Raid Bug Corrected
Hi there Raiders!
I’m from the Analytics team; a group of people who review what you do in game with the data you leave behind. We’re sometimes referred to as Business Intelligence or BI.
First, a little background to the methodology we used. We reviewed all of your play throughs and were able to identify each of you who were affected by this bug. What was interesting is that we found some parties where some players got a Legendary Insight, while other didn’t. Was this a result of the reward bug or was this due to weekly resets? Afterall, Monday was not affected by the bug. A few thousand of you would have been eligible, but this didn’t feel right.
So we reframed the question; How many raiding parties likely were affected by this bug? This increased the number of potentially affected players by more than 20%. We knew that this would include people who play repeat raid wings and who, in reality, wouldn’t be affected by this bug because they werent’ eligible. But we also realize that you will play with others who would be eligible. Should a player who played Gorseval on Monday, and recieved their weekly reward, receive this gift when they played on Tuesday? What about when that player noticed that others in their Tuesday raid recieved a gift and they didn’t? Maybe you didn’t get LI, but you should’ve got something, right?
We chose to err on the side of a larger number. This gift wasn’t going to impact the economy, so we felt that we’d rather apologize to all players who were in raiding parties that were affected rather than risk upsetting a sizable subset of you. This was also why we chose not to give out LI.
I don’t like pointing fingers, but it seems that this large number is likely what was to blame. Most of you we identified did receive what was promised and some haven’t yet taken the items from their mail. But, it turns out, some of you simply didn’t get our in-game mail. Sentinel, Baseraver, and Wilz, you helped us, just by being you, to identify that we had a different bug affect you. Of the thousands upon thousands of players who were deemed eligible, it seems the system we used to send in-game mail failed to send to more than a thousand of you.
It is regrettable that any of you may have been missed. Please be aware that neither Gaile, the CS team, nor Anet in general lied about giving you the gift we promised. Reading through this thred, however, made it clear that something else may have broken.
I’ve worked with the CS team specifically to re-identify those of you who feel you were promised but not delivered an apology. Another round of gifts will be going out – though there’s no change in what is being sent.
So why did it take us this long to correct this? Believe it or not, we had to collect more data from you before we could act, and that takes time; several days in this case.
Please accept our apologies for the frustration you have experienced.
See. This is the stuff i’ve come to expect from Anet. Excellent communication, no excuses and a resolution. Thanks for being awesome yall.

Hello,
In case additional data can help, here is what happened for me.
-On the 20th, I started raiding 3 hours after the patch hit.
-45 minutes in my group killed sloth, none of us got loot
-After that we killed trio and did get loot
-I personnally did not receive the mail. Some members of my group did, but I believe they also raided on the 21st, so maybe that is why they got it and I did not.
Thanks for your communication! It is really great to have people from Anet regularly updating us and giving details about what happened.

Well, thanks for the insight. Considering how much work and stress you guys have to go through I will accept any outcome whether the new system considers me/ us to be eligible or not. Since there was something broken in the system: Rest assured that I, personally, wont accuse you of anything again. After all, this gift was meant to be an apology. I was just extremely angry and it got to me. I really love this game you people keep working on and me playing still after all these years is proof enough.
So if the new system doesnt count me as eligible for the gift for whatever reason, I`ll just accept it this time and let you guys work on more important things.
Thank you for everything and I`m sorry for having been rude. Wont happen again.
I’m asking about this, in case there’s some oddity in the data that might have resulted in eligible people not making the list. From what I was hearing as the review was being done, the parameters sounded really good to me, and in fact erred on the side of generosity. But I take on board you have questions, and I’ll see if there’s anything that could have resulted in a few … what would I call them?.. false negatives?
Thanks for your patience and the information you’re sharing.
Our Analytics Team is awesome, and they’re going to take a look.
Some people in my raid group got compensations and I didn’t. We raided right after the patch together, starting with W3. Escort produced normal rewards, KC didn’t, we decided to try W4 in case it’s a “KC-related” bug. We killed Cairn, didn’t get any loot either and disbanded the group. I don’t see how only select members of the same team can be eligible while others aren’t.
I also submitted a support ticket yesterday, no response, no in-game mail.

