Recoloured versions of awful skins
The only thing i see of value is that they are adding a permanent path to to an existing dungeon. At least i heard it was permanent.
Unfortunately there’s a word being thrown around in there i don’t like and that word is Aether, which to me has the synonyms of boring and predictable.
We’ve all lived through the aether gameplay, and honestly, it ruins the immersion, suddenly going from medieval fantasy to steampunk, with no recollection as to why/how it was created, it just appeared. We’ve been over the aether thing for the past 6 months? I think its time to move on, and I think a lot of us could of done without continuing the scarlet sue storyline.
Yeah it’s great they added a permanent path in a dungeon, but there’s no intrinsic/extrinisc reward for doing it, most people will pop in the first couple days and do the achievements, but after? Who really even did the previous scarlet dungeon multiple times?

Yeah, and who did the Molten Facility more than once?
Oh right, everyone!
Why not wait and see? The new dungeon path could just as well be super amazing fun… ?

Do you mean extrinsic rewards? Intrinsic rewards would be running the dungeon because it’s fun, and it is entirely subjective.

Question is do you know what the end reward is? Currently this is all speculation since I’m sure nobody here has access to the new TA path. So why not wait before complaining based on little to no information about the rewards for the new path.

Yep. This is why we can’t color our weapons, folks. So they can pull crap like this and the different colors on the Ascended weapons.
Personally, I kind of like some of the Nightmare weapon skins. But bright blue glow? That’s…missing the point entirely. You don’t make them more frightening by adding a built-in nightlight!

What other conspiracy theories will we come up with? That they are going to make weapon dyes sellable on the gem store?

Please, masta, explain how anet can make real $ on an item that can only be acquired by running the dungeon.

Certainly, if we can dye weapons like we should be able to then people wouldn’t be chasing that carrot for a different colored skin. They’d have to come up with something else for us to do. This is update is just a small start. Ideally in any free to play MMO the objective of the owners of the game is to keep you playing for as long as possible by chasing many aforementioned carrots because they know the longer people play the more likely they are going to crack open that wallet for something else if not for some skin color variant. So maybe you can’t buy these weapons with gems that’s not the point the point is they want to keep you playing so you’ll keep coming back and checking out that gem store.
Furthermore as with the unique colors found in crafted ascended weapons let’s say you like zerker stats but think that white sword with healing stats looks pretty sweet, the only way to get what you want is with a white transmute stone. You might get lucky and get one from a BL chest if you find a key but how often does that happen?
If we could dye weapons we wouldn’t need gems.

Is that so? That’s the only reason why they haven’t released dyeable weapons?
Well why should we stop there with our reasoning!
Why don’t we point out that there are 80 levels in the game. I guess that means Anet wants to keep us leveling for such a long time that they want us to stay playing around. Why not 40? Or 20 like in GW1? Oh it’s because Anet wants us to play forever..Shame on them.
Or how about the fact we have 5 races and 8 professions? I guess Anet wants us to learn and play all of them so that we can keep playing forever and ever. Why not just have 1 class Anet? and 1 race? Oh it’s because they want us to play forever. Shame on them.
Or how about introducing all these tiers of gear? Basic, fine, masterwork, all the way to legendary! Why don’t they just give everyone basic gear! After all it’s easy and cheap to acquire! Oh I know why..it’s because they want us to keep leveling and improving gear to make us stay around longer. Shame on Anet, they are bad and they should feel bad?!
Please.

You asked for an explanation I gave you one, not my problem if you don’t like what you’re reading because you think your opinion is better. You asked me for my logic behind it and I gave a sound argument good for you that you can come up with other reasons and try to derail the topic at hand.
Character levels are just numbers it doesn’t matter if you cap at 20, 80 or 100. Being level 80 in this game is the standard they decided to stick with. Anyone who plays an MMO knows that the max level is where most of the content is completed. Time spent reaching max level varies from game to game and most RPGs have a concept of leveling up.
5 races and 8 professions is variety, if you don’t understand that concept in an RPG I can’t help you. Not everything they are doing is out to make money they have to build a game first. But i find it interesting how a new GW2 account only gives you 5 character slots meaning if you wanted to try all 8 professions guess what you gotta spend money or delete a character either way you’re spending time/money. Time wasted on a deleted character or money on a new slot.
The only gear that matters is level exotic/ascended 80 because that’s the level you cap at, everything else is stepping stones, again this is more variety and just basic loot drops you can sell for in game money. I fail to see what this has to do with the argument this is basic RPG gears only slightly expanded with weapon quality.
I probably was too sarcastic for you to understand.
Your claim, from my understanding, is that the only reason why they don’t have weapon dyes is to keep people playing the game in order to chase that desired colored weapon. After all, if you could easily dye a weapon, that won’t keep you around long, right?
You may have logic in that but it’s a lame argument, not a sound one. It also doesn’t help that you’re taking a seemingly innocent topic regarding dyeable weapons and turn it into some massive conspiracy theory that Anet is holding back on such a feature in order to milk customers.
And my examples shown above just show how absurd and simple-minded your conspiracy theory is. Why do we stop at weapon dyes? Why not make some conspiracy theory up for weapons, class/professions and gear tiers?
Heck, how about I make up this conspiracy theory – the only reason why we are getting WvW leagues is so Anet can make a ton of money on server transfers! Heck I can come up with more.

