[merged] Mini Mr. Sparkles
I’m not really upset about the exclusive pet at an event – I wasn’t in WoW even though I did that thing where you hauled your kitteny-kitten to a certain spot at reset to get a kitten or flew in loops over egg spawn points. I always knew that there were a few I would never realistically get unless I wanted to try to spend real money on eBay. And that was okay. My collection was as “complete” as I wanted it to be and was able to get it and that was fair.
I would agree that they should put the “IRL Prize” ones in a different category of their own. That would make sense.
I admit, I don’t really see as much point in collecting minis/pets in GW2. They’re almost all just bought – so it’s either “I logged on the gem store at this time” or “I bought this with gems or farmed enough gold for it”. I can see why people would still collect them, but it took the fun out of it for me. I was happy to buy some pets – heck, I’d go as high as 50% – but ONLY buying them kind of killed it for me. There are some that feel more special because they were tied to a meta achievement or such, but they’re a small minority.

I agree, they are generally too happy to about releasing minipets through gemstore/black lion chests, but at least they have done so since release, so it’s not a nasty surprise like the case of Mr. Sparkles. I would love to have more minipets to earn through gameplay rather than buy 2 sets of the same minipets in gemstore for 1.000 gems and forge 3 of them with item X. But hey, at least it’s not RNG, unlike Black Lion Chest pets.
Only good thing about collection minipets is that you can sell them later with much higher price, more useful than legendary i guess, i still go for legendary!
Actually anet keeps crashing value of minis.

No matter how many times anet crashes the mini market, collecting minipets is still give you some profit I guess

No, not if they keep crashing it. How do you plan to make money on a mini that is forced never go to up in value by whimsical introductions of commonly dropping rare minis, shortly after they ramp the prices up by announcing the removal of the series 1 minis from the gem store.
There is no conspiracy theory about market manipulation by players.. only clear demonstration of it by ArenaNET, themselves.
Living in Australia, I just gave up on day one. We didn’t even have gem cards initially, so for many getting minis was just crappy as hell, and no one ever does convention visits here lul.
I dont see how to make money of minis. Most minis I own are worth less than I bought them for now. Add 15% tax to it…

True in most cases, but not all. Random example being the karka minipets. I bought my Mini Karka for 30g when it was a new thing.
I bought them when they bottomed out, but its one of the rare cases where there is potential profit with minis. Considering there are 160+ minis its a bad ratio.
To get back on topic, I guess the sad answer to it all is that Anet does not care about collectors. I know, I know, they can’t answer every thread. The one in the General Discussion subforum had over 10.000 views. A second thread was in the living world subforum. This thread had over 6.000 views, which is a lot for this subforum. Furthermore this particular one have been on the front page for a looooong time now. In my opinion that means they are not interested in explaining anything.
I’m disappointed that so much time has passed, but since no one from Anet came by, I guess it means we will see more of these minipets.
Game Over, completionists.
Or you have to go through a lot of effort to buy a code for mr. sparkles. People wanted 300g to 1000g+ for one so I just took the 300g offer and called it done.

That I would actually be able to live with. How did you find an in-game seller, and how did you make sure it wasn’t a scam?
I won a contest for a code (Thanks moosefaces), so I’m still collecting as well. Until the next of these at least. But that was simply lucky. If I could find an in-game seller, I’d be more comfortable with that.
I skipped Halloween. Probably against my better judgment. Last month we have 2 sets of 4 (2k gems) and now another 1k gems this month (which was expected). I don’t really like the looks of these minis so I stopped. Collecting in this game is very difficult. First dyes and now Minis.
kind of a different topic I suppose. congrats treeline on your mini, I know how bad you wanted him.
Glad to hear you managed to get one, Treeline.
Pls anet, just sell it in gemstore
Just throwing this out there, but why not make it an unbound item? Then the mini can be traded openly on the market and the true value of it in-game will be governed by its demand in-game. I’m a bit confused as to why ArenaNet decided to make this miniature account bound only and obtainable only through a couple conventions/promotions. It only promotes people selling the item on eBay and other online trading venues for real money – something ArenaNet ‘technically’ looses out on. (Since they wouldn’t be gleaning the 15% trading post tax values or putting another high demand mini in-game that people may purchase gems to convert to gold for.)
This would make it a highly desirable, but ‘technically’ obtainable item for anyone – assuming they have the drive (or cash to convert through ArenaNet’s Gem Exchange) to obtain it.
I certainly wouldn’t object to being able to sell any miniature. I doubt I’d sell my mini Liadri after what I went through to get her, but the mini Clockheart? Sure, if somebody wanted mine, I’d be happy to sell it to them. He’s a noisy kitten. >.<

My guess would be that their idea with Mr. Sparkles was to give a “nice item as a token of appreciation” without essentially handing people 500g ingame. In that sense, Account Bound makes sense. But when eBay is factored in, it doesn’t really mean anything.
Also thanks, KOPPER, Zaraxes
Can a dev answer us pls? Will be some way to get it ingame?

