GvG happens in WvW. They were, therefore, questions about WvW.

People started spamming it because you guys consistently ignored legitimately asked questions about it. The spamming NEVER would have happened if you guys had just stopped for two seconds and answered the questions one way or the other. Stop patronizing us.

This. ANet has said time and time again that there will continue to be new masteries added. Why was that question chosen as legitimate? I have doubts that it was even asked in the first place.

GvG is currently a big part of the WvW meta, and also the reason a lot of WvW guilds are still running. Three letters is enough to get our point across, it’s not like the devs don’t know what we are talking about.

They should just make that capture point 4x the size and then we can GvG on it. It has stands and everything!!

GvG happens in WvW. People have been asking about it since beta, as I already said.

They created and released 9 fractals in TWO MONTHS. They create large amounts of content every two weeks that is released (including whole new zones). They have revamped and added a constant stream of features to the PvP arena (which they’re still blindly hoping will become an e-sport…..though there’s no chance at all that it will).

Don’t tell me they can’t add a simple GvG arena for people with far less effort than any of that took.

Do you really think they start the content on day 1 and its finished on day 14? There are teams that overlap development right now a team is working on new content and another team is working on the content to come after that.

People have been asking for it since beta? I have seen it mentioned here and there but I have all seen people ask for alot of things like mesmers asking for swiftness. It hasn’t really been brought up seriously until recently. Now that it is out there seriously you might aswell assume that the real chance that it happens would be now.

I’m sure they can create a flat land with grass on it that you have to click to go into a seperate instance then they have decide on pop cap for that. Do you want some kind of highlighted arena to symbolize out of bounds? Do you want spectator mode? Do you want a UI to pop up with the current score? Do you want anything besides just a map dedicated to just GvG? People like watching GvG’s so you have to account for spectators or do we not care about spectators? People like watching sPvP they don’t just hover around by the hogs and player agreement to not interfere like they do in WvW.

There are alot of things to consider and the message has to be unified and detailed proposal of what exactly the GvG community wants.

Even now lets assume a dev pops in and says hey guys ok we decide to implement GvG’s then who do they talk to as the authority on how it should be implemented? Do you want copy and paste of GW1 GvG? If they just give you a map will people complain that there is no spectator mode? No support for it all we got is a map? I am sure they will its alot to consider it’s not just a simple I ask Anet gives.

I had the same thought… One big arena with a capture point in the middle. Too bad we got five small arenas in a high traffic area.

And the 3 letters that are being spammed is a actually part of your game… I’m glad at least you can spam gvg in the forums without banned.

Also there are quite a few devs that play in WvW, I’m sure they know what GvG as well.

Some of the GvG supporters in here are borderline enthusiastic apologists for Anet’s negligent responsibility to respond to the organic evolution of its own product. This is a human community.

Call me “entitled.” I’m a 1st generation gamer. I know the difference between a responsible “connected,” developer and an exploitive developer. I have personally experienced both situations [previous to this game service]. You [owners of Anet’s revenue] think you will have an endless stream of human players to "turn over" your population loss? You are wrong.

I see you flailing around with a PR campaign offering a free trial to lure in more people. Meanwhile, you show disrespect to elements of the human community that remains.

I feel for the GvG crowd. You are up against a wall fighting to survive.

I was a WvW focused player. I never did GvG matches. However, the guilds I worked with instantly recognized its value. We adapted, we trained, we learned, and we died often at the hands of GvG crews [referencing RedGuard’s visit to Tier 1 NA]. It took time to have an informed opinion on GvG. It took time to understand its history in the game. I wasn’t a supporter in the beginning. That all changed after I benefited from increased gameplay skill thanks to those original innovators who mastered the mechanics & character builds.

So, thank you, GvG community for your contribution to the game. I will not forget the experience. I apologize that I did not work with the GvG community in a more direct way.

