What about mounts?
No.
Been discussed to death many many many times already. ANet said it’s not happening. Mounts would screw the whole way point system, it’s there for a reason. There is no reason to add mounts whatsoever, other than extra bling, it’s not needed.
False, I read an article and Anet said that though there are no mounts in game at the current time that it might be something they will look into in the future.
let’s not forget the if Anet wants to have a successful game they WILL have to listen to what the players want.
They can listen, but it doesnt mean they will implement the stuff.I mean i can listen to you all day long, with hearing a word you’re saying.
No, this game is fine without them.
However, if an expansion opened up another island/world of some sort, maybe they could be implemented there….ground mounts only though…none of this flying bs.
I’d support mounts if:
a) they didn’t move any faster than normal speed but ‘trotted’ at the sme speed and cantered when speed buffs were actioned
b) they introduced no variations on combat so you would fight on your mount and were limited to certain weapons to do so (much like with underwater fighting)
c) there were limited mounts achieved through ways other than a perpetual grind, but rather more imaginative ways, which would stop a lot of the QQing about not to do at level 80
Beyond a and b though, not interested in their implementation.
Big NO to mounts. Just not in this game. Thats my opinion

Lol @ these mount arguements.
I stand by my statement:
Yes: @ Level 80 (Ground)
No: In ANY PvP Setting and not in towns, encampments, anywhere there are NPC’s were kids can park thier stupid Mounts on the NPC’s and yell Hur Dur.
Loathe WoW and the Community it brings.
Yes to Mounts. that’s the only thing i feel is missing
This would not be good for the game for a few reasons.
1. The maps are designed with walking and using WP’s in mind. Waypoints are a very important money sink that prevents inflation. Using mounts would also let people skip over content and ignore dynamic events in the area.
2. No where in the lore or the story or anywhere do we hear anything about mounts other than with asura. A Norn or Charr would never ride a mount while traveling; it just wouldnt happen. Asuras already have golems (yea I know other races can ride in golems but they are huge so…). When people in this game travel on foot, they use a dolyak or other pack animal to carry their belongings and walk beside it.
3. Mounts are obsolete when you can use waypoints and asura gates to get to far places and walk anywhere else.
4. Bling should have no part in this. You already have minipets, weapons, armor, dyes ect. to show off. People that care about the story or immersion at all would not want a huge group of people riding on pink sparkly drakes or whatever everywhere.
5. When you make something like mounts, you force everyone else to use them (regardless if they want to or not) as walking just makes you slower than everyone else.
I dont think it would hurt the game to put something else you can ride in WvW as they already have golems there (something like charr war wagons/tanks) and the areas are so vast and open, but I REALLY hope we never see mounts in the normal areas. I get it that alot of people from WoW loved their mounts but this is a different game.. Its ok if it isnt exactly the same.
1. The cost of using way points as you get higher in level is way to high to be practical in any sense.
2. Every culture throughout the course of history has used mounts, yes this is a mmo and fantasy andnot reality but lets be honest a Norn is simply a knock off taken from Vikings or Norsemen…guess what they too used mounts.
3. See number 1
4. From what I have seen mini pets, weapon and armor skins are only available to players of the first GW and as such has no effect or impact on new players and as I stated before kinda not fair. I could care less how many hours you put into a dated previous edition of this game. I showed support the second I bought GW2 and spent over 50 dollars in gems. That = support as well in my opinion and should be rewarded.
5. No one forces anyone to do anything, if you don’t wanna use a mount then don’t. Using your logic why would you even care if anyone else has one? After all you have your over priced way points you seem so fond of.
1. The game’s economy and map creation was based on waypoints. The addition of mounts would not only disrupt traveling throughout Tyria, but also create a gap in the game’s economical progression. Therefore the way to solve the waypoint charge issue would better be the reduction of the prices rather than the creation of mounts. Perhaps later in an expansion and (of course) in another map.
2. What video game creators are trying to accomplish is the creation of a universe with its own characteristics. Even though the universe ArenaNet has created is inspired by reality, it still has some special characteristics. Noone who has played the first game will approve the fact that a Charr might actually be riding a Dolyak.