Request for answer seconded, but I’m losing faith on this matter
Apparently you can get the miniature of Mr Sparkles as a bonus for buying 4000+ gems with real money during december. Anet must be really desperate for money.
yap, i dont understand why they dont give it away to people for supporting them earlier the year, like the dragonbash minis or the kites months ago…
I really hope this is not true, as it’s a big punch to those who won them on gaming sites / attended to PAX.
GW2 need more exclucive items like GW1 had. This is really uncool ArenaNet!
People complained that it was only available through giveaways. If they want to give it away as a bonus for spending $50, that’s better than nothing.
Some people are willing to spend a lot more or even fly out to GW2 events to get one themselves:

$700
But after the flamekissed armor debacle how can anyone be sure they will let us keep him?
Listen, I enjoy seeing people gush whenever I whip out my mini during a fractal or whatever, but I think this is a good idea. It gives the collectors that were unable to attend the events a chance to get their hands on them. Spending $50 on 4000 gems, the mini, and a backpack isn’t a horrible deal in my opinion.
I would suggest not reacting to it until it is actually confirmed.
The only information I have seen that talks about this is a thread on reddit with a screenshot that can very well be home-made.
So until we get information about if this is legit or not I suggest chilling out ^^

Although the issue didn’t affect a lot of people, there was still a lot of disappointment that this particular mini was only available to a tiny subgroup of players. Expanding access to it is good customer service as well as a reward for showing support for the game. They didn’t have to do this, I find myself appalled by the lack of gratitude for the gesture on the part of some players.
Can we get official conformation if this is true or not and how this works?
Aww man. I just bought 8k gems on tuesday after the patch.
I wonder if i could persuaded support on this.
4000 gem gets you 238g btw
Dang how annoying. I just bought 8k gems on friday…
yep its really annoying. why they could not give the presents retroactively…

“But after the flamekissed armor debacle how can anyone be sure they will let us keep him?”
This isn’t even close to the same as the flamekissed T3 armor.
yes its more scandalous ;D
Soooo, buy 50€ worth of gems (~3x monthly subscriptions in other games) and get a mini?
How about NO.
Well if it is indeed true you don’t pay for the mini anyway.
You pay for the gems and then get a mini as a bonus.

how about u buy 4000 Gems, then buy things with it in the gem shop and get a quaggan back item AND a mini mr. sparkles on top?
it’s NOT 4000 gems only for the mini…
I see Arenanet’s need for making money, but everyone getting everything is plain stupid.
Some items should have it’s exclusivity, and this was promised when it first was released.
We can’t trust arenanet anymore, every item seems to be comong back at some point.
Even through i don’t have the mini, I feel disappointed.

I guess its the loud minority. I totally agree with you. I don’t think any people I know of mind this.
Here are just my 2 cents:
To be honest I am actually considering it. I get so much out of the game and spent the gems on whatever I want. I don’t see any problem with this.
I think it was fair for people who are not able to attend such events. I got the in-game t-shirt at Gamescom I don’t mind other people getting it if they spend a bit more on the game I like, and supporting the life span of my favorite game. I do feel special having such a rare item however I rather see more money going to the Arenanet so they may get higher budgets to develop content than me feeling special.
I play GW2 for fun, and I like others to have fun as well. I see some miniature collectors shaving less fun because they did not belonged to that tiny subset of people. At least now they have a fair chance on obtaining such item in a non risky way. (Ebay or flying to PAX and hoping that there are enough codes.) If they miss it too bad, but at least they had a fair chance.

When did they ever say the mini Mr. Sparkles would be exclusive to people who first got it? I was under the impression they had said the exact opposite – that it would be available again in future through other methods but they didn’t know what or when.
They’ve already given some away as contest rewards – I know Pink Day in LA was giving them away for pretty much all their contests and someone in my guild says he got one that Anet donated to an internet charity event as a prize.
But even so this won’t lead to ‘everyone’ having it, or even the mini becoming common IMO. This will almost certainly only apply to real-money transactions and 4,000 gems isn’t cheap, it’s about £45 which is the same price as a whole new game. A lot of people won’t be able to afford that within the time limit given.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Personally I think all in-game items should be available to everyone. Not cheap, quick or easy to get necessarily but it should be possible. For example it’s possible for anyone to get a legendary. It’s very expensive however you do it and will likely take a long time but you can do it.
Whereas something like Mr. Sparkles or the in-game t-shirt is completely impossible for most players to get because they weren’t in the right place during the very narrow window it was available. (Or in some cases were there, asked a staff member about special rewards and were told there were none, or they had all gone or they were being saved for later on/the next day.)
IMO this actually doesn’t go far enough because further on down the line the same problem will come up – players who didn’t know about this offer or weren’t able to afford it at the time (or weren’t playing at the time) will have missed out. Hopefully they’ll do things like this every so often so if someone wants one it’s just a matter of time and looking out for it.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Is this happening now? Or in a later date?
I’m usually typing on my phone
What does this dec sparkles mini comes in? Is it possible to buy it from other players? There should be alot coming in now.
Does this count for ’Muricans or just the Alemans?
