General Dungeon Discussion Thread - Part 1
What could be more fun?
I honestly would rather have 3 necro than 3 warrior pugs. That way I wouldn’t have to cringe as much.
Last Arah P4 pug I did the warrior was longbow autoattacking the elite wraiths in the second part of Grenth… christ that was shameful.

Wow Jerus, even my NVIDIA GT 540M can put up with a lot better settings than that! :|

Pulled the trigger, no longer a scrub without a legendary.
Well done!
You can put everything on low and adjust Sampling to Native. It will be significantly less worse.

I simply run “best performance” because I find the “autodetect” options while often fine in dungeons still leads to lag issues at times which is something I don’t want to deal with if I can prevent it. I’m not one too big on graphics of a game, it’s all about the game play to me. And, while I’m wow’ed by some of the screenshots people post since I can’t get anywhere close and still play. So again, I just sit at best performance usually. I can get better for screenshots such as : http://imgur.com/a/8B3NP#0 But, I can’t play with that level of settings, and the best I can play with again, leads to some lag issues and is so low it’s not even worth the trouble. So I should have swapped settings but the reactions on here are good for a laugh
I was due for a computer upgrade but then my car died, and that’s a bit more important Ohh well, maybe in a few months.
Long story short, my current computer is a hand-me-down after my computer was stolen and my brother got a new one before heading off to college so he was leaving the desktop behind. I scooped it up, tossed a 50 dollar graphics card in it and have been playing on it for like 2-3 years. Finally had some money in the bank with enough to drop a grand or so on a new rig and still be comfortable but again, car… so yeah.

Gw2 is very heavy on CPU. I have a very expensive card but it turns out my CPU justdoesn’t keep up with the game. I always have a massive lag spike when there are a lot of people around. There are a couple of quick fix I have known of:
- Use vertical alignment for any sudden weird lag
- Put everything on Best Performance. Change Model Quality to Medium, Limitation to Low (in dungeon, it will cause culling in WvW), Render Sampling to Native. Graphic looks less garbage on the cost of like 30% of your fps.
- Change your CPU/hard disk.

Yeah gonna have to give that native thing a try, I just tested it out, but saw a little lag but they may have been other things as well (have a bunch of crap running atm because I’m just screwing around).
And yup, on the CPU thing, though pretty sure none of my things are much higher than the minimum specs for this game.
Even on highest settings I’m still never spiking above a quarter of my CPU’s usage unless I’m also streaming or something like that.
Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
i7’s aren’t quite as expensive as they were when I got this with my laptop 3 years ago. Even though GW2 is taxing on the CPU, when it comes to gaming on a PC the most important thing you can do for yourself/your system is to have a good graphics card.
(edited by Purple Miku.7032)
As it is I’m maxing my CPU if I have too many chrome windows up and play the game. And, as I said bad graphics card. So kinda SOL on both sides Was planning on dropping a bit and getting a really nice rig, but that’ll have to wait for now unfortunately. And btw, I’d kill for an i7! AMD dual core in this potato.
(edited by Jerus.4350)
Oh god. Yeah dual core… that bites!
Whenever you’re able to afford it I suggest getting a new PC altogether tbh.
See, my problems are like 100% network-related instead of hardware-related like yours. Not only does America have pretty much the most pathetic internet speeds in the world, but it costs more in most cases too.
Like, it’s not even possible for me to use swirling winds on my ele for Lupi’s phase 2 aoe for example. My ping’s just too high. You need under 250 ping for it to actually be possible to react fast enough, and I average 300-350 now (used to average 250-300 before the september feature patch) so yeah.
But lately my wifi has been even worse and it doesn’t appear like there’s much I can do about it… my house itself is old. The signal strength varies. My ping frequently spikes up to 500-800 which is pretty much unplayable.
Worst case scenarios it’ll hit several thousands (highest ping so far was 24.2k, took a pic of it lmao).
Yeah, mine fluctuates pretty heavily, but in general internet is solid. It’s more my hardware Cox is actually not too bad as far as internet goes, expensive for sure, but the quality is “worth it” when you consider the quality of alternatives in my experience, at least as a gamer.
There are definitely times where I struggle on those reflects/winds though. Had a terrible experience a few weeks back, failed it like a dozen times in one night, though a few were just bad placement by me (yes doing the wall trick, but it was in runs training for that tournament where it was allowed, not a big fan of it and was disappointed it was allowed there).
(edited by Jerus.4350)
Oh I never let people do it if I’m in an instance. I will intentionally drag him away from the wall when there is a guard/mesmer in the group and they show any signs of knowing what is going on. I hate it. He is one of my favorite bosses so to me it’s just as bad to do that than it is to skip him.
What I’m mostly referring to is when I was going for a fast D/F ele solo a while ago, it was not possible for me to use swirling winds unless I just blindly guessed if he was about to do the attack. I had to double dodge and hope for good RNG which was just too rare.
RNGwars 2 ftw.
Sometimes the ping spikes so badly that I will take the damage + cc from a kick/swipe before the animation even begins… that’s always cute.
Anyways, my connections never used to be this bad before. It makes me sad. I was talked into playing GW2 again at least sometimes but since I pretty much cannot stream anymore due to getting disconnected so often I have even less reason to log in than before. :<
I will try to have the modem/router relocated and see if it helps alleviate some of these issues. Wireless is expected to suck, but never as much as this…
-sniffles- here are the worst ones…
:(

