Citadel of Farm speed runs not for newbies
Don’t worry, it’ll be given the CM treatment very soon once enough people farm it.
I’m betting on the Arah3 treatment myself.
Even though I love those 7 minute runs, path 1 definitely needs a do-over.
I played CoF story for the first time last week and I was really impressed. That final boss fight had some of the better mechanics I’d played against in GW2 so far. Inserting him in there somehow could make the path a lot more fun and challenging.

You DO realize Gaheron is the endboss of CoF2 as well? Death was merely a setback.
The final boss has some interesting mechanics with the crystals and everything, the issue is that it’s usually quicker and easier to ignore the crystals and just DPS him down, that and even back when it was a lot harder to DPS him down people still did it. The reason being that he spawned a ton of crystals and he spawned them very frequently, to the point that he spawned them faster than you could kill them.
They should make it so crystals also give him armor and power in addition to regeneration (I know after 66% they give him might but this is again negligible), similar to how lupicus gets massively stronger after each grub. Basically buff the hell out of crystals effect on him. Then make him summon them less often so it’s actually realistic to clear the crystals.
They should put a door in at the part where they’re trying to execute crea irontooth so that you have to kill the mobs on the bridge before it opens, similar to arah path 3 with the door before the first 2 bosses.

No they shouldn’t.

Yes, they should. Picked up a couple of PUG, they just ran after the bridge pulling also the champion in the room with the 2 ads and the imps spawned by the flame shamans near the turrets. Never wiped in that room before that and you just need 2 more minutes to clear the bridge. -.-
Yes, they should.
No they shouldn’t. But they probably will. No farming allowed. No dosh allowed. The gems must flow.

Wonderful tale chap, but your one single terribad experience in a PUG of all things does not imply the entire path is kitten.

Never said that, I was just stating that skipping the bridge often makes the next part only HARDER with a possibility to have you actually LOSE TIME instead of gain it.

Only if Ferrah acts like a kitten and pulls the two casters when you’re already killing those other guys.
This is actually one one of the funniest paths because it is quick and easy. Not every dungeon should be difficult and long. Knowing anet, this will be nerfed soon so make up while its there.
So sad that rewards in this game suck balls that we are forced into a single path to make money
Yes! No newcomers should be allowed to do CoF. It has now forever been determined a speed/farming dungeon. Anet needs to put up a sign out front that says “No nubs allowed” And they will be instantly killed if they have less than full exotics on.

Actually not about gear/class/traits/lvl etc. or DPS to a certain extent (since u do need a fair amount to out DPS path 1 boss), its about knowing how to clear the dungeon. Newbies tend not to say that it is their first time and when its time to stand and stay within the pillar’s AOE to open the gate, they do not understand what to do. Some still do not understand even after attempts to explain. I didnt mind doing that for the 1st two months of release but when PUGers read speed runs on Gw2lfg.com, they should have knowledge of the dungeon since the majority of us nubs are there for the daily tokens/easy and fast gold.
If you have certain criteria that you want your groups to meet, then specify them when forming/joining groups, and reject/leave those who do not meet those criteria. Simple.
Not wanting to sound too antisocial
Nah, you’re fine there… but you do come of as the elitist type. Something about informing players on how they should play and all, pretty rough.
I respect that you love your speed running stuff, but at the same time you should respect the fact that this game is meant for everyone to enjoy. If some people need time (or want to spend the time) to complete a dungeon, then let them be.
It’s this kind of disposition that ruins the game for the rest of us. We’ve gotta work on this more. I think one of Anet’s biggest goals was to really bring people together and having fun. That’s not seen very often when you have segregated groups over speed-clearing/skipping/time saving versus “other”.
There are way more new people than veterans. If you run a dungeon pug a lot, you end up with a lot of newbies. I don’t mind teaching, but some days I just want a quick run and to get in and out. The day teaching newbies starts giving me gold for my legendary , you can all queue up and I’ll teach every last one of you.
Yes, people do not understand that we want to do this dungeon quickly. I get so many scrubs in Cleric/Soldier/whatever gear joining my speedrun groups (and the GW2LFG comment is usually “WE ARE SPEEDRUNNING THE DUNGEON MULTIPLE TIMES MAXIMUM DPS ONLY”) and they get super kitten when I kick them. One guy today spammed me for like 30 minutes straight kittening about how I must be a LoL and WoW player and how I’m apparently a tryhard for not wanting to carry him through the dungeon so he could get free cash and tokens.
Incidentally, he also kept me updated on the progress of his own run, because apparently it was important to let me know that he was capable of doing the dungeon without dying over and over. I think he finished his first run around the time we were starting our fourth.

I noticed this wasnt the case for COF until recently after the new year. And I am not an elitist gamer; far from it. I dont mind finishing COF path 1 in 15 min or less (my definition of a non-farm “speed run”) with soldier gear warriors/guardians or no heavies (simply because none of my levelled characters have heavy armor although they are stacked with full berserker gear) as compared to a 5-6 min 4 warriors and 1 mesmer.
while i am still a noob for that CoF dungeon, i expected myself to pick it up after 2 times through. setting my personal bar for info retention helped a lot when going in without my guild once. i still died numerous times in there, but i was not totally oblivious to how each section of that path worked, which made it look like i knew what i was doing, i just wasn’t good at surviving the process..
thankfully, that group did not kick me, and i pulled my weight as best i could. sometimes i randomly ask “do we pull to door?” or “run past?”, because you can never be too sure what the rest of the group is going to do. asking these types of questions makes you retain the processes and shows that you know something about what’s going on (like on Magg – with the 1-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 until finished tactic) even if you dont survive it.
