Why no mounts?
They put up a picture of a guy on a horse at the start of Flame and Frost
They gave us Riding Clothes as town clothing for gems
Mounts are coming, it is an indeniable fact. Even if a Dev came here and said there will be no mounts, i wont believe them. Why would you introduce Riding Clothes if you do not introduce mounts?
Oh wait, i forgot this is Arenanet…
No, “you” want mounts.
Many players have no interest in them. They would serve no useful purpose in GW2 and would only increase server load and lag.
Please search the forums as this has been posted at least once a week for the past 6 months and another thread is really not needed.
Who is this “we” of which you speak?
Hush and go ride your broom.
No we don’t. You want mounts. I do not.
and I want free legendaries

I don’t want mounts for one simple reason. It takes developer time which can be used somewhere else. There are a lot better and more important things to do/fix before mounts ever see the light.I want the time developers spend to be on something more usefull.
With how waypoints currently work i don’t need and I don’t want mounts. That is my personal opinion only.
When i’m in a map and i’m porting from one waypoint to the nearest waypoint it’s instant so why would i want mount? If mounts are added they must not be faster than your normal swiftness running speed.I don’t want mounted players to have an advantage from the running ones.
Also if they are ever added in the game i don’t want them usable nor in the cities nor in the dungeons. It will be too overcrowded.
This is coming from a person who had 143 mounts when i was still playing WoW at the end of Cataclysm.I was,I am and I will be a mount loverI just don’t see their use right now in the game.
What i may want is an improved logging screens when i port from other map and removing the need to enter through logging screen when i pass on foot from one map to other.Keep the overflow but hide the logging screen. Now that will improve my playing time.Even if mounts are added logging screens will still bother me if they stay like this
I will beat that dead horse again and again until it stays in da freeking grave!
The broom was only the beginning. I would wager on cosmetic mounts that do not change speed.

That’s the one type of mount I wouldn’t mind at all. Saddle up a quaggan and I’ll give it a second look indeed!
No we don’t but thanks for the input.
Add mounts, and get rid of these stupid waypoints.

Why ruin GW lore like that? Map travelling goes all the way back to the original Guild Wars, as does the lack of mounted travel.
Who cares about mounts when you can speed dial any found, uncontested asura waypoint in the world for a few silver at Level 80.
RIP City of Heroes
Can’t say I’m seeing a huge reason for mounts given the waypoints all over the map. Sorry.

Sorry, I thought they were stupid back then, too. Didn’t fit the game at all.
Sigh—not another one.
Mods please merge with all the other mount threads.
Enough with the mounts already! I’ve seen like 5 bajilllion posts saying “where are the mounts?!”, this is not WoW, or any other MMORPG. Waypoints are a far superior system so please stop asking.

mounts would put more players out in the world. There are players that lvoe to ride around on a horse, just like me. Nothing bad can come from giving an option for mounts. Why no?
The answer is simple: mounts don’t add anything to the game. We don’t need them. The world is too small for mounts, and we have waypoints to boot.
yes they do add to the game. They add immersion, and companionship for RPers. They add collectables for achievement hunters…
Yes, but gameplaywise, they wouldn’t work. So instead, they’d be like minipets. And I can understand why at the moment, Anet hasn’t got the resources to add a second type of minipet to the game.
Why wouldn’t they work?
Look at the broom from the gem store.
Why not do that, but make a horse.
Any man here who wants mounts will be shot on sight!
Desolation
gameplaywise. As in, they wouldn’t be practical for travel. You can’t give them speed boosts higher than running because it would upset game balance. Also, the zones are smaller than in WoW, and more cramped in locations. For mounts to work gameplaywise you need big open fields, not shallow mountain passes or old ruins.
As vanity items they would work yes. But it’d cost a lot of resources to make them, and I totally understand why Anet won’t go into that right now.
Mounts should simply be a costume item or toy. I think those who really want it aren’t complaining about travel time. They’re complaining about character building and aesthetics. While not everyone is big into role playing, a lot of people would like to, at least, look the part.

Considering this is a world in which teleportation has been around for hundreds of years, adding mounts for transportation would actually break my immersion. Particularly when I think about seeing several dozen personal motorcycles racing around over Orr.
Creating mounts would also take a great deal of work. Animating each one to fit with each race’s style of riding, animating each armour set to work with as little clipping as possible, animating the mount itself, probably adding skills to it too, working out how to acquire mounts and adding in new content for that. Really, for something that’d take away from the scenery’s cohesion it’s an awful lot of work, especially when there are quite a few things in need of fixes.
Yes, mounts would be nice. and it will add a new objective atleast for me to work on.
i wouldn’t mind if it doesnt have any speed increase.
also another unrelated thing i want to mention
Waypoints get annoying sometime with all those loadscreens and stuff, these things prevent people from enjoying and traveling in this beautiful world(i thought devs improved open world rewards, because they want to get people spare out in this world). people just WP to where ever their destination is because theres so many of them.