I hear ya, and I may adopt your methods of “screw ya’ll we’re doing this the right way” once I can consistently solo. I adore the fight as well just haven’t put in the practice to solo yet. I haven’t been playing much lately so every time I do it with a group is my practice, one of these weekends I’ll have to just lock myself in there, I’m pretty close, but p3 can still mess me up (I do it on guard because it was the character I wanted to do it on from the start).
I don’t know how to feel about that thread. That guy is either a master troll or just an idiot ( or both?).
Please be a troll. Please be a troll. Please be a troll …
Its not about zerker, for me a full zerker is a waste of dps because he is downed every single blow from any boss and my time reviving them is just huge dps loss.
Yesterday i played with zerkers…4 of them were down from 3 hit even with my perma protect from hammer while i was on 50% hp. Full zerker is just for those who are lazy and dont want to make better build.I have combo zerker, valky and knight gear. 48% crit chance 210% crit dmg, ¸18k hp and 2100 attack (without food). I menage to do pretty well, not dying and protecting allies with my shouts.
I aprove only zerker warriors, 2 in a team is a good thing. but 4 zerkers is too much and dps lose.
So I did a se P2 yesterday, we 3 manned it with two newcomers, and it was actually really fun. I’m puzzled. Like, It was easy minus the last boss, we wiped twice I think ( never did this path in about a year and a half), it wasn’t THAT long, bosses were not surprising at all but hey, they were mechanics about reflect, stability and stuff, the escort npc turned around only 3 times… seriously, it’s fun !
I love this game. Other than battlefield and arma there is no other game where I can be so utterly frustrated and wishing for the death of my teammate then mere seconds later I fall in love with me most gorgeous norn female I have ever seen. Im sorry Traffa. You have been replaced.
I feel as they are actively trying to kick me out of the game.
Since the last patch, my lag spikes are so bad I can barely play. I disconnect randomly and I have consistent 5-10s freezes while dungeoning, multiple times a day. I have a respectable pc and stable connection and I was often below 100 ping; after the patch, I can’t even manage to reflect lupi properly.. I have to precast.
It’s not just me: I saw 4 people dc’ing at the same time in CM, after a 10-20 sec freeze. I was the only one that managed to stay in the instance.
If I call “lag” in chat, there are at least 2 other guys in my party that type it aswell. Again, I saw multiple dc’s over the course of my dungeon tours. All of this after the patch.
Anet don’t give no kitten. I have no proof, I don’t know what causes it.
I don’t even know if they’re doing n—- err, “investigating the issue”.
I’m sad. Dragon age 3 will never come out quickly enough.
Yeah those party wide lags happen to everyone, especially in an instance ( had a few in open world and WwW but nothing like those 10 sec freezes).
meanwhile:
Omg are you reading what I wrote or just judging LOL. I am not in PVT gear. MG so many ignorant ppl.
And I dont care what you think of my build or anything. I’m just saying, too many stupid zerkers around thinking they are good.
I broke it
Meh, I don’t understand what’s wrong with casuals in this game.
Like, I’m doing my dailies in neverwinter (why do I still bother)… it happens that one of the best – that I’m aware of – armor sets for the wizard is called… high vizier something. To get the set pieces, you have to do multiple dungeons scattered across the game.
Yeah, after playing gw2 for so much, I nearly forgot that in some game you don’t have to grind money and then go to the closest bl trader to get your equip, ahaha, weird…
Anyway, not once I have read in chat or heard from people complaints such as “omg, I hate to be forced to wear high vizier, why are so many wizards wearing it, my set is just as effective but more original, omg you’re all the same, sheep! OMG ALL THESE STUPID CW WITH VIZIER AROUND THINKING THEY’RE GOOD”
It might be different in the fact that there are many sets, but as in all things some are terrible and some are at the top of the food chain. Because… because it’s how it is.
But no, casuals in gw2 have to whine. They can’t accept that some weapon or stat combinations are a little more effective in some situations than other sets.
In other games it’s “where can I get this strong set so I can be more effective?” Here it’s “I WANT TO FEEL SPECIAL!!!!”
Is it a game catered to.. special… kids?
Is it a game catered to.. special… kids?
Yes. :/

