthing in combat.

This coming from someone that still kills thieves as it stands more often than they kill me. I just find the entire mechanic rediculous.

I have no problem with professions doing 1v2 or 1v3 and wining to be honest.

I will agree that I think that Anet needs to somehow fix it so Thieves can not do Stealth finishers.

every profession can do finishers and with that every profession can be knocked out of finishers. Which I have Rallied and come back to win the confrontation because of it. Doesn’t happen all the time and are few and far between when I have, although the case of how many times I have done it holds no weight here.

I think that Thieves should not get an advantage over other professions to finish off someone with out contest because they are stealth. I find this approach unfair and somewhat cheating. This is why every profession has the ability to stop Finishers, except when it comes to Thieves.

Now do take into consideration that I am not asking for thieves to be nerfed in any way, I am just asking that Arena Net removes the ability to do finishers while in stealth.

First off Stealth is not over powered in the main sense, it only last a few seconds and if a player is not playing it right it will never help them.

So you want to punish players that have learn to use stealth properly so you can beat them ?

How is that fair?

Horribly, Stealth is a perm effect in WoW and because of that rouges have no real disadvantage on an unsuspecting person. Also take into consideration that This is not wow stop trying to make it WoW. I left WoW because it was Faceroll I win and pay money to win. GW2 has far improved on PvP leaps and bounds beyond WoW.

I am sorry your not a Good enough player to beat out a thieve, I do it most of the time on my ranger. You just need to learn your spec, build and profession better. I have seen Elementalist obliterate Thieves in a blink of an eye, I have also seen them destroy 3 people all at once. Should we nerf Ele’s now because they can do that?

I agree with your No stealth during finishers but that is the only thing I agree with you on. I personally hate people that call for nerf’s cause they can’t beat a class or profession sorry that is my thoughts.

Your right in real life we can’t go invisible, in real life we can not dis-engage from a sword fight or knife fight and vanish.

On the other hand in real life we can’t throw fire balls and create clones of our selves in a blink of an eye. we can’t command animals to come and some how heal us for a mortal state, we can’t create a magical bubble around us that blocks all projectiles. We can’t Throw a sword at our foes crippling them as it boomerangs back to us perfectly, we can’t summon minions of hell to fight by our side as we take on the form of death and suck the life out of people.

Please before you start posting “In reality you can’t do” and please please remember your playing a Fantasy game, not a modern time reality game. As Charr don’t exist or norn or Asuara or Sylvari !

First of all, I’m just making some suggestions here. I never said I wanted to “punish” anyone. Additionally, I never said “nerf”. Not once in my post did I say either of those words. All I said was something needs to CHANGE.

If change is a punishment or a nerf, then good luck to you, because everything changes in life. Change is one of the only thing you can count on in life.

Secondly, I specifically said I know this is not WoW. I also said I don’t like WoW. I’m not saying that this game needs to be WoW. I don’t want to play WoW and I don’t want to play a WoW clone. I was just giving some examples about how stealth is managed in WoW. Additionally, I think that stealth is far better managed in WoW than it is in this game. Maybe I just PvP’d more in WoW than you did, I don’t know, but a Rogue could not just come out of stealth and “faceroll” 3 Warriors by itself. That would never, ever happen. You think WoW PvP and stealth mechanics suck? That is fine. You can think what you want. But you saying that they suck doesn’t make my opinion any less valid and it doesn’t make your opinion any more valid. Really, to me, it just makes you look like you’re angry.

It seems like you are just a Thief player that rages whenever anyone brings something up about your class. From my perspective you wouldn’t be so sensitive about people bringing up their concerns with your class if you didn’t already know something was wrong.

Yes the playstyle is fun, being able to stealth repeatedly, however it is horribly broken. Really alot of these complaints from people would go away if that while you were in stealth you also got a debuff making it impossible to heal (thus they need a new trait), impossible to cleanse (again another trait change needed), and immune to all speed buffs (so you have to move slow if you are stealthed), and make a thief forcably removed from stealth if they start to finish somone off. These are the primary problems with the thief for most people. It isn’t the stealthing so much as the fact a thief can have so many ways to stealth and stealthing can be traited to heal and remove conditions.

remove the third speed boost out and stealth do it to the fourth.

One of my main PvP toon was a rouge in WoW, I averaged 3 deaths a game under 30 to 50+ kills a board. Yes Stealth in Wow was not the best example.

Now You never said nerf, your right but you did say the mechanic needs to be changed so a Thief can’t roll 3 guys ( cause he is skilled ). Just so you know that is another form of calling for a nerf.

That is the reaction one expects from someone that feels a favorite toy is being broken.

No other class has a mechanic that allows them to determine when, where, and for how long a fight lasts. This is the problem.