Mounts in GW2 wouldn’t add any immersion…I don’t even recall an NPC riding any sort of beasts except maybe a Dolyak.
As for the broom, it’s a town cloth. It disappears the instant you take damage.
Sorry if you want to ride around on horses so bad here is a game for you:

That is basically what the arguments for mounts equates to it seems.
I honestly think the way point system is much better than having to ride across an entire map to get to a place. If I have been there before let me quickly get back and not waste my time trying to find the place again.
The only room for mounts this game has are for cosmetic ones in LA, but I don’t even know if those would be worth the insane clutter of having 50 people standing on an npc with giant horses blocking the way.
Purchase a riding broom.
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
I have seen this said so many times, and always cringe when I do, but it does fit from time to time.
There are plenty of other games out there if you want mounts.
If it means that much to you, I STRONGLY suggest you go play one of them as Guild Wars is not suited to you, or more precisely, you are not suited to playing Guild Wars.
I really have to wonder, why do people start playing a game that is different from all the others out there, then try to turn it in to “the other game” that they like to play so much? If you like the other game so much, go play that and leave us alone. GW2 has been perverted enough by players trying to turn it in to another clone, enough is enough. Go away.
Just because I enjoy riding a horse doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy GW2…
I’m playing GW2 because it’s vastly superior than any other MMORPG out there.. but I do miss riding around on my mount. It was a very fun, peaceful part of my day.
I’m not suggesting we replace way points with mounts or anything..I’m just saying I’d like a horse to ride around on.
I haven’t really missed having a mount in this game.
Level 80 Guardian, Thief
Minions of Grenth, Jade Quarry

I completely agree.
It is like the whole “player housing” movement. Why do people want that in this game? They already have it in other games, we don’t need it here.
I would like mounts. I wouldn’t have posted on this issue again but I feel like I should add some contra opinion to this “boooo no mounts” outcry.
And honestly all that reward heads out there are allowed to ask for more and more but people into something like mounts, are not?
Far superior to mounts would be pairs of coconuts, complete with sound effects.

They liked it in other games, so they want to add it to their new favorite game. It makes perfect sense, but I do agree mounts do not fit in GW2.
My Predictions are, Mounts will be similar to town clothes.
Non-Combat. Non-Speed Increasing. Vanity Items.

That is just it. Just because they liked it in other games, does not mean it should be added.
GW2 is a different game with different elements. People need to understand this.

I would be completely fine with this.
But to those of you saying I should go to another game simply because I liked 1 aspect of other game is silly.

Why are mounts an absolute NO?
They add something to the world… I miss galloping around on my horse in other RPGs..yet.. gw2 is my favorite game. I wish I could do it here.
1) because over 90% of the people playing this game do not want them
2) you have way-points
3) the entire purpose of the PvE areas is to encourage working together which is a main objective for the next few month an mounts take away from this.
4) look up other mount threads before post this again… There re mount threads every few days and most everyone says:
NO MOUNTS!!!!!!!!!!

This is quite true. However, I’ve never seen a single objection to coconuts. Just sayin’.

1) If 90 percent of players do not want mounts then why are there so many threads about mounts day after day?
2) Stated in my earlier posts, the point of mounts are not for travel, but for Rp, vanity and play.
3)You’re reaching.
4) Multiple threads on multiple topics. Point?
If I want to ride mounts, I’ll go back to WoW. So, I don’t want them.
If 90 percent of players do not want mounts then why are there so many threads about mounts day after day?
Because those who cry the loudest are also the ones who are representative? Strange logic.
I would be fine with mounts as much as player housing. Don’t care either way except for one issue…mounts would exist in the open world. That means more things for the server to show and an increased lag for a lot of people. Since mounts add no use beyond cosmetic, it’s not worth it. If the team wants to dedicate a few people to stuff like player housing, I’m fine with it. Fun stuff for those who want to RP and it stays in an instanced area. That my opinion on this.
I want a charcopter or airship, preferably loaded with plenty of ammo.
I don’t want a horse unless I can have cannons and bombs and make it fly. No thanks on the char tanks. One gun isn’t enough and it doesn’t fly.
Why there should be mounts?
There is already all those waypoints and so it’s not really must to have mounts like in other games, where you are forced to run those long paths.
They would then be there only for visual meanings and… oh, we already got riding broom and that is exactly what I was meaning.
Case closed.
Still reading this? You know there is something better to be done for sure. -.-’’
I think mounts would be cool. I certainly wouldnt agree with the premise that players dont want mounts, but they wont necessarily be disappointed if there arnt any. However I think its another area they could expand aesthetics. The riding broom is technically a mount, its just at the same speed as walking. But its cool, and after buying one I kinda hope they bring more of that into the game. At least a horse xD In an interview with Colin Johanson, he said that there is really no point adding them because of waypoints. Thats true, but the point is because of aesthetic value, its cool, its fun. You might as well say having different colored dyes is useless for that same reason. I think Colin said that as an excuse because Anet really doesnt have the manpower to spend on those types of things, sadly.
