Blame the Guardian
Ok, this is a petpeeve for me but when people talk about who does the highest dps without context it annoys the kitten out of me. In a PUG warrior is most likely going to deal higher dps because he can self buff himself with might. In an organized group where you get 25might then warrior does less.
Wynd Cloud | Fierce N Licious
So let’s get this straight – you think 12,000 damage over 3.5 seconds is higher DPS than 7,000 damage over 0.75 seconds.
I’m not talking about DPS. You wanna talk dps now? Okay, the DPS on guardian is way less either way you don’t see it because you’re not accounting the cooldowns, the number of moves meant for damage, and how the damage gets delivered. Those three are completely different on both classes, which is why warrior deals more damage, maybe you should look into that. I’m going to cease replying on this thread since everyone wants everyone to shut up.
I bet warrior is the highest damage class too, and the best groups are either 4 warriors and a mesmer, or a guardian.
I said keeping peeps alive. If you wanted to do damage as a heavy, you should have gone warrior, not guardian, fix yourself please, and thank you.
Very nice,
try to explain the same thing to the people, who asking for a Berserk Guardian (LFG).
try to explain that thing to the people who play Guards like Warriors, i.e. no removing conditions or buffing the party.
To all new Guards my advise as “old” Guard, PROTECT the party, use your skills, WoR is a tool u need in most dungeons (like CM, SE), dps is not your priority!!
I think this thread has gone full videogamermike.
Anyway I like playing my guardian. I’m not very good at guardian. When I miss an obvious wall placement or forget to slot SoA, I get blamed. But I have to say, my screw ups are usually always blamed on the necro, ranger, engi, or mesmer in the group. In that order. If none of those classes are there… then they’ll blame the guard ^^
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.

You compared the damage of two skills and claimed one did 12,000 damage and the other did 7,000 damage. I informed you of the cast times of the skills, and asked you which one deals more damage. To save you the trouble, your whirling wrath on its own had a DPS of 9,333 and your hundred blades had a DPS of 3,428. When I compared the DPS of autoattack chains on guardian and warrior, I got 3,402 with guardian GS and 3,448 with warrior.
I can’t even remember if that was with unscathed contender on the guardian or not – but the point is this:
Scale up the damage to account for 25 might, 25 vuln, banners etc. and you’ll get pretty similar damage. Guardian pulls ahead if it has unscathed contender – the advantage with warrior is that if you are in a group incapable of buffing effectively, it can sustain 20+ might stacks with signet of rage, for great justice and forceful greatsword – when you allow the guardian to get the same buffs, the damage evens out. So basically – a guardian without unscathed contender does around 900 less DPS than a maximum DPS warrior, so it ’s not “way less” damage at all.

don’t h8, we did a 3-hour dungeon tour with 4w1g, you just roll your face over your keyboard and easy mode every fight :p

You follow/read a guide, you don’t bother to confirm and just follow it without question, you don’t know in-depth details about classes, and you make claims like you know things without evidence.
You didn’t even calculate the rotations (which you cited). Take your own advice and stop spreading misinformation sheep.
Got kicked a little while ago during a really bad fractal run. I whisphered the host for an explanation and was told my AP was too low. With my build I try to balance a fair amount of DPS with support, so I have in the region of 2k AP. Is that really too low? Tbh, I don’t know how I’d increase it without nerfing all the support aspects of my build, e.g. Purity of Voice.
Sorry for sort of derailing the thread.I believe the host referred to your Achievements Points being too low, which is a rather inefficient way of filtering members. You are probably thinking he referred to your attack. In fractals as in all dungeons, there are better builds when your aim is for the run to be smooth and quick.
In such builds, support is achieved differently, please check them out
Ahh, Achievement Points: I always forget about them.
Indeed, a stupid metric.

Please don’t speak that name. If Scooby shows up, I’m blaming you :P

Now there’s something we can all agree on.

Gear wise, as a guardian if you know how to handle each encounter your gear should be berserker. PVT is for players who can’t yet manage dodge and blocks and Cleric is for players who think that a healing guardian really helps the party survives (killing monsters also helps the party survives).
Utility skills and Traits (even more now that you can switch them whenever you want) should depend on the encounter.
But if you play a guardian only to do a lot of damage or….to “heal”…you picked the wrong class.
Party wipes
Warrior 1 : kick the guard
Warrior 2 : wait there’s a ranger, kick him first
kick ranger
Because Necros and Engis could never be in a team, they would be kicked waaay before starting the dungeon, as a measure to prevent wipes :P

But one thing I must say, dumb noobs love to blame guardians. More than once I had warriors in team dying at every half step coming up with sentences like “wtf guard HEAL IM ZERG, NOOOB!!!!!” A sad true story
