As our next step in developing raids for Guild Wars 2, we have invited a few members of established guilds to help us test raids. We look forward to getting their feedback.
Selected members of the following guilds will be testing:
These guilds were chosen through referrals and we are not accepting testing applications. However, if we decide to expand the test in the future to invite more guilds, we’ll let you know!
That’s good to hear, thanks for letting us know something like this is happening.
No eu testing? :P
Congrats, [Att] and [DnT]!
I assume the testers are free to discuss the content, like in the case of the new WvW borderland testing?
Congrats, [Att] and [DnT]!
Try not to leak anything this time?
established guilds
Attuned [Att]
Huh
Good job attuning difficulty on top tier players /respect
I just think should extent the invite to the record runners too.
good luck out there guys o/
edit: oh boy, the challenging content may actually end up being challenging oh my bear!

What do Attuned do? Not heard of them until now.
No eu testing? :P
This round of testing is taking place during office hours with NA guilds.
Congrats, [Att] and [DnT]!

No, this is private testing and all participants are bound by NDA.

If you’re referring to an accusation that one of these guilds was involved in a “leak,” you should be aware that our team investigated the matter in depth and neither of these guilds was guilty of doing that.

they do world boss

Wurm & Tequila kills afaik.

Thats fair. Though i know some EU guilds which have people available at such hours. :P
Could you please specify why [Att] was chosen? Their guild does easy world boss kills and isn’t particularly involved in high-end instances. That seems like a really odd choice for testing 10-man content when there are much more accomplished dungeon and fractal guilds available.
Does it have to do with the fact that several members of Arenanet staff are members in [Att]?

They produced Wooden Potatoes! (j/k) They do Triple Wurm. They have some high level of coordination for such events so I’m not surprised at them being picked. Different perspectives are always good.
Ethereal Guardians [EG] is also a nice candidate, just saying
@Gaile: Thanks for your reply. I can’t help but waiting for the content to be released D;

Feel bad for some other speed clearing guilds who wanted to go for first world kill/s for raids.
As long as Anet ensure the raids are being tested with a full variety of professions/gear choices/builds, I don’t really care who is doing the testing – I’m just glad they are.
this makes me very very happy.
World first just lost its meaning.
Well there goes any fair Race to be the first to finish The raid. Maybe next time you try to test raids in general give as many guilds as you can the chance so there is not this big advantage to the ones invited.
I feel having this sort of race would be very healthy for The high end pve players.
Hope this doesn’t mean the content is gonna be tailored to the tastes of any specific guilds.

They did one of the first Triple Wurm kill and are pretty good at organizing large group of players.
Personally, I prefer that they test this new content with two perspective than by two guild with the same perspective.
So, you do select specific guilds to participate in tight closed beta tests.
And now I’m disappointed. Thanks, ArenaNet!

100% this.
While I respect DnT’s efforts in the game, my guild probably has alot more in common with a guild like ATT in terms of size, game philosophy, gear levels, etc.
It is good to see them included and I sincerely hope it adds some diversity and different perspectives to how the community/Anet defines raiding in GW2.
I don’t like the lack of confidence that Anet is presenting from both not being able to release raids during the release date and having to do closed beta tests with a week left from release.

This is not a public survey. It is perfectly reasonable to recruit QAs with a specific background so that they know what the QAs know and can bring to the table.
bound by NDA? Why even post this? Just to let everyone know they were passed over for something they never had a fair shot at being considered for?
Congratulations, selected [Att] and [DnT] members! I wish I could be out there with you guys, but alas I have not been selected and thus will continue doing my best over here. Thanks for the heads up, Gaile!

To let everyone know that ANet is serious about this being challenging group content to the point that they’re pulling people on to test it who would be among those to try and beat it in the first place. This is good for us to know.

Why? For transparency and as a means of communication, which I think we all agree is a good thing.
Too, I see some concerns about claims of world firsts. ArenaNet doesn’t track, verify, record, or reward world firsts. But making public that certain guilds were involved in testing seems appropriate and relevant in that context, does it not?

