Im all for grind dude..but grind is when you actually get what you came for. 4,5 hours without single shard is not a grind.
Your story reminds me of CoF (path #1) which I was trying to do yesterday.
My party fought with effigy for ~30 mins softresetting it for 3 or 4 times.
…1 hour of wasted time of my life…
atm Priestess of Dwayna is the hardest boss in the game for bad mechanic…. Yesterday we opened 4 5 topoc for her and no one MOD answered us :/
I even posted bug report because this was just not normal. I mean I have played this game a lot and I can see what is working as intended and what is not. We were doing the fight right but we were just not progressing in it.
You can easily figure out that something is not right. You are not supposed to fight a boss for 1,5 hour. Usually when you are doing something wrong in the fight you just die. In here we just kept fighting and fighting doing the same thing over and over again .
Priestess of Dwayna has some problem in mechanic…. need a fix….

Im never gonna get those 60 shards I worked hard for…
And one of our guildies who needs frikkin 15 shards for two days so he can buy his chest..and can never finish those paths to get even single shard is probably angry out of his mind.

I entirely agree with this … I mean, for the new shard system. Though I absolutely agree on the principle that we should not be able to farm them with speedruns, I find it absolutely unfair that if you spend countless hours in the dungeon but can’t kill the last boss, you get absolutely no reward (except crap blue/green items). What should be rewarded is not killing the last boss but TRYING HARD to do so, spend hours in the dungeon OR doing it fast because of a very efficient team. The main problem is, that way, it just prevents pugs to get any tokens, and force to have some prefessions in your party to kill this or that boss …
The basic idea was good, but the consequence is not so much
I also agree that they should introduce some system which would prevent ppl from farming the dungeon. (Dungeon cooldowns? Helloooo? Be able to do each dungeon (all paths) once a day would be good start.) But this was not one of the brightest moves from ANet part.
Nice to see there are some ppl willing to do dungenons 4+h. I actyally cant find people like that, most of groups disband.
I remember doing up to 9 hours in expert dungeons back in the start of Rift But its all about some reward..not to spend that time in a dungeon without any reward whatsoever.