3. See number 1
4. There is a vast variety of weapon, armor and minipet items in the game right now making it easy to impress with them. No need to have played the first game at all to obtain them.
5. The appearence of mounts actually forces players to use them. Let’s say that I got a group to explore an area. We are 3 and 2 of us have a mount. They ’ll simply get it out and rush towards their destination. I too will be forced to get a mount.
Ground mounts. Maybe…. Not a huge buff or ridiculously huge. It is starting to suck in Orr going from event to event and all the WPs are contested. Never air mounts. That took away so much from wow. They are fun and all, but just starts to skip so much game play so easily. And if everything is getting skipped, then why even add it in the first place?
Flying mounts didn’t take anything from wow. Don’t know where that is coming from. Nothing was skipped since wow is a typical ! over the head mmo. Not like that game would give you any surprises for exploring in the first place. IMO flying mounts allowed viewing of places where as you can’t from ground mounts.
I vote for mounts being added.
They don’t have to be a substantial speed boost, but I would prefer if they were in game.
Nothing drives some people like trying to collect all the mounts in a game.
No mounts. We already have waypoints and plenty of shiny stuff for people to collect. Mounts that provide a speed boost would quickly become mandatory and anyone without one WILL be discriminated against in any and all types of group content. I had to deal with discrimination in GW1 and I don’t want to deal with it here.
Me personally… I wouldn’t want mounts at all. It is already quick and easy to get around in all the zones. No mounts is a nice time sink. MMO’s need time sinks just as much as they need money sinks in the game.
Most people with mounts would bypass alot of content on purpous. they do it with other MMO’s so why would this one be any different?
No I say walk/run. So it takes you a small amount of time reaching somewhere. No instant gradification. Mounts in my opnion are just not needed, plenty of waypoints. If the one you want is contested… so be it. Go uncontest it.
It’s bad enough people today complain about walking, do they need to do it in a pretend world too?
Well, I really do not know why you care about what other people do in this regard. You want to walk? Go right ahead and hoof it. But why do you feel the need to force others to walk as well?
No one can force you to use a mount and there really is very little fallback on you if I rode a mount. I see no reason to oppose mounts…if you dont like them…dont use them…but let others choose for themselves instead of pretending that you know what is best for them.
I think we all agree that mounts are essential, since the waypoints do not feel anywhere near natural. Giving money to a floating rock…
I like the idea of mounts giving permanent swiftness. Maybe a little faster than that. But they can only be used in PvE areas. They are only ground mounts (No flying! Flying mounts killed WoW.) and can only be obtained after performing a hard quest to unlock the option to buy them around level 40. Then it takes a large sum of gold to buy one from the mount vender.
I would LOVE to have mounts in the game.
Lvl80 only and not for PvP.
I found farm those mounts to the end of time.
Now I usually use waypoints as much as I can, with some epic looking mounts I would be much more inclined to run around the world. (=come across more events/people that need help etc etc.)
For all I care they wouldnt have to give it such a huge movement speed bonus either, just a bit faster then running at least.
What is with everyone saying only at level 80? That makes them pointless? The whole point is so its easier to travel and explore. If you are 80 you have already seen almost everything.
Mounts tend to get exponentially more ridiculous as the game matures, so you can’t go within 10 miles of a bank or crafting station without getting lost in an ugly sea of giant spiders, be-saddled baboons, two-story horses, etc.
Thank Lyssa GW2 doesn’t have mounts, and good-riddance, I say.
No mounts, please.
I think we all agree that mounts are essential, since the waypoints do not feel anywhere near natural. Giving money to a floating rock…
It’s called “tax”. Taxes for passing trough certain checkpoint are being collected since forever, up to present days. I’m pretty sure that money are being used for Waypoint maintenance and/or going towards anti-Zhaitan military fund.
No to mounts – They were a faster mode of transportation period.
This game already has the fastest mode of transportation, waypoints.
We have run buffs for when we want to run through a zone and the only time you can’t have a continuous run buff is if you are alone and on CD.
