Fixing Swamp Daily Problem
Most of the time people do different fractals for the first two tier dailies. Usually 2, 10, 21, 40 and the 2 dailies, only repeating the swamp if one of the others is the daily. However due to the horrid scaling of toughness in the 51+ fractals, no one wants to spend 2 hours doing 1 fractal for kitten all reward, so they do only the swamp fractals. Anet needs to fix the toughness scaling and rewards (which they will do sometime in December).
People will always take the path of least resistance. Thats nothing new. As is, the horrid toughness scaling just is the icing on top. Even after nerfing this, rest assured people will keep running
- Swamp – very fast
- Molten Boss – fast too, but insane toughness/vitality atm
- Jade Maw – very easy
Adding in random tripplets of daily fractals would essentially have the system work similar to how fractals were in the past. It would reduce the accessibility for a more diverse gameplay experience. I’m fine with that, not sure many more casual players are too though. I’ve said this in the past, I miss the excitement of getting that super smooth run (Swamp-Ascalon-Volcanic-MB), or the power through of having Swamp-Cliffside-Taumanova-Mai Trin pop up.
No matter what arenanet decide or how they decide to change fractals. They should always keep 1 thing in mind: no matter how much you nerf or put blocks in the way of players. There will always be an “easiest” way which people will aim for. Designing around this is the art. Not nerfing or fixing things left and right. Not to mention that their fixes usually just endup leaving stuff even more broken. Poor Mossman will have to returf his roof after the last few weeks, after having to take a deep breath from swimming so much or having his bridge destroyed and his tree stomped into the ground.

I’m not a big fan of groups solely doing Swamp to get the daily runs, as it detracts from running others fractals, save for the Molten Boss fractal. While I don’t have a problem with people who only do the recommended fractals followed by swamp runs, it makes it harder for those of us that want to play more diverse fractals from getting groups.
So…let me get this straight. You want to prevent others from playing lazily in order to enable your own laziness?
The easiest fix for this is properly reward scaling fractal end chests and not altering the dailies at all.
If people want to run swamp and duo all the time just to get the dailies out of the way, that’s fine, but those same people tend to complain about the lack of mist essences. This is by design. Increasing mob drops in general, and chest drops relative to the length of fractals would create a better relationship between time, difficulty, and reward.
I think people should be able to do fast fractals just to get their dailies done, but a swamp and dredge shouldn’t have basically the same amount of encryptions in the end chest.
Conversely, adding an optional old school run mode might work. Have it start at a random scale and run three fractals, and have the random scale reset daily. This would prevent the old exploitation of rerolling swamp to always be first, and offer a fractal option for people who want to embrace that randomness.

I think the 1-20, 21-50, and 51-100 should be a selection of ~5 fractals to choose from, that you need to complete 3 of to pass the daily. That way it’s not too rigid if you get a BS instability + fractal combo, but actually presents different challenges daily, like it seems like fractals were meant to be.
Reward system in 51-100 is a joke. The end chest reward for each fractal is bad. No wonder people only do swamp.
Anet should have reiterated like the 2 others steps.
Add two dailies with really good loot chances for an ascended chest possibility (10% not less) & good monetary value.
One for a random fractal between 51 and 75, the other for a random fractal between 76 and 100.
Hide the 51-75 behind fractal mastery lvl 3 & 76-100 behind fractal mastery lvl 4.
Now we have an incentitive to play something else that swamp all the time.
PS: fix that spot in mossman swamp.

I think they must implement another daily achievment. Something like do fractals 4, 5 and 6 and you get 3 chest from the recomended fractal. The fractals you must run will be increment like the next day will be 7, 8 and 9. This way people will have to play all fractals, the rewards will be more and people that want to progress in their personal level will find groups more easy when the daily will be his personal level.

I tried lfg today and it was frustrating. Any group I could get into was basically doing a paint by numbers run of swampland, then leaving. I don’t even know what they gain from that.

My recommendation would be that the daily fractals change to completing three different types of fractals within the particular level (1-20, 21-50 etc.). That way it would encourage people not to repeat fractals for dailies (as the dailies currently guard against) and to do different fractals. Sure, I understand people will still want to do the three easiest fractals, but it’s still more diverse than doing swamp repeatedly. Thanks for reading!
P.S. Some smaller changes I would champion for would be for a separate 50-75,76-100 daily, fractals counting towards daily completion (as wvw and pvp do), and a title for completing the Master fractals achievement (completing every fractal from 75-100).

It would not be removing content. Swamp would still appear below 50. But unless anet can actually make swamp difficult, I see no reason for it to appear above 50. Same opinion on Swamp and 75 and Molten Duo over 90.

Players, especially in MMOs will go towards the path of least resistance. That doesn’t mean it’s enjoyable for them or well designed, either.
Your rule #21 is too broad to make sense. Anet “forces” players not to exploit because it’s damaging to the game. I know what you’re trying to say but I don’t think it’s reasonably to apply here. They have 20 some dungeons and there’s even less variety played than before FOTM updates, which I think their goal was to stop people rolling for specific fractals. They need to look at it again.

Your solution is no solution. All this would cause is for a new “swamp” fractal to emerge. Most notably the one that is easiest/fastest right after swamp. We have two contenders, Molten Boss and Jade Maw.
Are we going to remove those 2 aswell from 51+? What about the next fractal that gets run? What about future content? You are basically adding a lot of limitations of a short sighted nature, without addressing the actual problem.