Thank you for your honest words! I don’t think it was ever in our intention to claim that any of you is lying but as you can see something wasn’t right and I’m glad I could help In the end all of us are human beings and mistakes can happen, especially when you have to deal with a couple of thousands of players!
Therefore if you had a successful raid kill during the time frame and got suitable loot drops for any such/said kills, you do not qualify for the compensation? Is that correct?
I hope so because there is no reason for someone to get a compensation who got all rewards from all killed encounters. And I also hope nobody here is whining because he/she didn’t get a compensation although rewards weren’t buggy for them. That just feels wrong.
Weird stuff about the compensation.
My raid group has a few people that fullcleared on monday (before the bug).
They all got their compensation after raiding again with the remainder of us on Wednesday.
The ones who only raided on Wednesday and had our Matthias loot bug out did not get their compensation which seems really strange.
I, as quite a few others still haven’t received any compensation, tho I have several raid hero logs showing my participation in a successful raid (on several bosses) on Wednesday 21st.
I’ll wait for now, since you guys (thanks a lot for your hard work <3) mentioned that another round of compensations will go out soon. However, should none arrive I guess I’ll just contact CS (which will be flooded by tickets still, I presume).
Just figured I’d add to this- my static killed several bosses on Wednesday 6/21. None of us received the mail, and some members did not get loot.
Hi,
well it’s interesting to follow this discussion – since I too was raiding on tuesday evening (EU) and was hunting for the achievment for Envoy armor II. So I did a couple of Cairn kills and while the first kill the loot bug got to me (other did get the loot), the second kill was denied by crashing the whole instance. At that point I had to stop raiding for the day and didn’t went back to until until it was fixed. At the end I got my kill (and loot) on saturday, but as far as I understood I would still be eligible for the gift.
There seems to be the second bug hitting – but I’m really glad it could be found and now it will be interesting if I really will be found worthy of the gift or not. Also I think it was a good decission to increase the number of eligible players because I know quite a number of raiders who help other on their boss kills even through they have killed already every boss after the reset and reached the shard cap.
The real reward during the discussion was the statement Jeremy. It was honest, considering and straight forward. I mean not to critisise you Gaile you are provided some information from the other and of course think this is the (whole) truth. Still sometimes also the players are right and (another) bug occured – so trying to finding and fixing it will always improve the game and I think no one out there will deny it if they are honest.
So thank Jeremy for the statement, thanks Gaile for following this thread and responding to us players – and maybe even thank you for the gift ;-) (future will determine that).
At the end I got my kill (and loot) on saturday, but as far as I understood I would still be eligible for the gift.
No, you should not because you got your weekly loot. There is no point in getting additional stuff.
If somebody hasn’t gotten their rewards for a specific boss, it’s ok to get a compensation otherwise not!

Thats not what Anet said. All that matters is whether or not you completed a raid boss during the bug.

He certainly does, because Anet said they will send the rewards to everyone that raided during the time bug was up. Not just those that were directly affected by it.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
We had the issue with our raid group that we killed KC and got the cut scene and all that but nobody received any rewards. Problem is that we have had a few people in our raid group receive the compensation rewards while other have not. I’ve asked them and the ones who got the rewards and none of them attempted any other bosses during that week. So I’m not exactly sure how some members of our raid group can qualify for the rewards while others don’t?

As Jeremy Brown stated, there seems to have been another bug (?) going around that excluded some players from the distribution process. They already said they are actively going to do more research and gift all players who have been affected by this second bug which is an entire different story. And since they are all human beings with a life who might live in other timezones you will have to hold still for a few days as he stated because this cant be done within a few hours.
Just be patient for now.

I don’t entirely disagree, but was just asking for clarification based on their announcement. Also, the people I did group with and who got compensated indicated they did not miss out on any normal loot during the timeframe, despite the bug being active elsewhere in the game. So I am just asking for criteria clarification to better understand if I should follow this issue any further.
On the other hand, some people getting the usual exotic trash and one LI on the same kill as people missing just that same roll means that those who might walk away with missing less than 5gp in value of drops for as little as a single kill get compensated with a 70+ gp chest or legs (because those are easily the best value thing to pick)? But people that got a normal trash drop (poor quality roll) on the same kill end up with the usual trash? Sorry, but one LI isn’t worth a chest/legs piece. I get that they may want to avoid double rewarding folks that maybe already rolled some kind of ascended gear on that normal roll, but I know people who got ascended gear from their kills in that time AND got compensated too. Seems like aNET erred on the side of generosity but just ran into some analytics and mailing issues.
Finally, if the intent was to only distribute to those missing 1 or more loot rolls, it should have been explicitly stated that way. As stated, it created confusion that all participants in a successful kill during the time frame would get this mail. That statement seemed to imply that they didn’t have the time/interest/roi to delve down to specific drops and it wouldn’t break the economy to be a bit more generous to act on what would probably be a broader and easier analysis.
There seems to be a question, and I will clarify with Jeremy. However, I believe that the gift still would be sent to people who successfully completed a boss encounter. I didn’t think that the gift would be sent to anyone who entered a raid, no matter the activity or the outcome. But again, I will check with Jeremy to be sure everyone knows the details. Thanks.

