I’d take either way. I doubt that it can be done without exploiting it.
Near impossible, luck based content seems to be popular among MMOs these days. Reminds of of Final Fantasy XI’s Neo-Nyzul where if you see anyone wearing the armor from it, you know that 99% of the time they used exploits.
Got home for work and ran it. Died 2 times for the bomb planting part, but eventually got it. CoF isn’t ridiculously hard, but it’s definitely not a lame 10min run anymore.
Well it is just +1 min run compared to pre-patch…
Haven’t recorded doing it, but it’s doable. The hardest part is honestly the lava crossing for us because its just plain buggy. It’s about just being able to push hard and take the mobs down quickly to move Magg along.
The bomb room is actually fairly easy. We kill the first two spawns and then are forced to kite the rest. The last time we ran it we only had one death. We just use pets, D-Golems, and Fear Me among other things to kite the room around. The D-Golems are actually useful for soaking up a lot of aggro for a fair amount of time.
Our group is made up of a Guardian, Elementalist (Supporty spec), and 3 Warriors (2 are shout heal specced). I don’t think I’d attempt this with a full pug group anymore.
Also, I call complete BS on the people saying its +1 minute compared to the pre-patch. The bomb room is a full extra 100 seconds added to the time. Then escorting Magg across the room takes far longer than the old method of one person running across. Nothing else has changed in the dungeon really. That said, it’s still a sub-25 minute run, because we were hitting the DR from another dungeon we ran right before (AC).

Well, the lava part has changed nothing for me atm. At least for our tactic. So the only thing that makes it longer that Magg’s defusing or whatever he is doing…
Allegedly people are using an Elementalist to do the Magg run. Basically you run across with everyone. Magg will follow and eventually die somewhere in the middle. Then your Elementalist will use an air attuned glyph of renewal to rez Magg on your location.
I haven’t tried this method personally, but it’s how a few people have claimed doing it. The regular group I far dungeons with does include an Elementalist, so we’ll probably try this out tomorrow.
I did a couple of runs yesterday, when it doesnt bug its doable. Of course that is if you dont fight in the kite room and your team is full of warr guards
See, it’s obvious that you’re lying rhodoc because even the dev said that it is changed in a way that makes your statement a blatant lie. Magg has to be escorted across the lava (provided he doesn’t walk INTO the lava and become perma-dead) and will agro everything along the way.

Whats the biggestkitten of is the lame anti run same instance more times. FIRST time i actually manage to get to end boss with a group (as many failed on kite and lava) i got 2.6s seriously this dosent cover my 50+ s in repairs i had. Yea sure i understand that learning a instance should cost nothing wrong with that. But when i finish it i should make it back.
Give back the 26s reward for a full run like it was or lower it to 20 15 but dont use the LAME diminishing returns tactic.

It is 26s if it’s your first (and I believe 2nd) kills of the day. If you’ve already cleared it multiple times, then your money reward at the end is much less.
It’s much easier and far less stressful to simply do 1 or 2 Magg runs a day and move on to something else. You won’t get burned out on how ignorant the changes are, and you’ll still get max reward for your time investment.
Sojou the fact that its 26s for first full clear is not right like i said i only got like 4 something silver for my and then 2.6 the second and this is first full clear after patch i did also first clear after reset during night did not reset the CASH it still gave me 2.6 will see now if i get 26 when i go :P so it sems its based on how many instances you start.
This is quite bad as grifers could exploit this as when leader leaves everyone gets kicked out.

I’ll have a video up as soon as my group wakes up and it’s transfered and recoded to youtube. Someone will probably beat me to it though.
It’s not that difficult honestly. What we usually do is run to the Ore together, kill everything we’ve aggroed on that ledge, then go back and revive Magg where ever he fell down. (he never makes it) then he reaches the node. Port from there.
As far as the Bomb room and the Dev and players who say they are killing the adds. Yeah…that aint happening. That I do want to see a video of.
Overall yes it got a little harder but what stings the most is that you pay to do the dungeon.
We completed it last night in about 40 mins just the bomb room that was difficult we kited the stuff about and just went survival with a squish-ish group (1 thief 2 ele’s 1 necro and a warrior).
the only difference seemed to be the bomb room to us the rest of it was just as easy as before and the last boss seemed even easier?
no vid but if we do it tonight or thursday i’ll happily make one.

“2. I extended the time from 100 seconds to 200 seconds at the Door Buster event. I intended for you to fight those guys, not circle strafe them and aggro leash chain them. I also added 1 additional mob to the encounter at the very middle (a bow dude) to account for you now having twice the time to defeat the waves that come in.”

So, to encourage you to fight those guys you need to circle strafe for 200s instead of 100!

