I did a dps check at dredge scale 32.

Results… grab a warrior banner or elementalist conjured weapon to maximize dps.

Edit: If you fight Bloomhunger pick up the stick on the ground to spike at the end. It does higher dps than ranger weapons and it is good practice for doing eviscrate as a warrior when you decide to reroll you will be ready.

The thread is meant as a satire in case you don’t realize it. Their weapons skills and choices are underwhelming, they have very little utility value, pets have poor survival and mechanics, and their dps is ok if the pet is actually attacking and alive but can’t match up to other classes. The dungeon community is very skeptical of Rangers and believe that Rangers are on the bottom end of the PVE imbalance and require changes from ANET.

Some really love their Ranger and defend it to death. For those Rangers, I’m looking for evidence to support your view of being a productive part of a group leading to fast and efficient runs. Please prove that we are wrong and they are as good as the “best” classes in a group setting. Even if you find they are not, please provide us with some optimal clean runs with the class to show that there is an imbalance for ANET to hopefully fix or at least show players how they can best play the class other than jump on every rock/platform available and auto attack and do nothing but spam a bow throughout every dungeon like the overwhelming majority of pug Rangers do. A way to prove so is making videos with 2+ Rangers in the group at fractal 48 bosses and comparing them to my normal runs I made for my guide which you can find here http://www.youtube.com/user/obal100 or just running something other than CoF path 1 which requires some degree of skill and coordination like Arah.

Important for people trying to give rebuttal:
- The videos should have 2+ Rangers in the group if you try this.
- Math is a great thing but excel spreadsheets don’t account for many things so support your claim with videos
- Soloing open world bosses won’t show your usefulness to a group in a dungeon so none of that either please. Same thing for hitting dummies (warriors did even less damage for my tests below but it took awhile for anyone to figure that out lols)

All I see is that rangers can use environmental weapons better then they can use their own.

Wow, does this mean that “DPS Rangers” need a warrior or elementalist to get their maximum DPS?

My warrior hits for 4k banner autoattack on lupicus. This either means dredges have more armor than lupicus or ranger dps still remains kitten.

If you haven’t yet, look at the first attachment, 3164 atk, 68% crit chance, 120% crit damage, that is on par with a berserker warrior in full exotics/ascended

It wouldn’t matter what his gear is. He would still be doing more damage with the Banners etc. Think logically and you shall understand.

But it’s pretty clear you’re new to the class and have yet to catch on to some of the differences between it and other classes. For example; unlike warrior’s Utility-dependence, Ranger is heavily Trait-dependent almost to the point of malfunction. You’re not going to do well running without them, and I’d recommend against upscaling a Ranger whenever possible.

Additionally the core concept for these weapons are different from what you may have come to expect, and you need to play them differently to get the most out of them. For example, Sword builds up might stacks on the pet. If you’re not using it with an aggressive F2 you’re sort of missing out. If you’re having problems micromanaging a pet’s survival long enough that you can’t go in with Sword and make the most of the might building, you shouldn’t be switching to bear, instead consider devourers and spiders while you’re still figuring things out as might stacks affect their condition based auto-attacks and F2s.

Dungeons are anti-pet, so you you have to play Rangers like Warriors. If pets, say, dodged when you dodged it would be a different story. No amount of micromanaging a pet will keep it alive from boss AoE.

remember your dammage depends on
1)your stats which you checked

My point is; you have to take pet survivability on a case-by-case basis and avoid terrible outliers dictating your willingness to work and adapt.

Seeing the Aetherblade’s laser room reduce your pet to a buff bot else being crispy fried is genuinely disheartening, but that’s not license to throw a melee pet at Melrona and say ‘oh well I tried’, or keeping the pet to heel on the multitude of loot pinata bosses like Wraithlord that are so nonthreatening we have to check the wiki to remember their names.

Also, the only explanation I have for my odd successes in that regard is that the Ice-AOE must have a five person limit which gets hit by virtue of stacking. Just swap frequently enough to mitigate the damage of the earth spike/flameblast, and don’t use a ranged pet that incurs the wrath of dragon’s tooth.

Holy crap those are really high base stats. Is there a class that would do better with having really high stats compared to having more traits?

The truth is, ranger DPS is so pitiful, they do more damage hitting enemies with the warrior banner, the end.

I dont know what the coefficient is for warrior banners but lightning hammer is high enough to make eles do more damage with it than with daggers. Truth is mesmers do less damage than rangers but their utility allows them to come in groups while a ranger has warhorn buff and it ends there.

Actually, after seeing the picture of a ranger doing more DPS with a banner they will nerf Orr.

When in doubt, nerf Orr.

Obviously banner damage is going to get nerfed like everything else that made Rangers suck less.

The sad thing is: While a mesmer has things like Focus 4/5 or blured frenzy, banner of discipline has roughly the same utility than ranger GS or S/WH…

It’s nothing new, rangers and mesmers do more damage with lighting hammers.

Unfortunately it breaks on 1 hit. That’s why you should use it at the end and for practice.

I really hope Anet has seen this thread. It’s funny, but being able to do more damage with an oakheart branch and a warrior banner than your class’s actual weapons is just wrong.

Definitely one of the best threads in a while. Need to buy some wooden planks to take with my Ranger everywhere I go now.

Yeah I just tried but they can’t be bought. I did it on level 29 ranger with level 24 gs and did 150 crit vs frying pan 200 crit. It seems to be like the other things but this test doesn’t meet the seal of approval.