The initial statement was : "We’ve reviewed our data for the active period of the bug, and are making a one-time distribution to those who participated in at least one successful raid boss encounter between the patch on June 20 and the hotfix on June 22. "
From my comprehension , as long as you raided during the given time period AND successfully completed one of the raid boss encounters (DURING THAT PERIOD) you will be compensated.
Following the statement and considering he still went through the frustration of raiding during the time with the “Bugs”, he should still be compensated.
Furthermore , more of my raid group got their compensation but still not all . Thank you for not just dropping the subject and much appreciation for Jeremy’s efforts to resolve the situation !
Here are a few updates for you:
- Some people have received their gifts, and others are waiting. We appreciate your patience as we sort through the process. In fact, the distribution will take time, because each review is a rather “manual” process.
- Because it’s a manual process, I do not think that distributions will be made on the weekend. Again, we really appreciate your patience and understanding!
- Yes, you must successfully have completed a raid boss encounter during the time the bug was live in order to get a gift. Not all raiders are eligible, but those were are eligible have been or will be taken care of.

Honestly, this whole thread is why we can’t have nice things. In the future, ANet, consider just fixing the bug affecting players and not dealing with sending people stuff. I don’t think anyone in the beginning was seriously going to lose sleep over some missed loot, especially when the bug was fixed fast enough to still be able to complete the boss in the same week.

Kinda agree but ehh i apreciate their generocity on that matter.
Then they should fix their metrics and don’t act like amateurs. Something hasn’t changed since years.
Btw. I fullcleared on Monday but I was also raiding in the time span of the bug and killed several encounters, so I’m eligible to get a compensation that strong?
Cool, I’m also waiting now, k, ty, bb.

umm I have to disagree. ANet is being decent and thorough. The entire point of this thread is that we get to have a nice thing out of a bad thing. You’re not being appreciative
You’re not being appreciative
It has nothing to do with being appreciative or not; I just feel bad for how much effort ANet has to put into something like this when a simple apology would’ve done just as well.
Just received mine.
Thank you, much appreciated
Hi,
More information about the bug occurence for my group, which may help find why a lot of people didn’t get the free armor but claim they were eligible. It happened on the tuesday, we started raid approx at 18:00 CEST (after updating the client if I remember well).
For us, the bug happened on Matthias. When we killed him, he disappeared but nobody in the team got a chest (neither bouncy chest with magnetite, nor big chest in the room). We went on to Wing 3 and came back to Matthias after that. The exact same thing happened again.
What’s more interesting here is that when we came back with all same players, the boss was there again along with his pre-event, as if we never killed him. So there is a good chance that the kill was not registered at all as a bugged successful kill, which would explain why we were not found eligible for the ascended armor.
Meanwhile, a lot of other players who talk about the bug, got no reward on VG, Gorseval or KC … so basically they were able to move on to next boss, proving that they did kill the previous one.
In short, is it possible that your detection queries missed the people who got the bug on the last bosses of wings (Sabetha, Matthias, Xera, Deimos) ?
Just receive mine, that was really kind of you.
Thank you for always being there for us and for your hard work!

Have a great weekend!

Yeah, I believe the bug is due to two things : some Squad bug which made player not count as part of the squad though there were in the same instance – which would explain why only some people of a squad received the mail through the first roll – and then the bosses-marked-as-not-cleared bug for members affected by the squad bug. Because we killed the VG (didn’t get my chest, but some did), and were able to carry on. But when I opened the instance again on my own, the VG was back with its pre.
Thank you very much Gaile & Jeremy (+the whole BI team) for your efforts!
a simple apology would’ve done just as well.
Have to disagree again. Simple apology would work but not “just as well”. ANet decided to be extra and take their apology to another level, and instead of “okay” we can say “awesome!”

If you bugged, the game simply didn’t count the kill for you, so your personal counter for that wing remained at the previous state. Killing any further bosses would not increase it – you’d still be counted as missing the early part of the event chain, and thus would start the new instance at the point when bug kicked in for the first time. In the initial instance, however, the boss was dead (even if it wasn’t counted for you personally), and thus you were able to move to the next event in the chain. In short, the game reacted as if you were dc’d during the kill.
Thus, the team can’t just check your boss kill history for that week – it’s entirely possible it was completely clean if you bugged at each boss. They must check if you attempted any raids in that time, and then check the instance logs separately for whether the boss got killed.
Or at least i assume that’s what is happening.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I got the escort reward but not the MO reward while most in the guild already completed it.. Was on the Thursday of the raid bug days
Have to disagree again.
Agree to disagree then.
Thread’s been quiet for a while now. Any news on the second distribution ?

So I never did the raids during the time they were bugged three weeks ago. But I still received an ascended chest just now. Usually I do full raid clears with my guild on Monday and all the bosses dropped their loot for me. After a patch later on that week the raid bosses stopped dropping loot for a while, but since I didn’t raid while the bug was active it didn’t affect me. It was quickly fixed before the next weekly raid reset. So I got a free ascended armor chest which is pretty nice although I don’t think it was intentional?
