General Dungeon Discussion Thread - Part 1
Just coming out of SE pt1 “ZERK WARR/ELE/GUARD” party. Decided to pug a dungeon for dem lulz
I hop on the party on my warrior saying I will switch to my ele since there are 2 warriors already. The guardian starts crying to be fast and all that … hmm .. okay.
They were are Nook already, so we just finished him off and proceeded to the golems. As a person who’s been playing his warr mainly in the past few days, I totally forget about fgs. 2 guys get downed but all the golems die anyway.
Guardian: No fgs? Gj ele.
Me: I’m sorry, I’ve been playing my warr lately, totally forgot.
Guardian: fgs is all eles are worth
Me: I beg to differWe get to the last boss and this is when I notice that WE HAVE A BLOODY “ZERK” GUARDIAN USING A STAFF AS MAIN WEAPON! The same guy who was just complaining about my mistake with the fgs was just staffing the kitten out of the boss and couldn’t even care less about swapping to another weapon.
Faith in pugz: destroyed. Back to guildies.
Wait you had faith in pugs?
I’m trying to be kazul.
There is no reason to ever have faith in pugs.
Believe me, I’ve seen some kitten…
Lmfao are you serious. I got an infraction for responding to deSade about something so freakin’ trivial that the only explanation is that a mod is clearly crying in real life because they like to leisurely play as a staff guard.
Noooooh…. I kinda think it’s my fault. I get chopped everytime I post on the forum so maybe you got involved too. People hate me. Now they hate us both Q.Q
It’s k, at least we’re together, united in grief.
On related news,
I wanna throw up.

Next time you decide to pug SE please give me advance warning. I still need a ton of tokens from there to outfit the thousands of asura that I leveled to 80 in the last few weeks when real life made me too casual to seriously run dungeons .
Back to general dungeon topics: I had a very casual dungeon weekend trying to level my daughter’s elementalist from 73 (I think) to 80. After two paths of AC we were left with a 4-man group, and since my husband was busy preparing lunch, I spontaneously decided to hand over the elementalist to my daughter on dad’s computer, jump on my mesmer and drag her into the dungeons with us.
We then proceeded to do AC 3 and TA up with an 11-year-old who had never been in a dungeon (or even in any serious group content) before and had pretty much only stumbled around with her elementalist until then (took her 1.5 years to even get to level 73). It went surprisingly smooth, I only had to take over for the TA skips, the rest (including producing fgs and icebow whenever mom told her to do so ) went better than with some pugs I have encountered.
Many thanks to winterchillz and his guildies who went through those dungeons with us! You made a young lady very happy (and her old mum enjoyed herself, too ).
Though i would share this with you guys, since i’m reading but not really posting.
Basically, i started a CoF P1 run on the LFG, asking “P1 rush 80, Zerk only”.
The party filled pretty quick, 5 warriors.
So we go for it, but one of the other warriors seems to have a pretty low DPS. Bah, it’s CoF p1 i don’t really care. Then, after the Fiery Balls (that the low dps one managed to fail almost 5 time in a row on the first ball), come the room where you have to split to get the door opened. And there comes the magic he’s just running arround, doing nothing. Okay calm down, he may be don’t know how to do it. So i say how to do it in group chat. No answer, still running around. Then i state a “XXX, answer or kick ?”
Then an unexpected “kick” from him comes in say chat. LOLWUT.
He really asked me to kick him. #IMOKAYWITHDIS
Perhaps he thought you asked his utilities.
Perhaps he thought you asked his utilities.
I really doubt it, that would make no sense.

I think it is because……………wait for it…………………..wait for it………………………..it was a pug! expect a rock to be more useful then one
Why not?
He checked his skill bar. He had a skill called “kick” and he didn’t have a skill called “answer”.

Stop… stop! I don’t want it to be true. I don’t want to believe pugs are THAT stupid, even though I know they are.

Kick : Immediatly get you out of pick up group. Damages of the group then increase by 100%. Self inflict cripple. Combo Finisher : Explosion.
Answer : Can’t use, you’re a PUG.

The young lady did a great job in all of the dungeons we ran, I’d pick her over a random guy any day. I’m happy that the little princess enjoyed it, and you’re most welcome, it’s always a pleasure to have you with us, ladies. I beg to differ on the “old mum” part though
I’m happy that the little princess enjoyed it
Totally off-topic, but do you realize that that “little princess”, for all her 11 years, is already 1.65m tall and wears shoes size 41 (european)? I’ll keep the “little princess” for her little sister, but this one really is a young lady already … and now she’s even playing the same computer games as me. Time does fly …
I’m a size 36 >_> kitten
im so confused
i thought shoes just went from sizes 1 to 13
I’m a size 36 >_> kitten
You will always be my little princess <3
European sizes go up to 47-48 usually
UK and American go to 13
Educate yourself on shoes,
On topic: A Staff guard with toughness stacks gave me a free arah p1 today, I don’t know how I feel about this.