Just wanted to say, you maybe already know this trick and didn’t want to swap into earth because you were going for a record, but one way you can deal with aoe phase is using ring of earth. If you dodge back once, stand still and cast, you won’t get hit. At least, so far it’s been 100% for me, and I know from playing thief my rng is not so great :x.
^ skip to 2:45 for the first time I use it. Obviously that’s not a fast solo, it was an overly cautious off the wall solo XD. At some point i want to re-do it without arcane shield.
Man.. not even Matt or Dodd would do such things! :x

it’s why i tagged along for guild full clear arah p4 because it was something new which i had rarely done before and it felt refreshing.

It’s actually even better to do the same thing with magnetive wave since it reflects for more damage. I know this, but at the same time I’m still trying to go for the fastest possible time that I can given what I’m able to roll (RNG). With that in mind, I’d prefer to not have to screw up my might-stacking rotation as much as possible and…
with D/F you just have so few of blasts, blegh. It totally blows when you have to swap to earth for popping obsidian flesh and mess up your attunement cooldowns. :<
Same deal with swapping to it specifically for ring of earth, really. I also somewhat have this dilemma when doing staff on phase 2 if I’m to use earth #3 for the AoE because then you have a few seconds with dreadful DPS.
Thank you for the response though!
Either way, it’s become extremely clear to me at this point that soloing Lupi with an ele is by far best to do with staff on the wall. For offwall, I can’t see staff being too wonderful… the rapid fires are horrible. D/F seems like the best option here, but perhaps energy sigil on staff would make it OK?
I still have not done an offwall D/F ele solo without using both energy sigil + arcana II + lifesteal food and arcane shield + lightning flash btw. Dem rapid fires. However, I used arcane brilliance and arcane wave, no mist form.
EDIT: I can only post once every 30 minutes, so response to Tom Yzf.5872:
That happens to me most of the time too ofc, but like I said — attempting to maximize damage for best results. I generally will just double dodge always and hope for the best to avoid losing the extra blast/screwing up my might stacking rotation. It’s very RNG-reliant.
I was just pointing out the extra damage added from reflecting, that’s all
(edited by Purple Miku.7032)
Magnetic wave has a much smaller area radius than ring of earth. If lupi’s aoe doesn’t fall directly on top of you but still within range while you magnetic wave (happens to me 90% of the time) , you will be forced to dodge. Ring is much more effective because of the bigger radius.
I figured it was a rotation-optimisation thing. What I think I would dislike about staff off-wall is that getting off a good meteor shower in phase 3 would be rolling for rng. I’m not the type to push for records, I like to use strategies I can reasonably pull off first try without player error.
I want to go back to ele solos once I master thief offwall – I still get kitten on by phase 2 too often. I’ll try and clean up my d/f first and then think about how and offwall staff would work.

I love watching your solo. The most amazing thing to me is your 100% HP almost all the time. And your helpful tips. Motivating and excellent!
I also agree that Arcane Wave is much better than Arcane Shield in your case, since you already nail the tempo down very well.

XD I mostly credit that to the lifesteal food and sig heal, which makes it pretty easy to top off 10k health. Although, it wasn’t quite 100%, i did almost die to the phase 3 transition
>.<; .
Everyone knows that P3 is tough on ele and a mistake in your rotation can screw you easily. Still very formidable, imo

Try staff ele for phase 3 — it’s the biggest joke ever tbh. I never expected it to be so great for it but it makes phase 3 with a warrior seem like hell by comparison. With D/F you’d always need to worry about the big aoe leech but with staff it’s just 1 dodge backwards + a burning retreat and voila.
However, off-wall would be another story. Like I said in my post above, probs need an energy sigil to pull that off.
But yeah like I said… staff ele on Lupi phase 3 = wayyyy easier than D/F haha.

Sorta, yeah… http://youtu.be/oke-RRviP-8?list=UUsEz_4_r-nEy4GJ-aNQpOtQ
I’m also talking about rfdarko’s p3- off wall performance. I have seen Dub’s attempt to do off wall in staff once. Not a fan with the RNG.

Yesterday I got myself a PU condi mes pug in Arah. Scepter/Torch + Staff. Worst of all, I initiated the kick and someone triggered a cutscene effectively securing his place in the run. He was justifying himself that his “build is made for Arah, reflects and trash skipping”. I don’t think I ever wanted to rage at someone that bad in quite a while…

It’s a LOT of fun, except for the run back…
Really though easily my favorite fight.
just get someone to sit in your instance and res you when you die
the endgame is mostly afk’ing anyway so might as well give them the opportunity to be a productive afk’er :p
And minstrel, time to shine ~
Does anyone here have a link to either a list or chart of calculated theoretical solo DPS between all of the classes? I am more interested in figuring out how ele/guard/warr/thief compare to one another in a solo vacuum setting, but it would actually be nice for reference to see them all to compare how drastically they each change in optimal group vs. solo scenarios.