Someone else mentioned dismounting and that is a valid point. In WoW I would just fly overhead or run past people on the ground all the time. Someone people here might dismount and help, but I would have to think that most people would just say “Im on my way to X location – and just blaze through without stopping”
No.
It is clear this is a handcrafted map meant to be explored on foot. Mounts would upset the balance of this:
There are certain events, such as escort missions, that have participation built partially around the idea that is as easy to join them as it is to race past.
Most importantly: random grouping and teaming (as opposed to marked events on the map) is built upon the concept of players moving in the same direction at the same time, at a pace which encourages team work to get through hazards.
There’s a certain balance to this game, in its social construction that I think people are missing here. And the social construction of this game is what it will live or die on.
And on a personal leveling, I despise being crowded out by mounts at merchants and the like when my character is on foot.
Remember reading about this before and I sort of agree with it. But mounts (especially flying) take away any scale of the game and make exploration attempts trivial. That IMO of course.
I would be so much more satisfied if there were as little waypoints as possible in the game and instead people would have to use mounts to travel around. It would make the world so much bigger and make exploration more enjoyable.
I hate to bring in WoW to this discussion but one thing i loved about old WoW was when in order for a nightelf to get to the human starting zone he’d have to run for several miles and taking two boatrides just to get to the destination and it used to take almost an hour if you didn’t have a mount. Flying mounts ruined this.
Which is why i only support ground mounts that you can unlock at, say lvl 40. Then they could remove several waypoints and in the end they would actually make the world of Tyria seem so much bigger. Not to mention the fact that it would add yet another layer of character progression in the game where you could strive to get your first mount and also be a collector. In my opinion, every mmorpg has to have mounts, Guild Wars 2 needs it badly.
I am for mounts if they do not increase your ground speed. There should not be any flying mounts as that takes away from the grandeur that is Tyria.
I think we all agree that mounts are essential, since the waypoints do not feel anywhere near natural. Giving money to a floating rock…
So a large cat riding some wild animal feels natural, yes?
A great engineer riding a wild animal instead of building a vehicle?
I am for mounts if they do not increase your ground speed.
It doesn’t make sense lore-wise. Why would people started using mounts if they’re not giving them any advantages?
In my opinion because there is waypoints and speed buffs u don’t need mounts, but would be awesome that somehow u could get free waypoint travelling after something, or atleast 50% of the cost at the moment?
Yeah it’s better, it’s way better to be connected to the wildlife, an engineer could make his temporary vehicle, which would give him a speed bonus
It doesn’t make sense lore-wise. Why would people started using mounts if they’re not giving them any advantages?
For the look ofcourse. I use my Tera CE’s Regal Frostlion all the time just because of how awesome it is and for roar sound when I press space (it roars so awesome that when I tune my speakers up my heart is shaking ).
edit:
Here, take a look for that awesome Frostlion (not my movie):

False, they’ve said they will never add flying mounts, ground mounts are still a possibility. But personally, if they do them just like WoW, a flashy speed-boost/status symbol, might as well leave them out. There needs to be more to them than that.
No.

They don’t want mounts not because it’s bad. They just want us to spent money on waypoints so their moneysink work as intended. No it won’t – people are teleporting for free to the Mists, go to Lion’s Arch with Asura’s gate and then pick another Asura’s gate closes to their destination just to save few silver coins or don’t travel at all and they just farm Orr over and over.
Also don’t get me like “I wanna mount” guy – I don’t participate in PvE content at all since I’m hardcore WvW’er so it doesn’t bother me and I believe in current WvW design mounts are out of place (battlefield should be much larger so introducing mounts would be reasonable or mounts should be like 105% of player’s speed)
There needs to be more to them than that.
100gold Warhorse to move sieges with 20% player’s speed. Now that would be awesome
(edited by Marrond.1385)
I am 100% for Mounts. At level 80.
Edit: 100% Against Mounts in any PvP.
^ This!
Though, I wouldn’t say only at level 80 (even though its not hard to get there)
Only ground mounts though, flying ones defeat the purpose of having made Tyria so pretty.
