General Dungeon Discussion Thread - Part 1
I’ve been told people learned how to kill Lupicus in ways involving swimming.
All is vain.
If that’s a player attack it should probably be Comet
Time for a quiz.
Who can tell me which attack this is?
Ray of Judgement.
Oh wait, wrong game.

And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

Since i can’t open topics and general discussion is full of idiots anyway, i would like to start a discussion here.
What would you change in dungeons or what would you want to see in the future?
My top 2 things would be:
- Less dependency on NPC’s. They screw up so much things up.
- Little to no time gating. 4 minute long whackamole isn’t fun for anyone.
+1: A bit of off-topic, but why guardians have reflect? Isn’t this punishing style is more fitting to mesmers and necromancers?
Less dependency on NPCs? Either remove the hellspawn they call NPC completely or let them be bystanders which don’t attack anything and don’t get target.
In total, I want a lot to be changed. Starting with the SE3 clowncar, going over to HotW to buggy Arah-bosses etc.
They’d never give Necro anything which would make him more useful in terms of group support.

AC Path 2 Detha : “Ohh you guys are trying to fill the trap without aggro’ing him, how about I bring him to you. What are you doing guys ? trying to get out of combat, I’ll bring him to you”
Every single tactics to defeat that boss start by letting Detha die, or killing him on purpose.

Varra in Arah p1: “Oh you want to leave those Risen alone? Too bad, I brought every single Risen in Arah with me.”
Randall in p4: “LEEROOOOOY J…” Breaks aggro “LEEEROOO…” Breaks aggro “LEEROOOOY JEN…” *Breaks aggro". And if he doesn’t do that, he tanks Lupi.

First, it fits guardians because it’s a defense wall, no projectiles can get through, on top it shoots them back, awesome defense becoming awesome offense. IMO fits guard very well. Mesmers of course do it better, and I wouldn’t be against seeing it added to necros… they need something.
I’d like to see more trash killing in dungeons. I enjoy things like clearing the trash in the Ascalon fractal, variety of mob types makes me cover different options. And, I like killing things.
But forcing trash clearing… that’s boring. I want events where we’re getting swarmed, not timegates but as soon as things are down reinforcements come in. Timer and kill checks. If you take too long on a round of reinforcments, the second comes when you’re unprepared so you can’t just kite one group around for forever. But if you kill them fast you just have more and more coming.
We have all these CC tools, but letting us use them on a singular boss would be way OP, stunlocking a boss and kililng it isn’t what I call fun. But if you had a bunch of enemies, then you’d have to use a lot of CC and rotate them, and everyone in the team would have to do their best to use the CC on the adds that it was best suited for. I think it could be interesting.
In other words I want to see the fight before the boss of CoF2, but I want them to spawn running from various doors and entrances instead of just spawning in one spot.
Varra “Oh you want to melee Lupicus, best I can do is use that bow and make sure he shadow step to me to kitten you up”
B-b-but she uses a rifle.
B-b-but she uses a rifle.
That doesn’t make it any better.
I’m glad you guys understand what i meant. Those kind of situations just frustates the hell out of me.
@Jerus
Exactly thats my point. Guardian in it’s nature is more defense oriented, so a wall type of thingy that protects the whole team makes sense, BUT why reflect it back? I can’t understand the design decision, especially since we have two classes that has a theme built around punishment and agression. Whatever …
More time gated trash killing? Ehh, me dislike. No no.

I think one of the ideas behind this game was that nothing is really one dimensional. I have aegis, but I can build myself to have it damage upon breaking, or heal upon breaking. So defense can become offense, and offense becomes defense (blinds) stuff liek that. While I agree it doesn’t necessarily fit, it’s not something that I feel is all that surprising to see in this game with that idea being so prevalent.
And I don’t think I explained myself right. I want more trash killing, but I want to be able to fight through it, things spawn, and if I kill it all it’s over. No overall time gate. But at the same time leave a timer for spawning so people can’t just kite it and take an hour to do whats designed to be done in a couple minutes. So those who are above par are doing it in a minute, those who are below par can stretch it out to 5 mins but at that point if they’re going much slower they’ll be overwhelmed. Basically I like the killing, I don’t like time gates, and I don’t like the idea of a pug group coming up with a strategy that takes 20 minutes to do it.
So basically something like 10 waves of enemies. The reinforcments spawn as soon as the previous wave is defeated, or every 30seconds. Meaning at most it’ll all come out by 5 mins into it. But if you are killing them in 10s each then you’ll have only taken about a minute and a half. If you do range and take it slow you’ll have to deal with whatever is still alive at 5 minutes in that you haven’t already killed kinda forcing groups to play aggressivly rather than sitting back and kiting it slowly as they would get overwhelmed by the end.
I just killed Kaeyi for the first time ever… Did not know that Tazza just spawns a new add. lol

