Half way through my second elite spec and I have had a blast with just Open World Exploring.

I did not grind anything nor bothered rushing anything. Mastery was unlocked naturally as I explored, discovered, and enjoyed the map content alone. I haven’t touched any fractals or dungeons yet. Still waiting for several friend to complete their first elite specs. But so far, my $50 has been fully paid out. Love it!

But hey, at least we have CoF P1 to level mastery’s up, because what says “SHINY NEW EXPANSION HYPE” like a return to the days of CoF P1 farming? Pretty sure i ported right on top of you outside the dungeon last night actually, Miku xD

Hmmm no that couldn’t have been me because I wasn’t on GW2 at all yesterday aside from idly chatting in LA for about 10 mins before having left to play another game, had to have been somebody else

Was messing around a bit with with the warrior elite spec, using a condi build instead of a power build its pretty kittening good.
The might upkeep is decent if you use strength sigils and lose out on a bit of DPS by going PS, but i’ve been using it instead of a second elementalist alongside a PS war and its a huge DPS gain over an ele/engi, especially in fractals.

Its a really bursty build, with 8-11k burn ticks in a solo setting for 15 seconds, and up to 17-18k-ish burns in a group. It also does reasonable amount of bleeds and direct damage, giving it a huge DPS output.
It works best if things die within the 15 second berserk period, but when berserk is on cooldown it still does decent bleeds/burns.

Build : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vJAQNAsfTjMdQ3HW5B+dAnIWgCsjmQAIlpcE2d7g3Xbtd3C-TBSAABY8AAiZ/BsV+FwZAQa9BWr+DAHCg2UCGA4AY36W3dDM+4jP+4j3u7u7u7ubpAWUaE-e

Bandicam makes my screen flicker a bit, sorry for that.
For reference, 4 golem “kills” takes about 25-30 seconds, which is about the same as post-icebownerf staff ele

At like 50% HP, Mai Trin resets and spawns her “crew”.. iirc, the crew were 4 elite mobs, where 1 could 1 shot you! After you killed the crew, you have to drop her from 100% HP to 0 without any more phases.

I really dont want to sound entitled, as I’m perfectly okay with not getting the new maps, new classes, new skills, but it appears to me that core owners are left with less to do than before the expansion launched, when it should have stayed the same.

Also, where’s the Fractal Leaderboard v2.0 ?

After the last cannon phase she resets her HP and spawns 3 elite mobs. One does the teleport attack mai trin has, another is a mace guardian and another does vaults/burning speed. Her health will be full again but she does not have any more cannon phases.

I actually found the health reset really annoying because at that level bosses have so much toughness, it was just a snoozefest after we killed the mobs without cannon phases/kiting her into the fields.

They’re bringing a whole revamp to the fractal system, new loot tables, new rewards, new mechanics, new achievements, for me it’s just fair to have to pay for it. In fact, the experience you have in the fractals right now is not core game anymore. And for the time i’ve already spend in it (around 5 hours for the fractals only, and 20 total), it’s already worth it.

Now, fractals are even more fun IMO.

PSA time?

PSA time.

Haven’t even logged in since they announced reward nerf. I’ll be back to check out raids, but I don’t see myself sticking around much. Fully regret giving ArenaNet more money, if I could get it refunded I would. I love how they waited until after the betas ended, and days before HoT went live, to announce the shaft to PvE’rs…it worked, kittens got my money when they shouldn’t have.

Still laughing about their horsekitten “New!” FotM, lol. Same content, just more HP/DPS. Oh, and a couple of new adds at Mai Trin. Whoopdeedoo.

Dungeon nerfs are just kittened. “We don’t want to fix dungeons, we’ll just make it not worth your time to play the content you like.” gg.

“Just buy the box, and get new content like you’d see in an expansion delivered for free as part of the Living Story system.” lawls. Yeah, sure.

