Fantastic idea, but you overdone it.
I liked it, but I can’t see myself or anyone else continuing to do it if you always fail with no reward.

Of coarse.
What’s the point of playing if there are no drugs…. uh rewards. Isn’t that why we’re all here? We’re here to get some drugs… uh rewards.
IMO anet already has a patch, they just wanted to test this ‘harder’ version first. If I’m incorrect, the event is dead to the game now, I think all except the anet minions ( The ones who defend anything that anet do ) will agree it needs a tweak.

Let’s be honest…if I only play for an hour every day, or even a few hours, why would I do a 15-minute event (+ waiting time) when I could just run CoF p1 and get 1.5g? Then maybe SE or CoF p2 for another 1.5g? If players are going to invest time into something, they at least want to get credit for it. 50c for failing isn’t worth 15 minutes.
Don’t get me wrong, it was fun, and when (if) we finally beat him, it will feel great, which is what Anet wants, but it just won’t be worth doing if the event fails 95%+ of the time.
This was my concern. While I like the theory I think they should have aimed somewhere in the middle first and then picked another event to step it up.
The beautiful thing about over tuning it right from the start is that they can adjust it downwards and everyone will be THANKFUL for it.
It would be impossible for them to make him to easy from the start and then have to buff (nerf) him later. People would kitten far more if they took this rout than the other.
Tried it and honestly think its way too difficult as the overflow I was in got him down 5% in 15 min. Will NOT be going back to this event for at LEAST a few weeks unless something is done. More turrets or something could help.

How is this hardcore? Because of the difficulty? Are you saying all casual gamers are easy mode?
The only reason you all failed was because you had no clue what to do.
Its pathetic when anything other than just pressing #1 is considered hardcore!

Casual gamers would rather make money then challenge themselves IMO. I myself like a challenge, but having that many people relying on each others basically invites trolls and people who honestly have no idea. I watched the livestream and was trying to explain while attacking. Still no difference in tactics.
I just did it and we failed and it was a ton of fun. However I know how the community goes and if there aren’t any rewards then it won’t be done. If the success rewards aren’t very good then it’ll be the new karka queen

All in all, it needs a tweak, its not a hardcore gamer event and should not be treated as such.
Actually, I think that the World Bosses should be adressed as Hardcore Content, since those are the most “bad kitten ” encounters in the game, and I think that the rewards should be worthwhile as well.
- I’m not really a hardcore gamer myself, so no flaming me, but I think that having the world bosses being encounters that require players to work together with the use of vehicles, combo fields and what-have-you is the way to go.
- I don’t think they should be keyboard-smashingly hard, but they should challenge the players and everything they’ve learned throughout the game.
Bosses used to be about challenging players’ skill level and awareness on the battlefield, and the harder they got, the more rewarding they were, thus doing them felt even more awesome.
- If a game doesn’t evolve the players skill level throughout the game, it has failed. If there’s no harder content with better rewards, the game has failed or it just feels rather stale (mostly this goes for MMO’s).
If the encounter is too hard with little reward, then players won’t do it. It feels like a waste of time in the long run.
- Doing a world boss for the first time, I didn’t really care about rewards. I enjoyed that they felt so intimidating and huge in comparison… but it does feel rather anti-climactic when you find that it doesn’t contain as much power as it appeared to have.
I’m excited to see what the game will look like after some major tweaks to it.

I’m more concerned about its long term effect, I love a challenge ( when in a team of 5 people I know and trust ) but on this scale it only takes a few people on turrets to either troll or have no idea to kill a whole zerg. Melee ( DPS ) is useless without the support of these people, I also cannot see this being completed on a regular day during my time zone ( Australia ) which makes it a event I could only participate in during my days off. People can defend anet all they want, but it will need to be addressed either way.
I love the concept, but I see three options.
1 Remove the time limit
2 Nerf
3 Rewards when you fail, even if they are lesser % of rarer drops.
Guys, this is day one. You aren’t going to be taken seriously if you call for nerfs on day one. What you should be doing is looking for strategies and bugs.
How is this hardcore? Because of the difficulty? Are you saying all casual gamers are easy mode?
The only reason you all failed was because you had no clue what to do.
Consider, that in future you will have a zerg when as much as half of the players know what to do, you will be able to consider yourself lucky. I stil see tons of people that don’t know what to do with Claw. And his mechanic was here for a year already.
The event i was in was full of people that knew what to do. And full of people that either had no clue, or had too much lag to activate skill but still unwilling to give the turret to someone else.

