[[Unofficial GvG Scene Thread]]
Once again,, notice what Devon said:
We’ve seen that people have been organizing their own combat in WvW and that’s really cool, but WvW requires changes that are not always in step with the gameplay that has been emerging.
Since he included it in the thread on GVG, would that not mean the GvG is one of those items NOT IN STEP with the gameplay?
Well, Anet said they want epic battles in wvw but they boosted AC (and still are constantly boosting sieges and zerging) which kills these battles. Now are people sitting whole day behind walls with 10 ACs and shooting everything that moves or moving only in 60+ blobs and skill lagging others… With random matchups and no incentive in gaining points for server there’s no reason to siege at all. Without GvG the organized wvw community would die moths ago (or shrink to nothing). When Anet starts doing changes that make wvw more fun I may respect their desires. Now I will be playing with what game supports (and large battles are not) and what is most fun – GvG, organized guild raids in open field, arranged 1v1 etc.
The To-Do list for the new gw2gvg site is getting smaller and smaller..
I’m looking for some alpha testers who want to find any bugs before it goes live (and while I finish the last bits of the site). If you’re interested please send me a PM on these forums!

The new orbs seem to be a bit of rock & hard place stick for ANet and Devon.
If they are desirable enough (offering powerful buffs) then they will by necessity of their spread out, multi-point capture require that zergs split up to capture and hold these while some people are left at structures for scouting. A full 80 man zerg is just not going to be able to cover that much terrain at sufficient speeds to stop multiple 20-mans or some such capping or decapping the points. But the buff will kill GvG (fairness) on the BLs.
Conversely, if the buff does nothing of worth (Magic Find/Gold Find zzzzz) then no one will care about it and continue their 80 man zerging all over the map. But GvG will be safe.

If map size doesn’ change (and it won’t) those 5 points will be way too close each other imo.
Cluttering the map, increasing the density of cap points (and thus players) instead of spreading them. So those might be even counterproductive in that sense.
I guess it’s way too early to tell tho. But i’m not very confident.

Some quick grabs from the Vii vs Dsun and Vii vs GH today. I can’t wait to rewatch on video.
VII is looking amazing, they seem to have an edge over the rest. It’s close guys. It’s very close…
The next Big Thing.
Yeah, seems so.
Thanks VII for GvG tonight and congratulations for clear victory. Can you please stay on Kodash for some more weeks so we can meet more often?
Nah, I’m just kidding. Or am I?..
Anyway, it is exactly what we are looking for in GvG – opponents who are pushing us to the limit and beyond. I’d trade 1 hour or tonight’s GvG for a month of usual WvW raiding any day. Still thrilled…
anyone got links to the videos of the matches? would love to watch them.

I’m not sure which issues are you talking about, you’ll have to contact whoever you was trying to arrange bouts with before. We are notorious for having ridiculously low number of GvGs (official and unofficial combined) compared to others guilds in top10-15, and there are several reasons for that, which also change over time.

Map size certainly won’t be changing, but I do not think that point density is as big an issue for spreading players out or not. One of the bigger draws of WvW is that it is rather fast paced, not having to go far or trek across miles of terrain just to fight people.
The cap points themselves seem to have differing designs + elevations (adv/disadv to the defenders/attacks) as well the conquest mechanic which will inevitably require some defenders since its out in the open. The pentagram design seems to put them at around the same separation as Garri to Bay (roughly) and longer on the diagonal. A single zerg would never be able to cover and cap three such points without being forced to leave defenders to avoid back-capping/de-capping.
Of course this is rather idyllic.
Either way, they certainly give something new for small squads/havoc/roamers that are of rather large importance. I can’t imagine a zerg is just going to camp three of the five nodes while the other two servers have free reign on the map, for instance.
The forcing of choice is always a good thing in this sort of gametype. Do I X or do I Y? One should have to weigh these costs and benefits, and borderlands have been lacking this sort of decision making since the removal of orbs.