He probably has a notepad titled “Evil Elitists I’ve Carried” that he’s checked off everytime he does a path. :P
In a serious note though, it can be done. Wonder how long it took him?

Such a kazul
I just had 4 first timers for TA story which all had less than 1k AP. They managed to play better than a lot of “experienced” players, understood how to blast fields without having me telling them and went full melee except for the S/D ele.
How is this even possible? kittening pugs, how do they work? I mean I’m not complaining about those guys, but you’d expect it to be the opposite.
New players tend to be more receptive to advice. Old players are stuck in their stubborn ways. A lot of new players have come into the game and look up guides etc. So they end up being far more experienced than some stubborn PHIW’s who have played since release.
And as im sure Winter can back me up on this. Many of us vets are happy to help and teach new players that are friendly and willing to learn and listen. I dont go out of my way to teach people (dont have the time or drive), but if people ask me for help most of the time I will do what I can. Because I really appreciate when people think my advice is worth something.

Easy…it’s called educating yourself instead of yoloing. They probably have spent time looking at the wiki and youtube on people that are more experienced. I recently had a run in with an “experienced” player who was in a higher end guild that couldn’t even blast their own fields and were expecting others to do it for them. Let’s just say that person rage quit on is :P
Makes sense. I still don’t know why a lot of people who play for some time now feel attacked when you give them advice or suggest a different approach. I can just assume they think I indirectly said they’re bad players or they feel like taking advice is admitting that or whatever goes on in their heads, but for me giving and receiving advice, new tactics and tricks is simply expanding your horizon.

A lot of people feel like they’re entitled to everything lately and feel that any advice is an attack on their playstyle and knowledge/experience/whatever. I’m always up for learning new tip and tricks and new strategies for encounters. It gives me options for when plan A doesn’t function.

Which is a real shame that they think they are. I always want to cry when I see rifle camping warriors, gs camping mesmers etc., even more so when fighting Mai Trin 30+ or 40+, then complain they get wrecked and when I tell them how the encounter works and tell them skills which are useful for surviving, they often either simply do not acknowledge and and keep going or start to call me a nub who doesn’t even know how to play (which is kinda funny I guess).
Sadly I’m kinda dependent on pugs.
PUGs are an illness, a good guild is the cure ;-)
I agree, go guild hunting

“hmm, what do these tool tips mean combo finisher and combo fields? hmm” “ohh cool, when I use Mighty blow in my field I get area retaliation” “ok it’s probably time I look this stuff up, -hop to wiki- AHH that’s how it works!”
That was my 2nd day playing I’d imagine there are many new players who did that as well. (I’ve been playing ~5months now).
I long ago discounted AP as having any bearing on skill. A new player who takes the time to learn the basics and maybe watch a video about the more complex things will easily outperform some of the 20k AP people I’ve run into.
Jerus, I don’t take AP as a guideline either – However below 1000 or so AP usually means that this person is genuinely new to the game. :P
As for guild hunting, if it would only be that easy…
“I’ve got 20AP because I ran to green dots and pressed ‘f’ a lot worked really hard in LS and PS. I even follow a zerg around spamming Wave of Wrath regularly battle open world bosses to make enough gold to pay someone else to run dungeons for me and earned my Dungeon Master title.
I know what I’m talking about when I say my longbow does better damage against these burrows at range — I know my class, scrub! Don’t tell me how to play!"

This is exactly how I imagine some people.
A friend told me once that they are two type of people in the world, the good ppl that give advice and receive and the ppl who do not take the advice and insults you for giving them one…Still flawless

I think that as long as a player wants to improve, it doesn’t matter if you’ve been playing since release or just joined GW2. I joined this game only 3 months ago but I can say that I have a decent, above the average knowledge on almost all dungeons and on the class that I’m maining. I’ve already managed to solo a couple of dungeons and all that was because people like you, Spoj, have taken their time to pick me up and guide me through everything. Many of you, nowadays even me probably, will be classified as “elitists” but I rather take that as a compliment than an insult. I’ve taken what many people before me gave me as knowledge and I try to pass it on to the rest. Some listen, other go wrecking havoc on me. Oh, well, it’s up to them, really.
Pssssh, yeah. All of us solo lvl 50 fractals all the time because it’s so easy. I did it naked on my level 6 necro. Didn’t even use weapons, only Warrior Kick.
smh
