Fractal weapons
So wait – running a dungeon for 1001 times, getting tokens each run until you collect enough so you can buy a piece of armor WAS REVOLUTIONARY, UNIQUE and NOT A GRIND?
I’m… Speechless…
This is a good change indeed. WoW did so many things right, and this was one of them. Or it wouldn’t have 14 million subscribers at one point. So many years down the road, it’s still the most played MMORPG. Case closed. If YOU don’t like it, well that’s YOUR problem.
Sure it’s a grind. It’s a grind with logical progression, with tangible goals and guarantees that the work you put in will give you the items you want.
No, this isn’t a good change. If WoW does so many things right, go play WoW. Stop trying to turn every other MMO out there into WoW.
It IS a good change. It adds a suspense factor to the game play and makes things more interesting. “Logical progression”, as you call it, just bored so many people to death that the ANet guys had to change/tweak their initial system. And it’s a good thing they collect data and respond to it accordingly, there might still be hope for this game (if they continue to do so).
Now, I WOULD go play WoW but I don’t want to spend the cash on it’s money subscription. If GW2 manages to surpass, or at least reach the WoW heights you can bet your butt it will soon have 15-16 million ACTIVE players (if WoW managed to have 14 million with the monthly sub).
The people who want to play WoW are already playing WoW. Making this change will, I guarantee, significantly reduce the GW2 population. If we wanted a WoW (read: horrible) loot system, we’d play WoW.
Cosmetic rewards for dedication is fine. But let them be something your class can use T_T
Just did fractal level 28 last night. I’m an engineer.
I got a fractal dagger.
I guess it’s nice that it’s a dagger large enough that an Asura can hold it and be seen, but…
hey, could you upload an image of it?
Finally! DROPS! Thank you. Hopefully it’s a chance-to-drop system, not a 100% guaranteed weapon drop?
Edit: oh, and please, rework your existing dungeons with the implementation of this system in mind. Makes things so much more fun and worth doing. I hate the token system.
Not sure if sarcastic or Anet employee.
Seeing that the only thing that matters in Exotics are the looks, I wouldn’t mind a “chance” to drop for Fractal weapons. Cosmetic stuff should be moderately rare and should require a certain amount of grind for those that seek it, while those that give a statistical advantage should have various means to acquire them. For instance, the variety of back pieces you can get by either evolving a Fractal Capacitor, or using Mist Essence and some T6 materials for a book or quiver. While the Fractal weapons should be drops of some sort, just consider it is one of the few things to show that you actually made it pretty deep into The Fractals. If anything, Fractal weapons are treated like some of the rare-skin weapons in GW1, like the Zodiac weapons which were only obtained from the Elite missions in Factions; and Celestial weapons — items that are actually rare and sought after by collectors.
However, since the rings can only be acquired through the daily chest, there really needs to be some other “reliable” means to obtaining them. Tokens are the obvious method, but for those who end up with rings with undesirable stats for their build, maybe one couled trade-in the unwanted rings for something desirable using the Mystic Forge. For instance, I would dump the unwanted ring, some Philo stones, a few Ectos, and a bunch of T6 materials in the forge and get something more desirable. Those who are lucky to get the right ring the first time still feel happy about it, while those who got “crappy” rings could at least find a way to make it “un-crappy”.
At the mean time, I’m only using one of my Ascended rings just for Agony Resistance. I don’t like the stats on it, but if I want to live through Agony, I gotta use it. It would be nice to have a ring that suits my build however.

All of the new weapon skins are Account Bound. So you can choose which character to send them to.
There is also a change going into the current chest given exotic armors and weapons that will make them Account Bound and Soulbind on Use. So you can send those extra armors and things you get to your bank for your other characters.
Not a huge fan of the exotic drops being bound at all. I’d rather they be soulbound on use and thats it. Those of us that are not dungeon handicapped can get a full set of exotics for alts in a week or so. For those that can’t run dungeons it would be nice if they could buy them from the TP. I salvage them for ecto’s and it feels like a waste.

Only takes me a day to get a full set of exotics >.>

Uh – aren’t chest drops already account bound? I find that stupid beyond belief, but whatever, it’s your game to mess up. Making them soulbound on use is just nerfing the chest drops even more.
At the very least, all these items need to stay salvageable so we have some hope of decent crafting material drop rates.
my only problem is, WHY IS EVERYTHING SOULDBOUND OR ACC SOULBOUND, what is this stupidity? I have three rings i don’t use nor will use. Leveling up in deserted zones (as it is right now) will never make me spend tones of time making an alt, so, what i’m supposed to do with those three rings? YOU CAN’T SELL, CAN’T MYSTIC TOILET, NOR SALVAGE…. what’s up with that? I will be spamming fractal until another dungeon comes out because old dungeons are complete waste of time when you already have token weapons/armor month+ ago. So, that means i’ll get multiple frac weapons that i can’t even sell, wtf!? Why don’t you let us make money by selling rare weapon skins, TP is there for a reason.

