They’re definitely working as hard as they can to put all their effort on eSports while classes like Ranger, Engi, and Necro constantly take back seats to War/Guard/Mes. ….A lot of it feels more like they’re only working on excuses, but there’ a lot of skill changes getting cranked out along side that too. So they’re obviously doing a lot of work to foster this community to specifically expect the Worst from these subpar classes joining them in Pugs.

Huh. You have a good point there good sir. While I don’t have this problem (not exactly an altaholic but do I have them) it doesn’t stop me from sympathising with you guys. I’m very slowly starting to lose faith in GW2 PvE, which is very different from my stubborn fanboyism until quite recently.

also I don’t like the whole AP restriction thing, it reminds me of the whole gear score fascism that WoW provoked.

I hate myself for doing it, but I hate the alternative more.

Some users know the game well but are low on ap. I succeeded another TA path with 900/1500/1900/2500 AP holders. Wich imo is impressive enough. The 900 AP holder didnt do anything stupid. That being said it’s definitely a risk. And for content like Arah (and new TA path) it’s very risky.

With few small preparations at start you can make sure you have a decent group: put an AP restriction, ask ppl for their overall build orientation and gear, kick those who don’t fit the profile (make sure you got 1-2 soldiers who are sturdy enough, few condition removals and max 1 condition build..oh and NO “BEARBOWS” :P ).

Good pugs start with a good party leader (unfortunately sometime that means you have to be an @ssh@le, and set some rules that exclude certain players).

Hold up my pug did this dungeon with rifle warrior staff guardian a ele and two longbow ranger me being one of them and we only died once on slick and sparki. we died 3 times on the electric floor 1 party member died a hilarious death cause she didn’t see the stampede of flaming dogs and me the other ranger and guardian 3 maned the clockheart boss cause the war and ele got gear banged we did however die on the charr boss cause me and the other ranger died outside the pulse rapid firing like morons. Other then that all it comes down to is your party having comment sense you know that godkitten ed superpower we all have the ability to call upon.

what if the real issue is warrior dps and guardian support? rather than people kicking multiple rangers and necros?

Or necros need to start looking at utility skills and not just spam staff 1?

Mesmer players learned early to exploit everything because they can’t even level up if they just spam 1. Other classes have it easy and can auto attack their way to lv 80, necros and rangers are in this category. That is why they get the bad reputation.

on the last boss, besides the massive 5x aoe stomp that he does in the beginning and towards the duration of the battle. he’s pretty easy to kill. he gets stacks of armor or gear or whatever he gets stacks of. i really advise everyone to go range towards this battle. bring the holograms and bow it up close to him to get the stacks of armor the he gets from time to time.

- make everyone go range
- if you don’t go range then it’s a little harder because he tends to grab you and throw
you in the middle filled with electricity.
- going range makes it easier to avoid those cogs that he throws out and tickle your
feet until your player passes out

After doing this last night, i have to say going range is the worst possible method. Yes you can dodge the cogs but he throws them out a lot more if everyone is ranged making it harder to move around the room. Also the cogs get thrown out at 2-3 at a time and they are targeted directly at the player so you can sometimes burn both dodges on those and then you are left wide open for the aoe smash attacks. Here’s what we did..

Upon entering the room we went straight for the boss as he is vulnerable out the gate (or at least after we wiped multiple times ). Dps him but while you are dps’ing him constantly strafe in circles to get behind him, his single stomp is directional. There is a stomp that he does that will immobilize and sometimes its hard to tell which is which (directional stomp vs immobilize stomp). I just always positioned myself behind him and then dodged, kind of a double precaution. Ok so the second his armor stack starts, call it out and stop attacking. Have one party member, “the puller” go tag the nearest holo dude. The rest of the party needs to stay on the tree in melee range. If the tree has aggro on the puller just follow the tree as a group. We just literally ran circles around him. The key is to stay as close to him as possible so he won’t throw out cogs. Once the holo is right next to the tree, burn the holo to drop the armor. Then burn the heck out of the tree.

If the armor reaches 30 stacks, pop stability if possible, and save your dodges for the first impact. His massive multiple knockbacks he starts with one hand followed by the other hand. If done correctly a double dodge will prevent the knockback but you will still take some damage. Surviving that is the hardest part. After that go back and stack on him and dps him because right after the massive attack he is vulnerable again.

One thing to note, if you don’t get the armor down multiple times in a row the floor starts becoming electrified (when the holos blow up it stops the floor from becoming electrified). Once that starts happening the fight becomes extremely difficult. We noticed one fail on the armor is ok but after about two fails on the armor we were screwed.

Hope this helps some folks

This has to be the worst content I have ever played in a game possibly ever. The challenge is excessively stupid. There’s nothing you can do to make up for a team that doesn’t work together. If you get one bad player you will spend hours getting virtually no where no matter how much you walk them through it. Sure we could all start being elitists and kick everyone out of the games, or we could just quit the game entirely.

