I rarely… I never buy/use foods I genuinely don’t see the point behind them. Then again I always play with randoms and don’t see the point in spending 2 – 3G on food just to have the chance of some of it going to waste.

Last night I was playing with a group of people though and they got terribly upset that I wasn’t using any food going so far as saying leave the dungeon and get some. I ended up getting squash butternut or something ~20s ea? Sure we got through the fight but I feel the food wasn’t really worth it as it mostly just added precision and a little vitality.

So again how useful are foods and I guess what food should I get, if any, that will be useful?

I never use food, a powerful slaying potion is enough, especially when stacking damage modifiers.

For soloing things though, like my failed lupi attempts and champ risen giant which I did recently, I use the 100+ precision, 10%+ crit damage food plus slaying potion.

I keep a bunch of dragon candies (the 20min cheap lifesteal food) in my inventory for places where the regen is useful. I use minotaur steak (prec critdmg food which used to be really cheap) for casual runs.

The best foods are the Curry/Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash soups, but they are (especially sweet n spicy) pretty pricey so I don’t use them too often.

Can’t say I’ve ever really noticed a difference between no buff and having food plus utility. I usually don’t use anything and I don’t do dungeons that frequently so I often end up forgetting until part way through (or sometimes completely through!) the dungeon. There has never been a ‘Wow! This is much better.’ moment. I still use them when I remember mainly because in theory it is better.

I really don’t play to get huge amounts of gold it is nice sure, but honestly I don’t know why I play really just the satisfaction of beating a dungeon.

10 – 15% damage increase would be amazing but like I said I play with randoms and most time they probably aren’t using foods either so again it would feel like a waste if I am putting everything into it just to carry them a little bit DPS wise.

In organized groups I am sure you all pile the foods on and just melt everything. I want to be an efficient player and see those high numbers, but I hate having the feeling I am the most useful person in the group.

Candy Dragon gimmicks are the default food you should use in casual runs. More perception is rarely bad, and you heal about 300 per second which is noticeable. Costs like 75c which is nothing for a guy about to get at least 1.26g for completing the dungeon.

You don’t need to use the best food, any food is better than nothing.

Hell, even if you use level 1 food, you still get a 10% exp bonus. It’s not a bad idea to buy food that costs up to 1s per 30 minute buff, so check out the level 50-70 versions of the food that has the stats you prefer.

Just get cheap foods if you’re worried about your money expenditure. Blackberry Pies are a decent lifesteal food and cost like 3c per. Chocolate Cherries give 26% MF and are also around that price. Still remaining within the acceptable price range, Slices of Candied Dragon Rolls are less than 1s and give the best possible lifesteal stats, same as Omnomberry Pies, except with a shorter duration. There’s also Dragon Buns which give +10% crit damage and +200 power on kill, which are also fairly cheap.

I craft my own food and even I don’t generally use my best stuff on PUGs (although if people are dying all over the place, dramatically increasing boon duration for extra protection on the group is worth it to me to pay the omnomberry cream price). I do use SOMEthing though. A lot of it is super cheap to buy or make, so I don’t see why you wouldn’t.

You have literally no reason not to use this and Slaying potions. It’s MAYBE 2 silver for a single run.

You hate feeling like you’re the most useful person in the group? That’s the most backwards thing I’ve ever heard; imagine if everyone thought that way? Literally no one would pull their weight due to not wanting to be the only person pulling their weight, in contrast to everyone just pulling their weight in the first place, and then there will be no dead weight to carry.

Or maybe that’s too logical…

Do you perhaps run Clerics and RP walk from mob to mob?

And regardless of the subtraction of 200 power, it’s still an additional 10 crit damage, which for 80 copper, is cheaper than, and will benefit progression more than… magic find food.

I definitely don’t have 6 stacks of Candied Dragon Roll in my bank and a stack on each character…. It’s pretty much the best price to reward ratio I can find and would only change to the super expensive stuff for a record, which I don’t do anyway xD
Also slayer potions are an absolute must, I buy the Powerful versions and use the weaker tier ones if I find them.
But in like… Crucible of Eternity you’ve got something like 3 types of enemies, so I don’t really see the point in a slayer potion. And I’m not too sure about AC, don’t you need a Ghost Slaying Potion? I don’t even know.

Mental checklist:

AC1 – It will be up for Queen, Burrows, and perhaps intermittently during final boss (I’m unsure if tagging an add that runs into a flame circle procs it, otherwise not) [2/3 combat events]
AC2 – It will be up for Queen, defending Detha at pillars, but not for end boss [2/3 combat events]
AC3 – Queen, Burrows, more Burrows, but not end boss [3/4 combat events]

CoF1 – It will be up for Slave Driver, anything after the first Acolyte in Acolyte room, and at totems, but perhaps only Effigy for a short time [3/4 combat events]
CoF2 – Devourers, Burrows, and the two rooms atop the ramp, as well as defending Magg and final boss [6/6 combat events]
CoF3 – Active while clearing torches, trash leading to first champ, and the defend event; likely not maintainable for champ drake and end boss [3/5 combat events]

HotW1 – Opening trash, turrets, maybe Troll, plus the trash and boss after the troll will be permanent uptime, but you will lose it at Ginva [3/5 combat events]

SE1 – Should be active on first two bosses, 66% uptime on Golem trio, down on last boss [call it 3/4 combat events]
SE3 – First boss, Zadorojny after you kill one of his many escorts, and Destroyer if he spawns an add pretty early to keep uptime from killing Zadorojny [3/4 combat events]

Meh typing this on a cellphone is a joke. I’d keep going but I don’t care so much. Yeah, it’s situational. But as you can see it’s still got a pretty good (minimum 50% combat events) uptime if you’re not RPing walking inbetween mobs killed with Cleric gear.
