I am quite enjoying GW2 as I knew I would from playing GW1. There is just one thing that I find to be a bit annoying.

I has to do with the personal story. I find the story quite appealing and it keeps me interested. I always want to know what happens next. I especially like how you can choose multiple paths, either within the same race or by selecting a different race. It really helps with replayability.

What doesn’t, is the static world that exists. Now I know there isn’t much you can do about that world and, well, you are doing quite a bit with it so that it isn’t so static as is typical in MMOs and kudos on that effort.

But…

Why force players to break in the personal story to grind up levels in that world? You have a system that will drop a person’s level so that they just don’t run around one-shotting everything. The world content is always worth exploring at any time, even after reaching level 80.

So my suggestion is to adjust the xp awarded doing the story missions so that you are just the right level to enter the next one.

This’d be nice. It’s always kind of jarring when you get into your personal story and reach you level limit.

so you expect the personal story to be able to lvl you from 1 to 80 exclusively? Seems rather … ridiculous.

You could do only the story in GW1 from start to finish and if we count all campaigns, you could get to max level in20% of the story. So his suggestion is not ridiculous. it is just right. It has been suggested many times and ignored repeatedly by A-Net.
They are just adding new Living story content instead of fixing the whole Story so far.
It is more ridiculous you need to get a medicine to save a friend, but, wait, you need to grind a few level helping random NPCs which have nothing to do with your story and don’t even remember you for what you did for them – see the manifesto – and then you can go to get that medicine. That is more ridiculous in my opinion.
And what is more ridiculous is the ridiculous amount of repetitive grind you need to put up to level up.

I’m not paying a subscription fee. Why is it ridiculous to not waste my time?

Planescape: Torment doesn’t make me grind modrons for an hour for every five minutes of story content.

First off.
1/ the NPCs remember you in so much they become karma merchants. Sure it’s not perfect but maybe you shouldn’t be that negative. At the very least a.net tried which is more than I could say from any other dev.
2/ there’s no repetitive grind involved in levelling up. I’ve got no idea where you got that silly idea.

So while breaking the story flow is bad, suggesting such silly things is a bit stupid. Fixing this would be as easy as putting the cap on 20 once more, but then again a whole lot of people looking for a free WoW clone would cry me a few rivers.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

Leveling is already too easy and fast, I really don’t see a need to even further boost it. Whats wrong with going off the beaten path and exploring a bit between story moments ?

I think they should add more end-game missions like they had in guild wars 1 Eye of the North. Especially the charr part was amazing there. Build on stuff like that.

if only max level would be 30 you wouldn’t have gated maps and gated istances.
the progression from 30 to 80 is utterly boring and meaningless.
in fact we are downscaled pretty much everywhere. instead of being so only in the maps near major cities.
don’t get me wrong, i like the scaling feature it makes me play wherever i like and i’m happy about it.

I kinda like having to go out & level though, it keeps me busy. I’m sure there was a greater purpose as to why Anet did this.

Until they remove XP boosters from the gem shop, they’re not getting the benefit of my doubt.

Crafting XP is a suspicious feature too. Why does this exist if Arenanet truly wanted me to “enjoy the world”, possibly against my will? But it certainly helps make me poorer, and thus doing the gem to gold swap.

Here is the answer so you can see what I mean

Everything in this game is grinding. All hearts, PoI,Vista are the SAME in every zone. There is NO SINGLE QUEST since or before Halloween that will take you to more than one zone to do it.
You are just repeating the same content over and over in another zone with a different look. All the quests you do – aka heart quests – have no connection with you or your story.
GW1’s quests were totally in connection with eachother even if they were secondary quests. In here is they drop 10, 15, 100 more events in one zone they are still random variations of the same thing with no connections whatsoever to your character.

The only thing that is different in GW2 compared to other MMOs is the scaling down system which amplifies the statement EVERY ZONE is the SAME THING.

No matter if you are lvl 80 in a lvl 15 zone, even a little lvl 9 grub can kill you with 2-3 flame bursts because of this system. The game’s challenging idea doesn’t do good in a long term because even if you get to lvl 80 you are a noob in every zone, always scared you might get killed by a single hit.

yeah sure, never get killed in queensdale since i’m lv 30 btw, and now that i’m lv 80 in exotic i can solo champions there. me and a friend killed the jungle wurm in 2 back when the event wasn’t farmed.
i still like the lv scaling since it would be useless for me to be in queensdale at all if i oneshot everything and don’t get nothing in return.

i agree that hearts are the same content over and over in different skins, the only connection they have is to the environment and the general setting (we are all worried that elder dragons will strip us out of this world or even worse corrupt us unless you are a happy sylvari).
it would be a little better at least if people in your party could contribute to finish the requirements as in dynamic events and if they would be a little meaningful, just like dynamic events

I agree. The XP boostes were marketed as “convenience” items but as the traditional quest log has been replaced by the scouts and the kill 10 rats quests have been called “heart quests”, also the pay-to-win has been named “convenience”
Here is simple example that many of you probably didn’t make it before

Lets think of an event that gives 1000 exp and you need to kill 10 foes that give 100 exp each
The event happens 5 times in one hour

a) the player with no exp booster
1st run = 10 kills x 100 exp + 1000 exp = 2000 exp
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th = 4 × 2000 exp = 8000 exp
so the total exp per hour is 10000 exp

b) the player with the 50% from kills booster
1st run = 10 kills x 150 exp + 1000 exp = 2500 exp
2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th = 4 × 2500 exp = 10000 exp
so the total exp per hour is 12500 exp

If we make this for 10h play = 100.000 exp compared to 125.000 exp

The faster leveling progress is seen perfectly
