Yea, I can agree dungeons are hard but what fun would it be if it was easy? When I first started dungeons at AC I died maybe 20 times a run, but the more practice I got the fewer times I died and several other factors began to contribute to my success. The undeniable fact is that you’re going to die, but if you know how to play dungeons you can prevent yourself from dyeing a lot less. However the only issue I see in dungeons at the moment are the poor rewards you get out of them (unless the recent update changed that) but other than that I enjoy the difficulty of the dungeons. Below is a guide on how you can have fun and succeed in dungeons.

Be Prepared!

Don’t walk into dungeons like you would with events. Be sure that your skills are set up the way you want, your armor is as tuff as it can be, and have a weapon that can deal very high damage. I found AC to be much easier with level 80 gears rather then maybe level 40 gears. I was able to sustain 2 or 3 extra hits from mobs. (Bosses still have the power to one shot those but you can normally see those coming). Also, if you’re joining a random party, be sure to discuss a game plan before taking action. Someone who has done that dungeon before may know what best to do. Another good advice is to choose the healing skill that removes conditions so you won’t take as much damage from poison or bleed.

Be Supportive!

If someone drops next to you, Res him if you can unless you’re taking direct hits from mobs or bosses. Also, don’t have any skills that only give you boons. If you’re going to use boons make sure they benefit the entire party such as banners. Finally if you’re able to absorb blows that would kill your team mate but keep you alive, take the blows.

Follow Your Profession!

If you are a class meant to have a sword, then use it instead of the rifle. Let’s say if you are a warrior don’t constantly use rifles or guns, instead get in close and deal as much damage as you can and at the same time avoid taking damage. If you find your health getting low to the point one more hit will kill you, then back up and use rifles and bows but only long enough for you to get your health back up.

Learn To DODGE!!!!

The key to success in dungeons is to know when and how to dodge, if you see a read ring around you, forget about your opponent for a minute and roll out, it’s usually those that kill you. If you plan on fighting a boss, discuss with your team how you plan on taking them out. They usually have a weakness. For the bow guy with the hounds in AC his weakness are slash attacks so to fight him we composed our team of 3 rangers to deal with the hounds or him at a distance and 2 fighters to get him up close. Most of the time the one hit kill moves that does 20k damage give some kind of warning that its coming. Learn you opponents moves and act accordingly.

That’s all I have to say on the matter. Trolls go ahead and troll. Others, if you’re going to post negative comments at least make it constructive.

find a time machine and you will get more fun.
Dodge is even more useless in dungeons now. in an effort to be constructive, let me give an example. The golem at the start of the CM run. he does a barrage of rockets which take out nearly all health if not all. now on my run i was playing particular attention to this attack, and the first time he launched, i dodged, he followed it up with a second which i dodged again. he then followed up with a third, i cant dodge anymore. my health goes right down, i immediately hit heal, during which he launches a 4th round of rockets, i’ve not even been able to heal yet, i’m stillcasting, not that it matters because i would have not healed enough to survive a second hit straight away. how am i supposed to counter tactics liek this?

again today i go down to a champion lieutenant. as a thief i try and shadow step as far as i can. the lieutenant is rooted. yet she still hits me.
fair enough maybe i’m still in range, i shaowstep away again while still downed and she still hits me and she still hasnt moved and the same thing happens again!
i moved away 3 times as far as i could. i’m wel out of longbow range, party members who were trying to get me up were being taken down, and she hadnt moved once!
there is no way to combat that

That right there is going to turn off most of the casual players.. esp if you’re suggesting to do it at lvl 80… that’s like what? avg 2~ silver or so repair cost x 20? 40 silvers for an attempt that may or may not succeed…. not happeneing, esp not with the horrible end rewards right now.

Agreed, the money cost’s on repair’s for death’s in dungeon’s is just not covered by the loot / rewards. I mean, even getting around the map’s cost’s are silly just because you leveled. No need for this kind of money sink in a game that struggling to give people money for all their adventuring.

Ran my first Dungeon last night, and I am totally turned off of the game right now. I see nothing “difficult” about mobs having a million HP, aggro everywhere and no rewards. To those that enjoy this type of thing that’s good on them, it’s not my style (this is my first crack at Guildwars, never play GW1). Back to the trinity for me, at least I was useful in my Tank or healer role. I’ll just play around with the WvW here since there’s no sub fees.

Dodge is really not working out very well now. I consider myself a pretty good gamer, I take my time and do my research. I was having no problems in dungeons until these changes. I was dodging like crazy today, and still getting destroyed, because the mobs hit WAY too hard now. I understand ANet wanting to up the difficulty, but I think they went overboard.