Others who are annoyed by this nonsense — give Wildstar another try. The F2P revamps have been great. The game had a rocky start, but it gets better and better (instead of worse and worse…) every patch. They’re working on some lag issues atm, but kitten , that game is solid other than that. I’d say it’s far, far ahead of GW2 in terms of content variety, diversity, and yeah, even quality. They fix kitten when it breaks.

What cracks me up the most is that WS is advertised as “ermagerd raidraidraid #hardcore”, and GW2 is “Living story ermagerd scarlet leylines lore storytelling casual”…and WS’s lore is better, deeper, and everywhere. Not just a couple 3-sentence “books” lying around DR, but actual in-depth lore and storytelling, both text and voice acted, literally lying around everywhere.

I was running Kel Voreth, the third dungeon, last night. Boss drops a “Kel Voreth Underforge FABkit” (FABkits are housing components). Intrigued, I went to my house (which is all decked out for Shade’s Eve/halloween), and put it in.

It’s a freaking entrance to a unique, scalable, 1-5 man minidungeon based on the regular dungeon. That’s right — a dungeon boss dropped a mini-dungeon. Installable to your personal housing plot. Dungeonception. Yo dawg, hurd u lik donguns. This game just keeps surprising me. I never saw myself getting into housing, but it’s hard not to when the systems are so full of awesome.

And honestly, I haven’t found a bad/obnoxious/tryhard/impatient pug yet (for the non-vet content, anyway) and I’ve been farming the hell out of those instances for a couple weeks now. There are readily available DPS meters, and you don’t have to worry about getting banned or deal with QQ from players who are scared of finding out that they aren’t pulling their weight. Even the forums have a significantly more mature tone to them, and the devs are active and responsive — even when they aren’t hyping a new expansion…

The more time I spend on Nexus, the more I regret playing GW2 for so long. It’s got everything.

Anyhoo, tldr check out Wildstar if you’re tired of this bullkitten with ArenaNet screwing the pooch at every turn. You might find what you’re looking for, and the game has improved significantly from even just a few months ago. And hell, it’s free now, too.

NoTrigger would be the one to ask for sure, but I’m not sure there really is one. They are a lot more, uhm, active when it comes to balancing PvE (read: They actually balance PvE), so classes seem to rise/fall relative to each other fairly regularly. I remember asking him about it before I started playing (I believe my question was “Are there any ‘necro’ classes?” xD), and all classes are fairly well accepted.

Here’s where we discussed a while back when they announced that F2P was in the cards: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/General-Dungeon-Discussion-Thread-Part-2/page/56#post5107001
Of course, now that I’ve tracked that down, I remember that you saw it the first time >.< Oh well, still good info for anyone who hasn’t seen it.

RandomGuy, Re: aesthetics, I hear ya, I had a similar feeling. I stopped caring completely (and actually started to like the style/scifi env) after I realized I was actually having fun playing a game again I’d say give it a shot and at least run a few dungeons. It’s free to play, leveling enough to try out Stormtalon’s Lair / Kel Voreth shouldn’t cost more than a weekend of solid playtime

I personally stay clear of that vile citadel, as it was the cradle for a spirit, which haunts tyria to this very day.
In it’s fires, deep below, a powerful entity emerged, ferocious by nature it peeked precisely into the souls of anyone, who wandered the citadel, thus corrupting their innocence and robbing them from any emotions.
Those souls now wander restless around Tyria, with nothing but cold calculations and brutal logic as their guides.

Why? There’s so much to do, especially if you want to do HoT masteries and hero points.

Have you tried adventures yet? Some of them are pretty fun, and they do give experience, loot, and map event participation.

Some of the hero point champs are pretty fun to fight, too, and hero point challenges are also on a daily event timer, giving you champ loot, area currency, a good chunk of experience and map event participation once each day (on top of the hero point for first time kill).

Quite a lot of events in the new areas are non-zergable (or at least much harder doing with a large, uncoordinated group), which in turn makes it easier to just do with few people (since those that don’t care to or don’t know how to learn the encounter won’t show up). You’ll find some fun fights in there.

