I don’t think its fair that hard core players who do Guild missions, fractals and such get all the ascended we Caucasus who only have time to do our dailies and get laurels – don’t. That is to say I think all ascended items should be able to be bought from laurel vendors.

Also, I think as of right now you can only get SOME from laurels and not all…. while yes it promotes a reason to do content, maybe hand out laurels as regardless instead of ascended gear – regardless of drop rate.

Caucasus…Caucasians? Casuals?.. Anyway this game is already HIGHLY casual as is, leave fractals of the mist (fotm) for the few who wish to have something long-term in the game to do. You can obtain everything except the back-piece from laurels (as far as I know). Also unless you’re doing FoTM exotic gear works more than sufficient, ascended only really helps for AR, otherwise the stat boost is not noticeable unless you’re talking VIT since it’s 1:10 ratio.

all ascended gear should be available from ALL forms of play … this game was supposed to be ‘play how you want’ and its turned into another pve dungeon grinder

would not hurt to give the players more options.

perhaps in the future, ascended items can be acquired using lots of karma as well.

Play for the fun of it rather than this odd need for “progression”. It’s just a carrot on a stick.
WvW and sPvP…fun and more or less no need for progression, just increase your own skill, ocasionally change your build to switch things up.

maybe 168,000 karma for a piece of ascended equipment?
it costs 42,000 karma for a piece of exotic equipment.
multiply that by 4 and we get 168,000

Wow, you guys are all hating on the few pieces of ascended gear that give a minimal, undetectable increase in stats (outside of VIT 1:10 ratio)… Can anyone determine if someone has ascended pieces over exotics? Absolutely not. You’re not gonna say “wow, if I had ascended gear I’d be just as good as that guy” You will not tell the difference of an additional 50 power unless you pay close attention, 50 vit is another story.

WvWvW is about running in packs and ganking/ambushing players.. how is that skill based? Sometimes you get a 1v1 and sometimes 1v2-3, but many times you’re doing 1v1 only to get jumped (which is why it’s a good culling is being removed).
sPvP is a serious grind to rank up, do you have any idea how many hours it will take to rank up to end up looking just like a PvE player. sPvP has minimum appeal with very little reward & many serious pvp players either quit or moved to WvWvW.

I think you guys are selfish.. you want to say “everyone should play the way they want” yet out of your own selfishness want to restrict others from doing what they want for their sense of accomplishment. Why? so you can feel better about yourself? You certainly can’t tell the difference unless you’re inside FoTM and need AR, so what’s the problem? You’re not running FoTM obviously, so why not “play for fun” in whatever manner you’re doing. Ascended gear isn’t hurting you any & ascended gear doesn’t even exist in sPvP. WvW is about the only place it could make an impact & yet if it’s 10v10 you’re not going to tell a difference on 3/10 players in ascended.

From what I’ve seen legendary and exotic there’s no real difference other than skins. But ascended jewelry compared to exotic there’s a big difference in stats.

One I was comparing last night (amulet)
exotic (power 60, precision 90, condition dmg 60)
ascended (power 85, precision 126, condition dmg 85)

Now that’s just one piece, so 5 pieces of ascended jewelry will make a difference.

fully upgraded and full max infused will all the ascended gear you gain 92 (62 from ascended items +30 from 6 masterwork infuses) to your major stat and 30 to your minors, thats not a huge difference for the cost it takes to get that level of boost (the max infuses for the +30 to a stat choice alone costs a load in passion fruit bits)

Okay now let’s examine the difference on a whole with your example, the power/prec/cond. amulet (Coral gear)

Exotic accessories/amulets/rings allow for upgrades.
Ascended accessories/amulets/rings allow for infusion.

#1. We take the exotic item and let’s grab an Exquisite Coral Jewel off the TP for a few silver. Stats on jewel? +15 power +25 prec +15 cond

Okay so now we have an amulet with power 75, precision 105, cond. dmg 75.

#2. Okay let’s take the ascended amulet & let’s spend another 5 laurels and add +4 to precision, since it’s our highest stat & we like crit rate %

Okay so now our stats are: power 85, precisions 130, cond. dmg 85.

That’s a big difference in precision! However, let’s go ahead and work out what does this extra 25 precision do for our character’s crit chance? I personally have found ~19 precision = 1% crit (at least on a guardian, assuming all classes are same). So with this 25 precision we’ll gain roughly 1-2% extra crit chance.

Okay that’s all good but it’s been a month & we want to switch our build up a bit & we still like our power/prec/cond. dmg but we want a bit more power or bit more cond. dmg…

Let’s goto the TP and buy a different Exquisit jewel and replace it in our existing amulet: the bonuses will always come as 25 /15 /+15

No let’s try this with our ascended amulet… let’s spend another 5 laurels and get +4 desired stats.