I wouldn’t mind helping, but my PM inbox is full so you won’t be able to reply if I PM you. You can find my email address under D|ERPs contact information.
The distance is probably so close that zerg can split and if needed still gather at one point. And if there will be fight at all orgs the skill lag will be much worse than now.
Anyway it will not matter if 90 people will be ACed in keep and run/waypoint as zerg to defend.
The buff would have to be really big to force them defend more places at same time. If this the case then it would not only put GvG in danger but kill roaming and small scale wvw for sure. 1 vs 1(with buff) will be much harder and people start zerging more. With higher numbers the difference start be not that huge. And server with higher population will hold orbs so will be stronger -> weaker server will be stomped over and over again and stop playing -> will be more weaker…
If the buff is insignificant and reward for taking it are WXP then people will farm it the same way they farm worm and camps. If there’s no reward and no buff then nobody will care and nothing will change…
I hope Anet removes waypoints. Give these orbs on opposite sides of map and give them some different bonuses. Like server that holds them gains more points for next few minutes and then they restarts to unoccupied. Or opposite servers will gain less points. Or give supply all allied players on border. Or destroy one random enemy wall/gate. Or drain enemy supply from keep. Or destroys random 50 enemy ACs. Just something important, something changing way of sieging/defending, something giving more advantage to weaker server but not completely gamebreaking like stat buff.

You make a good point but part of it is already true. Even now a 80 man blob is way inferior to 4 groups of 20 players. The thing is it’ll suck for at least 2 of those 4 groups because they will get rolled over, the other 2 might be successful in their exploits. It is hard to see why people would start to do the smart thing now if they have refused to do so before.
You could say that there is little incentive now because the PPT game is boring and many players have abandoned it. Why would people be more eager to go for a buff that would break competitiveness?
I think this new mechanic could be a lot of fun and I look forward to it. I do not think that it’ll save the game from blobs. The worst thing about this mechanic is that it might destroy GvG’s and because of all that I am very conflicted about this. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

I love the idea of GvG’s, and I think is a lot of fun, but you really need to GvG on early week? Today a GvG had a terrible queu for us, strategy become impossible since we need to float to be able to defend and attack our enemys. Could you please consider do GvG’s in late weeks, when the match is almost defined? Tyvm for understanding and PLEASE Anet, give us a Arena for GvG?! You would make everyone happy with this!!

Oh, I see now. I just wasn’t aware it went outside the guild early. No, unfortunately, issue didn’t went away.
I’d like to talk about dividing the ladder.
There’s some disputes about what “size” is best for GvG’s, and honestly they all have different things going for them. The problem comes when a 15v15 based group doesn’t want to do 10v10 (very common) because it affects the ranks for all sizes.
If it’s divided, that sense of ranking protection should calm a bit if a guild could be #1 20v20 but #5 in 10v10. They would still be the best in their category of choice while still being able to branch out.
This seems like the only choice if the scene wants to support all sizes rather than morph into one blob. One size of GvG’s would ultimately be a mistake and lead to unneeded exclusion of many guilds.

I didn’t take any, but I would imagine it will be at least 24 hours because of rendering, etc …. If the guilds plan to share it if they did any vid. I dunno, but am hoping to rewatch if they did.
My guess is Ogre will have something at least on Saturday

One thing i know exactly, many ppl want to leave this hame because anet dont want to create some GvG stuff. Like me aswell… its become to be boring, every day running on www w/o some points. Many ppl dont wanna care about server ranking or something else, we wanna just having a fun with exactly purposes like “Guild Rating”. As i started playing the game i thought its GUILD WARS, but it ISNT guild wars, its mostly BLOB or Pug-Wars. I Hope anet will do something that the game justified the name “GUILD wars”
Then leave. It’s uneducated people like you who don’t even know that The Guild Wars was an event in Tyrian history, not the game’s staple, that encourage others to quit the game. We don’t need that attitude.

This an interesting point by this long term Jinks Fan Clubber
Here’s my idea: Set a Standard. Pick one it doesn’t matter but until then the higher ranked team decides.
My personal opinion though is less requires more skill. Coordination and team tactics definitely is present in larger matches but individual player skill gets covered up in them.
10v10 and 15v15 is the sweet spot for skilled encounters IMHO. Some teams will refuse to do smaller fights b/c it cexposes skill holes in their guild.

Not sure if that’s the biggest problem. My guild is saying no to 10v10 GvG’s because we would have 10-20 people sitting out and waiting to play. So we would rather do raiding at that time. But 15v15 is acceptable, atleast for us.

