Ascended weapon drops in Dungeons.
Apparently they drop in Fractal and Maw + daily chests.

What are dungeons? Never heard of them but I’m currently busy pressing 1 during Lyssa Event. Good thing I still have a guardian.
What is an event? I only stand outside the bank in LA.
Moa Racing is an event.
I dont wander that far from the bank. The common folk must gawp at my impressiveness 24/7.
Why would you do dungeons with SaB around? Woah don’t you know minigames and crafting is WAY more important than ‘hard’ content such as dungeons!!!
I’m throwing whites at the mystic toilet because there is a rare chance at getting something better, that’s bloody compelling!

My friend pugged a ~30 fractal last night, he said one of the pugs got an ascended weapon. He said he could choose the weapon, but it had to be rampager stats. Is that how it works?

Might be true but until we see a screen shot it could just be a troll posting chat codes
The ascended weapon chests let you pick the weapon but not the stats.
Lol, so that’s completely worthless…
It should be the other way around, you might get stuck with a worthless item, but at least you’ll get the stats you want, I personally think that’s better than having worthless stats on a weapon you do want, because either way, you’re not gonna use it.

You would rather be stuck with a weapon your class is unable to use at all versus a weapon your class can use but has undesirable stats?
I like the way they implemented it. At least it will be something that I am capable of using.
With enough classes you can use any weapon.

The only weapon I could not possibly find any use for is the Torch, all other weapons can at least fill some role in any of my only 4 lvl 80 characters and 2 upcoming ones. They wouldn’t be very useful, like Rifle or Longbow, but at least they’d have the right stats.
If the stats are wrong, I wouldn’t possibly use it on any character, because a Cleric’s ascended greatsword is still infinitely more useless than a Berserker one.
So yes, I’d rather have an undesirable weapon than an undesirable stat, because the undesirable stat would simply be insta-salvaged, and never used, ever. At least an undesirable weapon can still fill up some function.

It takes away a very important choice, which makes it every bit as stupid as the fractal weapon drops, just at the extreme other end of the spectrum. You get to pick your stats but can’t pick your fractal weapon, meaning you can have as many Berserker scepters, torches, and tridents as you want.
Or, you don’t get to pick your stats but you can pick the weapon. Woohooo, come December I’ll have 8 Magi’s greatswords.
Idiotic.
Oh and to answer the original question, they can drop in fractals, and they can also drop from Champ boxes. But I don’t think they can be mob drops or chest drops in dungeons.
You ascend by fighting with crafting panel after setting your autoattack on and pressing alt-tab, not by doing something skillful.
Hope it’s fun.
PS. We’re preparing Tequalag just for you.

I don’t know about you but it seems to me there’s a massive failure in that concept.
The game is complex. Understanding everything about its dynamic combat system is hard. But more than this: being able to make strong instantaneous decisions, instantaneous reflexes, and prevail encounter after encounter, is a true feat of strength.
That is the meaning of having ascended, to me.
I am sure it is also what the minds behind the initial concepts of Guild Wars believed in. They made the fractals. It made sense.
Farming like a zombie and mastering the crafting table does not reflect that, in my very honest opinion.

Did you really take a picture of your screen with a camera? I’m not sure what to think
Does it matter what level fractal? Like would a level 2 work or does it need to be 10 or higher/

I see your point.
But maining an Engie, I’d much rather have a weapon choice because almost every weapon out there would be useless to me save a few.
But I get your POV.

Not my picture.
I forgot how easy it is for people to complain about anything on these forums.
When an exotic dropped, it was a weapon and a stat. You now get to PICK your weapon with pre-selected stat. Just be happy, kitten, and play the game.
I’ve had an Ascended weapon chest drop from the Maw daily at level 20.

And when you don’t need that exotic, you can salvage or sell it.

True, but you can sell the exotic and buy the one you want. You cant do that with ascended.
hard enough to make them cry, not just rivers but oceans."

At least you can sell a worthless exotic or forge it for a better one.
A Cleric’s Ascended Greatsword is more useless than a blue Berserker one.
TIL having valid arguments against stupid game design = easy complaining.

