General Dungeon Discussion Thread - Part 2
Maybe it’s the pug meta? I’d feel safer playing a d/f in arah, for instance. Higher carry potential? I dunno. It’s known that pugs always lag about 1 year behind.
Heaven forbids you use a cash shop booster to maximize your damage. It’s not like you can easily obtain it by converting the plethora of useless boosters with enchantment powder – and that’s some 10 silvers there. But, gosh, what are we gonna do without our Experience booster in our upcoming Mastery grind? Besides, I strongly think that it’s lame to post your own solo videos when you use gemstore boosters (tear-watering expensive food and infusions are fine, tho!). In that light, we also need to train our newbies a good habit of not using the boosters at all for their upright future.

I remember that time I got downvoted into oblivion because I dared to voice my discontent on the mail gold limit. We’re still Thursday.

Personally I think all nourishments should be banned on record runs since they don’t really add anything except gold loss.
I don’t give a crap about nourishments. I use them because they’re there, and if people aren’t ok with me using 9% potions or 60/50 food or even not feeling like it.. they can go kitten themselves.
With a chainsaw.
Stop bullying people for their food choices, some people in africa don’t even have food
Someone should give them some birthday blasters. Cakes all day erry day.
So what you are saying is, let them eat cake?
I don’t know, last time someone tried that it turned out badly

It’s like that post on how to tank properly all over again.
I occasionally eat mango pie and sharpening skulls on my mesmer just to kitten such ^ l33t gangsta kids off. I suppose that makes me a sly and mean phiw gangsta kid.
And yeah, croissants too.
And I have to type with thiskitten#%NG cat sitting in front of the screen. thuglyf, liking cats.

High end food (100/80) is like a 5 dps increase. Up to 50% of dungeon time is spent fighting so using high end food means about 2.5% increased g/hr.
Using Truffle Steak requires 40 silvers per hour. 2.5% of 10g is 25 silvers. So using Truffle Steak means about 15 silver loss per hour.
Similarly 80/60 is a 4% dps increase and 2% of 10g is 20 silvers. So using Asparagus means about 5 silver increase per hour.
Griffon Egg Omelet (60/50) is like a 3% dps increase and 1.5% of 10g is 15 silvers. Using it means 13.5 silver increase per hour.
Why all guides suggest using high end or mid end food?
So Birthday Blaster it is!

If you want to use strength boosters on your daily runs no one is stopping you. Lead the way, start the new meta.

Also, what is a “DPS warrior”? If you’re talking about using Discipline instead of Tactics you have to ask how much is Heightened Focus really worth, since its the only real DPS increase in the entire Discipline line. I think you’d find that EA + Empowered > Heightened Focus in group play. In solo, HF is a much cooler trait since in a 5 minute boss solo you’ll get it multiple times, but I still think that the DPS of Tactics is better than Discipline even in solo. The reason to take discipline for a solo is Fast Hands allowing you to play more defensively… which is the reason I think the so-called “dps warrior” should be renamed “defensive warrior.”
Hey hey, burst mastery is totally a DPS increase but just not as much as heightened focus is if you weren’t already getting quickness to begin with. For any fight where it’s short enough for a time warp to last the whole time it would be wasteful to take HF anyways so burst mastery is better when you get quickness outsourced, but also it’s a greater DPS increase I find for Mai Trin and other bosses that require a lot of movement or to stop attacking for a few seconds etc.
Btw I know that you are aware of these things but I figure some people on forums do not, so I figured I would comment more with it
If you haven’t already, go check the chat of gw2 twitch channel – if… you wanna throw up your breakfast, that is. We’re seeing the “I play condi necro in fracs and I’m proud” parade atm.
My all time favourite up to this point: “You could play support thief and support your party with blinds, instead of being bursty dps”
!??!?!

I guess its time to realize that the majority of people are never gonna understand you don’t have to give up support to do bursty dps.
We only have this discussion in the meta-zerker is <insert random thread title> twice a week.
And people still refuse to understand.

Oh man, that healer hype
Anet never ceases to amaze me how disconnect they are from their playerbase.
“You wont be able to dodge your way out of everything”
“Just by wearing zerker gear you won’t automatically wreck everything you come in contact with” – Guy on stream
I get that these devs don’t have time to play the game on top of their regular work schedules but how can they be this kittening clueless, most of the people playing the game don’t wear zerker gear because they find the playstyle too demanding or above what they are capable of, facetanking hits that you clearly shouldn’t be isn’t something that should be rewarded just so some special snowflake can pretend they are participating in a group. Having to rely on active defenses, quick reaction times and managing cooldowns is something that should be rewarded not frowned upon and mocked by developers.
Quick reminder what the alternative to the zerker meta: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1mxlA13ICk
If this is what people want and somehow find this playstyle more engaging I really don’t know what to say, since even a celestial elementalist can facetank and passively outheal most damage which is a flaw in the game, making players rely on passive stat allocations to carry your playing ability is a terrible game decision.

