That said, I do hope they don’t make the toughness increase a blanket effect over everything in higher levels otherwise it’ll just knock power builds out of contention.

But, maybe, just maybe they’ll read the feedback on that and go “ohh kitten, yeah, that’s dumb” in time to change it. The devs aren’t dumb, they’re just overworked by a headless chicken.

When I correlate Conditions to PHIW is merely because the main advocates behind them are, in fact, PHIWs on reddit and et cetera. I also want to point out that conditions allow players to be a bit more tanky because they dont depend on as many stats as pure damage.

I want to refresh the point that this new fractal system makes it that much harder to add new fractals, since they would have to reorganize the entire “1 specific Island per Scale number” when adding a new one.

It’s not a friendly system for adding new content. What I see is a system friendly of being explored by a larger quantity of casual players and then left abandoned after everyone is done with it.

Unfortunately, I don’t see this being an expansive system at all.

Hmm, lvl 100 fractal = Grawl Shaman – Instabilities: No reflecting + whatever else.

That would really make that fractal a complete pain in the kitten as it tough on 50 with a poor group as is. Hell with 2 mesmers chaining reflects today we still failed constantly for 30minutes because there were 2 people from a guild that were clueless and wouldn’t listen, so they kept dying constantly then getting other people killed that tried to rezz them. (eventually 5th person who refused to kick left, kicked the 2 guilded people out and completed it 5minutes later with new members). To know how bad it was, the guardian did not know what WoR was, nor did he know how to stand in the god kitten big purple bubbles that protected everyone from elementals

With high toughness enemies, I am thinking of using a reaper with sinister/zerk mix (zerk for at least some decent crit dmg).

Reaper/Soul reaping/blood magic.

With the right setup can put out plenty of chill (that also will dmg), Dhuumfire will stack burns etc. So you can put out some nice conditions just from traits.
Blood magic will give sustain and some group support.

Take a greatsword and you can get the pulsing blind field. If you got might from group you can forgo the greedy trait and spec Soul Eater so that when you enemy with gravedigger you can actually reduce downtime on your blind field. Especially when enemy <50% health and you can spam gravedigger (no cooldown on <50% hp enemies).

Figure that be able to bring more conditions, and more support than the mesmer can especially on no-reflect instabilities and saves me needing to get another set of AR for another character as can just move the armour back to necro where it originally came from.

Of course, this will mean nothing if I love the Revenant and can find people that willing to let me run him in fractals. Would happily get her a wvw and a pve set of armour sorted and she will have a lot of versatility. Hell even Ventari may become helpful in the highest levels.

But, no projectile defense for example, now strategies for many encounters change. I’m all for that kind of stuff. Make us play differently. Make us change out strategies. One size fits all just isn’t great, now I’d have prefered new content to make us change, but adjusting the way things works creates different encounters where we can’t just bring what we always have.

Changing strategy is fine. Making people change gear isn’t, in my opinion.

Can’t +1 enough. I HATE the idea of carrying multiple sets of gear in order to complete content.

Plus, this game design is about shinnies, not stats required to complete content.

Some napkin math about new fractals:

Before, we had 50 levels. Progress each level required 3 fractal + boss fractal = 4.
To reach level 50 one had to complete a minimum 200 total fractals.

We now have 100 levels. To progress each level we are only required to complete 1 fractal. That is 25% of previous system: 1/4.
To reach level 100 from level 0 with the new system, one only has to complete 100 fractals.

Funnily enough, the new 100 levels will only equate to previous Fractal level 25, in terms of progress. The new 0-50 range would be equivalent to Old fractal level 13. Aproximately. The old 0-50 range would be equivalent to New unexisting fractal level 200

Tl;Dr: Old System Fractal 0-25 = New System Fractal 0-100.

Fractals turning hypercasual confirmed Kappa

Only timed daily leaderboards can save it now because Im already seeing Fractal skins losing all their prestige.

I wont like when I see every casual around with Fractal Skins that were supposedly for a different player type.

The system is not perfect but lets take into consideration what Devs said yesterday:

  • you can buy skins if you reach lvl 50 fractals GOOD

They established a numerical limit and you think it is quite good. But then the next comment by Anet happens:

  • they said they would be reducing difficulty from 0-50 BAD

Kind of ruins the old 50 difficulty that we thought it was an acceptable barrier of entry to get skin access.

  • price is merely 20 pristine, meaning ultra casuals and not very skilled can, after reaching the to-be-nerfed FOTM 50, farm twenty level 1 island and get them.