Give the guys a solid speed buff, long range pulls, make the room smaller, etc. Problem solved. Everyone dies, has extreme difficulty completing the dungeon, and aren’t rewarded for it, but they’ll be fighting those guys.
Just did it with a pug without aggro leashing anything, I’m in the middle of uploading now.
edit: To clarify, in this group we weren’t able to KILL all of the adds but we were able to kill enough of them and survive long enough for us to win comfortably. With a very solid group I’m sure you could still kill most everything except shadowblades and be fine.
edit2: as far as circle strafing goes, I’m not sure how you CAN’T circle strafe in this game to kill stuff, anyone who’s ever pvped has circle strafing engrained in their brain, but I agree that it’s definitely doable without leashing/“exploiting” anything.
edit3: upon video review thekittenderp thief in my group was apparently trying to aggroleash mobs but I don’t see where he succeeded; same guy who suggested we exploit the lava field portion as well which we told him to shut up about..unfortunately I can’t control the pugs. Regardless the video should show how doable it is, even with one person being horrible.

Did 3 successful runs ytday on Blackgate with a PUG. No yellows from any chests with 100+ MFs and the Exo repairs from kiting room zerging = near wash in the end and a total waste of time.
I find it extremely difficult to believe a PUG can successfuly out DPS the spawn rate in the kiting room. This is why you need to test these types of changes and fine tune them prior to implementing them. Unless the intention here was to turn dungeons into a super-coordinated raid-like encounter?

Video does prove it up to a point. However, take into account your HP threshold. Not everyone has ~15k hp at level 75. I’m an 80 guardian with 30/20/10/10 full exotics and i only have 13k at 80, 11k at 75
regarding some skepticism about the gate being opened to Baelfire’s room — we wiped @ 100% completion (Magg died as he was saying “OH NO…”) on the previous pull, and the ‘event’ reset but the door stayed open.
As far as me thinking it’s doable with everyone down — yes, I do. It was literally joining a group that was “LF1M CoF” outside of the dungeon, not some synchronized polished group. With a good group, absolutely doable with most everyone alive.

aye, it’s full exotics or gtfo, pretty obvious now and even then it’s a gear check something I LOATHE in a game, the skills were clearly there, he’s a pretty decent player and all judging by his uses of skills, but the full death and almost wipe is indicative that the tuning is bad and there’s more than a few close calls he has, congrats but yeah with skill shown it just looks like you scraped by when you should have beaten it in a solid manner

I agree that gear level definitely does help — the fortunate part about that is that gear can be crafted/obtained outside of the dungeon. As far as scraping by, I’m still adjusting to this acrobatics spec and I sorta randomly spam dodge sometimes for the increased damage when endurance isn’t full – not sure that I like acrobatics based builds personally but that’s an entirely different conversation :-)
I also had to turn my graphics settings down to next to 0 to be able for fraps solidly, so being able to see some of the particle effects that I’m used to would have helped me mitigate/avoid a little more damage. I may try and put together a more synergized group, respec, and re-record another video at some point to show that with a properly geared/communicating group that does things properly it’s not that bad, but I just wanted to get SOMETHING up to muzzle the naysayers a bit.
It’s not a gear check. It’s a coordinated effort check. The bump from greens/rares to exotic is very marginal. Throw in a random PUG full of exos vs. a balanced guild group on Vent all in greens and see who does better.

Here is a quote from ANet blog: “The story mode of a dungeon, while challenging, should be survivable by a typical group of adventurers. The explorable mode, on the other hand, is set up to be a challenge worthy of an organized group of experienced players who coordinate their attacks.”

I managed it, I stripped naked. So did the whole team and zerg rushed it to death. Didn’t care about dying, we used 4 people rotating in and out with a guardian defending as we ran back to save the NPC.
It worked and NO repair cost.

Are you being serious, or are you trolling? The health increase alone is significant. That’s a level 75 dungeon. Let’s talk about a level 75 going in there with level 75 blues and greens and not level 80 exotic gear.

Please do the % increase math on same level greens vs exo. If you’re telling me that multiple is somehow completely game changing you’re either clueless or trolling yourself

I often wonder, when people say “I’m an 80 with full exotics” what they think that means. Do you think if everyone in your dungeon group has full exotics focused on power/precision that it should be a walk in the park?
@Rislod.: That’s a damage spec for guardians. Are your exotics geared for any vitality or toughness at all, or is it mostly precision, power, etc?
I love it when people ask for something they don’t expect to get and get it fairly quickly and easily.

