winters day final event reward
Nobody said or read about anything that say final event. Either u are trying to create a flaming thread or just confused that this is the curse shore event.
Recruiting dungeon raiders.
I just want to know if this event will have a reward worth playing for. Like the lost shore. Thats all.
I just want to know if this event will have a reward worth playing for. Like the lost shore. Thats all.
I’m going to say “no”, just so that you’ll not play it. I really don’t know if there’s a reward or not, but if that’s your only motivation then by all means don’t join in the holiday festivities.
I’m glad that A.Net never announced the rewards for the killing of the Ancient Karka, as the only people that participated were those wanting to actually do the event (though some expecting a large reward were there, they just had no idea).
So, with this event, I instead ask that if there is any such reward that A.Net again not tell anyone and that only those that participate for the sake of it would get it.
P.S. When I hear of people not wanting to do anything unless they get “uber rewarding loots”, it only makes me think of Scrooge.

Just want to plan my day, many users like me will be busy that day and knowing that we will miss something big (like a precursor) will help us plan better.
Also everyone play this game as they want, saying that we dont deserve a reward because we dont participate in the events is unfair.
Im sure many of us give up the karka event because was a lag fest and or have other things to do and im sure that a lot of us would love to participate if we knew about that chest.
@OP: Nobody knows for sure. ANet didn’t say anything during the Lost Shores about how the end chest could drop Precursors either. However, for Wintersday all of the special events are repeatable once Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch, and he hangs around for 2 weeks, so you don’t really need to worry about missing out on a single day.

You have two weeks to claim the final reward.
Don’t flame the OP for what you have concocted in your head and now think you have reason to fill a paragraph with harsh baseless accusations. The end of the year will be a busy time for those of us that, you know, have lives. And we would like to plan those lives accordingly. All this talk of ‘just wanting to grab your precursor’ it nonsense. If that’s what you feel people are thinking then good for you. But it isn’t.
You have two weeks to claim the final reward.
Will be away for longer than that so no reward for me. Still going to attempt to see as much of wintersday as possible.

Actually that is very fair. You would not expect to get a reward for an event you did not participate in? If someone tried and was unable due to bug then that is a different matter. You are arguing whether you will choose to or not and still expect a reward? (“Also everyone play this game as they want, saying that we dont deserve a reward because we dont participate in the events is unfair.”)

Please do not give away such valuable rewards again. I’m not saying that there should be nothing but it is somehow shifting the perception of the event from beeing a great event which you want to join for the sake of beeing great into an event which you join only for the reward you gain afterwards.
Given that it’s a festive event and not a one-time event, I would assume that it’s just a costume hat. Or possibly a ‘Present’ with a chance to get wintersday skins, minipet or festive consumables. More on the lines with Halloween. Tixx won’t be handing out pre-cursors because he’s a toymaker not a blacksmith!

Probably this. It’ll just be like the Halloween hat. An NPC somewhere that you talk to and gives you the hat (if that character doesn’t already have it).
Please give us a keyring…
I wouldn’t want ANet to confirm anything. OP might only want to plan his day, but I know there will be plenty of other people who simply will sit and wait till others do all the hard work first, then jump in at last minute to perhaps get a few hits in or something, and get the reward without doing any of the stuff leading up to it.

Having missed out in the Karka event myself, it actually is quite fair that people did not get a reward for an event in which they did not participate. If you don’t participate, of course you’re not going to be rewarded.
The unfairness of the Karka event was not that those who did not participate were not rewarded. The unfairness of that particular event was that it was SO incredibly limited (only offered for several hours) that a large portion of the playerbase simply could NOT participate through no fault of their own (work, school, family commitments, time zone differences, etc.). Many players (myself included) were not given the opportunity to participate and missed out on some pretty significant rewards. Which was quite disappointing.
I for one am glad ArenaNet has learned from that mistake and are giving players a solid two weeks to get the final reward for the Wintersday event.

I got a precursor in the last event and it honestly didn’t make the event more or less fun for me. I hope more people have the chance to get a rare precursor in this event too. It (a higher chance for the most valued items in the game) is a good reward for a once-a-X event, imo.
If the event is fun, it’s fun regardless of reward but why not give people a once-a-X opportunity at loot that would basically be otherwise unobtainable for most of the player base?

my money’s on polymock pieces. as tixx is obviously the harbinger of polymock.
so no, in your opinion OP, it will probably not be worth logging in.
I’m sort of on the fence with this issue, and here’s why…
On the one hand, I agree with the underlying principle that playing the events should be its own reward, in that we’ll have a great time doing it – after all that’s why we play this game. In general I regard any rewards as icing on the cake, or a nice souvenir for my character by way of saying ‘I was there…’
But on the other hand, getting an unexpected and valuable treasure is also great fun. I’d hate to see Anet stop this altogether, and with prices for everything on the TP steadily rising it would be nice to get the occasional windfall. It would improve the overall ‘feel-good factor’ of the game to come out of Wintersday with a few nice presents – I don’t mean precursors, necessarily, but perhaps a nice exotic weapon or trinket with useful stats and an appropriately themed skin. Something a level 80 character would find useful enough to keep, but not at the level of being game-changing.

