I think the fact the the Trinity is not in use puts a lot more pressure on other group members to fill that role. You are responsible for managing your own health. You are responsible for making sure that the boss doesn’t kill you. You are responsible for helping bring down a boss. As I’m sure many people can attest, doing all 3 of these WELL at the same time is extremely challenging.

If you’re having trouble with organization, that’s not Arenanet’s fault. Hell, if you want to run a tank/3dps/healer setup you still can, though it may not work all that well. If you have a group of 5 people that isn’t organized, it’s perfectly natural for it to be a train wreck compared to a well-organized group.

And Arenanet, please don’t listen to this guy and think what you’ve done is wrong. It’s definitely different, but not wrong. I’m struggling just as much as the OP is by the sounds of it, but I love it! It’s going to be a long time before I master this game (if I ever do…), and am able to successfully take down dungeons. Compared to the 15 minute facerolls of a certain other MMO, I love this!

Even if you had the holy trinity GW2 dungeons are messy until you have a clue as to what to do. One of the smoothest dungeons run I ever had was one with 3 eng 1 warrior and a thief.

As you do more you get more understanding how your skills work against boss X. you learn when you should use your skill and when to change to another skill set. For example the spider in AC. Man her poison sucks. So when I go in I switch you condition clearing with the exlir gun. it is my self imposed job to clear conditions and drop turrets that will aggro the spider. Later on I will switch to DPS to clear the mounds ASAP.

Changing out your skill sets is the beauty of the game.

ArenaNet, I would just like to voice that I do not want anything resembling the trinity thrust back into this game. Please do not implement any of the Gankfest (haha) ideas to “improve” dungeons.

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback here. The fact that the “holy trinity” is not necessary anymore may be disturbing but with a bit of organization, team play and coordination, dungeons are really doable and can bring you some fun.

I personally tried it and to be honest the first dungeon was just cataclysmic but now it gets better and better, and it’s really a good experience as well as a good entertainment. I think the best, at the beginning, is to do it with players you know and try to elaborate tactics depending on the professions you are playing.

But it’s just my opinion

The problem is, you have ele as healer, warrior shield as perma block tanker, and other classes as pure dps.
I do not see the marketing purpose of trying to reinvent the wheel since clearly, even in this “trinity free” game ppl do better with “trinity” playstyle, tactics are crap and gameplay is enforced for u to play like som random idiot running around all day dodging which makes it less effective at killing monsters and less coordinated aswell,
The current system adds no benefit to the gameplay nor it makes it more interesting to have it uncoordinated, nor it increases your players base, if all it just sends them away to other mmorpgs, Anet needs to realise that, and start bringing back the monk class, having all roles do nothing specifically is not going to help the game with anything at all.

I think the issue is AC Story is by far much harder than AC Exp. In fact, why are the Story modes always harder than Explorables? Look at CM and TA for example. The only Story mode which isn’t ridiculous was Arah Story Mode.

“Ghosteater (Next to Butcher) is by far the easiest dungeon, completable in only 20 mins, rewarding over 40s due to bosses always dropping silver!”

Man I wish more Mini’s dropped silver like AC does. Don’t think the “Mini bosses” w/o a chest in CoE drop them but I really don’t look.

So your bad at math… Thanx for the info!

Anyway, I did Arah path 3 last night Explorer mode and it was terrible. For the first boss we pretty much stood on the spiked ball on the siding and kill the first boss, which I’m pretty sure is considered exploiting because he can’t hit you; but everyone assured me it wasn’t. After he was downed we killed the other guy with the Devastating Hammer Bash. Was so easy a 3 year could dodge his attacks. Looted the chest and nothing useful in there.

The second boss was easy to get too, we just ran past everything, did some shortcut stuff and we were there. It was a mage type boss that didn’t really do anything devastating, It died without even trying and the chest again had nothing in it useful.

I got an Abyss Dye off a mob on the way to the 3rd boss, making the dungeon somewhat worth while at this point. We only had to kill a few mobs to get to him. This boss was easy. Just stack on p1 and kill the worms and maggots, p2 just range and dodge his AoE’s, p3 was no problem unless you got trapped in his melee attack that knocks you down if you try to leave the area. Other than that another Fisher Price moment brought to you by Anet. On top of that if you die you can just keep running back which just ruins any kind of challenge. Again he dropped another chest with nothing useful in it.

Getting to the last boss was not a problem, we just ran past everything again and easy enough we were there. The last boss was just lame. Just sit in the circles until the bar fills up and the ritual phase is over, and then spank the boss down. Again nothing useful in the chest.

So in conclusion this took no skill to do whatsoever, and nothing useful drops out of the dungeons besides the Abyss Dye that I could of gotten anywhere.

It was easy to see how everyone’s tinfoil hat theories on threat could be easily dis-proven. I don’t see Guild Wars 2 making it far in the PvE division without any real end game content. PvP isn’t doing to good at this point either.