And yeah, no mounts in pvp/wvw please…it puts the less fortunate players at a huge disadvantage and just gets annoying I think.
For people saying “If they didnt move faster”
I am against that, I would want a mount to travel and explore quicker specially if I am going back through the game a 2nd or 3rd time.
i wanna see my char mount a dolyak
No mounts!
After reading through this thread, I have to say, it just doesnt seem like GW2 was made to implement mounts, and implementing them would trivialize a lot of the content i enjoy. So no go for me. I cannot see mounts in this game. Plus looking at the world, and the design, i think mount would just clutter it up. You can go ahead and say, “well in our world” but this isnt our world, this is Tyria, and i like it without mounts. It isn’t necessary. But thats just my opinion.
Plus, it might create the problem wow had in my opinion, that is higher level characters had mounts, then it would seem drab for them to go back and help their lower level friends because “you are so slow!!” which i dont like from the perspective of how this game is designed now so people still have fun going to lower areas to help out their friends. idk, i think it would be a hassle and would break something wonderful in this game.
Idk, i just want to let Anet know that there is one more person who doesnt like the idea. Just make the waypoints a little more manageable money wise i think, but even then, i dont really have a problem with them (then again im not a miser with my money XD )
No mounts!

Your opinion is valid but I don’t see how anyone would make you to actualy use mounts. Sure you want to travel on foot, that’s fine but what you just said is pure hypocrism. You don’t want people to change your gameplay (and they won’t as I said they can’t make you to use mounts if you don’t want them) but you’re not allowing people to enjoy their game (and for them traveling for 25345234523 minutes nor paying 2-5 silver for teleport is not fun). Remember point of view depend where you’re sitting at the moment.
No, no and no pls.Mounts are only boring and usless features.Gw2 is a different game from the outhers.
-Mike Obrien
Dont want them in WvW but I want them in PvE. First one around level 20 and then every 20 levels or so a new faster one. The role player in me misses not having a mount. I hate the WP system for many reasons and I would much rather ride around on a mount.
boring and usless features
Sounds like a whole PvE for me. Boring and useless.
i wanna see my char mount a dolyak
I could see a Charr in some mechanical contraption they tinkered. Charr design huge war machines but people cant see them on a mount? I dont get it?!?!? Same with the really smart Asura. Like they would spend their lives running everywhere to keep up to a walking Norn. They would invent a mount in a min flat. The lore fits mounts and its a MMO standard and really missing in the game. I was willing to try the WP system and I didnt find it made me be ok with not having a mount. Love the game but need a mount!!!!
Mounts are just….a foolish idea.
The only mount I find acceptable, is one that runs the SAME run speed as a player. (Maybe 5% at the fastest)
In everquest, they had slow mounts. (as well as fast…but)
-No matter what weight you are carrying, you can move as if unencumbered.
-Innate Safefall
-Food consumption is doubled.
I know weight and food really doesnt matter. But something to do with maybe a buff in GW2 would be nice? Fast cast time…I don’t know.
Either way, mounts for speed is a no go.
(Edit: As a role player, I’d like to ride a mount around. Not for speed, but for roleplay reasons.)
Oh by the way anyone ever heard of Perfect World? Yeah some bad Asian P2W MMO. But one thing there was ultimately awesome – one person with specific male race could transform into tiger/lion/or_something_like_that and another person could mount him. How about Asura can jump onto Charr’s back and then Charr get swiftness?
I don’t see how it would work in comparison to using Way Points. Personally, I think it’s a bit of fresh air to move around on foot. I could actually take the time to appreciate the scenery around me.
However, if mounts were to be implemented in this game there has to be a few restrictions like:
- Not allowed in Dungeons, even outdoor dungeons! OR Include super-fast mobs that do extra damage to mounted players (both in and out of dungeons), similar to the mobs in Caudecus’ Manor that do extra damage to moving players. In some MMOs that allowed you to use a mount in dungeons, I find the dungeon to be of bad design if 75% of the trash could be skipped by using a mount. I don’t find that sort of dungeon-run to be enjoyable. That’s assuming the trash is of reasonable difficulty of course.
