Guild Wars 2

Because they are involved in nature, they have growing leaves on them, ears and their hair as leaves. I just think it’s amazing. Even though I have to play the background story over and over from each sylvari alt/main I go on. I still love it. I know the map of sylvari pretty well, found all puzzles and such myself. I, I just admire this race.

I decided from the start that I was going to play at least one of each race, and I have. I’m quite fond of my Sylvari though. When I started I was concerned they might be too much like WoW Night Elves. In the end I found I quite liked their earnestness and the way the writers have drawn on Arthurian lore. They feel distinct because of that.

But most of all I like the fact that my character’s spiky hair glows in the dark. It’s that simple.

i regret that i didnt roll a sylvari at the beginning.

then ive read about caithe, trahearne and sylvari in wiki, and made my own plant.

i understood why they brought such a mirror in later story of orr, why trahearne havent
joined an order and got the glowing sword, some things about tegwen and caithe, alot more about the sylvaris origin and so on…

its just the most amazing story of all race`s stories ^.^

Actually I was set on Norn but now im gonna level a Sylvari because I heard they got Jennifer Hale voice acting.

I was doing map completion in the grove on another race and it was a combination of the atmospherics and the music—especially the music. I rolled a Sylvari ranger that very day.

The sylvari caught my eye, they looked so unique that i couldnt pass it up. then i got into the idea and the lore. You can go anywhere and do anything you want with a sylvari just because it is the nature of a curios being. I love it

dispite my name… i do have a charr, they are just too war bound for my liking though. =\

I thought the Sylvari looked amazing, and their world did too. And I must confess they remind me a lot of a race I have created in my wip original story and this made them even more appealing for me.

I played Sylvari because in most mmos I play high elf, and well Sylvari seemed like the ‘Elf’ of Gw2. So I thought I would stick with my race of choice.

I wanted to play all the races, but particularly the slyvari because they seemed like something new and different. I’ve never played a plant race before.

Why I play the sylvari:

When the “Races of Tyria” video came out (the second promo video for the game), Caithe had a quote, “Magic is not a tool, little one, it is a rhythm that unites us in it’s current.” Since then I was sold on the race. Even before that though, after finishing Eye of the North, I was intensely interested in the new race of Tyria and knew I would probably be playing them.

On the Guild Wars 2 Guru, I created a thread about the sylvari design, and after 300 pages of talk, their current design was unveiled. Man I love their current design. I don’t know if an Anet dev read any of that thread or not, but theorycrafting what the race should look like was a lot of fun.

I was going to play a Ranger Sylvari, because the Sylvari had an amazing racial skill called Grasping Vines, but then it got nerfed. It used to be a 1200 range area of effect root, so basically exactly like the Entangle Ranger Elite skill, but ground targetted at 1200 range. It had great synergy with the Ranger longbow Barrage skill. I decided to go with Sylvari anyway after the nerf, but now I never use that skill.

It’s also nice how the Sylvari have a very short history with almost unknown origins and it’s very out of the ordinary to play a plant. But the main reason is that sylvari and ranger seem to fit well together.

What made me what to play a Sylvari was the considerable amount of customization options. Not only is there a wide range of skin tones but also I get to choose what color I glow/pulsate.

Plus I thought the lore of the Sylvari was pretty interesting. I hope that future expansions may expand more on the lore of the Sylvari.

I thought they were are fairly unique race, even though they are obviously heavily inspired by other more generic elvish races. The idea that they are relatively new to the world is an interesting twist, and I love their links to Arthurian legend – I only wish the connection was more involved than just one or two low level personal storylines.

I also love their customization options, and being somewhat of an environmentalist, I love their plant-based atributes. The game definitely needs more leafy armour and weapons!

They are a unique race from all other games. I suppose you could lump them in with Elves if you wanted to but overall they are unique to me.

That and the dark skin looks amazing as a Necro.

I chose the Sylvari because of they had an impact on me when I first bought the game. They are plant-like beings and seem to be all about love. Also, they remind me of Night Elves.

One thing I noticed with my character is that he seems a bit full of himself?

I’m always hearing,“I make a great team.” It sounds sarcastic lol.

Because I just loved their lore and their look…and of course, the glow!!
I am forever sold on the sylvari. Already up to 3 sylvari characters. Heheh.

Various reasons, but one that I’m not sure has been mentioned yet: their body-shape. If you want to play a properly slender, willowy or skinny character, you have to be a Sylvari. The humans are all Marks & Spencer models with broad shoulders or hips!

Simple I just adore anything of high fantasy and the Sylvari have that edge, there also very pretty, I was hooked when the devs released the race in the preview section of the Guild wars 2 web sight. Currently playing a Necromaner with the dagger/focus and staff variants.

