Hi All,

Recently we spent some time discussing the concept of collaborative development with some of our community. The thread can be found here:

We talked about rolling out a new process in which over a set time period we can discuss design philosophies behind the main components of Guild Wars 2.

The first part of the plan is for you all to list the top three sections of this area of the game that you would like to discuss:

For example for WvW your list might be:

1: Leagues
2: Rewards and Progression
3: Commander Functionality

After a couple of days we will choose the number 1 topic in each area and then create the threads within the specific areas for us all to discuss, brainstorm and share our opinions on.

2. Add a debuff to a zerg of 40 or more within a 600 range. -33% movement speed/endurance regen
3. reduce skullcrack stun to 2 seconds
4. Reduce Siege dmg to players by 33%
5. Give rewards to players who defend towers/keeps but do not give exp/loot to players who man siege. (reward must be enough to compensate for this)

Iist format:
1. Leagues in a game format where victory is decided by coverage
2. Account bound WXP
3. Commander improvements
4. New Maps
5. New PVP formats outside of WvW
6. New traps or player built structures.

I’ll start. A nice opportunity indeed this is and I thank Chris and other ANET guys for taking time to do this.

I’ll follow that list you gave first. Of things I want to see talked about:
1. Leagues: When the game format of WvW is largely decided by a server’s WvW population more than anything else the leagues don’t make sense. They essentially reward the efforts of server guild recruiters more than actually playing in wvw.
2. Rewards and Progression: I’d like to see some consideration for swaying towards the realm of Account bound WvW XP and levels. It’s not to say that character bound isn’t fun. Its that I think that those who want to see account bound WXP see their account as their presence and not their character. They want to advance their account like in sPVP or Guildwars 1.

3. Commander functionality: I think there is room for improvement. Getting the tag is fine as it is. I wouldn’t mind the tag being account bound too. The /supplyinfo command needs to have a range of at least 600. I want 1200 for it. The problem is I need to stack everyone to get a head count and supply count and maybe 70% of people pay attention. Multi color tags would be an easy feature and would only help. I’d also like to be able to see the positions of allies on the minimap while I have the tag on. This can be either individual dots or markers for locations with more than 5 allied players in a spot.

4. New maps: IMO there needs to be a new map. Anything you can come up with works. I want new lands to conquer. Even if you end up making each borderland unique it would go a long way to making WvW more fun.

5. Format changes inside and out of wvw: I like the gvg arena that you’re coming out with. You can do some more with sPvP (bring back random arenas!).

6. Deployable walls and new traps: It would be fun if we could sculpt the landscape. Say like building a wall across the dredge tunnel or setting fire traps in forests. These traps need to be potent enough to be a threat. I’m talking about unblockable effects that ignore condition reduction effects when they’re used right. Fire trap in a forest is unblockable, spike trap in a grassy area is unblockable. Ice trap in a snow field… Water trap near a body of water.

My personal top 3:

1: WvW rank progression
2: Objectives for smaller groups

And in a bit more detail:

1) The current world experience ranks make it impossible to ever get to a completed state. This means that no matter how hard I try, I’ll always be behind someone who played WvW from the start. Because there is a benefit to having a high rank (more points to spend in WvW masteries) it makes me feel doomed to be forever less than the veterans. I believe a trait like system, with a maximum of points to be spend could be a better system than an endless progression. Any additional progress could then be fueled into titles or wvw related skins. Or perhaps refund points to relocate your WvW traits.

2) Capping camps and tagging keeps with a waypoint doesn’t feel very rewarding. And I’m not talking about rewarding in loot, but in a sense of accomplishment. I would like to see more things for small groups of players to do. Perhaps making it easier for a smaller group to take a tower, or something entirely different.

3) A change of terrain would be welcome. New tactics to try out, new spots for siege to find, or even just a change of atmosphere would do a lot to make WvW fresh again.

1. Getting people from higher tiers to lower tiers.

I believe this’ll fix just about half the things wrong with WvW (lag, matchups, shortage of fights, huge zerging) but kill WvW if left to continually worsen.

Until this is addressed, I don’t care about the rest. What good are rewards and achievement points or commander functionality on an empty map?

1. Alts, why can I be a diamond legend on my ele but only an invader on my other characters? Doesnt that defeat the whole purpose.
2. Match ups imbalance (mostly referring to t1 servers roflstomping lower servers)
3. Achievements improvements and better communication about the changes to them.

If you have a look at Realm Defender and Master of Disaster, both were locked due to people using supply to level these (must have a lot of time to do that…). Nowhere in the patches is there mention of these being locked, I reported this as a bug for several weeks. Just this week we get a reply “Oh yeah we locked those, no bug”

Thanks for reaching out to the community on this; a lot of people have felt a lack of trust towards the development team in recent months so this is a positive development.

Some things that are on most WvW’rs wishlists:

1. Commander interface. Even being able to change the color of the icon to one of your choosing would make a huge difference. Perhaps a auto /supplyinfo tally of players + supply on the top bar, polled every 5 sec?

2. Outmanned buff scales to ranking differences in the matches. Large population shifts can break this for ~1-2 weeks but the end result would be a net positive.

3. Adding achievements for a WvW season was a good idea, but by creating different leagues has destroyed the WvW communities on 1/4 of all NA servers. Unless you are willing to take more direct measures to deal with the WvW population (different than server population) differences, we would appreciate this idea not be repeated until a more balanced situation develops.

I will not mention GvG because in my personal opinion it should not be part of WvW, I think it should be a new game mode in sPvP. I have nothing against GvG indeed I love the idea but WvW is just not the place for it.

So my main issues now are:

1) Skill Lag
2) Commander tools, or please give us a guild squad tool, let us know where our guildmates are without needing to have a commander tag…
3) Rewards for the winning server, few people care about PPT nowadays, winning means nothing.