Oh look its the same thread that always gets put up on day one of any new content…. yawn.
Everytime they change something or add something new or harder people say its impossible for the first week, hard the second week and by a month in its on farm status and people cry for more.
How do the OPs of these posts not see the pattern? Go back and read ANY of the living story update forums of the past and laugh.
OMG hard content! How dare they put in content that challenges my skill level!
@Astralporing; No kidding, ive seen dozens of people at a time charge up to jormag in phase 2 and then bleat on “rezzz me!!!11!?!” while standing 2 inches under him. Its like they dont even bother to look at the debuffs they have or just simply ignore the bottom of the screen entirely.
People need to learn the mechanics and stop trying to zerg everything in sight. The devs have already said explicitly that this content would be hard and require teamwork. Expecting to roll over Teq in the first encounter is foolhardy at best.

This is the last i’ll say to people who defend, I LOVE A CHALLENGE, but the community prefers profit over challenge, meaning this event and others like it will go as dead as the queen karka.
I have been waiting for high risk/high reward content in GW2 since beta and I can tell you that this is different than what I imagined.
It will be near to impossible to get 100 people to do the tasks required to defeat him.
It is a organizational mess even for guilds to complete.
I want hard content that is challenging but this is the wrong way to do it imo.
Requiring teamwork in a 5 man dungeon is one thing but requiring it with 100s of people zerging around not knowing what to do or where to go is another.
Even when the mechanics are more accustomed to the end user, the event will have to be coordinated to the point where it is almost impossible.

Servers have successfully completed him already. But due to the complaints I’ll put my money down on the devs nerfing it down. It’s brand new, what do you expect? In due time a successful method will emerge on how to beat him. Play it, learn it, defeat it. If you want to press 1 while watching adult videos on your other monitor, there are other games out there that cater to that type of game play.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
Well, get ready if you don’t like it, because this is an indication of things to come for other world bosses. They’re not going to just update one to be super difficult and leave the others alone. They’ll all be this hard eventually. As they should be.
Then what are you going to do?
What servers have done it exactly because even T1’s are having problems and I can still guest :P

I really hope they don’t nerf the other world bosses because of whining. Timers? New boss skills that take away MY right to stand in one spot to kill it? MADNESS!
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
I was the first to realize this would be a problem.

I remember they added a final boss to Doa (nightfall, gw1), it took bout 3 weeks before people found a way to crack him down. Just give it some time, I’m pretty sure people will find a good way to get him done in a few days
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
They should just leave him the way he is. I won’t do him, but that content’s not for me. Let the die hards deal with him. They have nothing else to do and who cares? There’s plenty else to do for people who find him too tough/tedious/etc.

First, GW1 had no real open world content. Second, the boss was in the part of the content that 90% of the population never even attempted.
I am pretty sure that in a instance with control over who goes in a good organized guild would be able to kill Teq. I doubt it will be possible in open world though.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I prefer they make it super difficult and gradually scale it back (if absolutely necessary) than have them be conservative and have another boring afk/auto-attack style fight.
The devs already said in one of their posts that they’ll adjust the boss fights (timers, difficulty, etc) as they see how players are able to adapt to the fights.
Just nerf down the health. The rest is all fine.
The way he is made is good for a dungeon with 5 people and tactics, not an event with 100 people. With a guild and good scaling this could be awesome, this is just lame and frustrating.
Also stop the rediculess inavoidable one hit kills arenanet, that’s just low.
The way he is now, you scare everyone away from him for ever. Worst thing added to the game so far.
A 100+ man zerg just went head to head with him…
Well there’s your problem right there.
Ah nvm why bother asking for nerf, they do whatever they want and don’t listen to anyone anyway.