Then there’s also the exploration part, trying to find your way to specific spots that are not obvious to reach is one of the things I’m having a blast with atm, but I understand that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

If exp gain is too slow for your liking, you might want to check out and do easy wvw dailies. Each wvw daily these days awards a 20 minute “+exp from all sources” buff to the character opening the chest (applied directly, so no stacking them for later use unfortunately) that can give you a good boost.

Agreed that the dungeon nerf was a complete unecessary and bad move. You don’t need to nerf it to have people move to other content. Arah P4 for 1 gold is a pure joke.

Even with the economy balance, it feels completly out of touch.

I tried some of the stuff out, not all of it is bad, by far not. I tried two adventures, one where you become a mushroom and have to do a checkpoint race (that wasn’t bad) and the shooting gallery in verdant brink, where I got kittened that at some point, the target spawns are randomized. But that’s just the HoT-part, if you want core masteries, you still have to do core stuff. I mean I only leveled my Fractal mastery from 5%~ into 2 to cap via CoF and did the rest with fractals and dungeons, but I don’t mind this since there’s nothing important for me to get anymore.

Oh and I’m generally a fan of exploration, but more often than not the maps just felt unnecessarily clustered and convoluted. Guess that’s a thing of just running enough there to get a feel for the maps though

You are correct, I have not logged in since they announced the reward nerf, and that was a couple of days before HoT went live.

I remember Bobby talking about how they were working to improve a lot of the storytelling and immersion in HoT, and noticed some of this when I was in the raid beta. Things are moving in a good direction there. But the core game, bleh. I eventually read the paperback GW books after playing GW2 a bit, and was like “Where is all of this in game?”. There is a lot of history and lore in Tyria, but it seemed like the base game just didn’t really communicate it.

The gods were just statues in Orr, the cutscenes were jarring and lacking compared to the rest of the world’s beauty, and the written lore was scarce and simple — at most, you’d get 3-4 sentences about something, and it wasn’t often. Then they left the personal story with gaping plot holes and out-of-order episodes for nearly a year without really even acknowledging it. It’s just sad for a game that’s trying to sell itself on its “living” story.

Meanwhile WS is trying to sell itself on being hardcore group PvE, and there are pages and pages of lore and flavor text literally everywhere, much of it voice acted as well.

Bit of a headscratcher in my opinion

But you’re right — I’m not talking about HoT, and I know they’re working on improving things there. I’m happy to hear that you’ve noticed it getting better.

Well, it is in fact, that’s why i think you should really give it a try :p Voice acting, hidden lore elements everywhere, kittenloads of references to GW1 in the new areas … There is many flaws in this game, but i honestly don’t think that the lore/art/environnement part is lacking. A lot of events have hidden voice acting, so in order to get them all, you’ll have to play them all (wich is nice).

About your comments on the gods, well, they’re supposed to be gone, if you have played Guild Wars Nightfall, you should understand why we don’t have anymore about them. Also Gnashblade > Kiell, because FREAKING ABADDON FRACTAL U_U

And the core game have plenty of hidden lore elements aswell, i don’t how much time you spent exploring, but i keep finding things that i missed after 3 years.

No, really, the only thing that i hate with this expension is the dungeon nerf.

When the GW licence was more confidential we also had this impression of Devs listening more. The fact is when you increase the player base there are more and more diverging opinions and it is harder and harder to split the “vocal” players and the majority. Now that WS went F2P it won’t necessarily remains so.

I actually like the new fractals, bosses just need more damage and some other minor changes. Maybe lower the price on keys, but at the moment you can still earn quite a lot by selling the encryptions

Tbh I think the toughness has to go down. I don’t care if they raise the HP to some degree in turn, but being forced into one type of damage sucks, especially now where they managed to put both types pretty much on par.

Some of the instabilities are annoying as kitten but yeah, they’re supposed to be so I’m not even arguing against that.