Hours and hours of wasted time. This was a terrible experience. Thanks Anet!!

Its a sad day when ppl complain about difficult content, which btw isnt even that difficult. this is what u call fun content. not going into AC and going around the corner and spamming ur skills to survive. ppl suck bc the have been conditioned to do easy content they dont want to try bc they feel like this isnt gw2 but it is! this is how the games dungeons were meant to be in the first place. ive joined a pug group which didnt wipe once in the new path and i had a group that failed hard. in every game ur going to have kitten players and good players. if kitten players want to do difficult content then they have to get better, same with every kitten game in the world. if ur playing call of duty, and ur bad at the game, do u expect to beat the story mode on hard? no bc u suck, either get better or dont play that content. its as simple as 1 2 3, if u like easy mode content there is a bunch in gw2 that u can do.

Another crappy dungeon, nice job Anet.

No progression (ie easy, medium, hard) tier points. Just kittens up first encounter unless you know the exact puzzle combination of the fight. If I want a puzzle, I’ll do the NY times tyvm.

Feels like another round of the nerd club….“see I know this and you don’t, enjoy spending X hours/days figuring it out.”

Some of us are casual players with real jobs (not spending time looking a youtube videos), so when we find a timesink dungeon, we move on, possiblely new game after 7mo.

At least in molten facility it was doable until the end with the kite 15min or until you fingers go numb platform. Still poor design.

I think it’s fantastic content. I did it in my first PUG without a problem.

same, I got a good group we discussed tactics, worked it out and completed it. We must of wiped 12 times during the dungeon but we stuck it out and no one raged.

I feel sorry if you get stuck with people not willing to try and want faceroll content.

its not easy content and you should expect people with reasonable gear to come along. A fresh 80 in rares just isn’t enough and they should at least try to gear up to help the party.

This dungeon has made me hate necros for various reasons besides the fact that they dont add much to dungeons and most dont know how to play their class.

I have spent 4 hours in one run 2 days ago because of ppls in ability to follow simple instructions and dodge. This content isnt hard its just gimmicky and a lot of the general playerbase seems to be unable to play their class or listen.

I put experienced only or know what your doing and I get people who are level 25 joining or people who have never made it past the ooze puzzle, READ THE DESCRIPTIONS. I will not carry another team through that god forsaken dungeon, yes im a little mad over it, PUGS from the lfg tool really suck.

A necro with spectral grasp pretty much makes the final boss a cakewalk. As does my guardian when I spam stability in combination with boon duration and pull holos with GS #5.

But yes, a lot of gimmicks in this dungeon and that can make it hard to find out what does what exactly.

Yep definitely…

Can’t think of much to elaborate on this point either. Does not inspire replayability, no other reason for it existing than a 1-time slog through a bunch of gimmicks that penalize all the more casual players/builds.

I ran this dungeon twice: once with my friends (four of us had never done it before) and we completed it without any major issues. There were a few wipes here and there and some tricky bits, but it was fun.

Then tried again with a PUG. (I think I played with 8 different people, as we had to replace ragequitters several times.) 4 hours later, didn’t finish. With most people we didn’t even get part the past the ooze door; the other group utterly failed at Slick and Sparki.

Completed the dungeon with guildies in voice chat, just 2 hours after the new content was up. We wiped on slick&sparkie for an hour.
The next day I tried PUG. including me, 2 of the group have completed the dungeon. then we completed the dungeon in 1.5 hr. wiped a few times in slick&sparkie, too.

Anet is making the new path challenging, but yet still doable with PUG. I think they are doing a good job on it. What goes wrong is, people went in the dungeon, knowing nothing of the bosses, yet hoping for an easy clear. Then the group wiped upside down, and someone ragequited. If you haven’t done this for a few times, you WILL wipe to learn it. And if you don’t consider trying new path is fun, go back to your AC farming and save the day of another PUG.

You think several wipes is considered no major issues?

I’ve seen lots of people rage quit AC just b/c Hodgins died a few times in a row.
I’ve seen people call arah runners unforgivable n00bs just b/c they aggro’d the champ outside Lupi’s room. Heck, I’d agree with the people who would blacklist a COF nub b/c he died even once to Alpha in COE.

…. my guild’s first attempt at this dungeon didn’t see a single death we got overconfident and tried to go straight for the Achievement on the Foreman by pulling him into a tiny little area where we didn’t even have space to move out of his AOE’s. And that’s not even our fault, that’s Anet’s fault for poor Description Text and even worse geometry design.

This is why I love the ability to describe groups with the LFG tool. They are like your terms and conditions. If it’s advertised as an experienced run, there’s less grief in enforcing those terms. And if it’s just simply “LFG” or “LFM”, you need to be prepared to take what you get.

