There was a thread a while back that discussed the disparity between influence earned by logging in when comparing a small (5-25 members) vs a large guild (50+ members).
To paraphrase by simply logging in daily a large guild could cover the cost of guild infrastructure far easier and faster than a small guild, the question was also raised that once a guild had built all internal upgrades what would they spend the earned influence on?
In my experience it is generally the larger guilds that bear the brunt of upgrade costs for the major battlements while smaller guilds look at handling upgrades of things like supply camps and to a lesser degree the low-value keeps.
As such I would propose that influence be used as a potential currency for WvW infrastructure upgrades combined with the supply costs for said upgrades. It would also allow for further “Art of War” upgrades to be added to the game in future.

What you need is 3 ‘deposits’ or banks.
Deposit a) Any player can put money in and any play can take money out for an upgrade.
Deposit b) Only party members can contribute and withdraw money for an upgrade.
Deposit c) Only guild members can contribute and withdraw for upgrades.
Reason you need 3 is because I imagine you’d get some tool who would spend all of deposit a on something useless. Having deposit b and c gives a degree of control as an option to the player.

Well, I was thinking about a deposit/bank for each individual upgrade. With that, each player can be sure that his/her investment will only be used for that upgrade and camp/tower/keep/castle that he invested in. Additional to that the player certainly can only withdraw the money that he put in…

I’m ok with a new currency for such things, but that won’t change the fact that ONE person has to pay for an upgrade. That would still bother me, no matter if it’s my gold or another currency…

I agree with OP, the cost is bit much although I’ve never minded paying completely with my own gold (Ive got plenty to spare). What I would like to see implemented is a box that pops up under the “upgrading x, defend the workers” asking for donations. As people donate a bar is filled until it is fully funded and the upgrade initiates. As for karma cost I don’t have any real answers, maybe remove as others have said or add a donation bar like the previous system I suggested, but for karma!
Edit- Others that suggested a keep bank, I didn’t fully realize (or read) what you meant at first, so if it seems as if I completely copied, I didn’t mean too. Still talking to you particular fellows, any comments on this similar suggestion.
