You’re making an incorrect and fairly naive assumption. I, as an example, have one of the many I want already after countless runs, but I’ve still got many more to go and innumerable more runs to do to get the ones I want (staff / scepter). It has nothing to do with “I got it that way so you have to”, but it has everything to do with “When I get the one I want, it’s going to be the greatest day of my GW2 career and I’m going to be incredibly happy”. That feeling of happiness is part of what makes it all worth it, and part of why RNG bonus skins like Fractal skins are great.

I made a post, a long time ago, about how this game punishes teams/friends playing together. How one member of a regular party gets almost 1 ring per fotm run, while others haven’t had a single ring drop in 200 runs. Unfortunately, Anet’s idea of a loot system is simply terrible. Giving drops to everyone, they HAD to make the RNG very bad, otherwise everyone would’ve had everything quickly…

In most other MMOs there are better loot distribution systems, bosses drop loot and the whole team rolls for it or (better) decide who gets the next piece in some other way. Organised guilds/parties or simple groups of friends can do this, ESPECIALLY for account bound gear that is also non-salvageable (like rings and fractal skins), where would the harm be if I get a dagger skin that my buddy wants (and I hate) to give it to him, while he can give me something that I might want. It will change absolutely nothing to how much players play the game/do fotm or whatever, won’t harm the economy the least bit, I can’t see ANY disadvantage to this, if anyone can think of something, inform me please.

TL;DR Anet’s loot distribution system is terrible. Parties/groups should be given the OPTION to change to a more fair system, if only for Account Bound, non-salvageable items, Rings and Fotm Skins, so groups or friends can share those among themselves during a run. Make what people get from the fotm reward chest (skins/rings) available for the group to “roll” for and each member choose what they want, of course this should be OPTIONAL.

The rest of my post did say that I understand having a goal and more of a long-term investment type thing. I prefer something that you make progress towards. If it took 100 pristine fractal relics (not saying that’s what it should be, just giving an example) that would be fine, because every daily you did you would be closer to getting what you wanted.

Right now you could get the skin you wanted on your first run, or your 1000th run.

Before I’d kinda prefer a system where you could get the skins easier, but nowadays I kinda enjoy the rng even if it’s crap sometimes… because if I could obtain the skins easily someway such as buying them with pristine relics or w/e then I wouldn’t bother with fotm anymore once I had all the skins I wanted.

So in my eyes, a system where you can buy the skins with a currency has its good sides and bad – you finally get the skin you want, but what are you gonna do now? more fotm? why bother when you can buy the skin you need/want etc etc.

Maybe it’s just my view of the whole but I kinda feel like the skins are what keeps fotm alive atm since rings/relics are so easy to get and we all know how most gw2 players tend to get bored once they have what they want and scream for more content which Arenanet can’t or won’t push out because they’re working on 1000 other things at the same time.

Is it too much to ask for a fractal focus on my Bday? Been after fractal skins for 5 months and still cant get a focus when everyone else seems to get it easily. For heaven sake its an offhand which drops so often for other ppl but I cant even get one. So sad……

It’s okay, I currently have half a dozen hammers and my friend only wants the hammer. Meanwhile, my friend has half a dozen scepters, and the scepter is the only thing I still want. Just the luck of the draw; keep at it and you’ll get it eventually!

I just want one fractal skin. At this point I don’t care what it is.

Do you run 48 or a lower tier? I literally haven’t had a 48 run in weeks where no one in the group has gotten any skins.

I do 28-38-40. The problem with 48 is time and group. Im the only person in my clan who is 20+ fractals. So I must group with pugs and I have seen so many fails at 44+ that it isn’t worth the trouble.

20-28 and 30-38 have terrible reward ratios for Fractal skins. You can get them there, but the likelihood is much, much lower than 48.

If you’re good and do your FotM runs evenings EDT time, I’d be happy to take you along on my runs of 48. What class do you run?