Well I did this dungeon some hours ago and we did kite the monster at the “defend when magg plant the bomb” and died a lot of time for each player… well it realy cost alot to repair but we did it and the chest didnt even appear….but when we finished the stage in the ritual room it give the chest then we talked with magg and it did the “plant the bomb” event again…. so we glitched the dungeon without doing the “jump accross the door glitch” but did the dungeon as they wanted us to do so honestly i dont know if we should realy kite the monster or not now … because the result of kite the monster / glitch the dungeon will be the same!

@Daboris. No, but defense is bulked up. From my 80 set rare to my 80 exotic, the only difference in Defense. and Defense should be accounted for as well.
While i may have 13k hp at level 80, let’s say i have 100 defense
While someone may have 15k hp at level 80, but have 80 defense.
I would take less damage, but my health would go down at roughly the same rate
If i took more damage with my health higher.
While what you’re pointing out is true, you have to remember that some classes (individuals for the most part) set up their traits/armor to fit what type of character they play. I.e. Tank guardian, Damage guardian, Healing ele, Damage ele etc.
As the dev said “You should have 15k-25k hp” in a downscaled 75 dungeon. That just isn’t the case with a vast majority of level 80 players. It also implies that some classes should be geared toward 1 or 2 traits and that any other traits are useless.
Having full exotic mean having the highest defense for your armor. The second benefit of exotics being increases in power, precision, vitality, etc.

so it’s a replacement for raiding, that was do-able by corpse zerging, and that has now been closed up loop hole wise and we’re back to LFG looking for guardian lol
oh and VOIP or GTFO <_< I’m so sick of that aspect I had hoped to avoid it

OH, and I won’t out and out tell you to shut yer pie hole or anything, but it’s a gear check, I know one when I smell one, as do many players, don’t even TRY and say it’s not a gearcheck or that anything but a specific loadout of specific traits might pull through it if they gear and respec for it, possibly mid dungeon, which further exasperates the rubbish costs to rewards ratio eetc etc etc etc etc….

I’ve noticed this behavior as well — If Magg dies at almost the same time that the bomb timer reaches 100% then the “event” will reset but the wall will be destroyed and you could potentially engage/start the final encounter. I would assume the proper ‘fix’ for this would be that if the event ‘resets’ some method of the wall respawning should be in place, but I’m sure that it’s something that’ll flesh itself out over time.

It’s possible, but unnecessarily overtuned. Our party was 1 Thief (me), 2 Warriors and 2 Guardians. You need to maintain a huge DPS on the mobs from the start so that they don’t overwhelm you. The Guardians would use their mass pull skills and the Warriors would smash their bursts while I spammed Cluster Bomb over the top and nuked as many as possible. When we got 70-80% of the way through, we’d be caught in a crowd on cooldown, so I’d use the rest of my initiative to maintain evasion while the rest kited normally until the event finished. Nobody got defeated, and I got knocked down once towards the end.

Anet doesn’t ban if you accidentally happen upon a glitch/accident.
Anet bans if you purposely abuse said glitch to avoid doing the content as intended and/or gain an advantage.
So no, you’re fine. Just don’t attempt to abuse that glitch (or any glitch)

This. This is analyzing your group, forming a tactic, and executing it. Not flawlessly maybe, but this is what is expected of groups.
I’m sure balance will come with time, the guy need to make a significant change to make sure it was enough. If they don’t have completion data I’d be surprised, and if it is found to be ‘overtuned’ I’m fairly certain he’ll lower it back down a bit.

What I’m hearing is that a group containing 4 warriors/guardians specced for extremely high damage are coming about halfway being able to complete this as intended (killing all the mobs) while all other groups fall hilariously short.
This is a badly tuned encounter, and expecting every group to contain 4 dps warriors/guardians is quite silly.
They went on and on about how they removed the holy trinity and now you can group up and run dungeons with any group composition!
“Oh you should use VOIP, you should NOT do it with people you dont know, you have to do it ONE certain way” is not a valid argument for being able to do a dungeon.
For the casual player, all they can find is random people. It’s great to meet new people, try it some time. The dungeon should be easy (retaining challenge and difficulty) to coordinate with a group of unknown players. “This is what’s gonna happen, this is what we do, and you do this, you do this, etc”
Playing this game should not require you to be using some sort of verbal communication device nor should it be centered around 5 select people. Just because your group can do it does not mean other people can. The age range in this game is wide, though it is predominantly occupied by those 17+. You can’t expect everyone to be as skilled/into the game as you are.

Explorable dungeons are elite content. Elite content in all games generally require good skills and good team coordination.
Unless the game becomes so dumbed down you can use any random person to spam 1 2 3, like the ritualist DoA farm in Gw1 Then it’s no longer fun! I hope the elite content in this game stays exciting for a long time and requires skill and coordination, instead of being a dumbed down chore.
