I can outrun a centaur
Kaleem: Lv80 T
I like the sound effects and voices and stuff… I also know that the voices are random from a list… but… I’m getting pretty fed up of hearing some of the key quotes like “seize the moment” or “I can outrun a centaur”…
Some of them I don’t mind though. Suggestion perhaps is to add/change them to something you wouldn’t mind hearing over again like “woosh” or “boost!” so it sounds like a sound effect rather than a memorable quote you may get fed up of…
Just a thought.
We need to adjust the PC chatter frequency so certain lines play less often. It’s on our to-do list.
Nice! And thanks for the reply
I have to admit though. I use some of those quotes as my catch phrases when I’m with my friends… its catchy…

Very nice to see any official response on these forums concerning things like this. Might I also recommend lowering the volume on some voices, they just come out of no where and are rather startling (NPC voices while doing heart quests, just out of no where).
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
“more Violets, less violence”
I love the sylvari theme but I swear I hear the same lines from them all the time.
I think the frequency of PC chatter is fine IMO.
Great! Thanks BobbyStein! It’s something that can get anoying indeed. But in general, good job on the writing!
I can run faster than a centaur is the most memorable one and guildies like to rage about it on occasion. I hear it 20 times a day probably.

We do this too, though.. For Great Justice! has morphed into us shouting ‘ForkittenJustice!’ on voice chat.
We do repeat some of the lines in normal fashion, though our own characters lines always take a back seat to Quaggan and Skritt ones, haha.
Hmm. Okay. I somehow tripped the filter, even though I wasn’t cussing. Guess they are afraid of you calling someone else dim-witted effectively.

I think the biggest problem comes when you have a skill or trait that regularly applies a buff. My thief gains Swiftness whenever she kills something, and boy, she sure can outrun a centaur an awful lot. :-p
The frequency is a lot more tolerable than it was in beta, though!
Funny thing… I was running away from a centaur… And it was catching up to me… I switched to Air and used my heal (when heal i get an effect depending on my element… air = swift) “I can outrun a centaur…” guess what… I outran it…
… Then I used ride the lightning assuming I would bolt even further away… nope… when backwards towards the centaur v_v…
(it died though …)

If you guys do reduce the player character chat lines, can you make sure “urge to kill RISING” still randomly comes up? I laugh every time
So, Borderlands 2 has this option, this is exactly what I need here as well. Tuned down frequency isn’t enough in my opinion.
Somewhere in a graveyard, there is a tombstone. I forget the name of the person, but the epitaph is “She thought she could outrun a centaur.”
Seriously, it’s in the game. Graveyard just east of the entrance to Divinity’s Reach. Look it up.
Clearly the devs knew about the memeness of the line.
the issue i have with sound is my character is male and i say stuff with a female voice sometimes or as a race that is not human.
also i had the impression that your character’s personality will be reflected on this stuff to, sadly it does not

While you’re at it, how about adding an option to disable it? No offense, I love the game, but I don’t really appreciate hearing these lines ever.
A High / Medium / Low / Off setting would be perfect. With high being what it is now. I cannot believe anyone would want to hear “I achieve things. I’m an achiever!” more than once per century…
If the system also reduces or removes NPC chatter when you have already heard that NPC say something once or twice without moving out of the area, but are not participating in the related activity, would be fantastic. That would solve annoying chatter while crafting etc in cities.

Nice! Will check this out! Someone should make a parody video about this (If you do, or see one, post link here please ^__^)

Yes, I also have this issue. I guess my male character is in touch with his feminine side.
Actually, the one and only thing I’d really like to see adjusted is crafting vendors. They seemingly only have one or two lines each and they repeat them constantly. When you’re sticking around crafting for 15-30 minutes, hearing “Ideas are like cream… good ones rise to the top” a hundred times gets debilitating.
I’d rather crafting vendors not have voice overs. Other NPCs aren’t quite as bad, but those are downright infuriating.

We’ve talked about either implementing a frequency slider or giving people the option to mute player chatter, but it all comes down to programming and UI resources. A few of us wanted it in for ship, but too many higher priority issues needed attention.
I will like more speech also differents.
(LX) Legion
I don’t mind the frequency so much, just there’s too few lines for the game to choose from, so it’s just repeating the same one over and over usually.
I think the female should also be able to say lines the male says, and vice versa. That would already double the pool.
Would be nice to hear my female warrior capable of saying “Urge to kill, RISING!” or “Eat my dust!”, for instance.
There are a few NPCs that seem to be stuck in a short fast loop. I would consider them bugged my self though.