Man… shut up.. just shut the hell up. It’s pointless to keep yapping now. They don’t think this meta is ok, they want you to have healers and tanks… over. I’m glad my ranger looks a little like my good ol’ monk.
Wow the smokescale.
LOL did they really made Druid pretty much a healer? Didn’t/don’t watch the stream
(edited by NovaanVerdiano.6174)
I for one, enjoy that they’re trying to mix things up. I’m happy if they manage to make us change builds from optimal dps to something else from fight to fight. I doubt they’re actually killing zerker gear though, active defenses in gw2 are too strong.
I’m betting in people picking up different weapons/traits to reflect that fact instead of straight up changing to soldiers to eat some hits.
Quick edit: Let’s focus on what actually matters, that wyrvern looked cool as kitten.

So, just read up on dulfy and saw this:
“Upcoming content will have stuff that you can’t just dodge to survive.”
Necro still didn’t get any active defenses for himself, right? I.e. I’d need to be carried even harder by my team?

What they are going to do is have rapid attacks, attacks that if you dodge/block you’ll have used them up when the bigger attacks come out that will kill you. Just imagine if every boss now had like 100 damage hits coming out at a rate of like 2-3 a second in between their current attacks.
This is going to be done to bring the “sustain” element into PVE, it’s what makes even the best PVP players want to be tankier and love their healing potential. It’s a playstyle I detest though, but we’ve seen hints for a while so it’s no surprise.
We’ll either be ranging to avoid that, tanking up, bringing healers, or playing professions that are naturally more durable (necro which is kinda funny). Or some combination of all of those.
They’re not wrong in that it’d bring elements of the game that aren’t needed into PVE but god, I loved the game as it was designed, striving to come out of a fight unscathed and perfect. But… nope, they’re changing it up. Ya’ll have fun with raids
My body is ready, who will be the first one to do an ADAP run with 5 nomad Druids?
“Upcoming content will have stuff that you can’t just dodge to survive.”
Can you hear it? It is easy to miss among all the hype and all the productive discussion, but if you focus and listen really closely, it’s right there. The sound of everyone quitting.

You got a block on reaper soul and a blind on gsword at the very least.

Welp, a block is not much, but at least something. Blind is… well, if trash will be the main offender (which is unlikely) then it’s helpful, if it’s bosses it won’t have much effect anyway/will be way to unreliable (except they changed the blind success rate too?)

Then compare it to the ele. How is it that make you feel inferior in terms of active defense? That block isnt a single attack block either. It’s a channeling skill.

I’d argue that D/F has a good amount of active defense while still being viable. Ring of Earth blocks/reflects projectiles (or did they change that? They never mentioned in the skill description, but it was able to do that.), then you have Swirling Winds to destroy projectiles in a rather large range, a bonus evade on Burning Speed (though I’ll admit, it’s pretty unreliable), Obsidian Flesh and you can technically slot Arcane Shield or Mist Form.
Of course, a staff ele has much less active defense/most Eles throw active defense out of the window as far as it’s not better to slot it in said situation, but the difference is that they have such options, should the need for them arise.
This necro “block” is a projectile block isn’kitten not an actual block block.
Now, if you’re gonna compare D/F ele with Reaper then also talk about their comparable damage. In the current form, D/F ele is fun to play but its damage is just much worse than a reaper. The more defense you add (Arcane Shield, ha!; Mist form? LOL) the more pitiable it gets.
@Jerus: Shadow Fiend is another pseudo-projectile block. Next week you even have Corrupted Poison Cloud. Even your elite shout is such a sweet defense against elite trash mobs in a short CD as well. What’s more? Necro has unblockable attacks.

So I built a brand new pc. Intel 6700 with nVidia 980 and a nice 2560×1440 144hz monitor to run it all. My fps in gw2 is higher than my ping now… Since I don’t really play anything aside from GW2, what are some games I should get to push this baby to the limit?
So what’s the advantages to running level 50 fractals over 41-49? Is it just that you don’t have to deal with an instability if you have enough AR?
Recently got 50 AR and started running 49. Since 41-50 is the same daily chest, am I missing anything I could be getting by running 50?
50 has better rewards I think. Like higher chance for tonic, wep chests and stuff?
I still get rings so I prefer selling my slot for 20g :P

You could try the witcher 3 with its absolute highest settings and see what you get. I’m not a whole lot sure off the top of my head but I know it’s a game that its base recommended specs are barely worse than what the laptop I’ve been using for years has. :P

No advantage other than not have to deal with the bullcrap level 49 instability where your damage is reduced after dodging. It’s still annoying to have agony ticking when you’re trying to swap traits/gear when you go ooc, but it’s much less annoying. The rewards are pretty much the same as any other level in the tier but you technically have an ever-so-slightly higher probability of getting certain things. This probability isn’t something you would be able to notice a difference with.

If “can’t just dodge to survive” is like the pistol shot or Mai Trinn, i mean using a block utility to avoid it, or either blasting water fields in a coordinated manner, i’m fine with it. If it’s forcing us to wear Cleric’s or Nomad’s or any combo stat, kitten YOU DEVS, you’re going against the first idea you sold us with the game.

More akin to the Laser wall in the Aetherblade fractal (minus the platform), or the spinning fire attack of Sparki which can quickly stack 20 stacks of Burning to any melee attackers. The latter attack is similar to Old Tom’s poison spin, but more deadly due to how OP Burning is currently. They are both unblockable and dodge-exhausting.
In both cases I mention, you are required to break the combat and move around or take shelter. You can hide behind your pet but what if your pet cannot outlast the attack for you to burn the boss down? Hmm… quaggan’s deep thought.