I also find Sylvari female body types more appealing than the Human ones. But really what made me choose the Sylvari is their unique beauty and their innocence. I tried out other races and found that I simply couldn’t do without the Sylvari aesthetic.

The Sylvari aesthetic appealed to me: the approximation to humans, particularly the novel plant hairstyles! That, coupled with the youth of the race and them wanting to know more about the world they’re in – which was a bit like me when I started playing the game!

Honestly i didn’t want to as i ’’new’’ i hated them but when i wanted to try out a ranger i thought…. sylvari felt like the right race to be and then i got hooked on the story, so loving them now and i don’t hate the at all, in fact there my second favourite (Asura first :P )

I picked a sylvari because i like nature myself, and their innoncent mentality really inspired me. Their 3 choseable phrases like “act with wisdom, but act” and “everything has a right to grow” really are lessons humanity in the real world should learn. But besides the psychology behind its lore and way of living/thinking. The looks were amazing, and no game has them like the sylvari in guild wars 2.

Because they’re beautiful. After I created my Sylvari, Ishyal, in the CC, and seeing her with her glow, I just KNEW she was going to be my favourite.

Novelty I guess, you don’t often get to play as a sentient plant in games! It makes a nice change from the usual elves/dwarves/humans in fantasy games. Plus, I love ents and plants generally, and the concept art looked interesting.

Got hungry and clicked the one that looked most like food.

At first I wasn’t interested, didn’t want to be a plant.

But when I was making my third character, I played with all the races and found Sylvari are extremely well designed. The asymmetrical features, skin colors, glow etc. I love my Sylvari now.

I bought the game not even two days ago, coming out of WoW. Never played GW1 and knew very little about the lore of the world, but was drawn to the Sylvari because they seemed to be completely different from everything I’ve ever played before, and I’m in no way disappointed. I love how they’re portrayed, from the classical “elven” fey-like existence to their wonder and almost naive view of the world. I even enjoy how their darker sides are explored with the Nightmare Court and to an equal extent (thus far at level10) with Caithe’s cold and jaded aloofness contrasted with the PC’s heroic persona.

I hope to see and work more with Caithe. She strikes me as similar to a fresh-out-of school young adult that’s been burned while still being sheltered, reacting the only way their limited experience allows them to know. It makes me want to crack that cold exterior open and help her love life again.

I thought I’d be a Charr before the beta came, when I got onto beta though, I fell in love with the Sylvari Thief I mades animations and incredible details I could create with my character, so when live launched I swapped to my main class, Engineer.

So here I am today as a Sylvari Engineer, Paxar is my name, bringing the pain in PvP is my game!

I avoided Sylvari at launch. They seemed alien to me. An odd race. Then recently I completely fell in love with them. The bio luminescence is simply gorgeous, but I also love the lore, the design, the starting area, the main city, the tone. Everything is just brilliant and gorgeous. They are so classy, unusual and mysterious. And the writing in the personal story is the best I’ve experienced so far. Plus I like playing a rare race that is under used.

Initially I had absolutely zero intention of playing Sylvari. I sort of fell into the race by way of the Thief profession. I had planned to make a human thief, but the more I read up on the class, the more un-human-like it seemed; too many teleports and shadowsteps and other “magical” abilities for a (relatively) mundane race. For my tastes, anyway.

I was just about to give up on the idea of playing a Thief at all, and then I had a flash of insight. The weirdness of the Sylvari seemed to be oddly fitting for the weirdness of the Thief profession – so I mucked about with the character creator, and after a few false starts (just couldn’t get the glow intensity right for the longest time), I’m very happy with the results.

I choose sylvari cuz i’m an nature lover i love trees and plants, i wanted to be an biologist,
i love being connect to nature and seing that sylvari are like that i love them right away, i love so much the grove is so beautifull and magic, caldeon forest is my fav map ever i wish that they could make more maps like that cuz they are only the grove and the forest and thats it.

I love how they are so cultured and wise, even so they are an young race, they love exploration and adventure and i love that too, since little i wanted to be in national geografic, travel around the world and see everything i love the travel channel (who can blame me that channel is awesome).

I’m always the race more connected to nature, normally in game is elves, so of course i choose sylvari, i love how they love anyone besides the gender, that is true love, the love story between the two sylvaris in personal story was so beautiful and tragic T-T

I don’t even knew about the Bioluminescence, when i first make an sylvari and see the others glow i was ‘’wth!!!! why they glowing and i don’t!!??, i want to gloo too!!!’’ thank god that i was in beta and discover how to make them glow, so then i make my char with this idea of being moon/sun so i creat her with blue skin (like frost) with white eyes like moon and then i was between blond hair or black hair, but black hair i see so many silvary with them so i make mine with blond hair, and them she have yellow glow at night, like she is the sun at night.