Its pathetic when anything other than just pressing #1 is considered hardcore!
And how would this improve? You’re still at the mercy of randoms, hoping they learned the fight aswell as knowing what to do with the Turret they just hogged.
Thats the biggest flaw, the fight takes a certainl degree of skill and understanding from a fairly large portion of the players. And i dont put my faith in just 1 random pug when i do a dungeon, let alone in 40 when doing Tequatl.
What is this? I don’t even… Srsly? THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. The entire point of it’s existence is to be PLAYED. It’s not about getting a freaking chest full of digital baubles that don’t mean anything. I mean, come on. The rewards are not kittenING real! Play the kitten game! If you don’t like the game, then don’t play it! it’s as simple as that. If you don’t like broken fingers, then don’t hit yourself in the hand with a hammer. But definitely don’t hit yourself in the hand with a hammer and then cry about how the hammer should be softer, its a hammer. [/rant]
It’s HARD! the ascended weapon skins from teq will act as a status symbol, which i love assemble a few commanders, each taking positions and downing the boss.. and yes adapt to the fight.. we can do it, just takes time to learn.
Willing to bet money the scaling is off due to lack of testing.
This event is going to be dead within 3 days, on a T1 server twice now have only gotten it down 5% health,
We know the dymanics you defend the turrets etc, but then the champs show up, along with mass poison etc, sorry its a waste of 15mins,
I understand the side of team work, but trying to co-ordinate 80-100 people who want to play the “game” the way they want is impossible in an open world PvE map, and god forbid your melee damage classes die underneath him, you have no chance in hell of ressing them, so they lie there as the nearest waypoint is over a minute away, so they decide to sit and afk.
If this had been an 80-100man instanced event, for a guild/friends then it may have worked, but as it stands, it wont, and people will lose interest, the guys I run with have already given up on it, and went back to dungeons etc,
Great update, possibly great event, worth the time, no sorry.
on the upside, WvW update is great.

Or just test your content instead of trying to force something out every 2 weeks.
This really does look like the next karka queen event.
I’ll try and get it done in the next day or so, because after that I don’t see a lot of people bothering with it again.
This is how more things need to be though.
There shouldn’t be 0 loot on fail, succeeding just needs to be WAY more, enough for it to be worth the trouble, otherwise it’s pointless
Anet is TERRIBLE when it comes to risk/reward though, so I’m not sure how this will turn out.
Also, I love hard content like this, but it’s yet again messy zerg content, good luck trying to organize 100+ randoms, plus the lag makes the mechanics kinda dumb in some cases. Should really just give us stuff like this meant for ~30 people.
After few tries I think its to much…
Now I don’t think dragon HP or the armor buff, or the number of cannons are wrong, its adds that take forever to kill and there is just to much stuff you need to kill around the dragon that takes away to much DPS.
All you defending AN, I understand your point of view and believe me I would like for it to stay really hard and rewarded properly, but next time you give it a go just take time to notice how much of DPS is “wasted” to ressing/killing fingers, mobs and how long it takes to kill each of those.
So the only thing IMO that needs nerf in that fight is adds…
Just gave him a go. All I saw was 2 player downed signs for every player still standing. I got moved to overflow, so not sure if we had as much firepower as needed. I didn’t know what to do until ppl starting calling fingers, cannon 2 etc etc..defend turrets, etc etc..he went down to 90ish% and fail. That was my first impression..i noticed people getting rage over skill lag as well, even though I didn’t suffer it personally.
I’m not going to say they’ve overdone it yet, though it’s quite easy to lean that way when a group only gets 5% health off
I think there is perhaps too much emphasis on the turrets, with needed to keep his buff down so he doesn’t spawn a wall and purging the poison. If you get a few clueless people on them or outright trolls, these few people can really cause havoc with the event.
And the lag doesn’t help. :P
This is how more things need to be though.

I believe it should, it’s common that if you fail in a match on whatever sports you are doing you don’t even gain a single point, since you failed. Otherwise it would be Scarlet Invasion all over again, people posting that they can’t get XYZ achievements because failing gives enough rewards for your time.
Only thing that would work is if we either get something as only 1 green strongbox, or maybe enough silver for repairs. Dunno but I hope that no rewards for failing means that people will care more for succeeding.