thoughts??
personally i think the dungeon reward system is pretty good. barring a few exceptions. namely fractals.
as I am not an Economist. what do you guys think?
OP farmed his rear bottom off and now bored, because he reached his goals. See the attached pics by him.
Sry but anything u can gather only sold for few copper to the npc. Even if u sell it through tp, the game isn’t generating any addition gold since the source came from another player.
Just … what?
is it just me?
or do you all have a hard time reading posts that use texty shorthand?
much less take them seriously
(shudders)
He’s wrong. For an extremely long wall o text list of reasons I might type out after church. But I’m lazy and I try to avoid that nowadays.
Short version.
1. Only considers the creation of gold, but doesn’t consider the creation of goods. (Inflation has as much to do with how much gold there is I. The system as there is goods available.)
2. He doesn’t have any solid numbers… Or even any soft numbers about how much gold is actually created from people doing dungeons.
3. A small amount of inflation is actually healthy for an economy.
4. Only looking at inflation is not a pure indicator of health of economy.
If this were reddit I would probably get more downvotes than there are grains of sand in the sahara, but I actually do think that the gold reward at the end of dungeons does have a negative impact on the economy.
It is however not nearly as simple as that thread suggests, because frankly put anything that gets sold to an npc vendor does have the same effect. So does every event completed and any cash that drops from a mob as well. PvP matches also generate gold this way. And this still isn’t the full picture on the topic, just the mos obvious aspects.
It appears to have a greater impact because the amount of gold per time when doing dungeons seems fairly high compared to the other sources from an individual point of view.
But since we don’t have any numbers to compare the amount of gold generated overall from dungeon rewards compared to the other sources game wide across the entire playerbase, it is difficult for us to make any informed statement or even guess about this.
Tl; dr: dungeon rewards have a negative impact on the economy as they hasten inflation. But so do a lot of other things as well.
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.
I am generally critical of Anet and its employees. Experience has taught me not to put much faith in them. However, John Smith, their economist, is one of the few exceptions. He is doing a good job.
Players like SundayTrash should: 1) learn some basic economics; and 2) look at John Smith’s post history and how the GW2 economy has changed over the last 2 years to realize that John’s competent.

This. He’s pretty much the only employee left that I have any trust in.
The worst part of that thread is that it isn’t in the Trading forum so OP can’t have the pleasure of being John Smith’d.

What if I tell u John Smith don’t play the game, and what if I tell u John Smith might not even exist? He may just as well be a fragment of ur imagination that exist to keep u safe and reminds u of everything is going to be okay, there is no inflation.
Please, please, please, John Smith, correct this fool.
There really is something wrong with the pack of mobs (the ones with the one hunter) right after the 2nd boss in arah p1 and p2. I’ve had some really weird kitten happen when I skipped past them. This time they actually warped trough walls and they were waiting for me near the orrian turrets.
They’re clingy like that. Gotta sneak past or punch some sense into them.
They have always done that. Thats why its best to clear them or let them patrol far enough so you can skip without aggroing. Usually in a solo you would just clear all the trash and leave the hunter.
check brazil’s youtube, he has a part near the end of his how to solo p2 up to lupicus video on how to path them so you dont have to fight them
I see. I always stealth past them without pulling aggro though but it seems they follow me no matter what I do. Worst part is that their reset location became the location in the picture so I had to sacrifice myself to the turrets a few times to get past.
Edit: thx for the brazil video, really helped me understand.

I like dungeons and Ikea.

Huh…. A certain Saiyan was offering to teach it for 30g. Meh… I always wonder why people want to learn that stuff. It’s gonna be found out someday, and if you don’t know how to do it the real way, you’re eff’d.
I doubt it will be fixed for a long time… people are still selling runs and skipping Lupi and this has been going on for nearly a year.
But I mean, I’ve always found phase 1 hardest… Can’t deal with all them locusts yo.

Why would anyone want to keep him in phase 1 lmao.
Oh well, probably underwater stuff.

I don’t really see what then. Frenzied blasts in phases 2 and 3 are the only things that are sorta rngish.

I see you’re referring to his AOE (which I thought was called Necrid Barrage). If that’s the case, never mind then

1: I could be wrong but i am not sure that “healer” is in FoTm, mage yes, monk yes, but not healer. (again i could be wrong)
2: I am not aware of an “ice imp” in Fractals.
3: Swamp
4: Cliffside
5: Aetherblade (the regular shard NOT Mai Trin )
6: Molten facility (although i think it also depends on level and some RnG element i have run shards that have not had them in it. )