I just wish more hair styles and faces to sylvari, and i don’t like the voice of my sylvari i think is too grow up, i wanted with more soft and child voice, but not child annoying voice.

I wanted that my boyfriend was an sylvari like me, but he doesn’t like them, so he is an human we wanted that i was an human too, but i say ‘no no way’ he knows that i’m always the elve class, the nature class, of course i will not be an human, i have an human guard that i make but she is lv 20 i don’t even play with her anymore, i will make an sylvari guardian, i’m an sylvari elementalist lv 80

Liked plant person theme as playable race and seemed fit my personality the most. Wish I payed more attention with glow color during creation….I’m dark green glowing pink…yea

I could say the art, the theme, the starting areas and city, the glow, and it would all be true.

But really its because they are the only race that can weirdout a golem by asking it questions! Love the sylvari npc conversations.

Even though my main I started with is human I recently made a Sylvari and I love them. I like their lore, their story is more interesting than human. The character creation was very frustrating for me because of all the color combinations, it gave me a headache and I couldn’t decide so I made like a horde of Sylvaris ( I’m a horrible person I know) before I found the right one. Every Sylvari should get a makeover kit for free wen they hit level 80. I wish we could start in a plant armor and that they added more sets. Anyway still love the race and as mentioned their personality is awesome.

I don’t like to play humans characters in MMO’s (I’m human everyday XD), so I excluded Humans and Norns. Asuras are too small, Charrs are too humpy and doesn’t fit well with elementarist imo.
Sylvari was the only good choise, but only becouse I could make them very different than an elf… i can’t stand elfs!!

When I did the task that requires you to become one of the nightmare court. I new then I would have to make one.

The reason I made my first char a Sylvari was because their lore/culture was awesome. I eventually moved on to a human char and now an Asura, but I still love the Sylvari because of how awesome in general they are. I mean, outside of the Nightmare Court, they’re all super nice and enthusiastic about life, etc. They’re all basically children so they’ve got a nice happy-go-lucky/naive/honest attitude that’s very appealing.

I’m a biologist and I love plants, so my first character was a Sylvari Mesmer, but I deleted her at level 9 because I got bored of the class. My third character, an Asuran Elementalist ended up as my main and while the Asura is my favourite race, I recently created a new Sylvari character and this race is really growing on me aswell. They have by far the best customisation options and I love their colors and cultural armor choices. Sylvari and Charr are both my second favourite races.

I chose the sylvari as my first character, being a complete n00b. I watched my husband as he played the beta (as a human) and thought I want to play that. I picked sylvari on the basis that it looked cool. And I am so glad I did. I love the look, i love the beauty of the grove and caledon forest. I kind of became addicted to the game. Lol.

My sylvari ranger is my first made and first leveled character. I love the story of how they came into existance. I also have a sylvari mesmer. I like their culture, home region, voices, and looks. The personal story they have is interesting also.

They caught my eye at the very beginning! It was like a cross between an elf and Avatar! The glow effects are pretty cool too!

I hadn’t played Guild Wars. Not even sure I had heard of it. But my brother was looking for a new MMO to play and he thought I might like this game as well. So we read reviews, etc. But one of the biggest things for me in any game is character customization/creation.

So I started watching videos on that, and saw Sylvari. I’ve always been drawn to nature/elfish type things. So when I got the game, the very first character I started to make was a Sylvari. But, the lack of hair styles kinda put me off. So my first character I made and got to level 21 was a norn ranger.

Finally, after many deletes and creating and profession/race experimenting, and 2 level 80’s later, my main is now a level 80 sylvari mesmer. And now even though all my sylvari look the same other than in color, I can’t not make a sylvari.

Plus, the grove is just too beautiful. Spent so much time there even as other races.

Well for me, I wanted to play one of every race to begin with. What made me want to play Sylvari more than that, was the pun name I came up with for my Sylvari Engineer: Twigger Finger. xD

True story. I was in an AC pug (pick-up group, random people) on my first toon, a human necro. Then I heard the male sylvari voice for the first time and I thought it was the sexiest voice I’d ever heard in-game besides Logan. Later on I whispered that sylvari player and as we got to know each other, I learned he was a guy (I’m a girl). And I said his toon is sexy and, trying to make a pass at him I said, “I wonder if you’re as sexy as your toon.” He replied, “Yeah, I tried to make him as sexy as possible. I’m gay.” XD After that I made my second toon,, a male sylvari guardian, and it’s now my main.

I think for me it was the combination of the lore and their gorgeous aesthetics. I was ecstatic when I saw the redesigned Sylvari – I was not too sold on the initial designs, but would nevertheless probably have rolled one. I have not had such fun in character creating before or since I created my current main. :)

Who am I kidding, it was pretty much all about aesthetics. I like pretty things. <3