Well I do not like it because it is feeding jealousy. Those who could not attend the event for what ever reasons and could not loot the chest did not get such a chance. And I think it is in a way forcing people to take part in the event to have their chance even though they might not like it. Not directely ofc but still in a way. And it does not only go for the precursor item but the bag that everyone got is pretty valuable for me too. Ten gold is alot for me too. And people who did not get that are somehow excluded. Thats just my opinion.
Maybe it’s just different if it’s not a one time only event, no idea…

Why do i get the feeling “You have two weeks to claim the final reward.” means something along the lines of Fractal/dung tokens u get for each event = buy something from the Santa merchant before it disappears for good!?!?
Anyway, precursor/no precursor/exotics etc etc, im happy to just participate in the festive events, only happens once a year!
besides theres still exp, gold and karma from the events so not like your losing out on much..

If they have a hard, involved event like the Lost Shores opening again, I hope they DO have a chest with rares/exotics in it again. While it was mostly fun, it was a grueling thing too and needed those to help make it worth it.

Seriously, what is up with peoples sense of entitlement with this game? So do you call your local Congressman to complain after Black Friday when you find out 100 people who waited in line for hours at Walmart were able to get an HDTV for $100? But since you had other obligations and were unable to get in on the deal, you should also be given the same deal?
Sometimes we can’t make it to an event, that’s life. It doesn’t mean that nothing good should be at the event because everyone in the world can’t be there. Or that everyone one should just be sent the item regardless of doing the event or not. Do you people want everyone to just log into the game and everyone gets the exact same items sent to your mailbox so everything is perfectly fair?
(edited by laharl.8435)
Gosh, I’m giving arguments for my opinion nothing else. No need to get personal by using not fitting RL analogies. And btw I got my chest, still I don’t think it’s fair that several got nothing. They did already miss the event you know?
And what I said is just the other way round to be precise, there should not be such a valuable reward for something a big porpotion of players might miss.
And I see a difference between something “good” and something insanely valuable. Plus I never said someone else is not allowed to have another opinion, but than give some arguments and don’t attack me.
(edited by Pirlipat.2479)
The real life analogy is quite fitting actually. But I can put it in game terms if you like. So I was in Cursed Shore last night. About 15 of us killed Grenth and got the chest. One person got a very valuable item. Should everyone in the game also get the item? Many people weren’t level 80 and didn’t have the gear to be able to participate. Many people didn’t even know we were doing it. Some people have complained they can’t get far in Cursed Shore because they can’t find a group. Or, as you stated some people might not like the Karka event, some people might not like the Grenth event. Whatever the reason, many people were unable or didn’t want to participate and will be unable to participate in the future. So everyone should get the item even though they weren’t at the event? Or nothing valuable should be given at the event because everyone can’t be there? It just doesn’t make sense.
Just like Tixx will be in each city for 24 hours, some people won’t be able to make it, or they might not like the event. So apparently they might as well either not give away anything nice or just send the same nice thing to everyone’s mailbox regardless.

I see still a huge difference between waiting in front of walmart and participating in something which is supposed to be fun. But when you like queing…
You know that oceanic players could barely make it due to work and you know that it was quite late for several european players. You know that many people had technical difficulties, right? So if you want the flaming to go on after another event…
Edit: And once again: I never said there should be nothing. Just something not that expensive. Like a 18 place box would have been quite fine too instead of a 20 place one and not make such a huge difference. Like I said before it might be different if people actually get the chance to participate.
(edited by Pirlipat.2479)
Ill try this again since Anet deemed by post saying assume is a naughty word
Don’t presume <— not assume don’t infract me almighty moderator
Anyways; don’t presume that anet will do the same thing over and over again.
You don’t go to Walmart every day and presume <— didn’t say assume. That they will have a 50% off every day on soda. As such, you can’t expect that the finale will always be a 30 second video clip.
$20 says ill get infracted again :rolls eyes: ^-^

Like you said, some people didn’t like the Karka event. Just like the OP apparently doesn’t like these events, but he’s apparently willing to put himself through if there is a good reward.
I was one of the people that had technical difficulties, so yes I know. The flaming will happen regardless of what Anet does. If some people end up getting a precursor, some people that didn’t will be mad. As will people that didn’t do the event because they didn’t know they could get something good, they will come here and complain. If no one gets a nice item, people like the OP will complain that it wasn’t worth their time.
The basis for some of the arguments here seem to stem from the issue that the final event of Lost Shores was a limited one-time event. Anet’s response during AMA:
“Moving forward we are going to do our best to design events that are accessible to the community as possible. We really should have thought about some of the ramifications of the design of the Karka event in more detail. In short its not something we wanted to happen and we will be rethinking how we do 1 time events moving forward.”

My 2 cents: It’d be awesome if people played the events or dungeons just for the fun of it, but there will always be players that play to get the end reward. They have every right as anyone else to enjoy this game in their own way.