I wasn’t suggesting that the idea of GvG was new I even stated that I have seen it mentioned. What I was posting is that it hasn’t been a hot button issue until recently. If it was hot button the way it was communicated sure wasn’t visible maybe it disappeared fast below the piles of “Nerf stealth threads”

The reason I mentioned the date of the thread is because this is a good way to get it really recognized in a constructive manner by making a thread dedicated to GvG’s and the scene. I am not uninformed about GvG’s but nice assumption on your part.

My post is trying to give a different perspective as best I can as to what all has to be discussed about GvG’s so that arena understands exactly what the GvG community wants.

I don’t care if its 15vs15 or 25vs25 but the mechanic of the game with the new battle system, its obvious that the classic GvG from GW1 is not working here.
It’s kinda hard to develop sth everyone will like in the end. The GW1 vets (which I am part of) and the DAoC RvR vets. Every player has another Image of a GvG mode

My guild has boomed recently in both PvP and WvW and we are now interested in starting up GvG. We are just at the stage of forming our classes/builds.

Right now I’m thinking 15 mesmers reflection/retaliation/mass invis builds. LOL just kidding but honestly we would appreciate some basic guidance in team composition and builds. Not asking for proprietary secrets etc just enough info to accelerate our upcoming appearance onto the GvG scene.

oZ, Anet has not communicated that they understand. They have not tried. They do not engage the WvW community. They do not engage the GvG community. They are neglectful and dismissive. If you want to engage with them why not make your own thread?

If you want to be understood as “informed,” communicate your understanding in more detail so others can determine where you stand? Don’t be shy.

That’s the kind of response you are never going to get, the choices you offer are absolutes and companies like ANet typically don’t like to deal in absolutes very often. They prefer to leave any statements open ended for a reason, to have the wiggle room to change their mind if needs be for whatever reason. (they don’t do it out of spite, it just happens to be “best practice” for them).

Suffice to say, if they were actively considering supporting GvG as a separate game type the best you would get would be something like “We are currently looking into possibilities” or “We currently have no definitive, plans but we are thinking about it” on the other hand the fact that they are silent pretty much guarantees that the have no such plans in the foreseeable future (if they did, they could give a vague open statement akin to what the they did for the precursor scavenger hunt earlier this year).

They will never say never, as much of a cliche as that is… because that would mean people would stop hoping for it and also that they would have backed themselves into a verbal corner.

Huh? My post was in response to someone being frustrated that it wasn’t mentioned in the Dev Stream. That was the start you seem to be picking pieces of what I said and putting them together.

GvG just came up recently in the WvW section you think anyone would have a response for you this soon? The best you would have probably gotten was “We have started discussing it” that’s the best you would have gotten.

This thread was created 5 days ago all that is going to happen is your going to keep getting frustrated because you demand answers Asap.

What did you even want answered? You want a new map for GvG only when there is a thread for debated rules on GvG in the first place. So you want arena net to read minds of what the established ruleset is for GvG’s?

You have to provide them with information it would probably require it’s own balance because I don’t see many rangers getting alot of play in GvG’s that would require the skills and balance teams to make is so that classes are viable in sPvP and GvG’s which essentially is organized team deathmatch in open field and PvE.

They can’t click a button and make it happen it’s going to take time frustration is understandable but you would have less frustration when you actually think about everything on their part to make something happen that they probably didn’t plan on.

I actually signed into my forum account, and I never do, because I KNEW there would be a forum thread about this. GvGs aren’t the point. The point is that Anet, you are getting increasingly detached from your most loyal playerbase day by day. The proof was in that stream. I could not BELIEVE how you guys just ignored the people crying out for a GvG mode. You act like they don’t exist and even act like they detracted from the stream somehow….that stream was crap, to be honest, (some Q&A…..seriously) and it’s incredibly insulting to the hardcore guilds that make up the core of WvW the way you simply ignore us, in a stream for the very gamemode most of us play exclusively. I can’t believe how blind you guys are to this cash cow right under your noses. You try to push sPvP like the plague as an esport where a set GvG mode really has the potential to blow up. How can you not see this? There are so many people involved in this GvG scene with absolutely zero support from you lot. Imagine if you showed the slightest bit of support.

