Guys, stop complaining. There’s a bunch of people trying to download this at once, of course there will be some problems. Nothing that patience cannot fix…

As I said before, go to the bathroom or grab a snack or something. It should only take a few minutes.

I really think Anet should preload this kind of stuff over the course of a week. Then they just flip a switch to activate it and bam, we’re there.

Not prepared for everyone trying to download at the same time, at the beginning of the event ? Were they hoping half of us would download the patch after the event was over ?

They should make pre patch downloads so we don’t have these issues

After a connection error message for 5-10 minutes, mine resumed downloading for a while and then ran into another connection error. Looks like the retry works, so I suggest letting it run and doing something else for a while.

Yes, we’re hammering the patch server.
[corrected]~10MB so far, 5.209K files to go, and almost solid Connection error(s) retrying.

ArenaNet really need to:
A) find a way to separate the download from the content activation. Something like the code for dynamic events (which activates objects as well as mobs) and unlocking mini-dungeons (which unlocks fixed content).
B) schedule the download release for the period of lowest activity say midnight PST so that the downloads get spread out as people log on and don’t kill game access.

I just bought the game to my girlfriend and we were trying to login…. connection error. YAY

Just relax and wait…at least we don’t have to pay monthly for this :P

So I am looking forward to Wintersday and I see the ad for another discount, and I am thinking yeah, maybe a second account. Then I try to logon and connection errors. Another auspicious start to a big event. What a buzzkill. There goes that plan.
Back to Gw1, which works.

Nothing like a little nostalgia. Running around with 7 heroes and mob of minions, killing stuff and grabbing a buried treasure. How come I cant send these mats to the bank? Oh, Gw1. Where’s my salvage kit. Ah the memories.

Enough of a break so that gw2 is now loading. all is right with the world – for now.

Is it best to leave the launcher running while it’s attempting to connect, or close it? I can entertain myself by watching the “phone booth” scene at the end of Airplane! while I wait, stuff like this always reminds me of that.

lol wintersday is heading to a good start

wow this is becoming a pattern same thing happened at halloween. I was playing fine before this bs update.

Good thing it kicked me out of a spvp match mid way and then refuses to download, good good.

Hmmmm…..me too, connection error…retrying…1Kb….I finally get my internet hooked up again (ex issues) and I can"t play, arghhhhhhhh. Have fun to those of you who can :-)

Makes perfect sense that there would be connection issues with a PST Friday night update.
What doesn’t make sense is:
1. The timing
2. No trickle feed available days before patch implemented.

Perhaps these options could be considered for future large updates.

Screw that dev. We shouldnt have to be patient. It’s not our fault for all downloading at once, it’s arena net’s for having crappy servers. Like seriously? Was cheerful awaiting a nice event, and nope. Can NEVER go smooth. Always has to be a screw up. Frickin arena net, continuously showing us their incompetence.

I was excited to get started tonight, but I suppose my expectations were a little too high.

Hopefully I can start playing soon.

Edit:
I left it on at the retrying screen, and it eventually resumed. Even though on one of my computers it was cutting in and out for a bit, but looks like both of my machines are downloading fine now.
