Content requiring 3rd party software
I don’t know. It seems to me that this isn’t all that different than open world raids in other games. The only difference is that those who have joined the raid can’t see all of the groups. (needed those bars to see who needs what buffs and heals)
What we have here though are commanders. You can join on a commander to form a squad. In this squad is squad chat. Specific commands can be given to divided groups.
Edit: Squad also allows wp’s/map pings and drawing on the mini map. Oddly something most games don’t do. Would like to see this in future games.
3rd party VOIP’s eliminate that step. Always has to some degree. I have been in raids where all of the healers have been in their own channel. All players on one target in another. Tanks in a certain channel.
I don’t think this fight directly needs chat. Still early with players not really choosing a job (manning turrets, defending batteries or dpsing Teq), or someone taking lead to give the crowds some direction.
When more get to know the fight…you kind of have to come prepared to do frontline or backline. Can’t just sit there auto attacking in one spot anymore.
I want to say that rewards work a little different from other games and that rewards aren’t that great, but then I think about World bosses from other games. Loot is passed out and half the raid gets nothing. At least in GW2, you get something for you 15mins. (I know more time goes into preparation, so 40mins).

1/ I don’t think the content is impossible without voice chat. In a few weeks everyone will know the proper strategy which basically boils down to Hylek Gun skill #2.
2/ I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using voice chat, especially not for difficult content.
Back at launch, doing dungeons without voice chat was suicide. Nowadays I can do most dungeons with eyes closed. That’s the community learning.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
There’s still communication that’s dependant on timing, which will not be helped by knowing your role. You can’t let people know you need a cleanse or find out which areas are getting overwhelmed without voice chat.
I said I also didn’t think there was anything wrong with voice chat. I said the difficulty shouldn’t be decided assuming the server is using a voice chat.
And other games have nothing to do with guild wars 2. Comparing Peg A to Peg B doesn’t change that Peg A doesn’t fit into Slot A.