My feedback is that for the most part, we need bosses to do bigger, longer tells when they are doing 1 shot uber powers, and some way to avoid being destroyed. Things like Frost’s spray, the frost sprays in HotW and the flame throwers in CoF makes melee unfun and needs to be tweaked.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

running dungeons with pug is like shooting ur self in the legs while u trying to run.

I don’t entirely agree but I do notice that your pug should consist of mostly lvl 80s and at least 1 guardian otherwise you’re asking for a auto-disaster.

dungeons are fine but too short (excluding Arah) and absolutely with no reward whatsoever.

Except of course, the high EXP, the karma, sellable drops, a decent amount of coin, dungeon tokens and fun, right?

Lol… So like having a bunch of causal dungeon gear which takes no skill to get

You’re complaining that the dungeon is chaotic and hard, then you’re saying that running a dungeon enough to get what sounds like 2+ sets of the dungeon’s armor takes no skill?
Riiiight.

is suppose to make someone an expert on the subject.

Moreso than someone who ran just one dungeon, got angry and made a complaint thread? Yes.

Most dungeons don’t require moderately bunker’d builds to kite. For example, I run dungeons pretty often with my wife, friends and PuGs while on my Necro, and much more often than not I’m using my dual Daggers, not my Staff. You just have to gauge what bosses you can melee and what bosses you can’t. It’s meant to shake things up so that some bosses allow you to play in your comfort zone and others make you move around more.

Hoopa doopa.

Congratulations for doing the easiest path of Arah after it’s been nerfed, Gankfest :p
I’m surprised people even bother exploiting the first boss.

What tinfoil hat theories? It’s fairly obvious that threat in this game can be handled, though perhaps not in the way you’re used to.

And it’s not because a game, or an aspect of a game, is nothing for you that it’s bad or that the people who enjoy it are idiots
(Not saying dungeons are perfect, some are bugged to hell and really need looking at, others are “Brb, grabbing a smoke while auto-attacking”, and a few are fun and challenging)

I would have to agree with Gank here. The holy trinity was a much more stable system and has been proven and tested. People who complained about the holy trinity are just those who didn’t have to skills to do their part. GW2s trinity (which I will dub as the “Chaotic Trinity”) has no real foundation as to what determines even vague roles. As someone who holds the Dungeon Master title all of the dungeons are a complete joke and an insult as an MMORPG and YES it is defined as an MMORPG

I really enjoy the GW2 style of gameplay. It actually tries something different and bolder than the tired old holy trinity. If you want that style of gameplay there are hundreds of other games you can choose from that stick to that formula. Sure the new mechanics aren’t perfect by a long way but that will only improve with time. By now any gamer worth his/her salt will have played holy trinity style content to death over numerous titles. Why on earth would you want to crush something innovative and engaging and take a developmental step back? You don’t like it? Well that’s tough for you, but hey, you have plenty of other games to choose from that will satisfy your need for the trinity.

I think the OP is better off sticking to the other games that follow the trend he enjoys rather than coming here and trying to change one of the few MMOs that tries to be different. That’s what an intelligent, reasonable person would do. Anyway, I suspect that if he is as clever as he makes out he already knows the devs would never change the core mechanics of the game in such a drastic fashion now. However that does make me wonder what he was thinking when he decided to make this topic in the first place.

I think there needs to be some changes in the dungeon. Make mobs easier to kill and less kiting. I just started doing dungeons few days ago, been running AC. And ALL the groups I team up with both guildies and PUG always run/ignore pass mobs and head straight for the boss/event. It is really frustrating as for first timers who aren’t sure of the map, or have few speed boon utilities, they lag behind the group and usually end up dead. Worse still is when you die during boss fight and have to run back pass all the mobs.

In short, mobs are really a pain in the kitten to kill and lot of pple are just ignoring them and running pass them. Is this what the devs have in mind for their dungeon systems?

Aggro is random… Nuff said! if you wanna argue the facts and base everything off your own made up systems then knock yourself out. The problem is you have nothing supporting your claim because it doesn’t exist. If you want to keep trolling my thread, have fun with that too. What ever helps you feel better about yourself!

Aggro is not random. It is also not based on DPS like it is in many other MMOs. You can do a ton of DPS and still not pull aggro. Aggro appears to be based on toughness rating and proximity. On my DPS Warrior…the Thief in my regular Dungeon group was often pulling aggro but he wasn’t doing the most DPS. I respecced my build with 30 points in Defense and upped my toughness so that it’s the second highest in our group and now the mobs mostly focus on me and the Guardian. Bosses are a bit more random, but not terribly so (granted I have only run through AC, CM, TA , SE and CoF completely so far—dynamics may be different in the higher level ones).

I’m not trying to discredit your opinion, as you’re explaining your personal experience and my experience won’t change your opinion necessarily. But the holy trinity really bored me because there is no challenge at all to it. I used to watch television during raids in WoW, just to stay awake and alert. I like that GW2 has more moving around and action to it. That doesn’t mean that it’s your cup of tea, but I suggest giving it another go with some regular friends. If you’re running them with people you normally play with, you might find the runs more oganized and fun.