CONCLUSION:
Ascended Amulet = +10 power / +25 precision / + 10 condition damage

How do we determine how much better off we are with +10 power/condition dmg & 1~2% crit chance? I leave the decision upto you ladies & gentlemen /bow.

I love the “you don’t need ascended gear argument” it is a convenient way to side step everything. Listen, you don’t need anything in game. That doesn’t mean we should gate everything behind different styles of game play so everyone is forced to do crap they don’t want.

There is just about nothing to do in pve aside from working towards ascended gear. I don’t agree that they did the best job with obtaining it atm, however I would bet you, they did it this way to buy time. They need time to release good everlasting content and putting something like a karma sticker on it just isn’t gana last very long. Maybe more creative quests/missions/story line that help unlock ascended armor/weapons in the future but right now there isn’t enough on our plate for any real progression skins or stats.

May not like it, but this was a good move on their part. I say hold out till like may and see what content is release. Who knows, maybe they’ll fix spvp once and for all (balance, reward/incentive) and release some amazing pve content b4 they start opening up the other continents. And maybe, just maybe, they will open new doors that lead to the gear/skin’s you want. They have said b4 they want many ways to get these new items but it won’t happen in a month when there is soo much other fixing to do.

There already is multiple ways of getting some of the gear, the main way is by laurels which are generated over time by basically doing what ever, that fact alone is a bit of a kitten for those who are actually trying to use it as it was intended only to find only 1 slot is actually given by doing the content its needed for alone.

Yes it gives slightly more stats than exotics but not so much that kittening because you don’t get it for free is valid, it doesn’t prevent you from doing the content you want (unless the content you want to do is what it was designed for in which case you have to do other content first to get it before progressing)

A full set will give you maybe 4% crit rate or a marginal damage increase per hit, if your fighting exotics vs ascended the difference will be negligible.

Wow isn’t the only MMO out there… I thought these forums outgrew this comparison :/ But anyways..

At first when I joined gw1 and moved to gw2, I wasn’t in favor of end-game being skins. But over the time I grew to enjoy it and respect it. And from what I’m told, people in gw1 spent months if not longer just working on skins, suggesting the large player base that moved (I know, gw1 is still alive so not all that large) is already in the mindset of working on skins. The problem lies with the new comers who are used to the traditional mmo mindset. Ascended gear, although statistically miniscule upgrade, is gear progression but not enough to change anything. Its like going from a 18 to a 20 slot bag/box. People want the best so they will work on it. Problem is, most people are impacient and want it “RIGHT NOW!” when it just isn’t realistic or responsible.

To those whose leg bends back when they hear the sound of traditional mmos, join a guild. Work on gaining influence. Unlock guild missions. Sit back. Have fun. If that long process doesn’t suit you well move onto a legendary or something… don’t ask for easier ways to get already mind blowingly easy to obtain items. Ask for better/more fun options if anything or suggest an idea that would be better/more fun but don’t expect any content that is out to become easier. Ridiculous…

I don’t bother with dailies because I don’t find them fun.

You can make 2200g just playing the game the way you like to play and buy a legendary.

You can’t get an ascended trinket playing the game you like to play if you don’t like to do dailies or FoTM.

No, not that we should be able to have it. That we should be able to access it through our normal game play that we find fun. You can access everything else this way, including legendaries. Just not ascended trinkets.

If someone put sunrise on the TP for 2g, then you could have it for 2g. That’s how the TP works. If you don’t understand how the TP works, you should probably stop typing on the forums and go back to school.

And, I’m not quite sure how you fail to see the difference between being able to play the way you like to get get gold to buy stuff vs. needing to do something specific to get stuff.

One gives you the option to do whatever you want and one pigeonholes you into a specific style of game play whether you like it or not.

If you feel there is nothing for you to do after you get a legendary, why do you bother playing at all? Do you even have fun grinding that much?

I don’t earn cash fast, but between fighting in WvW and playing the market, I have taken my initial investment of 50g from gem purchases into quite a bit of gold. And I have no desire to do fractals or dailies when my playtime is limited and I prefer to WvW.

Arguing how much things costs doesn’t make a difference to me, because there is still the chance of me getting enough gold just playing the way I want to to afford it.

Also, until legendaries have better skins or better stats, I have no desire to grind a legendary.

There is hardly anything to do period. Get 80, get some exotics, maybe work on ascended just to have the best stats of your choosing and a couple skins. I have like 800 something hours playtime (prolly 200 of that is afk or lfg however) and I could of stopped at 400. Already had all the skins I wanted (not tp skins), got all the exotics, had all weapon/utility/healing/elite skills unlocked and had like 50g. Nothing to do. Then came along Ascended gear. Although not the most “fun” thing to work on, is something to do none the less. Any less and youll have naked toons dancing in LA until the Liongaurd get accused of manslaughter.