Transparency sure okay, I can get on board with that.
But alot of us were all to eager to test it Friday and Saturday night of the beta weekend and didn’t get to do that. Had multiple pre-made teams set up. But hey its beta stuff happens right?
Been a GW guild for 10 years now with accomplishments in both games.
Then we see this “hey these established guilds get to test it! No, there wasn’t an application process to consider guilds out side of these referrals on guilds that previously got to test. But! maybe just maybe, we will open up testing and you will get a fair shot at getting to test it too before release”
I guess just serve me with lime and call me salty because all the effort my guild and I have put in prepping for raids it would have at-least been nice to have a platform where all guilds could have been considered.
I think its a bit of a thin vial to care about transparency on something that we are not going to get to see, don’t have a chance of participating in, because of records you don’t even track.
That is just my opinion though. Test away. But this is kinda bad way to publicize it.

So long as neither guild claims world first for whatever they are testing, then I am fine with them being invited for closed beta. I’m also fine with Attuned being invited. Raids are going to be enjoyed by more than just the top dungeon guilds. Having input from a serious guild that isn’t one of the speedrun guilds is a good thing.
I do wish we got an open beta though. Still a little salty that east coast NA didn’t get a chance to test out the raid in bwe3 due to it going up after we were going to bed and the time extention didn’t last long enough for much of us to get back from work/school.

We aren’t going to release any videos, guides, etc for raids until multiple guilds have cleared the wing. Our goal is to preserve competition for all the guilds interested in progression and not spoil the fun of learning the fights by doing anything to taint that. We will do our best to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible in the raid, which is the whole point of having guilds invited to test these things.

in other MMOs, even if you got wf kills, what you did was post a screenshot and not upload any videos until multiple guilds killed the boss.
if you care about progression and wf kills, posting videos will result in more competition/rivalry, which is exactly what you dont want.
The problem with the people you picked is that you will get very biased opinions from a small portion everyone who will do the raid. Also they don’t have alot exp raiding or they don’t have exp raiding together.
Either give alot more people the chance to test them or invite people who have alot of exp raiding together to test it.

Thats not my point. My point was noone will take you seriously if you do get it and try to claim it. Since you get to test and prepare before everyone else.

Are you going to give up any claim to a world first too? If you’ve had insider testing of the content before anyone else, it’s pretty unreasonable for you to claim a world first on live.

if you or anyone else takes it serious or not is entirely up to you.
It would’ve been better if they extended one more BWE, but it’s all up to them. What I really hope is that, whatever meta arises it doesn’t suck like stacked zerker does nowadays, that would be the silent death of endgame PvE, before even coming to existence.
The idea is for only a few people to test them instead of it being like a open beta.
To piggy back off of this, recall how during each of the beta tests, the content was restricted so as to leave quite a bit to the imagination. In this case, only the beta testers will have seen what the raid content has in store.
Assuming the NDA they testers are under restricts them from talking about what they’re doing, then all of us will still get the chance to duke it out with these raid bosses and figure out the tactics on our own. And in that respect, should count as a meaningful first kill.

I have to say I don’t agree with the last statement. This post essentially sounds like “Neener neener, look what these guys are playing and you aren’t”. As Mireles put it, it’s not like the rest of the community had a shot at it to begin with.
On a personal note, I don’t think these kind of guilds should be the standard to base raid difficulty on. I absolutely DON’T want any content that is only beat by stacking as many damage multipliers as possible, which is what these guilds seem to only be capable of doing. It’s boring, and it only incentivizes more “berserker meta” playstyles.

Right so just ignore my point again.

I should make it clear that no one testing will be allowed to video, screenshot, or otherwise record or document any test content whatsoever, whether for use immediately or for future use. That is part of the NDA.
Any guild posting about raids will gather information, screenshots, videos, and all resources only from the released, live game and never through access to a test server.
World’s first head transplant. World’s first water powered car. World’s first civil cartoon cat/mouse political debate.
These things would be newsworthy. World’s first raid kill is not. No one outside of a very tiny number of people cares.
Test my game and make sure it is fun before my guild goes in. That is what I care about.

That’s not the concern. The concern is that DnT will have advanced access to test and practice the mechanics of the raid. They’ll then be able to use that advantage to claim a world first clear on live.
It’d be like giving one runner in the olympics a 5 second head start, then claiming he’d won a world record.