The very thought makes me want to pull my soundcard out and smash it to pieces.
Bobby, I believe people are not complaining the frequency but the content.
Lineage 2 had characters say things on skills and no one every complained because they weren’t annoying lines.
For instance, “Accelerate!” would be great to hear on Swiftness but “I can outrun a centaur!” sounds like a bad joke that gets more and more annoying.
I know you’re now trying to find the quickest way to solve issues (which is good strategy during a launch), but I hope the “quick fixes” are temporary placeholders and will be improved to keep up with the high quality of the game itself.
As someone that’s played well over 100 hours, I enjoy the novelty. I do get the impression that I’m a minority, but I can often be found shouting, “This rose has thorns! Here they are!”
Cooking in Lions arch… shudders
I don’t even mind the “Seize the moment” line itself, but the way that NPC says it, grates on my nerves. Terribly whiney. I usually just turn my sounds off completely to ignore the little kitten.
Take heed! I haven´t taken leave of my senses..
Another favorite of mine. Makes med armor crafting in Hoelbrak a very silent affair, otherwise I´d rip my speakers out..

Yes! PLEASE add a frequency slider or the option to mute player chatter.
I’m very fed up with constantly hearing my character saying, “Is it just me, or am I amazing?”
Seriously? It just makes me go /facepalm and asking myself why my character is like this; these chatters are incredibly CHEESY.
Humans are just cheesy all around, you do know their /dance right?
Charr say pretty simple things where you say “I could outrun a centaur!” or “eat my dust!” my Charr says “Faster!”
“Gaining adrenaline!” also triggers when you in fact LOSE a level of adrenaline.
Oh yeah,
“Aaah! Monsters!”
“Eek! Ghosts!”
Therefore I may take some time replying to you.
I’ve played my Sylvari for about 15 minutes and I’m already tired of “I’m furious!”
"Gaining adrenaline!" also triggers when you in fact LOSE a level of adrenaline.
Ha ha, yeah. This cracked me up for a while; I’ve just kind of assumed my warrior has taken too many hits to the head. Now I’d like her to shut up and pay attention.
I get how folks can get annoyed with how often some of these are uttered by PCs, so a slider or option may be great.
“A rotating cog amasses no sporophyte.”
I hate this guy so much after leveling my tailor in Rata Sum to 400 xD

So now that the game is shipped, will this be prioritized? It seems like a small thing to fix.

If the fix is simply adding the slider, then it should be no problem. However the issue is more likely that a lot of these voices you hear are categorized under a different slider. They would have to go through every sound file and re-categorize it for the new slider, and then also program that.
“This rose has thorns”….I am so sick of hearing this.. and imtermittently my female char has a male voice..
My personal favorite:
“I achieve things. I am an achiever!”
Haha I love the corny/cheesy lines. I frequently will quote them with my friends. “I achieve things. I’m an achiever!” “You can never have too much treasure!” “For Great Justice!” “Fear Me!” “I feel….STRONG!” and of course, “Urge to kill RISING!”

I used to be able to outrun a centaur, but then I took a… oh, never mind.
“more Violets, less violence”

This one annoys the crap outa me. It’s cute but if I’m standing at my bank in the Grove for too long I start to bleed from the ears from its overuse.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
Never let a wrong ripen into…. shut it! I know already!
On a serious note I think the lowering the chatter would be better, since adding more dialog would mean a far greater cost.
Maybe “copy” some of the unique conversations and characters to a few more places of the different cities.
The repeat frequency IS annoying.
Crafting in Divinity’s Reach is getting annoying.
The Crafting stations are near a circus, part of the ambient sound of it is this guy with an annoying laughter, after a few times u REALLY have heard. It repeats quickly enough.
Then, the TP in Hoelbrak, near it is some drunk Norn.
I use the TP often enoug,h, and i really heard enough times what she sais.
Now i slide the NPC Voices and Ambient sound to zero when i am in Hoelbrak or Divinity’s Reach. And ofcourse i sometimes forget to turn those sounds on again.
So, a frequency adjust slider would be very nice yes!
“Smithing is thirsty work!” Yeah … the armorsmithing station in Hoelbrak. Admittedly, it doesn’t bother me too much, since I try to vary the locations where I do crafting/banking/trading. I can for e.g. not really stay in Lion’s Arch bank too long, because the kids playing behind it becomes a bit much after a while. “Monster!”
Something that does bother me a bit with the player call-outs, is that I sometimes get some random call-out of a different gender or race, without any other player being around. It used to be frequent on loading screens, but now, ever so often, I get some random call-out from nowhere. It’s close … sounding like it comes from my character.
Side note: Some of the responses in this thread is too funny!

If i hear about the waterclosets in Lion’s Arch ONE MORE TIME…
“This rose has thorns, and here they are!”
cringe
I’d like an OFF button. A lot.
I’d also love an “off” button! Preferably per character though, unless they can make the on/off switch register without you having to log out of the game and back in like it is when you change your audio language.
Last I tried it, when you change the audio language, your character’s dialogue and NPC dialogue is, essentially, “off” for normal game play (not sure about cut scenes). You’ll just see the NPC chat bubbles. All other sound, including character grunts, squeaks, etc, are still there, but spoken words are gone until you log out and back in again (could be character select? not sure), at which time you will hear everything in the language you chose.
So, if you’re being driven nuts by the NPC chatter or your character claiming she can outrun a centaur, just switch your audio language whenever you log in.
Not the best solution for me though, as I can’t stand my humans’ dialogue but I do like to hear my Sylvari male’s.
I wish I could increase the frequency. I love to hear them.