This thread isn’t about dyeable weapons…it’s about the new dungeon rewards…
For some people, the blue glowy Nightmare weps will be the best thing ever. I don’t think we have the necessary information to determine if the rewards are worthwhile yet. Frankly, I’d be very surprised if there isn’t other rare loot in the end chest as well.
Exotic Nightmare Weapons
Foes in the Twilight Arbor explorable mode have a rare chance to drop a new version of the Nightmare weapons. These weapons have a unique name and give off a blue aetherized glow.
Considering the fact that almost no one was using these in the first place, contending they were purple of course, the overall design of them were aesthetically unappealing. In their mind, instead of re-introducing more reward carrot options, you essentially work towards something that pre-exists, in the notion that it is now blue.
And the more find x to complete y option (aether keys), I think this game is taking in the wrong notion of game design. There’s no current compelling intrinsic/extrinsic value coming out of this patch. Some people may like it, or for those that pre-own these weapons can get an upgraded visual effects, but for others, it’s a let-down.
I use them.

Me and sarcasm go way back so don’t bother. As you can see I’m shooting holes in your argument and staying on task so now you lean on the sarcasm crutch when trying to avert the dialogue at hand by throwing out examples that didn’t work.
You are taking my original statement and trying to inflate it out of proportion by calling it a conspiracy theory for what? You asked me for my reasoning behind that and I gave it to you now you’re calling it lame. It’s not like I would have said something to change your already made up mind but that’s not the point you asked and I answered just what did you expect a startling revelation?
I backed up what I said with logic which you agreed it was. But if you think that they are making a game just for fun and not for profit then that’s your choice, they have to pay the bills and since they aren’t charging you a monthly fee this the answer they came up with. I played GW1 for a while and I know you could dye weapons in that game like most other people, and we want a reasonable explanation as to why that is not an option in GW2 when it should be. Money is my answer to that question.
As far as this goes I’m done i have nothing else of value to say with regards to the weapon dye debate with you. Good day Sir.

In my case, I don’t think it’s some big scheme or anything, just laziness. Look at crafted leather jackets, for example. As you go up in levels, the looks for even the basic armor change. Now, look at crafted great swords. All that changes is a slight shift in color for the basic swords. By comparison, it seems kind of lazy. And in a game that was supposed to have a “cosmetic” end game, being unable to change the colors on the sword like you can the armor is odd. And lame. Yet right there is the start of not being able to change it, because if we could recolor the weapons, then there’s no difference at all in the looks of the basic great sword as you go up in levels.
Now look at the new weapons. Take the nightmare weapon model, change a color or two, and up the brightness. Bang, “new” content rewards to hide behind RNG. That’s rather pathetic, if you ask me. It’s also sad because it shows they never intend to add in weapon dyes, as doing so would make the new Nightmare/Ether weapons pointless (ditto with the different colors of ascended).
ANet should be doing better than this.

This x100000. I totally agree here.
The Nightmare sword is my favorite 1handed sword in the game, personally.
I have one on my Thief. Unfortunately sword is kinda useless in PvE. =/
I don’t need so many skins. I want less frequent introductions of new skins, but they should be good-looking rare skins.
More legendaries may be?
Yeh the skins are pretty terrible. I’ll probably only go in there to try to quickly get some and get them sold while the demand is high.

in before account bound
As the French say: Les goƻts et les couleurs ne se discutent pas.
This is appropriate on both.
I’m not a big fan of the new weapons either, but some people will and far be it from you or me to take away their new excitement.
At the moment I have one full row in bank filled with different skins from previous events (sadly mostly backpacks) and no idea what to do with them. All my alts also have some “unique” backpack skins too.
The only thing I need is one more skin…
Thief/Necro/Guardian/Mesmer/Elementalist of SFR EU
I’m really looking forward to the skins. I have a blue themed sylvari guardian that wears racial armour and currently uses AC weapons. Because he wears racial armour I often find non-sylvari themed weapons don’t work too well on him. When I saw the new skins I was personally very excited – they appear to have a glow/particle effects that are not on the standard version, so they are a little special, and they are coloured how I would personally want them (I also suspect blue will appeal to far more people than purple did). I can understand they aren’t for everyone (like I understood that the Jubilee weapons didn’t please me but probably pleased others) but I am very much looking forward to them and I will be playing TA a lot to obtain them. I hope they are account bound so that you have to play TA to get them, similair to fractal weapons. I also think it’s a step in the right direction by creating another reason to complete the dungeon. Having an alternate “tweaked” version of a dungeon weapon set is a nice way to make existing dungeons more rewarding without investing effort into an entire new weapon set. There might also be a lore tie-in (the website states it’s an ‘aetherised glow’ on the weapon, some kind of imbuement/enhancement to do with the dungeon to explain why it’s blue and glows now) which is kind of cool. If this patch is popular they might do a similair thing to other dungeons.
I’m also grateful the skins are obtainable in the game and not from RNG chests. I guess Cristin Cox prefers to get her hands on unique game assets and not recycled ones.
Weapon dying was never in the game at any stage.
Weapon dying was never in the game at any stage.
They were hoping for weapon dying system from GW1
I guess my only complaint it,
Instead of installing a new unique dungeon, it means in a way, we are more then likelybgoing to see a rework of the entire game but in micro increments, the last developer to try this is well, no longer live anymore.
Adding new content and more land to explore with more varying monsters to tackle is more in tune with what my wish list would hold.
