Does anyone want to see the ability to have the computer, using your own third party text to speech program and voice, to be able to read aloud the quest and npc dialogue? Text to speech has come a long way, and today there are some very good text to speech voices that sound very very natural. As for the third party program, maybe it’s better to have it be integrated into GW 2 and all you would need would be a text to speech voice pack.

Like text to speech in GW 2? First of the obvious reasons of some users having easy eye strain. I know there are times I really want to play some PVE, but it is a late at night and my eyes are pretty tired from work. My work has me in front of a computer for 8 hours a day.

Second reason is simply for the increased immersion factor of hearing the text read aloud. Like I said, voice has come a long way and there are some really great sounding voices today.

Okay now on to speech recognition in GW 2. Think of the program dragon naturally speaking or the integrated Microsoft windows speech recognition or Mac speech. Now speech recognition already works with many other programs such as fire fox where you can say the text you see on your screen and your mouse cursor will click that text if it is a hyperlink.

What I think would be best would be the ability to read into your microphone a dialog option and have the game select that option as if you click on it with your mouse.

I think this would be amazing when text to speech and speech recognition are paired together in npc interactive dialogue. Imagine having the NP C’s script read aloud to you as if they are speaking to, and then you use your own voice to reply by reading of one of the response options.

That would be a pretty cool feature, however, I’m not sure how much work would have to be put into it, and if it was a lot, then I’d rather ANet focus on other things.
Of course, there would also have to be a toggle option for it.
I definitely support speech, dialog choice recognition, or whatever you might want to call it.
I don’t think any of this would happen any time soon at all though.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
I have been playing mmorpg for 10 years and have always had a tts running to speak the guild, group and raid text. It’s too easy to miss stuff while you are clicking and moving. And.. this is a more emersive experience… in real life, your group would be talking to you … not typing.

Advanced Combat Tracker (ACT) can provide an example. Triggered tts from a log file. If I can do it, then AR can. all of the software exists… AR2 just needs to tap into the internal log stream and route to windows TTS service.

This also solves a major issue with GW2. Groups. They aren’t happening often enough and need to be encouraged. It’s so much easier if you hear the other guy talking to you.

I have my computer set entirely for touch screen input, hand gesture input and speech to text and voice recognition. I wanted to see if I could use WASD control and mouse for camera panning, but have skill use based on voice prompt only. I could imagine spvp for hot join would be a lot more efficient. I can keep my eyes solely on the screen and players without having to take that half second look. It didn’t seem to work at all despite what measure I made. I guess for now I will continue with my naga mouse..and I guess at the end of the day I still need to blink down to look at conditions and boons. It was one thing I enjoyed a lot about gw1..you could turn skill explanation off or now and format anything on your screen into what HUD style layout you wished.