I’d rather delete the items I don’t need than buy more bank tabs. You’ve got RNG and gear treadmill. I vote with my wallet.

So that’s what suddenly makes exotic items from the fractal end chests automatically account bound. And I already thought it was a bug. So whatever interesting drops in the fractals can only ever be had by grinding fractals, and to get, for example, the weapons skins you’d have to go through the entire threadmill including ascended gear and getting deep into the fractals. This means getting a specific fractal weapon skin is near a legendary in effort, except that you will have to spend most of your time doing the same thing over and over.
Totally not a grind.
To be fair GW1 also had these grind-your-life-for-a-skin rare weapon drops, as long they are just skins I don’t have a problem with it, would be nice if they could be sold though, instead of being stuck with a rare valuable item you might not like the skin of.
Maybe instead of having the weapons be a random drop maybe a tokenish system could be implemented. What if say every 3 or so dungeons in a row you would get a voucher and after 10 or so vouchers you could exchange them for a weapon. Of course it would be in fractals 30+ or so, so people would still have to do higher levels and work for it but this way you could choose which weapon you wanted. I see that Anet wants people to use their other characters more (that’s what I’m assuming from the comments I’ve seen) but I don’t think it’s fair to, in a way, force people to get weapons they don’t want so that they can give it to other characters (whether it was intentional or not, it kind of feels forced).
Today, a group member of mine got the shield in level 20. It looked really nice.
Anyway, I don’t see a problem with how they are now. I’d rather keep them rare.

They are indeed a drop chance, not a 100% chance.
Dropped by a random mob, a champion, or the daily lv30 reward? Just to be clear, because most groups just skip all the skippable possible, not killing anything than the boss, on most fractals.
- Daily bonus chest possible reward for fractals 21+.

Jade Maw chest, not the daily one I believe.
I was in a group where someone got a fractal rifle… a unique and flashy skin!
I want the greatsword! :P
The bonus chest (from the Jade Maw) is a daily reward based on the “tier” group your fractal difficulty was in. “Tiers” being 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, etc.
You can only get the bonus chest once per day per tier (per character).
Also, jealous of the Covenant Carbi- *Fractal Rifle drop.

I preferred being rewarded tokens to buy weapons and armour. I can semi tolerate things like rings being RNG as long as they can be sold for those people getting doubles.
I would really prefer gear to be bought with tokens, please. The whole reason I hate WoW raiding was the unfairness of drops and rolls. I love the way the rewards in the current dungeon work now that they include karma. Maybe a bit more tier 6 mats dropping and more rares but other than that it’s great.
I don’t want to have to GRIND a dungeon to get armour/weapons I need or want without a guarantee I can buy it with tokens.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
yeah gw1 was so bad with 100% chance of getting gold/unique items from dungeon chest or a number of them, with every single item in game not being soulbound
What the hell? Now I have reason to hate everything about Fractals.

He’s right, the token system sucks kittens.

“Suspense Factor” ??
Are you high?
There’s NOTHING fun about doing the same dungeon over and over and over. NOTHING.
Adding a random chance to get a rare drop doesn’t make it any more fun, it just means that some people get the great reward for doing it once, some people get it for doing it 100 times, and some never get it at all.
At least with the tokens system you had an end goal in sight, you knew how many times you would need to do the dungeon to get what you want (less times now that they added bags of wonderous goods).
With RNG drops you literally have no end in sight, you’re just waiting after every boss kill to see if you won the lottery.
It makes ADDICTIVE gameplay, sure, skinner box technique has been used in WoW, in Casinos, in Slot Machines for years, works perfectly, keeps people playing for sure.
But is it fun?
This basically encompasses my feelings on the random drop chance. It was something WoW’s done for years, and shouldn’t have any place in this game.

I got 2 fractal weapons ( hammer and shield) on the same day. Once on lvl 20 and once on lvl 30.
For some reason has anybody had something similar that if u get some kind of drop at dailies for lvl 20 then it’s most likely you will get one at lvl 30 if done on the same day? Cuz I got two rings (10&20) yesterday and now 2 fractals (20&30). Coincidence?
I had a frac trident, account bind. =(
Well this will suck, 2 guildies of mine run fotm dailies pretty much together every day. At about 20 T2+ daily runs one has 8 rings, the other has 0. And that’s just the daily for the necessary rings to progress in the dungeon.
Honestly the grind is slowly making this game feel more like a job, rather than a fun experience. I’ve already accepted i will never have a legendary, and as RNG becomes more relevant I’m sure the interest in returning to the game is going to quickly fade away. At least the token system gave me a reason to log in and do a couple dungeon runs on a busy day.