It was our first kill so there is for sure going to be a lot faster of a kill soon to come.
A few questions my friend asked that I answered already:
-we used X in air for the lightning storms, and also because there wasn’t much else relevant
-I don’t remember if Goku has ascended on his ele atm, but Lupicus just generally dislikes me so that might be why he was targeting me.
-Goku did not need renewing stamina because as already stated, Lupicus kitten hates me so he didn’t need to dodge nearly as much in phase 3. He still should have used 66020 instead, but it was like 1:30 AM for him so yea we just wanted to give it a few tries.
Adventures in pug-land, day 1:
With my two NPE alts rapidly aproaching level cap (ranger on this account actually reached 80 a couple of days ago, ele on the other account is in her 70s), I decided to get both of them zerker equip from CoF, since I’m still missing the related skins in my wardrobes. Since my stash of CoF tokens has been deminished by previous alts, it looks like some farming is required.
As I don’t want to overextend the good will of friends and guildies to run the same dungeon twice each day just for me, I fired up lfg yesterday to look for pugs for CoF p1+2. I haven’t pugged in a while, but didn’t remember CoF pugs being very painful, so it shouldn’t be all that bad.
First try with the new ranger (lvl 80, full dps build with all relevant traits, but only rare gear) in a group simply advertising as “p1”. The first couple of encounters went not overly fast but ok. We actually lose one person on the “bridge of doom”, something I hadn’t seen before . Accolytes has people running around like headless chickens and we make it, although barely (4 dead, my poor little ranger included). The flaming boulders part goes without a hitch (surprisingly, especially since we don’t have a mesmer), but the burning domes are a mess. The warrior keeps running into other people’s domes instead of staying in his, and complains when we reset (to allow the dead to revive) how he’s almost cleaned out the enemies and that they would stop respawning if we would just stop stepping into the domes facepalm. We get the path done eventually …
Still, I’m optimistic and fire up lfg again to find a group of four advertising a simple “p2”. In goes my little ranger, to find people on the final boss, killing accolytes left, right and center in no apparent order. Still, this can’t take ages, right? I run to the event (can’t port because people are in combat all the time) and try my best to get the accolytes down as soon as one goes. Good thing I’m using the longbow/sword+x build on the ranger, allows me to take down several accolytes in short order and maximize the damage uptime on the flame. By the time the last accolyte goes down and I run to the flame with my sword, the first one is usually up again, so lower bow dps trumps no sword dps in this case, right? In the end, I get my tokens 8 minutes after entering the instance, so it’s not that bad, but I really don’t want to think about how long the rest of that group has been in there.
A few hours later I try the same thing again on the other account, full ascended mesmer this time. I find a simple “p2”, language specific, and join. The instance starts ok, although not all of them seem to be aquainted with current pug tactics for the path. Nobody feels confident enough to solo the lava field (I really need to practice that on the mesmer), so we try to 5-man that, loosing a couple of people (and Magg) in the field as a consequence. We eventually get through, not the fastest run I’ve had, not very coordinated at times, but the flame actually goes down in two rounds (instead of the dozend or so in the afternoon group).
“p1” afterwards (with some of the same people) was pretty smooth, with only small hitches. We actually got that done in 8 minutes total, a decent time for a pug.
Tune back in for tonight or tomorrow morning for the next episode of “Adventures in pug-land” .
That cof P1 warrior is the reason I hate pugs.
Also, that’s some nice story telling going on there.
Is it a game catered to.. special… kids?
Next time you want to ask yourself this, remember that we don’t have first person camera because they’re afraid it would confuse their players.
And downed-skill locking.
And for that matter, all of the NPE. Because leveling was so hard before.
Yeah.

Lupi always does life drink to a target who has lower HP.
Goku didn’t use Renewing Stamina either, based on the lack of his Vigor buff. My bet is he was using 66200.
You stay way too close to Lupi during p1 – within his kick range.

That is actually not always true, he sometimes targets me on my warrior when I’m full hp and there are others like rangers/thieves etc. Most of the time he does exactly what you say as my ele is very often targeted, but not always.
I also put in the description that Goku was using 662 :P
Reason I was really close to Lupi in phase 1 is because I was blasting my lava fonts. I did not have blasting staff, so it was not possible for me to do so out of the kick range and simultaneously hit him. That’s why