So whats the issue with laurels? That’s 40 laurels/month meaning every month you can buy an ascended gear & btw Fotm only gives ascended rings & back, those guys still have to do dailies for laurels like the rest of the gamers. Many FoTm players feel for the work they do the rewards aren’t enough. There are 2 sides to this… They are doing what they like, yet are pingeon-holed into having to run around doing dailies. This comes down to impatience.. if you save up laurels you will be full ascended except back piece in a few months, just as long as it would take to get a legendary if you focused hardcore on it.

Since you haven’t done FoTm or maybe tried it, idk.. it takes a while to complete, esp if you’re with new players. So maybe these players are like you & their WvW = FoTM. But they want a legendary… ur not making much gold in fotm, trust me. So you can’t buy a legendary & people standing around camping world bosses are accumulating rares for ectos & occasional exotics, possible precursors. So.. catch 22.

I’m on the forums posting so therefore I’m not playing, I gave up on legendary long ago & now im bored with the game, so I spend my time on the forums giving advice & reading stuff – none of which usually goes anywhere other than giving people insight on things I’ve learnt.

This is where skill > stats.

There is 2 things that are wrong with just putting a price tag on “end-game” content.

1. Since there is currency exchange, if someone wanted to, they could literlly toss money in and get ascended out. That isn’t fair to the people who may of actually worked for that X gold.

2. If you put a price tag on something, where is the sense of accomplishment? Where is the content? Why even make anything other than LA wvw and spvp if ppl are just going to sit in town and buy things and not go out to explore? Your probably the first to request less content and I am shocked.

Obtaining ascended gear isn’t exciting, and it surely isn’t near perfect, but it is this way for a reason. Start releasing new content that can be bought with old currencies and your left with nothing to do but retire from the game. Would be better to have quest/story line or something that in the end rewards you with the new gear/skins but that takes a lot of time/effort/planning.

I have like 7 ascended rings in my bank and I don’t anticipate selling them, I’d rather they be salvagable for things like ecto and mist essences. But the ring itself is something to work toward (either through laurels or fotm. Both of which arn’t hard to do but will take a lil time). Same goes for the amulet and earrings(excluding fotm as these are from laurels or guild commendations)

First, you can already sell the rings to the merchant for 5s, so you would have to sell them for more on the TP.

Because, there is a stat difference between ascended and exotics – and this game, especially in PvP/WvW, is played around the concept of min/maxing your character.

I would be just as happy if I could get ascended gear with badges of honor. It doesn’t need to be the TP.

However, it just so happens that the only stats not available on the TP are ascended stats, so what makes them so special?

Furthermore, allowing FoTM players (who apparently have kitten tons of this stuff) the ability to sell them on the TP or salvage them (by making them NOT account bound) would give them a way to get rid of their inventory and make a decent amount of cash on it as well.

Play the game for what it is, explore its content. The philosiphy of “playing it your way” can only go so far because everyone would like to be lazy and get spoon fed the content. It’s nice to be cattered like that. Fact of the matter is, you will have to step out of your comfort zone once in a while to get the necessary things in life (or in game). And EBG jp offers BoH, so what the people who just run that rq and jump out can end up with full ascended gear? Karma, laurels, and coin/gems (currency exchange) are rewarded in wvw and get the same things pve ppl get. Laurels do get you ascended gear except for the back but, I know a ton of ppl in wvw who could give a kitten about the small stat bonus.

When I do pve, or group up with others in pve, we breeze through content like its nothing. So making it even easier by allowing coin to buy ascended gear is just nonesense. If they did allow BoH to buy ascended gear, however, it would have to be a ton like 5000 or something. BoH aren’t hard to get.

Yes, too, as in FoTM and with BoH. Let me explain for you since you are feigning lack of comprehension:

All levels of gear (based on stats) should be available to all players based on the various aspects of the game.

TP is the easiest way to make this happen, and it has a precedent as being the place to get everything else currently. However, it would equally good (and perhaps better because of the large amount of QQ from everyone) that they aren’t purchasable for gold – rather they are available for the various tokens you get from dungeons or WvW and for Karma.

So, you see, its not about making them available on the TP, that was just the easiest and probably best suggestion. It is about making them accessible for players outside of FoTM and dailies.

TP is for coin, which is easy to get/buy. So no, tp isn’t a real good suggestion. BoH maybe for a large amount, dungeon tokens well maybe a mix of them all, because ppl would just do cof or AC exp and be done with it if thats the case. Maybe 300 of each dungeon token including fotm for amulet and earings. I agree, there should be options. But absolutely no to coin. Account bound currencies/tokens only.
