Impending Significant Dye Changes
Since unidentified dyes will still be available as rewards and to sell do we think they will change the gift of color recipe or will it become incredibly expensive?
I think the only reason they didn’t remove Unidentified Dye from the game is because they are leaving the recipe as is.
Yeah, This is why I am not selling mine.. I had slowly been getting them in case I ever needed gift of color. Better safe than sorry I suppose.
People are saying it will tank in price after update. This is not so as both supply and demand are dropping so it will be inelastic demand like say, washing machines irl. high supply low demand high price. You will still be able to sell to legendary pursuers as that will not be changed. An unid dye will still exist just not obtainable everywhere and make laurels even more valued.

It will tank on patch day, as there will be a huge influx of dyes.
That influx will dry up though and with the reduced access to new Unidentified Dyes, the price will start to go up.
Dyes, be itspecific ones, unidentifieds, or crafted, will go topsy turvy until a while a after patch. But i would reckon that in half a year, when the mayority of pre patch supply is used up, we could have dye prices reflecting those that we have seen in spikes today.
If they dont change the recipe for Bifrost, i can see Unids stabilizing over 1g, just like Silver Doubloons have.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
It seems poorly thought out, and I suspect Bifrost was a complete oversight.
Delivering the information in a blog post (in whole or part is yet to be seen) is also sloppy. As with Bifrost I suspect this was also an oversite (as it not reviewed by J.Smith prior to posting).
It’s days like these that I wish I were unemployed.
I’m glad i don’t have your problems man. I’m 50 000 gold poorer then you and yet i’m satisfied with that i have in game. You still aren’t satisfied. Poor poor Vol.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

This is exactly what I’m anticipating.

I am pretty sure that they are aware of it, just like the issue with silver doubloons. They didnt change the vial of quicksilver, i dont expect them to change the gift of color.

oh yeah, I love how all the chef mats for dyes are going up. very happy.
I accidentally bought 100 bags of black beans one day. >.>
But now I need the walnuts. Drat.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.

I figured it wouldn’t take long once the dyes got bought out.
People are scared right now by the idea of unid. dyes no longer dropping and only available from the MF or crafting. This will lower the supply to match the lower demand but some people think that unid. dyes will almost disappear all together and people are trying to make a mad grab for them now either to unlock as many colors as they can or to invest in dyes as they think prices will rise higher than they are now after the patch.
This. Unid dyes would be rarer after the patch and after initial stabilizing.
Right they will be rarer …
But who knows how much so? Yes, Anet said they’d reduce drop rate (which I missed at first), but did they say if MF rate will stay the same?
I could be wrong and this be another silk/linen thing; but I’m gonna wait this out.
If I had the money to take advantage of others’ fears, I’d do it; but I’m not panicking personally until this change goes live.
The Gift of Colour has been confirmed to be reduced to 100 Unid’ed Dyes with the patch, so demand will be lower there.
But I DO think that prices for Unid’ed Dyes will stabilise higher than the old price, anywhere between 50s – 1g, due to their greater scarcity. Prices for identified dyes will probably fall due to reduced demand, and the various cooking ingredients used for crafting dyes will rise. (A good thing! Many of them were woefully undervalued.)

I think that this is the closest thing that we’ve had to a futures market and I’m genuinely interested in seeing how it pans out. That is, in buying a duplicate dye and unlocking it now, you are effectively buying an unid dye for april delivery when the patch hits.
My bear case on these rests on the risk inherent in assuming that the unids received as compensation will be sellable/non-account bound. If you like dyes and want a bunch, sure, this duplication method may be a way to get your hands on unids to help round out your collection. However, I feel like a lot of people are going to find themselves with a bunch of more or less unwanted and account bound unid dyes. Sure you can open them and sell the individual colors to recoup some of your loss, but so will everbody else You probably won’t be the guy who pulls an abyss.
Although it is still better than being the unfortunate futures speculator who finds himself suddenly stuck with a million eggs
Happy trading.

I would reckon Anet’s argument is this:
There will be significant game changes for unid dyes, so it is fair for them to make the adjustment.
There has never been any significant game changes for doubloons, so it is unfair for them to make the adjustment.
If Anet were to adjust silver doubloon prices on a whim, what kind of precedent does this set?
That means Anet will have to constantly change recipes each time there is a large fluctuation in any item.

I hope they don’t change it, I make some decent money on Silver Doubloons

Why the hell do we even care about Carrots anyway? Everyone knows that broccoli is healthier and cheaper pound for pound.
Stop spreading false news to pump and dump, Wanze. You’re better than that.

As a chef and sailor in real life, i shopped for carrots and brokkoli in over 50 countries and i have yet to visit one that offers brokkoli cheaper than carrots.
You might argue that real life comparisons dont count in tyria but technically i also sailed on a ship in Tyria as the Tallship pictured on the Frostgorge Sound Loading Screen was a photoshop job from a google image of SV Concordia, which was my home for 2 semesters.

To get back on topic:
I stared at that loading screen every day for a more than 3 months to kill Jormag and if it wouldnt have been for the red dots on the square sails (the original has the canadian red maple leafs on them) i would never have recognized it.
I wonder what kind of dye they used and how much carrots were sucked out of the economy to cook it.
Vol, your lousy attempts of derailing the last dye related topic on the BLTC Forum with brokkoli are laughable.

Well, well, well… seems the dye changes open a nice little portal for chef 500…
For the long term price of Unidentified Dyes I am going to say about 50% more than the price of the average t6 fine crafting material, which at the moment would make it about 60 silver. I don’t like to spend my laurels, but given the choice between spending 60 gold spending 50 laurels for dyes I will go the laurel option. It has the added advantage of having a guaranteed return as opposed to the crafting boxes. For someone crafting a legendary 50 laurels should be quite doable.
All this will have a small inflationary effect on t6 mats, but I doubt it will be detectable given current inflation there.
How confident am I with this prediction? Well, I had about 130 Unidentified Dyes in stock just in case I wanted to craft Bifrost one day and I sold my 30 surplus at about 50 silver, so not super confident, but I’m also reasonably sure that the price will drop below 40 in the first week after the patch, so selling at 50 seems prudent.
Frustrating that the change to the Gift of Color recipe was not released at the same time as the new dye system. I wonder how much of the panic buying was from players crafting or expecting to craft GoF.
For the record I have not bought or sold any dyes since the blog post.
They’re special! They got aspirations.”