Possible solution: Since you get 1 pristine no matter what tier you complete, skins should cost Pristine + Regular Fractal tokens. To ensure higher level players get an easier access to them, while making lower levels actually want to farm higher level fractals and not easy low levels.

I could keep going but I think you got my point.

At the moment you can get a fractal skin from something like scale 10. After patch you need at least scale 51.

Yes, people can do scale 1, 2 and 3 each day for one pristine relic. 20 days for each skin.

Even though we have 50 different fractal levels now, this may sound nice on paper, but in reality people were only doing 50, 40, 30, 20, so actually only 4 different levels. If level 50 would give multiple rewards per day, people probably would only run 50.
I personally prefer to have “less” fractal-levels, if the instabilities in those levels are cool, balanced and worth the effort.

We had fractals for a long while. Which was good I guess.

I would also venture that even after the changes, once the casual players get their shinies they will disappear from FoTM and leave us in peace again.

Sure that means we lose what used to be an exclusive skin for those who had ran and mastered fractals, (at least after a fashion). But will it really be a big deal?

We all kinda knew that this was coming at some point. Anet has been trying to get their casual players into fractals with dailies and such despite many post on the general discussion form about how “awful” it is to have two fractal dailies on the same day. I mean two! the horror

/sigh

I was kinda upset to start with, but after talking to a friend of mine I got over it. If it means I might get her to run fractals with me along with our normal dungeons, I am ok with it. I lose what used to be a prestigious skin to the hoards of causals.

But I have one of my best friends playing fractals with me. And that is Priceless.

This happened to me loads with all fractal tiers in my old guild, it’s part of the reason why i left. When people can’t even be assed to speak to someone for two minutes to get some free loot, it’s time to go.

I have a friend, who’s a friend of a friend, who’s a friend of a friend of someone who must know something about GW2 development, because every time this guy tells me something, it ends up being correct.

I still don’t buy this 100%, but considering the source, I won’t rule it out…Raid (or at least GW2's version of them) announcement at Gamescom, and Marrionette fractal in the works. Treat it as rumor for now, but keep an eye out.

The first one is rather amusing considering what happened there last time. I hope they include crafting and are zergable.

Re: fractal changes, there is a lot of good stuff in there. A lot of trivial things to implement that greatly improve QoL for players: Less RNG in fractals, relics for skins, higher levels, etc. Glad to see them, but too little too late unless they add a lot of new fractal instances. These things should have gone in a loooong time ago, and it really wouldn’t have been that much effort, and what we really need is (lots of) new instanced content, not just new rewards for rerunning the same ol’ kitten. But we know how they prioritize things….

They also mentioned in the article that they’ll be nerfing fractals to “make them more accessible”. Don’t be too surprised when post-HoT level 100 isn’t that much harder than current level 50.

Had a good loot weekend on my 50s. Got a ascended box friday, hammer saturday, greatsword sunday. Wonder how long it will hold up. Funny thing is i got all i was after already. In just 7weeks i got Sword; greatsword, hammer, warhorn, axe, only missin staff i wanted. Also got 2tridents and a scepter

I prefer the old way to have the ennemies details displayed (i actually did this for a project of my own, i’m a filthy thief :P) maybe reduce by one the central column.

And the enlarge feature of the pictures in the right column is a bit too big imo.

The tips can be improved/expanded, some classes with related abilities aren’t mentioned.
Eg. Ele staff 4 in air functions the same as the warrior warhorn skill for both swiftness on party/condition removal, but my tips(guard/mes/ele/thief/war) are only showing the idea for warrior, there are variances of the same tactic on all the class that aren’t mentioned. Same with thief teleports not being mentioned but mes/guard are. Warrior being suggested to bring power buffs over prec at burrows but not thief, other power/prec signets aren’t mentioned on some classes to either remove or put on.

Side note: Is fearing the Howling King into a wall as a warrior a good idea since it reduces the safe area around him by more than half?

Particularly Pedantic: Some of the sentences aren’t perfectly worded, though the point is described well.

qT had it before when they were attempting TA records, so yea it probably is a GM checking you’re not bots farming a path with teleport hacks – no way would anybody other than a GM would still be running into corpses.

Isn’t it that glitch where people could glitch into your instance? I had it happen to me before and it scared the crap out of me, when I ran by kholer in AC there was this ugly as kitten charr just standing there who wasn’t in our group and he just kept writing; “help me” over and over, we didn’t know how to get him out of the instance.