There’s some pretty good things in there, it just needs time to explore.

Understand why gold was lowered, but could the experience be upped or mobs be given better drop rates?

Even better, I loved the vanquished title in guild wars. Could a vanquish challenge be added where we have clear the dungeon of all baddies and score rewards based on the time it takes?

Ever since people have been dropping like flies leaving DnT Nike has been getting increasingly more BHB. Coincidence, cause or effect?

All 3 above?

Be rude and get rude responses.

I’m with Nike here, it’s really depressing coming on this subforum and all we see is people nitpicking. I was expecting to see some discussion about new builds, specs, coms but all I read were complaints, while I agree there is some issues, it’s a great expansion, with extremely engaging fights/mechanic. And while most dislike it, I enjoy the bigger health pool, bosses finally feels like bosses (I don’t like the weaker but faster attack however).

Also dev do listen to players, but unlike wildstar which is mostly hardcore players who wants challenging content, anet is trying to please all crowd from phiw and more dedicated players.

And also, I can probably finf 10 thread on wildstars’forum about how GW2 does thing better and vice versa, there’s no way to please everyone, both game are great.

I simply asked a honest question because I value this subcommunity opinion.

Anyone can go around and from time to time drop bitter/mean remarks like breadcrumbs for others to stumble upon and stare in awe, but we don’t do that right? Because we’re civilized. Maybe some people need to be reminded of such.

Trice, you may agree with Nike, but you’re far better at making constructive posts. You have an opinion on a subjective matter, and are capable of expressing it without insulting those who have don’t agree. Kudos. I’m honestly just getting annoyed with him preaching at me about forum etiquette and resorting to personal attacks and insults while doing so. Ironically, all this from a second account since his first has presumably been locked out of the forums for causing problems.

But well put, can’t really disagree with any of that. It is depressing to see pages of complaints, but it’s also upsetting to see existing content phased out and/or locked behind paywalls while the replacement isn’t even available yet. Raids are coming, but they’re not here yet, and it’s going to be a long while before they build up enough content through them to make up for lost time.

Players have a right to take issue with these decisions, and ArenaNet has the right to ignore them. I do wish the complaints would be expressed a little more constructively, but I understand why they aren’t — this forum has been an echo chamber for over two years, and putting together a well-formed complaint now just feels pointless.

As more of us leave for other games because of these changes, you’ll hopefully see less complaints. Attrition is not the best solution to the problems facing this game, but it’s the only real option that we, the players, have if we’re unhappy with the direction GW2 has taken.

My post was intended to summarize the issues people are complaining about (misleading advertising and paywall-gating for fractals, disincentivizing dungeons, and breaking their promise of “B2P with new content free through LS”) and let folks know that WS has changed a lot since they may have tried it last, enough to where it’s worth another look. If raids pan out and ArenaNet actually supports them and keeps them in good working order, we might come back. But until then, WS is, in my opinion, a much more appealing choice in light of the recent changes here.

But all Nike wants to hear is whining so that he can put me down and feel smug. I’d be quite happy to entertain his counterarguments if he could express them like an adult.

I just got a golden fractal weapon from the chest of doing 3 20-50 fractals. I thought those weapons should be hard to get and 50+ only???

Most people that are enjoying the content are actually playing right now. So i think its unfair to pick up on a few negative comments.

I am personally enjoying the new stuff way more than i thought i would. This is the first time in years ive actually genuinely looked forward to getting home so i can play a game. I was a pretty casual player previously so the story and exploration stuff is fun for me especially while its new.

Ive never really been a fan of open world. Even at gw2 original release i got bored of the open world experience and exploration quite quickly. But so far ive been really enjoying the maps and exploration in HoT. Its a completely different feeling. Only annoyance is getting confused and lost when trying to navigate towards certain map objectives. And the mastery gating is a little too grindy for my taste. But the maps and enemies are cool so it doesnt really bother me.