You keep catering to the lazy PVE crowd, the group of players will be gone to another game the second a new shiny one is out. You don’t cater to the people who can see what WvW really could be. We do our best with what we have, but I don’t think you realize, Anet, how GOOD the pvp in this game really is. There is a reason we started playing this game and still are, the few of us PvP people who are left. Most games don’t have pvp that is as good, as interesting, or as diverse as this game’s, less are MMOs. Even lesser still are still available to play. The siege buffs, especially ACs are completely ruining this aspect of the game. Do you seriously think that all the people trying to get you to stop are all trolls?

Believe it or not, whatever sample of the playerbase you have in your testing IS NOT helping WvW. I am trying to tell you. I am trying to warn you. All of us are. They are not representative of the people who play WvW. That much is obvious. The PvP people play this game to actually play the game and fight other groups of players. All people do anymore is sit in towers with siege, this is NOT the game that we love so much. That is spamming 3 buttons and having them be effective because they hit obscenely more targets than anything else, and do more damage than most player groups. How is that rewarding? How does that encourage actually playing the kitten classes in this game?

I am telling you this, because when both groups of people move from this game, the PvErs because of a new carrot and the PvP crowd because of horrible support from you guys, you will be left with no one. “Splitting the zerg” won’t matter. We have all seen what happens to servers when the core WvW guilds just aren’t there. They die. They have no community. The PvP crowd will leave in whole guilds and it will be sudden. The PvErs will leave slower but it will be steady and pick up as time goes along. You will either fix this now or this game is doomed to fail. I sincerely hope you change before you remember this crossroads when it is far too late. That’s my 2 cents and I think that many of the WvW crowd would agree with what I am saying.

I can’t believe how blind you guys are to this cash cow right under your noses. You try to push sPvP like the plague as an esport where a set GvG mode really has the potential to blow up. How can you not see this? There are so many people involved in this GvG scene with absolutely zero support from you lot. Imagine if you showed the slightest bit of support. You keep catering to the lazy PVE crowd, the group of players will be gone to another game the second a new shiny one is out. I don’t think you realize, Anet, how GOOD the pvp in this game really is. There is a reason we started playing this game and still are, the few of us PvP people who are left. Most games don’t have pvp that is as good, as interesting, or as diverse as this game’s, less are MMOs. Even lesser still are still available to play. The siege buffs, especially ACs are completely ruining this aspect of the game. Do you seriously think that all the people trying to get you to stop are all trolls? Believe it or not, whatever sample of the playerbase you have in your testing IS NOT helping WvW. I am trying to tell you. They are not representative of the people who play WvW. That much is obvious. The PvP people play this game to actually play the game and fight other groups of players. All people do anymore is sit in towers with siege, this is NOT the game that we love so much. That is spamming 3 buttons and having them be effective because they hit more targets than anything else, and do more damage than most player groups. How is that rewarding? How does that encourage actually playing the kitten classes in this game? I am telling you this, because when both groups of people move from this game, the PvErs because of a new carrot and the PvP crowd because of horrible support from you guys, you will be left with no one. The PvP crowd will leave in whole guilds and it will be sudden. You will either fix this now or this game is doomed to fail. I sincerely hope you change before you remember this crossroads when it is far too late.

The point is that Anet, you are getting increasingly detached from your most loyal playerbase day by day. The proof was in that stream. Thank you for taking a look into the GvG scene thread, you are the first to recognize our existence, I appreciate it. The reason GvG was being spammed all over is just because everyone before you simply ignores us.

I understand it’s really childish and the stream was not about GvG so our questions were out of place, I apologize, but is there any chance we will get an official reply if “Guild vs Guild” is something Anet is thinking about, considering at all?

I’m not on the design team, so I cannot reply for them. That being said, I can make note of it in my feedback reports.

We know Twitch chat doesn’t make it easy for everyone to be heard. And we know that it can seem that no one is watching these threads. The great thing is that for every respectful and constructive post & thread, it DOES get greater visibility.

I sincerely hope you change before you remember this crossroads when it is far too late. That’s my 2 cents and I think that many of the WvW crowd would agree with what I am saying.
