This is a bit shocking! (post from reddit)
Unfortunately I didn’t need reddit to learn this. I went the hard way. The Frost and Flame dye kits are absolutely appalling in the chance of getting anything decent. Worse than anything else as far as I’m concerned.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
It’s luck. Or call it RNG. I bought one pack and got the special dye. I bought another another time, and didn’t. I knew the risks, and accepted that. Some people enjoy the lottery, some do not. To each their own.
If you are spending money on cash shop to buy dyes or any RNG content then you either are so rich you can use your money as a toilet paper (that would actually give a better use to that money) or you are a little crazy really.
Bought only 1 dye in my life from gem store, with the gems I received for free from the achievement box, and it dropped the worst common brown dye worth 80c.
O°v°O
the actual problem here is that theres not any indication that this item is RNG with chance to get low rarety dyes, the text on the shop only says that you get random frost or flame dyes

The issue with those crazy people that enjoy the lottery is that the rest of us don’t get anything because Anet has decided to just devote all of their focus to getting as much money as possible off of these lottery players.
That’s disturbing. You should have a bigger chance to get one of those 6 dyes. Seriously. You’re buying the dye kit to get one of the 6 exclusive dyes and you get none.
Terrible implementation of RNG.
I made a thread but for the BLC RNG, with the tickets and scraps being total random i came up with an idea. They should do something similar with the dye kits.

The problem is not RNG. The problem is there is no indication on the chance to get the rare dye. So people are mislead that the chance to get rare dye and common dye are the same.
If I have known the chance to get the rare dye is lower than the common dye, I wouldn’t buy them from the cash shop. I learnd it the hard way.
Well the thing with these exclusive dye kits. They all aren’t exclusive. If you had a chance to get 1 of the exclusive dyes from a kit, that is 1 of 6 dyes, that would be a loss for ArenaNet and also a loss for the game as those dyes wouldn’t be as rare.
Still, it’s a crappy way to sell exclusive dyes. It should be implemented in a better way. As for now i think most people have to buy these stuff on the TP. Let all the rich people spend cash on the gem store for us.
The Flame and Frost one didn’t turn out that bad…but that last one…wow! Got a little over 1 gold back from a 200 gold purchase? You have to really love red to get that to start with….I mean…200 gold for a red color? Um…yeah.
Not sure what this proves other than what everyone knows. It’s random. Somewhere else somebody bought one dye and got something worth 70 gold or 100 gold or whatever. It’s gambling…the house wins in the end….everytime! Those casinos don’t get that big and expense from them losing. It’s the same thing here. Gamblers lose in the end.
I dont’ think people understand why casino always win.
Casino always win because people dont’ stop till they are all out of money.
I don’t understand why people who don’t buy(or can’t afford) gem store items complain about the people who do. Clearly they can afford to spend the money they have and it isn’t your decision on how they spend it. The micro-transactions is what makes Guild Wars 2 free, so why complain when someone spends their own money on a gamble?
^ I don’t think that’s the problem there.
Obviously many people have problem with RNG.
But another problem is Anet dont’ release the odds of the RNG.
Many people that look at the ads first would have think the ods of all dye are the same. Which is clearly not the case.
I understand the Anet is a business part. Quite honestly, Anet isn’t even pushing the cashshop that much compare to some other mmorpg. It’s hard to blame Anet when some of their competition are much more shady(and in turn make more money).

The problem is that Anet wants us to buy gems AND then gamble for dyes, instead of letting us buy gems and just giving us the thing we want for them.
The description of the dye packs in the gem store is pretty darn explanatory.
‘Contains one random armor dye from a pool of 25 colors that includes six new, exclusive colors.’
At least 19/25 chances to get a dye other than one of the exclusive ones. I guess people don’t read what they are actually buying. You can’t really blame ArenaNet for that.

You should reread what I wrote. Which clearly showed the problem. The chance to get the rare dye is not 6/25. It is much lower than that.
People think there are 25 dyes so all dye have the same chance of dropping. It’s not.

The best solution was/is to never support real money RNG gambling in video games.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.

Even if it’s 1/25 or 6/25 to get an exclusive new dye it’s 1/25 or 6/25 for each Dye Kit. Which makes it all based on pure luck. Opening a Dye Kit won’t increase your chances when opening the next Dye Kit. Which makes the RNG of these gem store items kitten.
I won’t buy RNG from the gem store unless they improve it.

Which would make sense it every dye had the same chance to spawn. The kittenedly high TP price of the F&F dyes says this is absolutely not true.
To be honest, other mmorpg are making more than GW2 from micro transaction. I’m talking about subscription and freemium games in which most people already are paying a subscription.
It is hard to complain when that’s the case.

Well, China is getting a VIP subscription system. Which let’s you subscribe for bonuses.
If we get this in the west, it would be really good. But then ArenaNet would have to cut most of the RNG in the gem store or at least improve the way RNG works.