Okay, for a dungeon where the action is faster and everything including the trash hits harder (or builds up stacks of Frenzy like aboms), yeah several wipes might be fine. But this just seemed more gimmicky to me so all that had to be done was dodge early and dodge often (assuming you still have space to dodge in or the floor doesn’t bug or all the other crap we’ve heard about Bugs in this thing). ….yeah it’s definitely gimmicky and not everyone here played Gw1 enough to be comfortable with just watching what happens first to learn the patterns before going kittens to the walls on the main objective

Definition of Madness: Trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
COMMUNICATION is the key to this dungeon. People who have done it before need to stop and explain if someone seems newbish/confused. For first timers, don`t be afraid to stop, stay back and OBSERVE what is going on. you need to know what attacks are being used and what to avoid. TIMING is everything in dodging the high DPS attacks. The areas in which you fight the boses are spacious and leave plenty of room to get out of danger.

This dungeon is faceroll once you understand the boss mechanics like SO MANY have said before.

It was definitely hard the first time through. Mostly because, when I did it, there wasn’t anyone to teach me. You found out not to kill the oil eating ooze through experience, trust me.

But I’ve always had two philosophies that has gotten me through many tough spots, both in real life and in games. In games, specifically MMOs, it shows up a lot. The two philosophies are as follows:

#1: There’s no point in ragequitting because you’ll suck just as bad in another team.
#2: I have figure out what is going on and teach people because no one else will.

Story of my life right there. I can’t count how many times that I’ve been in a group, and we were given an assignment, or a task, or a job, or a challenge, and upon hearing that challenge everyone just stopped and stared at me. Mouth ajar, silently begging for me to provide the almighty solution, and if I did not they would get frustrated and want to go elsewhere. I am sincerely perplexed that people think that, if they are in a group situation and can’t figure out a problem or can’t contribute meaningfully, that the fault lies with others and they should go somewhere else. To me, it is as if the notion of gravity itself is foreign to these people.

Every subsequent run I’ve had of this dungeon has been a teaching one, even when I am not the one who hosted the group. The intensity of these teaching runs varies, though. Sometimes I can just give a quick synopses and everyone gets it. Other times I have to constantly follow around a troublesome player, yelling out instructions for failure after failure until either they leave, or they eventually learn. I still do see a lot of ragequitters, though. As much as I’d like to just dismiss them as “leeching” that isn’t the case; they sincerely believe that failure is the fault of the rest of the group when they themselves mess up.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

i really hate this dungeon path,
after a few halfhearty attemtps over the last week which alwasy ended at the ooze labyrinth and people quiting after 20 min, i made up my mind to complete it finally and searched for a group (took me 4 groups to fine one which didnt consist of quiters and noobs), then finally oze took us around 40 mins with swapping out 3 people in the process (the kind of people where you explain ooze for 5 min then they run in and hundred blade the ooze down),
when that was finally done we trial and errored our way through the dungeon with around 4-6 wipes on every boss and puzzle.

then after 2 hours of pure frustration we finally arrived at the end boss where you need to detonate 8 reactors with holographs, needless to say we wiped 4 times again, then when we wanted to try for the 5th time there were simply no more holos spawning and we were unable to reset the quest in any way.

so frustrating, i dont feel like doing this dungon path ever again.

Honestly I’m just getting tried that Anet think we are one big friendly community who can cooperate with each other just fine. Ok sure that is true but NOT when you’re in a team with strangers!

I mean come on! The molten allience dungeon was perfect while the newer dungeons have to be so much taxing due to them wanting to get us to think outside of the box! Again I know people will disagree with me who loved the difficulty and challange but I don’t epescially when I don’t see the dungeon run being successful due to ragequitter or those who are doing it for the first time!

7 out of 7 attempts, the party leader has left while attempting this new dungeon path.
Usually during the extremely frustrating goo gate rubbish.

I admire you thinking outside the box for dungeon ideas.. but not only are dungeons extremely unrewarding for their sheer frustration, but this new one forces people to become rage quitters.

All I get in response is.. run it with friends, run it with your guild..

This is a perfect example of how the LFG tool is useless unless you reward players for pugging and reaching the end without quitting.

Just had to get that off my chest…
Carry on…

Oh… I ran it with guildies. One warrior and all the rest “light armor” toons. Not funny and didn’t build our confidence in ONE ANOTHER.

Big problem – there were three of us who had not done this dungeon before – and didn’t know that it was a three to four hour marathon!

NO ONE who has a family, children, a JOB or even a LIFE can do three hours at a time.

Anet, you didn’t think about anyone but the hardcore gamer, your warriors and your guardians – because that’s what is going around on our server – Ft. Aspenwood – if you aren’t a warrior or guardian – the stupid thing will wipe on you more percent of the time than ever necessary.

The oozes are easy if you realize one thing…you’re not going to DPS those lava elementals down in time. Crowd control them instead. Use pushes, pulls, walls, stuns, knockdowns, chill, immobilize, stuns, everything you can to stop them from getting close to or hitting the oozes. If need be, have the one providing the CC on one side stand in the way of the elementals attacks so the ooze won’t get hit.