Agreed, I don’t care about the motives of the person playing the event. I just think they should have to participate to get the reward. And I don’t believe that they shouldn’t give good rewards for these events because not everyone can or will participate. Even though this event is more spread out time wise, there will still be people that either choose not to do the event or simply can’t make it. I don’t think that Anet should be sending everyone in the game the event reward regardless of whether they participated or not.

A precursor or at least chance for a precursor, even if its +1% increase rate of the norm would be great, but hey we can’t have it all.
But i think i read somewhere that anyone with an Ausarian character will receive a specific race item?!?!? is that correct?
So like Human, Norn, Charr and Slyvari get nothing?
if its true then dammit! i have yet to roll a little freak! Anet give out discount on gems/bundle char solts so i can get another char slot so i can get this item!!!!
i dont really feel like exchanging like 12-15g for 800 gems unless santa brings me a gem card for my pressie!
Event reward = account bound… would resolve the attraction to gold farmers and bots.
Or … recipe of said pre-cursor = precursor price crash. Will never happen, but OP doesn’t sound very motivated unless there is a big shiny $ worthy opportunity. Just saying. If I find you on the snowball battlefield, the big ugly norn trying to facewash you … is me. I get a +100 to all stats against scrooge-lings.
~ Enjoy the festivities folks, and let the games begin.
Lol stop begging for precursors. They already said they will add scavenger hunt related things for them. Stop trying to monetize holiday events.

Don’t flame the OP for what you have concocted in your head and now think you have reason to fill a paragraph with harsh baseless accusations. I got a question about whole events. I´m a beginner player in Guild Wars 2 since it has been less than a week when I joined in and I have missed these previous events but I know what kind of the Island event was. Now my question is that does this even have some level cap limitations or recommendations as you all know, in less than a week a noob has hard time getting all the way to 80 levels so I´m fairly low on levels but would like to take apart in this event but if it is meant for high level players, then I will stay out since I don´t want to be a leech there and boost my levels as well.
Fair play everyone and Merry Christmas!

And Welcome to GW2 =)
Thank you!
The experience I´ve gotten has been awesome and I think so will the upcoming experience define a new meaning to awesome.
I have a question about this final reward, since I wasn’t really active in GW 2 due to work related stuff… In about 13 days I am leaving to my fiancee so in those 13 days can I do all the stuff needed for final reward or… How is it obtained? Thx for the answer.
I will add my two cents to the disussion if you please:
I think giving away powerful character progressing loot for a one-time event is a horrible idea. If it were something like a skin that tells “I was there.”, I guess that would be bad enough. But not being able to get something like exotic armour, just you weren’t able to participate in a tiny time window of a few hours is pathetic. I’m generally not one to give a lot of thought to loot, but this seems a bit too unfair.
In addition, I think that one-time events are not a very good idea anyway. A majority of the playerbase won’t be able to participate due to time zone problems or real life issues. I guess a lot of people that would’ve wanted to take part in that karka event weren’t able to, just because they were probably busy doing something else. I, personally, have other things to do on a sunday night. That’s just a personal problem of mine, but I guess I’m not alone in that I don’t have a life that allows me to just play whenever some developer thinks I should be able to do so.
I mean, they put all the work into creating a supposedly cool sequence of events and then only a small percentage of the playerbase is able to participate? That’s really illogical. These things should always run for at least a week to give as many players as possible the theoretical chance to participate (could be implemented through separate “event”-servers so that the event isn’t rerunning on the servers for that whole period). Otherwise such one-time events are just a waste of manpower on the developers side and they’d better put these people to work on all the bugs that still haunt the game.

So we have 2 weeks to claim our final reward, I think I’m going to wait until Christmas morning. Lots still left to accomplish, well JP and Toypocalypse I think is all, but still … =)
I’ve collected so many giant presents I wish I could give them to the kids. Be a waste to open 200+ all to myself. Already have the toy skins I want, and mats for the minis (yet tbd but <3 golem).
And to the above poster, the monthly events … are just that. Monthly events. Not intended as new continual content, however we did get lost shores map. If you look at your map today, you can see plenty more space to expand too for permanent content and I’d assume the dev team has already been working on these things.
The events though, are just that. Said opportunities for people to come together on. Completely optional, we all have lives, and only ‘x’ your not alone. But they are amazing. I don’t want continual ongoing events to feel special, I want unique one time events to feel special. Otherwise i would never leave cursed shore.
Personal opinion, but they do a great job mixing and releasing the various types of content. They don’t have to target the entire audience, only open the option for people to check out.
@ turk – What does this equal? Well … me agreeing with the first statement, of your write up and having a difference of opinion to your second. The festivities themselves are very interesting, and ‘different’.
Gaming is serious business.

Funny you should mention that: Anet have stated that Ascended gear will be obtainable by methods other than Fractal grinding (they specifically mentioned WvW) some time in the new year, and that it was a significant error to restrict the obtaining a whole new category of gear to a tiny part of the game.