- The mount should have its own health bar and if killed/destroyed, it could be revived by the player. However, unlike the regeneration of player’s HP, the HP of the mount would only regenerate if it is not moving.
- Player should auto-dismount when entering an area where a Dynamic Event is in progress (unless the Dynamic Event allows for it). This would almost force them to participate. In order to mount up again, the DE must be completed or that player must retreat a certain distance away from the event.
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
I think mounts may work a bit differently, but it can probably be done. Minimum level 80 is pretty obvious….probably even 100% map completion. If they were very pricey, this would help deal with the money sink issue. A note on that – even with mounts, we’d still be using waypoints…just a bit less. I think mounts could be in WvW, but should offer NO speed bonus (just visual). In the normal world, maybe the mounts offer a small % increase speed and otherwise are just as fast as the hero normally is. On my thief, I run 25% faster already because of my signet. If my mount added 5%, this certainly shouldn’t stop me from dismounting to join events, revive players, etc.
I think the addition of mounts is totally feasible if planned well. My ideas may not be the way, but I bet there is one.
Make mounts only as fast as the highest and longest lasting speed buff. Make them totally cancel out if you go within the orange borders of a dynamic event. That way you don’t have a ton of people riding around on mounts blocking your view as you try to complete the event.
mounts could also be used as a money sink (unless you’ve earned a permanent one through a particularly hard event/dungeon) in that you could have rent-able mounts for all levels that move a slower pace than the earned ones. It could be a good replacement to the higher quick travel fees as a money sink.
As long as the only mounts are ground bound Moa, I say it’s a good idea. I don’t like the idea of unique mounts. Once everyone get’s them they aren’t really unique. But you could have multicolored moa birds. They don’t do anything different, but the color you pick to ride that day can say something about you.
I doubt there are many meh responses when it comes to mounts. Would I love to see them in the game? YES! Will it break my heart if they never come? no.
Once everyone get’s them they aren’t really unique.
At some point everyone will have Legendary items and therefore they won’t be legendary anymore… oh wait.
If anything they should add mounts for 1 reason: People will pay money for them in the cash shop. Mounts are kind of a big deal to a lot of players.
Just give each race their own mounts so that you can tailor the mounts to the right size. Disable all passive buffs while mounted so that all players move at the same speed. If you’re really concerned about mounts making map exploration too easy make there be penalties for being attacked while being on a mount (maybe you get crippled, or you take more damage, or you just outright get demounted).
Who said I think Legendary weapons are a good idea… oh wait.
Completely against mounts hope they never add them. Also am I the only one that doesn’t think waypoints are expensive?
me too..
waypoints prices are fine as it is
level 80s can earn 5-10 gold per day, i don’t think 2-3 silver per waypoints is too high
let’s say even we use waypoints 50 times per day, it’s still a surplus
I do not see what adding a mount would do to this game would not cost to travel from one place to another would be slower than teleporting. I don’t have any issue with adding them at all. having to were you could fight while mounted would be cool teat the mount as a weapon with a set of attacks or have an option to have it attack or defend like a pet only then mounted. Also have it unlike a pet that will come back after getting killed this would not so that way would keep away from abuse. Only usable out side with enough room can be healed and brought back like a player. Doing it this way would and should keep all balanced. As for flying mounts or flying in general would like to see it and have a few ideas on how could be done with out it being abused. 1) limit it to high level only maybe 50 or 60 area level range. 2) only usable on your self for a short duration and any thing that requires geting to by other means like chest that requires jumping on rocks or some thing such as that if fly used to by pass and make easy the reward would not be there (empty chest). 3) flying creatures and range attacks both would make it hard and level also getting damaged while flying would ground you when down by more than have your total health. 4)flying mounts would work the same as ground but also would have all the flying things imposed on them as well and as the mount is caring a person after it gets close to half would have to land (the damage for person and pet would be split between them half and half so the mount would have less health than the player ). i think if this was done it would keep every thing even
