Yea, I didn’t see the reason for that change either.
Not to mention the fact that they’re all immune to Blind, which just makes everything a lot more annoying and time consuming to deal with.
Got to Ice Ele on our 2nd map of lvl 28 yesterday.
Everyone in the group had 20+ AR I believe (I have 30) and while we all got hit by agony many times it wasn’t so much that we couldn’t survive it, the biggest problem we had is missing the lava pour a couple times and he would instantly heal back to full without us being able to interrupt him.
We couldn’t decide if it was bugged, if you can only use daze to rupt his heal (we didn’t have at the time), or if they changed his skill somehow on 20+
I recorded a video to observe his patterns after hearing about the changes. I’m not sure if this is the exact case or not, but he seemed to do his AoE agony after his ice shatter move on the ground. After the second or third shatter of the ice, he started his instant AoE agony attack. Though the video isn’t that long, it was about 1:31, and in that time he did it 4 times. 3/4 times it was after the ice shatter. 1/4 it was after he kneeled to heal.

My guildmates just wanted to try it, 4x 0 AR ( and me 25 AR), they all did it up to Lv 8/9, so they knew the basics (pre-patch). We tried it for about 1 hour to kill the Ice Elemental. This is just ridiculous.
You have to start with something to get your rings/ back and infusions (if you don’t want to farm Laurels…). The lowest is 10. Some got ONLY hit by agony and couldn’t heal enough to stay alive.
It should be fun, to be able to learn, how to survive, its just plain stupid, to KILL everyone at the beginning. It might be not unavoidable, but everyone has to be perfect reacting in less than a half second.
Please everyone employed by ANet, if you can prove, that a group of you can kill the Ice elemental on difficulty 10, without AR, I’ll stop complaining about anything.
Just add a 1-5 sec animation, and make it dodgeable, so you can learn how to avoid it.
Maybe next time, before you patch something like this, let your playerbase try it, add a “try new content” or something. I’m sure there are many out there who would love to try it and help you fix it.
And at very least, please please say/ post something, are you looking into this? Do you want everyone to spend 100g/ a month farming for ascended gear?
If thats the case it’s farming, not fun. Being killed (at some point) in FotM is not skill-based-progress.
You can still seperate Rabov from the trash, you just have to pull the trash now instead of Rabov.

Seriously though, I investigated this when I arrived this morning and have pinpointed the issue and am working on an active solution.

True, but every time you do that you also have to take care of Rabov’s veteran. And the higher level of fractals you run, the more waves of trash you’ll have to beat, hence the more often you have to beat Rabov’s veteran.
That’s probably my main concern with this change, that it didn’t neccesarily increase the difficulty but just made the whole process x-times longer.
We did also encounter another bug when fighting Rabov. We tried seperating him and the veteran by having one of our team-members fight the veteran outside the room while the rest would take care of Rabov. Eventually Rabov switched aggro to focus the team member outside of the room, went after him, then suddendly dug himself in and respawned with full health.

played level 10 in a pug earlier. 2 guardians, an ele, a warrior (if i remember correctly) and a thief. we managed to pull rabsovich and his veteran to the gate, away from the rest of the mobs who stayed behind near the mining vehicle. i think we pulled everything initially but after we killed the trash mobs, the next “wave” spawned near the vehicle and didn’t come near the gate where we spent some time slowly chipping away at the champ’s hp.
the ice elemental was harder than pre-patch, but we managed with only a few downs. i had 0 ar myself (not sure about the rest of the party) but only went down twice when i kittened up my buttons. me and the ele basically provided constant regen and additional healing on top.
the aoe agony is certainly not dodgeable (unless with luck) or blockable, and i cannot comment on what it is like at higher levels, but lots of healing and regen seem to help at level 10 even with 0 ar.
Good to hear this is getting looked into. I did this yesterday after the patch lvl 10 with 0 AR. We tried Rab the old methods and then tried pulling him out of the room where he just resets. But interesting insights about the respawns by the cart. So I guess you can pull Rab to a corner to keep from getting add waves.
We did the ice elemental and wiped once. Just wasn’t expecting agony to be so wicked at level 10! Geez. This is the level at which you just start to get chances at rings. Anyways we finished him on the second attempt. I was voted to work the levers and nearly downed many times. Null Field helped but its on such a huge cd. Maybe I need to start bringing regen food or look at my build to compensate for the harsh agony.

I’m not sure as I haven’t encountered him since the update. However, as William stated, the bug is apparently fixed.

This update has fixed this issue.
There’s a new issue. The previously visible AoE radius of the bombs thrown by the Dredge Boss is now invisible. Also, the bombs explode a lot faster than before (I’m not sure if this was an intended change or not).
On another note, I’m not sure if anyone else have experienced this or not, but Jade Maw is also placing invisible skull on top of people’s head.

make new patches with new content = fix a few minor previous bugs, get a new hole full of new ones… I for once wanted a game that had not bugs or at least with most of them fixed instead of having new content.. but that’s just my opinion
If you are close enough the rocks around and the camera is looking downwards to your character, the skull graphic occurs inside the rocks that you cannot see(You can see it if you manage the move while the graphic inside rock)

This update has fixed this issue.
Just did this on level 10 and the complaint from earlier about doing this on level 10 with a group with no AR still seems to apply, we found it impossible with multiple overlapping red circles where even 1 was enough to 1 shot us.
