I’ve always been quite interested in the Krait. Every other race apart from the Dragons have some sort of reason to kill, destroy or war on someone else, may I be vengeance, power, domination or land.

The Krait seems to just kill just because they want to, you never even get a slight impression why they do the things they do.

The Scarlet content though on the surface seems ilke a random funny insane bad guy, have you read the lore story? Scarlet has a HUGE tie in to the main core lore with Elder Dragons, perhaps the forest dragon, Nightmare Court, the Dream, Pale Tree, etc and even perhaps the Thaumanova Reactor meltdown and WP’s belief of the asura story with portals to a different dimension and people like the aetherblades and steam monsters crossing portals from different time/space… thats HUGE. but obviously it wasn’t enough in game to address that. But the scarlet update I would say is a huge and important development, not one of the silly ones.

I’m excited for the krait, not because of the krait, but because they are working with the nightmare court… which ties into everythign we’ve been having Scarlet, Twilight Assault etc we might be moving towards the whole awakening of the forest dragon stuff

You are wrong, krait are capturing and sacrificing other races due to their religion, also they were pushed back by Deep Sea Dragon and need some territory. Apart from that, they are xenophobic race just like the Dredge.

the krait kill for a few reasons
1) sacrifice to assist their prophets that have ascended
2) food
3) natural enemies (ex. hylek)
4) defending their religion from those who would defame it

speculation:
also their sacrifices may have become more often in an attempt to get their prophets to return quicker, as they have been pushed out of their old land (area of the sea they controlled) by the minions of the DSD. They believe their prophets will return with great armies and conquer the surface/drown the surface, which they may feel they are in dire need of as they are losing ground against the DSD.

I’d like to believe that they won’t ruin dark-theme, but…
There’s one reason why I’m pretty sure that it will have something in common, another time, sadly, with Scarlet. Look at the trailer from 0:19. It’s not very clear, but if you take a closer look, at least the focus the krait standing in the foreground holds in left hand seems like version of Corrupted Focus from Twilight Arbor update.
Second reason is the Tower itself – 0:26 you can see blue-corrupted branches coming out from Tower and then, you can see one more thing – 0:44 – look at the top of the Tower – it clearly looks like flower.
Just look at the title of patch – Tower of NIGHTMARE.

It’s a shame that we can’t just foget about her already and make Patch just about Kraits. As you know, they build their Towers off from single block of rare material and usually in the depths.
So no, Kraits won’t get their lore-wise update, nothing about thier interesting history and culture, nothing about the Prophets, they’ll act merely as servants to our mad lady. It’s possible there will be even more magitech and aetherblades inside, be prepared!

The Dredge aren’t that xenophobic. Look at the Dredge Rebels, they gladly take help from outsiders. The only xenophobic Dredge are the ones from the Moletariat and their leaders are using this to control the Dredge and even they ally themself with the Inquest or the Flame Legion.

But the Krait? Xenophobic to the extreme. They would gut anyone trying to approach them. Their allies must be tied to their religion. Perhaps they are the Krait Prophets

Kraits are tied to the popular theme of Mayans, who love human sacrifices.

Capturing prisoners after a successful battle also provided victims for sacrifice, presumably to propitiate whatever deity had promised victory in the first place, although there is no record of the Maya initiating conflicts solely for this purpose as was apparently the case with the Aztecs. The Bazaar of the Four Winds was great and has some lore from GW1. The Zephyrites are Elonians and Canthan descent iirc. The Zephyrites grabbed Glint’s magic before it goes in the wrong hands. They created the Zephyr Sanctum and flied it with the aspects. Theres an NPC’s talking about the dragons that are not all evil like Glint at the very back of the airship.

I dunno. With its disjointed B-movie nonsense about darkness, fear, and terror, I felt that trailer was dripping with the same Saturday-morning cheese I’ve come to expect from the Living Story content, and the rest of the game in general on retrospect. Then again, I may have a different idea of what constitutes a “dark” and “serious” tone. (Usually synonymous with “trite” and “pretentious” in my experience.) If it’s grim, dark seriousness you’re after, you might have come to the wrong game. So I wouldn’t get my hopes up, if I were you.

Unless the release page reads “In this update you can kill Scarlet for good, such that she can NEVER EVER RETURN, not even as a ghost, oh, and everything about this storyline concludes and is FULLY EXPLAINED with non-bs reasoning” I shall not get excited.

I used to defend ArenaNet a lot to skeptical friends, but for the last few months I’ve been unable to, when the quality of the storyline is involved. This upsets me.

TLDR: Don’t hype yourself up about this release. You wont learn anything.

I feel like I’m in some sort of superhero comic while Scarlet is Lex Luthor, hiring all sorts of bad guys to take care of her business. This is the main reason why I don’t get involved much with the game’s story so far. Also I hate my character and his wimpy moral choices .

Isn’t it fun being grown up and mature?!

I don’t understand why things have to be mature themed to be good. Seems as if the gamer generation grew up or something. These days its all about cold blooded killing in games. I weep for kids today that are exposed to negative attitude gaming. It isn’t Mario, Donkey Kong, Starfox anymore.

As long as Scarlet is there you can’t have “serious” content updates. I do wonder, though, if GW2 writing team is saddened because everyone hates pushing Scarlet or did they anticipate it and simply enjoy trolling us. As in, did they actually hope we’d find her interesting?

