This game is nothing more than money grab

If they were completely all about money, they would have re released bunny ears and discontinued eye ware because they would make a huge profit off gems.
Gotta love the strawman arguments being thrown out here. No one claimed ArenaNet was a nonprofit or that they didn’t deserve to make money. Some people just pointed out that some things seem to be going too far, kinda like the Eve Online players rallying against a $90 monocle.
I simply pointed out that I didn’t think it was fair to charge me to use a skin I already paid for. Feel free to disagree but please do it without the ridiculous non-comparisons and name calling. You may think I’m wrong, that doesn’t make me greedy or anti-capitalistic.
But EVE is a subscription game where players are paying $15 a month to play. And don’t mention PLEX because all that means is one player paid $15 a month so another player could play. If someone is paying $132-180 a year to play a game of course they will get upset at $90 for fashionable eye wear.
We pay nothing if we choose. Yes we had to spend money to buy the game but so did EVE players.
So the Gem Shop boils down to stuff that everyone can buy like transmutation charges and stuff that are a lot more expensive (talking cash here). But fortunately is you are wealthy in game, even those items are “free”. It’s the players in between. Those who don’t play enough to earn enough in game cash to use the Gem Store for free and are cash strapped so they can’t simply buy the Gems they need that feel left out.
RIP City of Heroes

Whatever helps you sleep at night.
Yes, guild wars 2 is a cash grab, now what?
It is near impossible to please everyone especially those that hold unreasonable and unrealistic opinions. I would have to get every cash shop item w/o losing anything, but I live in a world where things companies need to generate revenue. The reason why people are mocking you is because you have an unreasonable and unrealistic expectation, I would love to live in a world where I get everything I want for free, but we don’t.

You do realize that prior to the Wardrobe Change, you wouldn’t even had the option to use it again, right? Anet made a change in the game to allow you more options to use an item you purchased with gems but you want to complain about transmutation charges?
BTW, there are methods in the game to obtain T-Charges without RL money costs.

And for level 80 gear the cost is now less than before the wardrobe. Yes, under 80 you are hosed a bit in terms of cost and free ones but overall the changes the wardrobe brought are positive.
RIP City of Heroes

Simplest method (if you dislike buying transmutation charges): make a new character, map-complete all the racial cities. Rinse and repeat. If you’ve got all character slots filled for the time being, purchase an extra as an investment – if you feel like you’re going to change your outfit a lot, the infinite transmutation charges are worth it. It doesn’t take long – DR and Hoelbrak are particularly quick and painless.
Can I claim a charitable donation if I buy gems? This is a not-for-profit organization right?

No. You purchased gems, it wasn’t a donation. Well, actually, after you deduct the cost of the gems, from the amount of the donation, you could consider the rest a donation. Please feel free to write off a donation of $0.00.
OP, you went full kitten.
I can tell you that.
Another player complaining a company wants to make money (OMG!!!111!!!!) besides the fact that Gems (or real money currency exchange) can be acquired by playing the game. Oh, what a surprise…
BTW, where is the OP to sustain his argument after the responses? Left? Oh, what a surprise…
Cash grab? Go play archeage or other f2p mmos if you wanna know what a cash grab is. In gw2 at least, you don’t need you or other people to use rl money to get any of the gemstore item.

Maybe he went to play another game.

I when to play FFXIV where a single patch content more content what GW2 been releasing the entire 2 years
Have fun with the ninjas (really, I am not being sarcastic, if FFXIV is your kind of game, have fun!)

Have fun paying the monthly fee! (and exaggerating in another game forum).

Heh, I would’ve gone back too, but the old-school geargrind, terrible queues, and even worse dungeon community really put me off. Pity. :\
And talk about “money grab,” geez, look at ArcheAge. Want something as simple as auction access? PAY UP. The game does all it can reasonably do to force you to subscribe.

You’re obviously entitled to an opinion, but I think it’s a weird use of terminology to jump from some items requiring a “start up fee + per-use cost” to “the game is nothing more than a cash shop.” The world is filled with things that require customers to fork out cash up front and then pay for usage:
- World of Warcraft
- Gym memberships
- Mobile phone (although other payment models exist, too)
- Copper-Fed and Silver-Fed Salvage-O-Matics
Are you willing to pay 3-500 gems more to avoid per-use costs? Personally, I prefer the current system, since I tend to change skins only a few times over the lifetime of a character.

Same here.
I do use outfits though from time to time. And once I bought them, they were free to use on any or multiple characters. I think that’s a pretty good value.
Average movie ticket around here is about 7.5-13 dollars for a movie that lasts about 2.5 hours. Guild Wars 2 is essentially free after your initial purchase. If you think that one of the skins offered through the gem store will make your experience playing the game more enjoyable, then you should consider the experience to cost ratio.
I would prefer the development team deal with what is unattainable like the Tribal and Rubicon armors. If you can purchase something through the gem store then you are still capable of purchasing those items with gold (converted to gems) which is essentially your time. Again, a time/cost ratio. Is it worth the time farming or and hour or so of your weeks pay?
Try Rift, Archeage, Tera or some other free mmo out there and you will see what is a money grab.
Plus your game won’t be that beautifull and optimized like gw2.