Weekends at around 7-8 pm PST time
Can’t say for sure, but I doubt it. For excample VII has a big group of players from EET (GMT+3), so your 8 pm would be 6 am for us. Something in between could work.
But who knows what happens when Vanz takes out the whip…

Nothing has changed. The WvW community has been fighting against the game itself since day one to create fun for ourselves.
We’ve been fighting culling, skill-lag, broken consumables, exploits, abilities that don’t scale properly, matchups, free-transfers, etc – just as much as we’ve been fighting each other.
After a year of fighting for the mode we love, we’ve always found a way to milk some fun out of the broken system we’ve been given.
We’ll just have to do it again, because god knows Arenanet won’t.

We don’t need that attitude.
This is not really “an attitude” or being uneducated.
If anything, the name was a poor choice for a franchise. Sure, GW1 theme revolved around this event, but in GW2 it is a thing of the past, some old war, a point in vast Tyria history (Tyria as planet, not only continent). So it is natural that people find the name unfitting or at least strange. It’s like you’d play the game called WW2 with the plot unfolding on Earth in present day and having nothing to do with WW2 specifically. Just because there was an event in Earth history, it wouldn’t make the name fitting.
Anyway, that’s more time that this subject is worth of spending on, TL:DR is, it is perfectly fine for people to complain about it or find it strange. It is just not so much a real argument, more like joke/pun.
not the game’s staple, that encourage others to quit the game
As you see, for some it is. Let’s try not to generalize
As i started playing the game i thought its GUILD WARS, but it ISNT guild wars

Its possible but both guilds need to find a comp. We are a EU guild in Na server and most of our gvg’s are vs Na guilds. The time we mostly use is around 11-12 or 1am GMT. But its very important to set time and date few days before match so both guilds can check or they get enough ppl of their gvg squad on

Well it should happen on weekends for the reason that you guys don’t have to work and can show up in the afternoon rather than evening, and EU guys can stay up to let’s say ~0:00-2:00 our times. No GvGs will happen at 5am tho Midnight in central EU is 3pm pacific so that’s times you should look at. (and as mentioned we have folks 1h ahead too, so take that into account).

How you can advocate group sizes irrelevant for main game mode? All guilds here are WvW guilds, which means your guild must be capable to show yourselves in WvW. Which means 20-25ppl group. 10 and 15 is havok squad or low-tier server group, but it’s hardly a meaningful WvW force for high-tier battles.

You don’t need to run 20-25ppl in WvW to bust zergs or have group fights. I don’t care what f’n tier you play in. Sometimes it can get that high due to more players on than normal, but 10-15 can take out 4-5x their numbers quite easily. Throw a choke hold or 2 and you see my point.
Also its harder to do and requires more skill to do it with less.
As for GvG it most certainly covers up weak links in your team. The point of GvG is to me is a test of skill, and any factor that detracts from that is detrimental to the reason we all do this. Personally I’d say cap this kitten at 10 players b/c no g’kitten sport on earth runs w/ 20 kittens on a field, but I understand how this game works thus my 15 is ok stance.
Then we’ll cover the point where I said IMHO and you realize PPT/Objective based WvW isn’t something me or my guild takes part in/care about.
I need to know the general community’s opinion on something. We all know that dodging happens, but where do we stand when a confirmed GvG gets cancelled?
This week, Mya cancelled their GvG against us. This is not a normal “dodge” – this is a fight that had been organised and confirmed, and was even up on the GW2 GvG site under “upcoming GvG’s”.
Scnd has transferred to Riverside for a GvG tour week and Mya was our first match today. They cancelled on us yesterday, with less than 24hrs notice. We, as a guild, do not feel as though their reasons are acceptable and we are extremely disappointed.
I can understand not wanting official GvG’s if you are lacking leaders, core members, and the like, but when you confirm a GvG that is a commitment that you would expect people to upkeep. You can’t really go from wanting an official fight one day, to only a scrimm the next without a big reason.
If both sides do not agree on the cancelling of the fight, does it count as a forfeit and an instant loss for the guild pulling out? Surely pulling out of a confirmed GvG looks worse on your “rep” than if you were to lose a match.
Second Law.

If you guys just want the point’s we can confirm 5:0 for you. No problem. But currently we got some internal things we need to clear. That’s the reason why we already changed the status “Available for GvG to NO”.

I won’t accept a win when we didn’t fight, even if the community feels as though a forfeit should lead to an automatic loss. We don’t want points on a site, we want fights. It’s all about testing ourselves against you, win or lose.