Too bad this next LS update will no doubt be “Oh look, Scarlet was behind it afterall.. womp wommp wommmmmmp wommmmm-m-m-m-m—m-np”

Subjective opinion there OP. I personally withhold my judgement till I can play the living story for myself. Every patch there’s a bunch of people who act optimistic about it, but come back and whine when they don’t like it while being belittled for it by the pessimists cheering on how they were right. A minute long video and some vague information doesn’t entice me all that much anymore. I’m more concerned at the moment with exploring the tower and getting some screenshots of it. It does look rather ominous.

It’s also nice to see that in some way Kasmeer and Marjory are coming back into play again since sun bathing in southsun and doing detective work during the events at Dragon Bash.

I’m sorry but you want serious content from the people who brought you Legendary weapons such as clown confetti shooting gun, a disco ball on a stick, unicorn shooting unicorn bow, a c… a chicken harp, and so many more!

I don’t mind comic relief or silly content in my RPG, but only as long as it’s about 25% of the game’s content or less, not 75% or more.

On my own side yet related note; as far as Legendaries go, it’s absurd that they would make the most elite weapons to be party props. I don’t think a single one Legendary weapon should have been the gag some currently are.

Wanna have silly weapons? Go ahead but don’t make them into Legendaries.

As far as this next update goes, what good is the seriousness of it when it’s the update with the least content in a downward spiral since Tequatl.

Unless they dramatically change their Living Story design ideas with this very next update, I really can’t say I expect much anymore – and as consequence caring less and less.

As far as everyone bashing on Scarlett goes, she’s not to blame for this. Bad story telling is one thing, but no amount of good story telling can save this mess of an achievement mindless grind the the new events have become.

Scarlett herself isn’t even all that bad a villain, she acts maniacal and insane but if you read the story on her (which committed the crime of being posted in a website instead of in the game) she has a reason for being so. There’s a mysterious past to her with something she experienced no one knows about which gave her a reason to be the way she is.

What makes the players feel this horrible pain with the game they invested their time and money (and faith) in isn’t Scarlett herself, but that it’s become so boring and the story so repetitive.

Scarlett is somewhat cliche but isn’t terrible.

Now if they decide they’re just gotta staple Scarlett into every mess they come up with, then she’ll become nothing more than an annoying pain on everyone’s sides that every players just despises having to deal with again (the aetherblades are becoming GW2’s Team Rocket).

Instead of doing this they need to make sure they create Scarlett’s own story and true motive behind her actions, propelling her main plot instead of shoving her into all kinds of filler content.

She is terrible. The Joker, Kefka and Mad King were all successfully comical yet evil characters.

I really liked it, actually. Over 4 months it was a bit long winded, but they seemed to recognise this. What we didn’t know, however, is that F&F was just the beginning of having very little lore properly explained. I’m still waiting for answers on aspects of it even now.

I liked Flame and Frost for what it was, before the advent of random sky pirates and Saturday morning villains. The plot was cool, and I cared about helping Rox and Bronn along their quests.

I’m really hoping this next update brings in some seriously Lovecraftian stuff.

I am confused why the vigil got involved in that update though as they are dedicated to fighting dragons but they seemed to be the major force in destroying the Molten alliance laboratories.

The Vigil is also the main force involved in charitable/humanitarian (well, not solely human in this setting) works. Their primary goal is fighting dragons, but they’re also highly idealistic in general and will reach out to help where they’re needed.

I think that may be speculation on the part of GW2Hub, or a misunderstanding. I work for Massively, and the press release sent out encompassed exactly what’s on the official release site. Unless it’s an event where press (typically all press) are given a sneak preview, we basically get an advance draft of what’s publicly announced so that we can prepare news posts. The post on GW2Hub is almost word-for-word the same as the press release we received—along with the same screenshots—with the exception of some wording changes. It looks as though the writer maybe read between the lines that the Nightmare Court was involved and assumed that it was meant to be obvious, and so thought that the “mysterious benefactor” must be someone else.

I wouldn’t say anything about it except that these things tend to get legs and people may still be wondering in a few months who was being referred to if it turns out that Scarlet or the Nightmare Court aren’t even involved.

Can’t help but notice “Tequatl Rising” was left out of the above list. That was some pretty serious content with no Scarlet relation. There just, well, wasn’t much story.

Stay tuned for next month, when a mysterious individual poisons the Krytan water supply with a laughing poison, and develops an army of evil flying Dolyaks, for no reason what so ever. Who could it be? Who could it possibly be?

The content they’ve been adding has been great, but all the cheese they pack into it is getting absolutely ridiculous… For once I’d like to feel like I’m actually in an RPG and not a cartoon. Here’s hoping that they keep the mood dark through this one.

Don’t be a dreamer like I’ve been in past 13 months. This will be just another content-less, childish, kitten cartoon torture update.

I consider every update with a degree of skepticism.

Molten alliance I was partially interested in but since then the story has gotten more and more away from foreboding dragons and more into trivial content that we’re told will become more serious.

Play style were starting to get some more interesting content again however. Queens gauntlet challenged me previously (but I didn’t get the story at all), since then we’ve slowly been moving away from the ‘press F’ wars, which is great.

So all that combined with having just watched the vid has made me excited about what’s to come with possible challenging game play and a story that seemingly may be interesting to follow.

I think the fact that they altered Kessex Peak zone 2 weeks before telling us WHY is an encouraging sign.
