We all know everyone and their dog is familiar with the term “Zerker”. But it’s really grating on me lately. The reason: because people are now also calling it “Zerger”. Pls. Pls. Call it Berserker. If you do, you’ll make Lilith smile. “Zerker” or “Zerk” is completely legitimate in limited character situations, such as LFGs, Post titles, text messages, or even if you’re doing all of this from a phone (I am, but “Zerk” is not in its autocorrect dictionary). But pls. Berserker. Say it with me. Berserker. Yeah. Like that.

Actually, if you started to use the “correct” term, it might also help clarify that “berserker” is a set of statistics for equipment and not a “playstyle” or a build.
Something that seems to cause quite a bit of confuzzlement every now and then. (Thanks for that word again, Lilith, btw.)

I always disliked the term ‘Zerk’. I am not a fan of those pseudo-1337 terminology that finds its way into every game. I always refer to berserker as berserker. Same goes with ’nades for grenades, oh I cringe. I always see 15-22 year old CoD-commerce-mass-market-players who never heard something about Doom, Dune II or Wing Commander.

The drift between different yet incredibly close sounds is a natural part of language. You’ll no sooner stop it than the tides.
Anytime I hear ‘Zerker’ I’m instantly reminded of Runescape and other turn of the millenium MMOs. Back when we still thought Z was apparently the most fascinating letter in the english alphabet, so we just started sticking it in the place of S’s where ever we could.
So everytime one of ya’ll mentions it, it doesn’t sounds like you’re saying you have Berserker’s armor, but that your dope armor is so all that and a bag of chips you’ll be rolling in mad phat cheddar.
If it makes you feel any better since yesterday I have forced myself to use “Zerker” to describe power gaming obsessed players who put DPS above all and forget timing or defense, and “berserker” for the actual gear and stat builds.
I guess it would be pointless to mention that there are actually things out there that you can’t burst down within a few seconds even in a full meta setup team but you can still fight in berserker equipment because of timing and active (that bit is important there, the “active”) defense?
I recommend trying out a few fractals like cliffside or swamp (if you get moosi).
Though I admit it might take some time investment to get to higher levels where this becomes more and more prominent.