My guild group is up to 28ish but quickly rising. Sometimes we only have 4 on so I’d be more than happy to run with you. I’m a mesmer, and the rest of my group is two guards, an ele, and a thief. The thief brings his warrior sometimes but he’s not high enough to run at 20+

Just hit 400 runs on my Explorer tab.. i have 26 rings Total, and 3 skins.

1 Longbow, 1 Mace, 1 Spear.
I want a 2 Great swords a Rifle, Shield, and Scepter

I’ve run Level 28, 38, 48 for many months got two skins at 38 and one at 48

The higher you go up the more likely you are to get skins but also more likely to spend hours trying to finish a run.

I run a 48 every night, and have 12 skins so far (5 axes, bleh)- and I’ll continue to run 48 until I have every last skin I want.

It’s important to me that fractal skins remain a mark of fractal prowess, which is to say I’d hate it if you could buy them on the tp. I know it’s not perfect since somebody could just run their very first 20 and get a great skin (I even saw this happen once), but on average, I do think that having lots of fractal skins equipped is a sign of an avid fractal runner.

That said, I wouldn’t mind at all if they started handing out fractal skins for free to anyone who so much as laid a foot in the fractal lobby… IF they offered an alternative way to show off fractal-ness. Like a title for getting to personal level 50, or a title to go with running 500 fractals, etc.

I got the trident a few weeks ago and was ecstatic! I was hoping for it for a long time and finally got it to finish my Ele! =) however I see your point Nikaido, a lot of people want specific skins and water weapons can be discouraging. I know it’s easy to give up and be frustrated, but keep at it! It’s a game after all. I personally love how elusive the skins are. I do like some of the ideas for a Fractal Skin vendor, with high costs like 50+ pristine relics, and then some more, however if it doesn’t happen, that’s fine too. Fractals is fun, and the bosses are much more enjoyable (to me) than any other dungeon. Grawl shaman will always be my favorite boss: so much coordination, and personal survivability required.

The RNG should stay exactly the same BUT you should get a fractal claim ticket rather than a random probably useless untradable weapon.

This is getting way too much been at doing 3 dailies for kittening 5 months and I still cant get a focus. Last bloody one week not even one skin. So stupid that frens of mine have 5 focuses and I cant event get one. Swear the guy who came up with this rng for fractal skins if a freaking kitten kitten

It doesn’t really sound like anyone is complaining that “a” skin is difficult to get. Its the fact that the chance of getting “the” skin you want is so small, and that chance never increases no matter how many times you do the fractal. Run a bunch and slowly collect random skins you don’t really want, and trade a handful for the one you do. Won’t conflict with tokens. Will still reward doing higher level fractals more than lower ones. But most importantly, it still gives a reasonable goal that you can make progress towards, rather than the whole skinner box “maybe this next run will be the lucky one in a million”

EDIT: And for a simple way to implement this, just make all fractal weapons salvage 100% guaranteed into some account bound token (lump of fractal ore?), with a new trader that takes X of these in exchange for a new weapon of choice.

I was thinking you could throw 4 fractal skins in the MF and get pack a fractal ticket. Which you could take to the vendor and buy the skin you want. The recipe wouldn’t work with transmuted items.

Also, everything would be account bound.

Any alternative to acquiring skins for people who have run 500+ FOTM’s would be a welcomed one!

Has any Anet officially posted on one of these ‘Fractal Skin Drop Rate Failure" threads? Curious what they’re saying about it if anything.

Anet wants FOTM to die.. they don’t want us to do FOTM and they will most likely Nurf it again sometime soon to make it even less attractive to run, at the moment i’ve given up playing FOTM until something changes.

Fotm is dying and i’m leaving this game soon if nothing happens to the only challenging dungeon in the game!

I would agree to this alot of my ppl I know have moved away or cut down on fractals. Guess what they also started leaving the game of playing much less frequently cos there is not else that provides good challenge and good loot.

From the ppl I know Anet already lost 4 ppl who bought so much gems, that anet had to lock their account and ask them for some form of authentication before they allow future purchases.

