So, there’s been one thing that have made me curious.

What does the Sylvari skin feel like, if you touch them?

Are they tough as a tree or soft as a flower?

And when cut, do they ‘bleed’? When opened up, do they leak like Charr or Human, losing their important nectar? Do they have organs?
If you cut a Sylvari up, what do they look like on the inside?

I’m just curious, sorry if I come off sounding like a crazy Asuran doctor xD

I assume a sylvari’s skin would feel different based on what the sylvari does. For the PC that is meant to defeat Zhaitan, it’s hard bark.

A crafter however is probably softer skin.

Sylvari can also have bleeding so they must bleed something. Probably water I assume.

The sylvari are omnivorous humanoid plants. Some sylvari closely resemble humans but with a fey cast to their features such as tilted eyes and pointed ear tips; most display plantlike features such as hard wood for bone structure, have foliage and petals for hair, and bark acting as flesh. Golden sap moves through their veins instead of blood and pollen falls off of them as they move.

So they do have sap, not blood also based on other interviews I don’t think they have internal organs like humans do.

As Atlas said, they don’t have human organs. What they have is plant organs that fulfill sylvari needs. e.g.: pitcher plant sack to break down food. The sylvari look humanoid on the outside to imitate humans but the pale tree didn’t know how humans work on the inside so while they may serve similar functions, they are not simply “plant versions of human organs”.

Since they’re pretty mobile and flexible like humans I’d assume their skin would be pretty thin, soft and smooth. It would just have a stiffness to it since their skin wouldn’t stretch the same way if barely at all. :s

and they don’t bleed, they ooooze gold juicy stuff.

sap for blood, leaves and bark for skin. A jaw, for example, can be formed by leaves, vines, or even shards of bark that grow and press together to form the silhouette, but if you look closely you can still see the fibers and holes of the structure. Instead of bones, an arm is a mass of tightly-woven stems and leaves that work together to do the work of such a limb. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dream_and_Nightmare

So they can vary. Dependent on if the sylvari has more leaves or more bark. or they may be a combination of both in different areas.

There are 2 distinct Sylvari skin styles during character creation. One more resembles foliage / flower, and one resembles bark. So different Sylvari have different feels, I assume, some more bark-like and others flowery.

My understanding has always been that it varies from sylvari to sylvari. It can be viney/fleshy, flowery, or harder like bark.

I’ve generally always had a distaste, honestly, for calling it “bark”. Bark is not flexible enough to accommodate limbs that can freely move and bend. And it has to be at least somewhat fleshy, because having joints pretty much mandates the ability for at least minor stretching of whatever the top layer of “skin” is, or it will simply tear.

Anyway, I keep an open mind of how people see their own characters, but my general interpretation is that, again, it varies, and can be from a wide range of different “skin” types.

I’m guessing there’s ups and downs to having flower or bark skin.

Sylvari with bark might be naturally more resistant, but will also be more constricted and restrained in mobility than a Sylvari with more flexible, flower like skin.

Depends, honestly. You’d probably have say -“bark”- interlaced with vines at the “joints” – after all, as Ezekiel and SinerAthin mention, pure bark would be rather inflexible. OOTH, I’m surprised the ArtDevs never considered the anatomy to work somewhat like a combined endoskeleton (hardwood, vines as ligaments) and exoskeleton (reinforced vine-weave/bark). But, let’s be honest here. Fantasy world anatomy will always be … strange.

Some kinds of wood are more bendy than others, and that would include their bark, which in our cases are never worse than our bites.

That’s what she said.

BAM!

Actually, when you look really close at the sylvari faces in customization, you can see the different skin textures. One of the male sylvari faces has hollowed out cheeks (as if his face was made of bark and parts of his cheeks, uh, fell off?) that show a sort of inner muscle/epidermis-ish structure.

If you look at the character creation, there are two different body skins for the same physiques, one looks like bark the other looks like leaf. So it’s both, different sylvari may have wooden of leafy skin, mine personally has leaf.

I agree with Red. I think the one that has barkish skin would be bark like and the smoother skin would be more like grass and leaves.