I have all 80s except for necro. I don’t care which weapon drops, I’d rather have useful stats than trash like cleric that I would salvage or vendor. (Can ascended weapons even be salvaged ? or can they be sold for a couple silvers to vendors like ascended rings?)
This system is incredibly bad. What was the big idea ? “we let them chose the weapons but most of their drops will have useless stats”? what?
@ Ethics
Bad exotic drops can be sold on the TP (except for the dumb FOTM ones) and can also be mystic forged (even the fotm ones can be MF’d). Mystic forging exotics can get you a chance at getting precursors. Ascended weapons are account bound and worthless crap. An ascended drop with bad stats is worth LESS than a rare drop by virtue of being completely, 100% useless, and you don’t see anything wrong with that?
(edited by Nikaido.3457)
If they would implement this system for the Fractal Skin drops, I am sure most of you would be excited!
Did you just compare a weapon skin that could be made useful just by using a transmutation stone on an exotic, which are extremely easy to get, versus a weapon that will never be of any use because when you craft the right stats you’ll be getting the same exact skin with just a different color? and where “crafting the right stats” means a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks worth of crafting.
The ascended drop system is worthless.
If they would implement this system for the Fractal Skin drops, I am sure most of you would be excited!
No, they’re both terrible systems, just on opposite ends of the spectrum. But at least the fractal weapon is just a skin that can be transmuted and thus made useful. There are 19 possible weapons and at least 12 or so of them are used regularly if you have all available classes. But of the 13 available ascended weapon stat combinations, only one is useful.
(edited by Broadicea.8294)
Not comparing the two. Just saying this system would work wonders for the Fractal weapon system. Everyone is always complaining about not getting the weapon they want.
Well yes, if you combined them it would be perfect, be it for fractal or ascended weapons. But instead we get the worst of both worlds. Because Anet.
Sigh. This whole ascended tier is getting messy. Not arguing about its purpose, if I have to guess it will be about player retention. But this weapon drop mechanics is so weird. I would rather they invent another currency token for weapons cringe.
I also find it weird that we have ascended trinkets but out of these only rings and backpiece are infusable. I am half expecting them to make some mistake and do a gigantic rollback or something…

Where or what did this drop from?

dude said it was from a champ box
Patch notes read anywhere that gives ascended mats/items for anybody who hasn’t been paying attention.
That would be champ bags, world boss chests, everything in wvw, dungeon end rewards, fractal ring/weapon rewards, mist essences (aka every enemy in fractals), jumping puzzles and other open world chests (lol wut) etc.

I had one drop the other day with settler stats (toughness/healing power/condition damage). Pretty bad for PvE, but rather nice for my wvw build for my engineer. I’m sure a lot of WvWers who run the odd fractal for rings would be quite happy with a knight/soldier/Valkyrie etc. weapon.
My understanding is that anything that awards ascended crafting mats can award an ascended weapon.
Off the top of my head, that’s the chest from killing the claimer at any WvW objective (it’s in the big chest). In dungeons it would be the end dungeon reward with the Empyrial Stars and any any champion loot bags. In open world it would be jumping puzzle and mini dungeon chests as well as word event loot chests (and champion bags).

You can craft exotic weapons. You can get exotic weapons as a drop pretty much everywhere. You can craft ascended weapons. You can get ascended weapons as a drop from many places, but not as many as exotics. Problem?

Exotic = soul bound on equip
Ascended = account bound on acquire
Yes, there’s a problem. You can’t compare the two because of this fact alone. Ascended weapons are a Trojan horse to increase BLTP purchases of transmutation stones….
My main is a Guardian and I don’t really play around much with other professions. Guardians are one of the most restricted professions in terms of the weapons available to them. I don’t think it would be a good idea to add the low %age chance of getting a useful weapon to our profession to the already low %age chance of getting the ascended drop in the first place.
I do like to play around with builds – as I’m sure many people do – so if I get an ascended weapon with certain stats, chances are I can find a spot for it somewhere in a build as long as its a key weapon for my professions.

Sword, Shield, Focus, Greatsword, Scepter and Staff are all useful weapons on a guardian (although Shield maybe a bit less). Moreover, you sound like a person who likes to ‘play around with builds’, which means that might mean a Mace build even. Add to that Spear and Trident for underwater.
So that means that you have 9/19 = ~47% chance of a useful Ascended drop.
Which is a lot more than I would say about useful stats.

Guardians use mace?

Yeah, I don’t get how anybody could believe that the Guardian is the most restricted as far as viable weapons go. Almost every other profession is stuck with one or two weapons they can optimally use and hte Guardian’s got a plethora.
I prefer Sword/Focus with a swap to GS, but I know some people like to use Staff to stack might before jumping in with Sword.

Accident… It’s more useful than Mace too..
So, 10/19, that’s little over 50% chance of a useable weapon drop.
Compare that to useful stats…