Yeah, we moved to Riverside to try and tick some fights off our list before ORBAGEDDON.
We’ve had a couple of unlucky rolls in the matchups last two weeks in terms of GvG’s. We were holding out for a BB/ER/Piken matchup, but alas, D-Von Karver and his matchup mashups haven’t worked in our favour. Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands.
[Scnd][RG][TUP]
I was bouncing around SM and spotted one of yours up top running around. Needless to say, it made me do a double take lol.
I just don’t understand the logic behind the GvG-critics.
Every guild doing GvGs (at least I know) , is playing WvW all the time.
But when they meet for 1 hour a day ( or god forbid 3 hours over 3 days) to do GvGs it’s destroying WvW? Are you sure? Really?Edit: And believe me, we would love to have our own Arena or battlefield, to not even interfere with WvW stuff these 3 hours per week
If you guys did it in the EB jp it would not interfere at all. You guys all refuse for some reason and choose to effect wvw negatively. What you guys call “gvg” is a poor game mode and the reason such a small amount of players do it, but more importantly is in direct opposition of the development of GvG creating preconceived notions toward what will one day be a really good game mode in GW2. The choice you guys have given Anet isn’t a choice at all it’s no longer if something will be done, but when.

YOU ARE NOT THE INVENTOR OF WORDS!!! lol
GvG’s, or ‘kill trading’, are interrupted enough at the windmill as it is. The EB JP is quite literally the home of trolls in WvW, so trying to get through a single round while having people AoE’ing us from above or from the sides would be quite literally impossible. Sorry to kill your dream flute, but sadly EB JP is a no no.

Best line ever for this “kitten Happens”.
No but in all seriousness, it’s a game. In TUP at least if someone doesn’t log in, misses a raid or misses a GvG – that’s life. RL > Gaming stuff comes up. If for whatever reason in my guild we missed our GvG leader(s) then yes I’d expect the guys not to go ahead with a GvG as there would be no one to lead. Just last week we had someone cancel on us a mere 4 hours before the GvG was spose to take place. It sucked and couldn’t get a replacement. That is life.
I have yet to use the “confirmed” button on site. As I don’t enforce a certain amount of time for my guildies to play or days they must be on, game not job. We have 3 GvGs this week, 2 tonight, will it be 20v20 ideally, but can drop to 15v15 depending on how many are on. I think the “confirm” button is not needed. People form contacts ingame and make preliminary arrangements as to GvGs. Remain hopeful and optimistic, don’t treat them as dentist appointments
Yet again the negatives get highlighted re: the site, rather than the positives. A GvG got canceled, it’s a shame but there could be any number of reasons far more important than a game.
As for forfeit, instant loss… Please don’t turn into caring about the ratings, while I understand your disappointment for missing out on a good fight – please all remember its a game and while being let down is unfortunate. It’s not the end of the world.
Mya are not that type of guild.
Same goes for middle of a GvG, kitten happens. Bet no one else has had their GvG leader have to rush off to go have a baby huh huh.

I may have to reinforce that it was the reasons for the cancel that caused such upset, but I won’t post them here as it’s not my place.
Second Law.
Oh my oh my… All I can say is that I’ll try to make justice to the whole thing on saturday, but its terribly interesting, vii sent both their victims on a crysis… rumors of disband on GH, Mya cancels all their appointments… really. Its like they cannot belive what happened or sumtin. Disbelief.
If no one cares about points and only good fights here, we got a problem… cuz someones lying. Regardless, forfeiting without a solid excuse will hurt your street cred as a crew.
The super week is the product of top guilds worried about orbaggedon, wanting to answers some Qs and have key matches before a possible halt of activity. It’s a unique opportunity with all those transfers and efforts. Crews should be wanting to take those chances, rather than worry about crap.
Playing more will get u better, not the other way around.

Hey everybody,
In the best interests of all involved, we have decided to move the GvG organizational thread over to the In-game events subforum instead of its usual home in the WvW discussion forum. The impetus for this change is primarily due to the ongoing, negative conflict between the WvW and GvG communities. We feel the hostility between these two groups detracts from both the GvG thread and WvW topics and requires a disproportionate amount of moderator attention.
The In-game Events subforum will be a good fit for the GvG organization thread, as it is an ongoing, player-organized in-game activity and therefore fits well into the intended purpose of that forum. For other related discussion of GvG that does not fall under the general organization thread, please use the Guild Wars 2 Discussion subforum.
