Since the very beginning of Guild Wars 2, I loved jumping puzzles. Some of them are more challenging than the others, some of them less, but I like them all nevertheless. After completing them all, I like to go back once in a while to do them again, be it for monthly, daily or pure fun of it. One of my favorite puzzles in the game must be The Obsidian Sanctum jumping puzzle located in the Eternal Battlegrounds. The only major issue I always had with it was players literally standing and waiting at the very end of the puzzle to hunt the fellow puzzle jumpers. The puzzle itself is not a short one. It takes roughly 10-15 minutes to complete. And after good portion of the time you get to the end part, just to be either killed by team of players from another server that been waiting for you there for some time. Sometimes you get knocked/pulled off the edge by a Mesmer that was there for the same exact reason. It literally took all the fun and challenge out of the puzzle. I gave up on doing it for some time. That is until I found out that it was being made it’s own instance. I got ecstatic and eager to go back and do some jumping. I had fun the first 2-3 times since it was always empty. I actually had fun in the puzzle once again, since a very long time. I kind of figured since it’s its own instance, it is not held by the rules of WvW, so there was no more “camping” and pulling people off edges. Didn’t take me very long to find out otherwise… I ran by a group of people from another server. I bowed and waved, in hope they won’t kill me, since I didn’t have any intention of kill any of them either. I was here for jumping excitement, not the excitement of fighting. They politely bowed back, so I continued on. Once I finally got past the dome part and got to the top of the structure, I was pulled all the way down to the bottom by a Mesmer’s secondary skill “Into the Void”… At this point I proceeded in killing thus Mesmer, and logging off the game completely, since my jumping experience was once again completely shattered by a Mesmer.
So I guess the whole idea of me sharing it with you is that I’d like to plead Anet about maybe considering making The Obsidian Sanctum into a war free zone. Especially since I constantly come across small groups of people literally waiting for their pray just to get their WvW kills. They’re not there for puzzle, they’re not there to have fun… Well, maybe their idea of fun is ganging up on puzzle jumpers. At this point I even have respect for those groups that they wait at the very beginning of the puzzle instead of the end, because then I don’t feel like I wasted 10-15 minutes of my life just to be killed at the very end in front of the chest, which literally feels like you’re a kid that is having his candy taken away and eaten right in front of him.
Please Anet, just at least consider it. At this point, I’m not even asking for more.

I don’t have so much of a problem with fighting while in the puzzle, sure it’s annoying to go all that way, to only die at the end before the reward. My server is in in T1 (before the reset, and now) so I know the frustration. I’m fine with the fighting once you you jump down from the spawning portal into the jumping puzzle; my problem is when you’re up on the platform and being attacked. First of all, if you’re standing at the edge of the platform, fine, take damage, or pulled off it, but when you’re on the opposite of the platform (hugging the wall where you think it would be safe) you get yanked all hthe way across the platform and fall down. That and/or some form of aoe on the platform (enemy target the ground below the platform and you take damage) and die while still on the platform. Can take the waypoint, to only die again and again.
Was this method of fighting to be intended? If not, maybe add some sort of buff where no damage is taken, or some sort of shield so those who stand near the portal or the wp wont die. If this was intended, then I guess I can’t trust I’ll ever enjoy EB jumping puzzle, oh wait I can’t either way, because I’m dead at the spawning platform.

Please use a paragraph break. I couldn’t read your whole paragraph. Gave me a headache.

A TLDR would also help if you don’t want to use paragraphs.

I’m serious, not trying to flame, just tried to read you whole post and I just couldn’t.

I think you want the Sanctum to be a PvP free zone.

If they make the Obsidium Sanctum a PvP free zone, they need to remove the badges from the chest.

I don’t mind it being a PvP free zone as long as those badges are gone.

I don’t mind it be a PvP zone either. Gives some players a place to duel. I’ve seen several doing that while a few from the other server mates stood aside. No reason to really bring a whole zerg inside there so it is a good place to have such events in their non-sPvP gear set. Some like to fight with all the stats and traits outside of sPvP.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.

i don’t mind there being pvp. but it is pretty much a cave for trolls to hang out and jump on people. getting hit mid jump and crashing down because someone poked me with a staff and i got the ’you’re in combat now! snail speed!’
There are some areas that are particularly bad, first after the well jumping over the walls and pillars. ppl stand below and just do a pull. second in the ‘arena’. same deal, and if it’s a mesmer bonus for having portal to go up and down at will.
I would change all areas with jumping parts non pvp. because once you get hit, you can’t continue. combat speed is too slow for most of the jumps. i.e. determined flag on in there.
Areas where no jumping happens have no determined in them. I’d put them e.g. at the bottom of all drops so when you mess up your jump, it’s fair game (except in the area. i hate that place it’s troll heaven). just give players a fair chance at seeing the attack. Basically when i come into the arena room and there are red tags waiting above, i just relog because it’s a waste of time.