Sadly they gonna lose a few more soon if nothing is being done. Previously each time the server reset for a new patch the loot dr resets. OK for ppl who think there’s no dr, then lets say the loot gets good for a while and there are more skins drops.

However no such thing is happening this time. I at around 24 to 27 runs without a skins already. Of course this is a combination of 28, 38 and 48.

Losing my patience here.

They just need to add a token like everyone has stated. Either it be a rare drop from the daily chest or by throwing Unwanted FoTM skins into the Mystic Forge for one. I ran 48 everday for 2 months, received skins, but never the one I wanted. I have 2 bank tabs full of tokens..sigh

I use to have 3 Different groups I could run 48 with, now none of those people will go. The RNG burnt us all out

Just to add my own experience. Today I just reached lvl 80. I literally did hundreds of runs, most of them being daily runs at lvl 26 – 48. I think I have bought a dozen rings with my fractals relics, and got around 20 lying in my bank. What did I get from the daily chest.

A trident. A – Single – Trident – Skin. Nothing else. Nada. I am lucky (lol) that I don’t really like any of those skins really much… but knowing that I’ll be able to get one would be really nice.

I m dropping some loots at 38-4X recently….

Still awful at 28….but considering what people write here they could have just thought that 28 is easy….

Where the real thing is after 26 it changes almost nothing aside AR requirements….

Ill be honest here too. The skins are nothing like a legendary yet seems more rare to obtain one. The skins themselves are not that impressive like legendary’s either – they just have a nice trail behind them when they move.

Yet they are this rare ? I thought GW2 was about having fun, grinding endlessly is not fun to me.

I agree with others: let players use prestine tokens, just set the cost high.

I’m very lucky lately because for last 6 Fractals, got 4 skins, I can not reveal my secret, but the level that most falendo worth doing is level 38, level 28 because the probability of skin is lower, level 48 can be long, so now I only level 38.

still no dagger/sword….i farm 1-4 daily since launch….i have many skins….200+ pristine, about 100 shards and stuff….

I also put all my rares in forge and i never got 1 precursor….i think rng gods hates me <.<

so i am poor without skins and no chance at legendary…

Haven’t had a single skin (or even a ring) from any 48 or 38 in a long long time. Yet a friend of mine gets them regularly, it’s getting beyond stupid at this point. ANet is losing players over this and still they don’t care enough to make a simple fix.

it’s just skins. I think at 48, it should drop every run. why? it’s account bound+RANDOM LOL. at 49+, you could have more than one drop.

I’d say it’s at least slightly hard for the majority of ppl playing this game. it also takes a lot of time compared to every other skin(maybe except legendaries, but you can buy those with rl money so..). and what else are you getting for getting to 48 really? greens? lol.

Guess they were listening, done a 48 today and got the greatsword unfortunately I hate it… Guess I’ll never get one of the skins that I actually want.

I would like to reuse this thread to posts the lvl of the fractal where we got a skin.
Maybe we can find out a few lvls where we got most of the skins.

I am lvl 40 now and got no skins in 3×. But 2 skins in 2×.
(Scepter and Torch. But, I want Dagger, Shortbow, Greatsword, Staff, Speargun and/or Spear)

I thought, higher level = higher chance. But maybe I am wrong.

At 48, % becomes significantly better just to show you its related to level.

Onthe other hand seems focus is ultra rare…also ultra ugly…i’d never use it if i dropped one.
just noticing as really few people have one.

The more time passes the more 48 becomes harder btw :/
Mostly because they are full of unexperienced players that rushed to higher level due to the easy access to AR.

i have, and 3 guildies have one or more.
Its actually the best fotm skin….

For the drop rate issue.
Really try 48.

If you get past the awful and unpleasant experience its nowaday, you will notice droprate is fine at 48.

While i agree that under that is really low :| somehow.

The harsh part is after 350 dailies all i wanted were 2 daggers and i have i got to the point i hope to not drop a skin if its not the dagger that still i have to get.

Mostly because i don t want to salvage them and they take bank space :/ but i have more than i will ever want……except the dagger.