Have a problem with turrets? Just lead the engineer away from them…most engineers get target fixation….same with warriors and banners. Guardians? Don’t open with a skill, open with a normal attack to strip aegis away.

There is no way to forcably remove and keep off stealth. There is a way to forcably remove everything from other class (kill the pet, strip aegis, kill necro lifeforce bar, kill turrets, kill clones) yet no way to forcably stop and prevent a thief from stealthing. How about a new debuff that every class has access to, that cannot be cleansed off that prevents stealth for 30 seconds (still longer than the recovery of aegis that so many people grumble about guardians having for free).

Haha, I have never, ever seen a “rouge” kill 4 Warriors, or 4 Paladins, or a combination of the two classes, unless you’re fighting people that are half your level or AFK’s or something. And I played for 6 years. A Paladin for 6 years, in fact. I’m honestly not sure what you’re talking about. In Vanilla, I would never beat a Rogue, and admittedly Rogues were very OP. But that changed, in TBC Rogues would never beat me, like ever. Unless they were really good. In WotLK it was pretty much the same, except at the end of the expansion when, IF they had the best PvE gear, they could kill you extremely fast, HOWEVER, if they didn’t succeed in killing you with their cool-downs, you could easily kill them. In Cata, they got a self-heal and they became OP again, but it was still more manageable than a Thief is. And now, in MoP, because all the classes have been given relatively strong self-heals, Rogues are right where they should be, perhaps even a little weak. In regards to, what I’m assuming, is a statement about BGs. Yeah, you can die very rarely and get a lot of Killing Blows if you just stealth around and only fight people when they are almost dead or kill steal your teammates. But, that doesn’t mean Rogues are OP in WoW that just means you’re playing really defensively and not really fighting people.

Second off your comment of No other class has the ability to determine when and where, and for how long a fight last. This is the problem.

You obviously have little to no experience in pvp. This is not assumptive this is an observation for you

Mesmers have two abilities that turn them Invisible. How is that not
“determine when, where, and for how long a fight lasts.”
They have one skill out of those two that turns a group in visible hows is that not
“determine when, where, and for how long a fight lasts.”

Set traps, Bubble, Turrets, Dodge away form said area there are plenty of ways to make stealth obsolete. Since Stealth only last 3 seconds it is pretty simple to out last it.

Mesmer stealth is extremely limited, and only a fool of a mesmer uses it offensively, as it ensures they won’t have them when they honestly need them (after I’ve rampaged through every clone they can toss out). Mesmers are not hard to kill, just rip through the clones before they can pop them. Mesmers cause almost no real damage on their own. YOU obviously fail at PvP good sir.

Mesmers also don’t auto heal and auto cleanse while in stealth and cannot even trait for it. Look back up at what has been said. THIS is the primary issue, everythign else is a problem for one segment or another but the primary issue is that thieves can trait to make stealth far too useful…tot he point of becoming a horribly broken mechanic.

Thieves have a defense heal because they are melee and easily ripped through if you know how to play against them which apparently the people here don’t know how to do.

So I leave you people to QQ and cry about a mechanic that you refuse to learn how to combat against and hope to god people like you never get your way, as it was people like you that ruined PvP in other games.

P.S. your statement was no other class can extend a fight like a thief can because of Stealth and I proved to you regardless of what you think another class can.

P.S. your statement was no other class can extend a fight like a thief can because of Stealth and I proved to you regardless of what you think another class can.

Sigh this thread fails with people that can’t learn how to fight a mechanic that isn’t really hard to combat against. So this is my last post to you people.

A guardian can heal a lot more than a thieve can a ranger can duck out of a fight far easier than a melee can and heal up and pin cushion you from a far. Warriors can do a ton of knock downs and heal while fighting as a passive ability along with Guardians.

Thieves have a defense heal because they are melee and easily ripped through if you know how to play against them which apparently the people here don’t know how to do.

Thanks for trying to help me out but man this is a lost cause. Just to waste my words one last time, to counter a stealth heavy thief use ground targeted AOEs and stay in them. When he comes in for the attack he will take massive damage (if hes glass cannon if hes not then he should not be able to drop you on the first go). This will cause him to make a choice stay and mby get the kill but will 9 times out of 10 will die himself or back off and try to heal. Most of the time anyone around you can take him out at this point if you need to back off and heal. If you for some reason were by jumped alone (why you would ever not be with atleast one other person in PvP i don’t know) then good luck because IMO thieves are the 1v1 masters of this game, if they know what there doing that is.

A thread like this pops up every week with some unskilled players crying about a mechanic they choose not to learn how to fight against.

id like to suggest a small fix. when stealthed, player move speed is greatly reduced and no tele/ gap closers or stealth is removed. this make aoe counters more viable.
